GI DIETERS SUPPORT THREAD - number 2...................

PuffTheMagicDragon · 17/05/2005 20:15

As promised, a new thread for those of us following GI.

There's a separate thread for recipes now - thanks to those of you doing the cutting and pasting of recipes .

I've lost 2 lbs this week, so that's goodbye to the 6lbs I put on in my 2 day "breadfest" !

Didn't lose again this week . Must try harder , it's not been my best week but full of good resolutions for the last 5 weeks before I go on holiday now.

I love the AWT book although I seriously doubt how GI some of the recipes are with sugar, pineapple, mango, potatoes etc and suggesting you serve with things like cous cous. What do you think, am I too strict?

Well I would like to get down to between 9-91/2 stone. I started (post holiday bloat) at 10st13 and am now 9st12. I am 5ft 5' so I am within normal BMI and I know it is likely to be slower. I would like to lose a pound a week now until I go on holiday.

I have been pretty good so far since Sat's weigh in. My downfall is nibbling things while I am preparing food for the children, eating spoons of their leftovers, etc. Pathetic isn't it, but I wouldn't be surprised if I add on a couple of hundred calories a day doing that so I have been trying very hard not to do it.

robin3 · 20/06/2005 13:24

If this weather keeps up my downfall is going to be bottled beer and crisps at barbecues....I can't resist!

Going to take Puffs tip and avoid all bread/grains/potatoes whilst the weather is hot....stick to pulses/protein/salad.

I did get a new pair of jeans on Sat....big trip to Diesel. Came away (with help from staff and DP) with a pair of jeans two sizes smaller than I'd anticipated buying. Apparently they stretch! Any more lager and the zip will probably burst.

Heathcliffscathy · 20/06/2005 13:36

ok. i've fallen off the wagon in a big stylee (and i already had my leg trailing off the back as have never really given up drinking at weekends). i'm v v pmt and had pizza and icecream last night, and haven't been at all good for about the last week. i never got below 10 1/2 stone, but i've put on a few pounds (dare not weigh myself until i'm back to 10 1/2 which will probably take a few days...

i'm feeling like a piece of butter melting in the sun. still havne't come on. please give me some help and encouragement and some kicking up the bum as i still have a stone to lose (when i'm back to 10 1/2) and i'm v depressed about it all today!

robin3 · 20/06/2005 14:10

Wish I could think of something wise to say but I can't I'm afraid.

I'm in the same position and really fearful of sliding backwards. I want to loose another 7lbs before I have another baby and breakthrough the previous weight barriers so I can be sure the weight is gone forever. I know when I'm pregnant I will stick to the GI plan for my healths sake and I'm hoping that that means I won't be back where I started in a years time! The middle phase of any diet is the worst.

You're right though....a week of being really good and you'll be back where you were. If you plan a menu for the next week would that help you stick to it?

Hi

I am so p**d off I have put on 3 lbs despite having stuck to Helen Forster. Desperately need advice

Saker · 20/06/2005 20:12

Oh Melbob, I'm sorry things aren't going well for you. Do you think it's just time of the month or something ?

melbob · 20/06/2005 20:42

That was last week!

Caribbeanqueen · 20/06/2005 20:48

I'm another one who has completely lost the plot. I lost a stone earlier this year, but have put half of it back on. I seem to have lost what little willpower I managed to scrape together, and just eat anything and everything.

It's awful not being able to wear summer clothes without my stomach bulging, but even that unpleasant image doesn't motivate me.

I need a giant kick up the a**e.

Saker · 20/06/2005 20:59

Melbob are you definitely sticking to correct portion sizes? I'm not criticising just trying to help you find the answer.

melbob · 20/06/2005 21:02

I don't think you are crticising and I have asked my self the same thing and I am sure I have done the book tot he letter. DH has been doing the cooking etc and has stuck to it and lost weight.

Hi caribbeanqueen

Puff · 20/06/2005 21:15

Ok, yesterday is yesterday folks - if you have gained weight, try not to stress about it too much. Anyone avoiding scales because they are worried - don't! Get on them and see where you are at. If at the moment, you don't feel able to focus on losing weight, then give yourself a week where you try to maintain only - then after that, see if you feel ready to start afresh.

Melbob for you, especially as you have been rigidly sticking to the plan. My only thought is (I go on and on about this) - foods containing wheat are the things that make me put on weight irrespective of how good I've been on a diet. It's taken me years to work this one out, but I know the culprit now - could it possibly be this?

Heathcliffscathy · 20/06/2005 22:37

puff, can i wait until i come on before i weigh myself...i know that if i've put on loads i'll just stuff my face out of despair...whereas as it is today i've been pretty good....

Puff · 20/06/2005 22:56

permission granted !

Heathcliffscathy · 20/06/2005 22:57

cheers darlin!

How interesting that so many are gaining weight at the moment. Me too. Does anyone think they might be retaining fluid as the body's reaction to this kind of weather?

emmamama · 21/06/2005 17:42

Sorry, that was really mean of lardy arse me who has put on 2lbs.

What I meant to say was 'Well done Puff!!!!!'

Saker · 21/06/2005 19:53

Well done Puff. I'm dead but I have read what you eat on the other thread and it is about half of what I have so I only have myself to blame. I've eaten quite a lot of extra fruit today (don't know how much difference that makes) but otherwise still sticking to the straight and narrow with only occasional thoughts about pieces of toast, butter and marmite.
