IKWYM - I'm sick of buttery toast

having chinese tonight as DH been called in to work and I said if he went he owed me big time. Having a big roast tomorrow (for the DCs benefit as I think they'll all be ready for a good meal tomorrow) and maybe steak on Weds, as it's Midsomer Murders... will just have to be sensible with breakfast and lunch

RGPargy · 25/01/2010 21:36

Evening girls!

There must deffo be a bug going round - DD has had diarohea (sp??!) today but as with your DS, mummymels, she's ok in herself, albeit a little quieter than normal. She's off her food a bit too and wont even eat blueberries!! Good luck with your weigh in!

Ria - You're getting sick of buttery toast??!!! My WORD!!!! We really are on the verge of a breakthrough now aren't we!

So today i have begun my official calorie counting "diet". I was doing so well up until dinner time. I had some toast and jam around 5.30ish and then went off to the gym (oooo, get me!! ) and then had a jacket spud with home made cauli-broc cheese that i'd made earlier for everyone else, followed by two pesky yum-yums. Why do i do it? I'm not going to order them any more from Asda home shopping. Now it's put me at least 600 cals over my limit (they are about 500 cals for 2!). Buggerations!! Oh well, at least i can say that i had a good workout at the gym in my step class. It was good to go back! I weighed myself this morning too. I have put on about 5lbs since Christmas. I now weigh 19.2lbs

Better luck for tomorrow, eh?! Onwards and downwards!!!

thistimeIknowitstheRiathing · 26/01/2010 22:38

we ARE going to do it RG. I would say I am within a couple of lb of you. (Daren't weigh in after all the toast)

I really want to do at least one of the "Yorkshire Dales 3 Peaks" this summer, and I won't manage it unless I put some effort in.

Have done a little walking today - nothing special but more than I've done of late. Didn't get the run I'd planned or my roast dinner as I forgot we had to go to parents evening. Am tempted to go to the Zumba class tomorrow, but all the cliequey school mums are putting me off

Hope your DD perks up soon. My DS is almost better, just had a cold now.

thistimeIknowitstheRiathing · 27/01/2010 13:46

Have had a minor breakthrough and am formulating a cunning plan

Just been for a lovely breezy walk, but didn't make the class this morning. Am going to try and speak to someone from the gym today or tomorrow if I see them in passing...

mummymels · 27/01/2010 21:50

Ria - that menu for the week sounds yummy! Ooh interested to hear your cunning plan!

RGPargy - School told me there was a stomach bug in the news when DS was sent home. I hope your DD is on the mend soon. Forget Monday and start again!

I'm not feeling 100% as had a minor operation on Monday. Having said that, being on Go Lower has been perfect as I have my package of food already delivered to me so no trying to cook myself. Watching DH attempt to cook for the kids has made me thankful for my ready delivered food!

thistimeIknowitstheRiathing · 27/01/2010 22:41

hope you recover well Mels. apparently Rosemary Conley is launching a range of delivered food.

My cunning plan is, basically, February!

It's 28 days, that's a manageable number surely? I aim to weigh in and measure on Feb 1st, then hide scales and tape measure until March 1st, and give it my best shot. Am going to involve the boys (and DH - if he is going to be having surgery it won't harm to look after himself a bit) - have our 5 a day every day, drink more water, go wholemeal/wholegrain, walk/cycle the school run (DS1 excused as he has to get the bus), cut back on the booze (not the kids!), a little treat OK but not too much, fruit/veg/salad with every meal...

Nothing new or groundbreaking, but worth a try, as the weekly thing ain't working for me (though I will still be following the RC diet, with maybe an extra piece of fruit and slice of wholemeal toast if I need it, and extra exercise for me too) - it's too easy to start again Monday as I've blown it this week...", and if I stick to it the results should be fab. DS1 is so thin and getting spotty, so a bit of concentrated effort on getting healthy won't harm. DS2&3 won't notice any change.

Have been doing more walking again today and feel so much better for it I have missed it.

thistimeIknowitstheRiathing · 27/01/2010 22:45

oops - not slimming DS1 down - trying to fatten him up with "wholesome food" and clear his skin (and broaden his tastes)!

am currently trialling slow cooker porridge.

thistimeIknowitstheRiathing · 29/01/2010 12:37

brr it's cold today, and snowing.

have bought a new MP3 player for my couch to 5k podcast and a sports bra, and chatted to the instructor about trying out the zumba class for the 2 weeks left before half term. It's all falling into place

RGPargy · 29/01/2010 16:47

Hi everyone

Good luck with your plan Ria. It does indeed sound very cunning and also like it could work!! I'll be geeing you on with e-gees as much as i can lol.

So are you going to start running then or is it walking that you're going to focus on? My step instructor also does Zumba too, but i dont think it's at a convenient time for me. I'll have another look at the timetable and see if i can fit in a class as it sounds like something i could do.... Sports bras are FAB!! I wish i could wear mine all the time coz it makes me feel like i've got small boobs again, like i used to have in my thin days (34c, would you believe!).

Well the calorie counting is going well, although keeping within my calorie limits is not. Having said that, i am deffo feeling much more positive about changing my way of eating and have given DP strict instructions to NOT buy wine next week (damn that pesky Pinot!). I have been to the gym 3 times so far this week and i am hoping to make it 4 times as I plan to go to my usual step class on Sunday morning. I've booked DD a place in the creche just in case DP is working so there's no excuse for me not to go other than that delicious thing i dont see enough of called "sleep".

How's the snow Ria?

Mels - how are you getting on?

thistimeIknowitstheRiathing · 29/01/2010 23:02

woohoo, fit and fab Feb here we come

(funny how "no booze" isn't alliterative)

thistimeIknowitstheRiathing · 30/01/2010 12:18

loads of snow! looks like it'll be walking rather than running to start with. I would love to get into running, but it won't happen - I couldn't do it at school. But I can but try.

Been for a 40minute trudge through the snow with the buggy this morning.

RGPargy · 01/02/2010 10:06

How's the snow Ria? I thought all the snow had gone now but i suppose it's still around for some people! Got lovely sunshine here today which is melting some of the frost - lovely crisp mornings! However, i have now got the bug that DD and DP have had and feel all achey and slightly fluey. Quite pathetic really but i'm gutted coz i wanted to go to the gym tonight. There's no way i'll be going anywhere if i feel like this!

I couldn't weigh myself this morning either because the batteries have gone on my scales lol!!

Riapwhatyousow · 01/02/2010 11:35

we got about 4 inches on Friday night between about 10pm and midnight. very icky and icy now, yesterday was better (but still got my Dad to drive us to the soft play in town for the party DS2 was going to), am hoping it thaws today as I have missed my first planned Cto5k session (last night), won't manage it tonight as DH is going to work[bicuit], but hope to tomorrow. Will put DS3 in the buggy and walk to collect DS2 from school (daren't go out without the buggy for support just yet)

Hope you feel better soon.

Riapwhatyousow · 01/02/2010 11:36

I weighed in, and while it isn't as bad as it could have been, I'm right back to where I started when we first joined this thread, have measured too, and put the scales away...

here goes

RGPargy · 01/02/2010 19:49

Hope the snow clears for you soon Ria. What a pain it is!! What does the Cto5k involve? Well, if you're back where you started at least you haven't put on, eh? I think it's good to put the scales away for a while and just get the tape measure out once a month or so. Now that my batteries have gone on my scales, perhaps i should do the same! Maybe we should aim to work on losing inches rather than pounds?

Still feeling a bit ropey but hopefully i'll feel well enough to gym it tomorrow.

Riapwhatyousow · 02/02/2010 09:59

apparently it can get you from running nothing to 5k in 9 weeks, it is "interval training", run 1 min and walk 1 min 30 8 times (or something) in the first week. Have never got past week 1 session 2

snow going now, still the odd patch of ice. feeling pretty rough myself today.

Hope you feel much better now RG.

mummymels · 02/02/2010 21:04

Ria - that sounds a great plan. If you don't weigh in for a month you are bound to see a massive loss. How old is DS1? I would be really interested to hear how the zumba class is? It's all the new rave but I don't know much about it and it sounds interesting. That running plan sounds a fab idea. Do you have to be fairly fit to start with?

RGPargy - you sound really focussed too and your exercise so puts me to shame. I hope you are feeling better now.

I'm getting there thanks with the recovery.

I spoke to my Go Lower counsellor today and she said that soon I will be able to start making my own lo carb meals which I am quite looking forward to. The Go Lower ones are lovely but I am also looking forward to trying out some of the recipes mentioned on here. Tonight I've had the Go Lower Navarin of Lamb and I made some garlic brocolli to go with it and it was lovely.

Is it just the 3 of us left on here now!

Riapwhatyousow · 02/02/2010 22:33

glad you are getting better Mels. cooking for yourself sounds a bit grim though

DS1 is 13 in April I feel so old...

been for a "run" tonight, but it was a bit slippery underfoot, and DS1s MP3 player wouldn't work, so it was a bit "cautious" and done by ear so to speak, but I still did 8 runs, and tried to challenge myself with the distance. I had a stitch anyway! I am not in anyway fit, so I don't think so... It's funny, I can walk a fair few miles cross-country without feeling too bad, but any "proper" exercise is tough

I am looking forward to zumba, but also a bit nervous.

Hope you are doing OK RG.

RGPargy · 03/02/2010 11:47

Hi ladies. Ah yes, i thought it involved lots of running. Dont do running, personally, although i am more than happy to do an hour's step class and what have you! I know running is meant to be very good for you but i am a bit about running on the treadmills at the gym. With my great hulk battering the boards, it'd make such a racket!!

Mels - a great one for a low carb alternative to rice is "cauli-rice". You just grate raw cauliflower and then fry it in a mix of butter and olive oil until just before it's golden brown. It's delicious, although it does shrink up quite a bit so you may be a big pile when you first grate it but once it's cooked there's not an awful lot there!

Didn't go the gym yesterday. Felt much much worse than what i did on Monday! I was pretty much wiped out for the day and DD (bless her) was so good. We spent the morning on the sofa watching children's TV and then when she fell asleep on me at about 2pm, i mustered up some energy and carried her to her bed. I then jumped into bed myself and was rescued from childcare duties by DP who came home a little early. I was in bed til 6pm and just about managed to stagger downstairs for a while. I'm still not well and feel very pathetic and wobbly. Moving my eyes and head is the worst thing and now i have a cold coming on so i think it deffo is some sort of virus/flu thing that's done the rounds in the house. DS hasn't caught it yet, but he's never in long enough to catch illnesses from us!

Looking forward to maybe trying some Zumba myself in the next couple of weeks!

Riapwhatyousow · 03/02/2010 13:45

zumba was a giggle. got a voucher for a free session of another class too, so am going to give power chi yoga a try I think!

RGPargy · 03/02/2010 13:54

Glad you enjoyed it!

mummymels · 03/02/2010 19:16

lol Ria true, very true. I have been quite spoilt having all my meals delivered to me. That must be quite strange having a nearly teenager - mine are still little but they will grow quick enough! 8 runs sounds brilliant. I am so unfit that I don?t think I would be able to do that but like you, I can walk for miles. What did the zumba involve?

RGPargy ? You really sound in the wars. You must have needed that rest in the afternoon and lucky DD was being a good girl today. I hope you start to feel better soon and that DS doesn?t catch it. That caulirice sounds lovely. I?ll definitely have to try that one.

Doing fine here. Had no children for a couple of hours this afternoon and no work either and normally in this kind situation I would hit for the biscuit box as a treat but this afternoon I had just a few raspberries as a treat!

RGPargy · 05/02/2010 21:33

Hi girls

I can happily say i am slowly but surely on the mend now! I've been feeling really really crap this week and got sent home from work yesterday too. I am wondering if it was the bottle of sympathy lucozade on my desk that clinched the deal! I still felt a little bit rough this morning so thought i'd best milk it and take today off too.

Diet has yet again been a wipe out this week. On the plus side i haven't cooked at all this week - since Sunday in fact! However i am now sick of takeaways and cannot wait to have proper food again tomorrow. It all started on Tuesday when i'd not eaten all day and hte only thing i fancied was some chip shop chips.

Hopefully i'll be back to normal for the gym on Sunday morning, although Monday evening will suit me fine too.

mummymels · 05/02/2010 23:02

RGPargy - take off whatever time you can! You may as well but pleased to hear you are feeling better for it. I'm sure you'll be ready next week to start on the diet again once you are better.

RGPargy · 11/02/2010 12:20

Hi Ladies, how are we all??

Thinking about re-joining WW but just online, although i dont really see the point at the moment as i am completely unfocussed on dieting right now

Any losses going on here?
