GI DIETERS SUPPORT THREAD - number 2...................

PuffTheMagicDragon · 17/05/2005 20:15

As promised, a new thread for those of us following GI.

There's a separate thread for recipes now - thanks to those of you doing the cutting and pasting of recipes .

I've lost 2 lbs this week, so that's goodbye to the 6lbs I put on in my 2 day "breadfest" !

I've never calorie counted melbob - one of the reasons I like GI.

Saker · 12/07/2005 00:41

I calorie count a bit, certainly try to stick to lower calorie meals etc. I can't see how you can lose if you eat more than your calorie usage each day Gi or not.

Puff if you don't calorie count, do you just eat whatever you like as long as it is GI?

dizzymama · 12/07/2005 09:59

Hi all, my book says to just be 'aware' of the calories, I confess, however, to not really knowing how this diet works! !

Puff · 12/07/2005 11:41

Saker, I control the portion size of certain carbs, so I will weigh/measure things like rice and potatoes, but that's about it.

Weigh in tomorrow, but I think I've managed to shift about 2lbs this week.

melbob · 12/07/2005 21:46

Hm maybe I sould do that then. Thanks

Puff · 13/07/2005 21:02

Lost 3lbs (the 3 I put on whilst on holiday) so that's good.

Furball · 13/07/2005 21:03

Puff - you really are an inspiration, you should be very proud. How much further have you got to go?

Puff · 13/07/2005 21:13

Well, the thing is, since the beginning of May, I've been yo-yoing tbh - been away on hols a couple of times, then spent the time in between losing what I gained, but at least I've been able to get back on track reasonably easily with the GI diet.

I'd be thrilled to get another 2.5 stone off, but really pleased with 1.5.

Saker · 13/07/2005 22:51

Brilliant Puff especially when you have had a bad week healthwise. 1.5 stone isn't really that much - the end is in sight!

melbob · 14/07/2005 00:09

well done puff. How's your hip?

Dizzymama are you out there how you doing?

dizzymama · 14/07/2005 19:14

Hi melbob, I'm here! Had a 'bad' week with not losing anyhting and not really being sure why this is but am trying to stay focussed! Everyone sounds like they're doing really well, keep it up ladies!

melbob · 14/07/2005 22:09

I thik thats how this diet goes. its happened to me too. But the trick is to accept that its not even I met a woman the other day who had lost a couple of stone GI ing and she said it had been a bit erratic

Puff · 14/07/2005 22:18

Went to the physio today and she has given me some exercises to do - back again next week.

I've posted this a few times, but my experience on GI is I get a biggish weight loss 1 week (say 3 or sometimes 4 lbs), then maybe a small one the following week.

melbob · 16/07/2005 10:56

hope physio terrorist as they were called in my nursing days is helping!

Thanks for comment re weight loss

Furball · 16/07/2005 19:37

I've been limping along really with snippets and receipes from here and mags etc, but have finally ordered the Anthony Worrel-Thompson book, so will get abit more inspiration.

melbob · 18/07/2005 20:21

Hi

lost 3 more pounds so now have done a stone. Am chuffed and still motivated

Thanks for support from MNers

Saker · 18/07/2005 20:52

Well done Melbob

I haven't been doing so well this week. I sort of lost another pound last week(if looked at the scales at the right angle ) and I start each day full of good resolutions. Generally I get through to teatime well but I don't know what comes over me then but I just want to eat and eat. I try to eat and eat GI stuff but I tend to pick at everything the kids are having and generally let myself down. Off on holiday on Saturday so I don't know if I'm slipping into holiday mode a bit quick.

melbob · 18/07/2005 21:41

Thanks Saker.

I think it mudt be very hard when you are at home. I know I pick more at the weekends, I'm sure if you keep trying to eat GI it will come off eventually

melbob · 18/07/2005 21:41

Forgot to say enjoy your holiday

Puff · 20/07/2005 11:01

Well done melbob !

I stayed the same this week - not surprised as this is the pattern for me on GI.

Katya · 21/07/2005 19:06

Hi Melbob
sorry for late reply ! yes I do find listening to Paul McKenna CD alongside GI-type diet is helpful. si this what's you've been doing?

congrats on losing a stone !

Katya · 21/07/2005 19:09

pleased to report I've lost 4.4lbs in last 2 weeks

I've been struggling to keep the momementum going and been messing around with the same few pounds but really hope that I can stick with it now and keep on track.

we're moving house in 10 days so any tips for keeping to GI principles whilst house is in hiatus would be much appreciated !

hope your hip is getting better Puff.

Katya · 21/07/2005 19:14

Hi Saker
sorry to hear you are finding it hard.
have you been able to trace back what foods that might have messed up the balance?

I usually find whne I get into snack-attack mode it's because I've eaten something too high GI earlier in the day and it's thrown my blood sugar off balance, resulting in sugar or white carb cravings.

or the other big trigger for me is getting over-tired, then just want to eat and eat and eat !

have a great holiday.

Saker · 21/07/2005 19:32

Thanks Katya

I have been a lot better the last three days, just willpower tbh but sometimes it deserts me . Only tomorrow left before we go on holiday but I'm trying not to think of it as "end of diet" because it means I've learned nothing if I just start pigging out again the second I'm away. My main resolution for holiday is to eat a lot more fruit and veg. Although I used to eat quite a lot anyway pre-GI I always used to stop on holiday and substitute it with more bread, pate etc. So I figure if I try and keep the fruit and veg intake up I should eat less of everything else anyway. Other resolution is to eat normal breakfast (NOT croissants, pain au chocolat etc ).

Puff · 21/07/2005 22:48

Good luck with the hols saker, sounds like a good plan, and don't forget to have a brill time .

Well done on your weight loss Katya .
