PuffTheMagicDragon · 17/05/2005 20:15

As promised, a new thread for those of us following GI.

There's a separate thread for recipes now - thanks to those of you doing the cutting and pasting of recipes .

I've lost 2 lbs this week, so that's goodbye to the 6lbs I put on in my 2 day "breadfest" !

Thanks Saker!

Thing is, I still weigh a lot more than you do , despite having lost 5 stone, so I'll still get weeks where I lose more than the average 1 or 2lb.

I must admit I do fill up on fruit - easier in the summer when there are lovely cherries and strawberries around, but I'm sure I'm going to turn red soon !

melbob · 22/06/2005 21:31

Hi

thanks for support had v late meting at work last night so too tired to mn.

Think anorak may have a point about the weather Good news though I weighed myself this am and have lost 5lbs since monday. so am back on track think you may well be right puff about particular foods. Will watch that one carefully.

Puff · 22/06/2005 21:38

Well done melbob , so pleased for you!

Saker · 22/06/2005 23:12

Oh Melbob that's good. It's amazing how much fluid levels etc seem to fluctuate.

melbob · 23/06/2005 20:59

Thanks again everyone. Its also easier to eat less when its so hot got to go DS crying

Saker · 25/06/2005 09:14

hurray hurray lost 3lbs this week so rushed on here to show off.

melbob · 25/06/2005 21:53

Fantastic saker well done.

glitterfairy · 26/06/2005 17:10

I am not weighing myself regularly but have lost about two stone so far (I have a lot to lose so it comes off easily at first). It has definately slowed down but I have increased my exercise.

I agree anorak I seem to lose less in the summer. Perhaps we need less calories then as well because it is warm.

dizzymama · 27/06/2005 14:31

Hi ladies,I'm new to this thread but have just started the GI diet through that Tesco diet thingy on the net! Glancing through the thread itis good to see people have lost so much weight. Well done all. Hopefully I can shift the near 5 stone I'd like to!

Saker · 27/06/2005 16:35

good luck Dizzymama and welcome. When did you start?

anorak · 27/06/2005 16:52

Well done everyone sounds like most of you are succeeding at the moment. I'm stuck just under 11 stone, can't seem to get any lower. Guess I'll have to just stick with the plan and toughen up on myself (I do cheat quite a bit and I have to get out of the habit).

dizzymama · 27/06/2005 19:57

Hi Saker, I'm a very recent convert, only started last wednesday, haven't even had my first weigh in yet! Hope I can do this!!

Saker · 27/06/2005 20:06

Anorak, I had lost nothing for the previous 2 weeks and only a pound a week for the two or three weeks before that. So I think it can stop and start. Last week I did have a think about all the extra bits I was popping in my mouth especially off the children's meals , but even fruit - I can eat a container of strawberries while walking round the kitchen . I tried to substitute lower GI stuff like carrots. However I have been eating more fruit again like that this week - I know it's not supposed to have an effect but I suppose it all adds up in terms of calories in the end.

robin3 · 28/06/2005 09:15

I'm having success again too! Took your advice Puff and cut down my carbs in the evening and having more snacks in the day. Finally got under the 11 stone mark and overall have lost 2st. Well done everyone and good luck dizzy...it's the easiest diet to stick to that I've ever found so I'm sure you will succeed.

anorak · 28/06/2005 09:30

Yes I think one of my problems is that I dish up portions for myself that are too large. I regularly reach the end of a meal thinking I could have been satisfied with less. Must serve myself smaller portions.

Saker · 28/06/2005 13:25

trouble is some of the food is so nice! I never thought I'd hear myself saying I'd could eat the whole saucepan of lentils but they are lovely!

melbob · 28/06/2005 20:40

Hi Dizzy mama i am only 3 weeks ahead of you so we're in it together.

had a bit of a bad lunch I was interviewing all day and lunch was provided white bread and ham sandwiches (not good), chicken satay sticks (good) scampi in breadcrumbs and those little sausages and an apple

But good low GI break, snacks and dinner. So hopefully not too much damage

dizzymama · 28/06/2005 20:52

Oooo, good to know there is someone at the same sort of stage as me melbob, will have to keep in touch. How have you done so far? I'm on the Tesco ediet Gi plan (IYSWIM) so am just eating what it tells me to, don't know that much about GI and feel I should read up Also had bad lunch as went to a friends and she provided quiche and salad - this is probably dreadful!

melbob · 29/06/2005 20:02

Hi dizzymama

Not sure about quiche but pastry not good. I bought the Helen Forster book and followed that and its been fine but I am vv lucky dh is sahd and does all the cooking and shopping so right food put in front of me. Is tesco diet any good? had a quick look at the test thing.

If you don't mind me asking how much are you planning to lose, tell me to get lost if its too nosey. I dhould loose 5-6 stone but am thinking of one at a time

dizzymama · 29/06/2005 20:53

I'veonly been on Tesco/GI for a few days but so far the site seems great and there is a tonne of help on there, IMO dfinitely worth the money - I'm categorically lazy and need someone to tell me what to eat and when
Don't mind you asking about weight at all chuck,I eventually need to lose 5 stone but you're right, I'll be taking it one step at a time, that first stone is my target at the mo!

melbob · 30/06/2005 20:07

Sounds good may try tesco site at some point.
Good to know we can do this together.

Another working lunch day but was pretty good had three smoke slamon sarnies and lots of fruit and dried apricots

DH bought me the Paul McKenna I can make you Thin CD and book (he thought it would help) Do you know anyone who has used it?

dizzymama · 30/06/2005 21:18

Don't know anyone who has tried it I'm afraid, will ask around for you.
Your lunch sounds fine, it's the lashings of mayo they put with everything that I have to watch!
We've got a bbq on the weekend so that should be interesting with the diet, think the tesco site has a bbq ideas section though, will go and scour that!

melbob · 30/06/2005 21:27

We're having bbq too (hope weather improves!!) but promised nephews 3 and 6.

any tips let me know

dizzymama · 01/07/2005 09:50

Here we go.... just cut and pasted!! Enjoy your BBQ x

Top 5 Tips

----------------

Select lean cuts of meat instead of burgers and sausages. Choose chicken, turkey, fish or pork in place of red meat
Trim excess fat from meat before cooking. Keep food a good distance from the coals to allow fat to melt and drip away
Try barbequed sliced vegetables or skewered vegetable kebabs.
Barbeque oily fish, rich in beneficial fatty acids, such as mackeral, tuna or salmon instead of red meat
Baste food with low-fat tasty marinades instead of oil. This food will be full of flavour without added fat or salt

Healthy Choices

----------------

Chicken or turkey without skin
Oily and white fish
Barbeque vegetables and prepare kebabs using cherry tomatoes, courgette chunks, onions, aubergine, peppers and mushrooms
Enjoy plenty of fresh salads and choose low fat salad dressings
Cook potatoes in the microwave for a few minutes, wrap in tin foil and place on the edge of the coals for crispy-skinned, moist potatoes

Foods to Avoid

----------------

Too much red meat
Burgers and sausages
Mayonnaise-rich salads and full-fat salad dressings
Buttery garlic bread

Note: Avoid placing frozen foods on the barbeque as the outside can char while the center remains frozen

Katya · 01/07/2005 10:45

can I join in?

I've lost my way and regained ½ stone and gone back into the 13's.

but still 4 ½ stones lighter, but no room for complacency, really got to reverse the gaining trend and get back on track.

Guess I've got complacement and slipped back into lots of bad old habits in stressy times.

Any tips for a fresh start and how to stay on track? Last fresh start only lasted about 36 hours !
