PuffTheMagicDragon · 17/05/2005 20:15

As promised, a new thread for those of us following GI.

There's a separate thread for recipes now - thanks to those of you doing the cutting and pasting of recipes .

I've lost 2 lbs this week, so that's goodbye to the 6lbs I put on in my 2 day "breadfest" !

Having trouble finding any more veggie recipes - will keep looking.

lilibet · 10/06/2005 15:37

it's ok puff - was probably being a bit lazy!

How have you managed to loose so much - you have done incredibly well - how have you got thru the "i must eat everything in the house" moments?

Puff · 10/06/2005 18:41

There have been times where I have done the "eat everything in the house" , but with this diet, I've found it much easier to get back on track and carry on again - mainly because I haven't been counting calories or points - just watching portion size on certain things and ruling out particular foods (eg bread ) - although I have stumbled a few times on that!

welcome Beetroot.

I didn't lose anything this week . And had my sister-in-law and her family staying this weekend so it's been hard to be good.

I know it is but I have so much to loose. Helen Foster book is v good a v easy to follow. Just had delicious dinner of lamb and creamy flageolet bean

Puff · 13/06/2005 21:10

Well done beety!

I think I've had a good week - will find out tomorrow. Slipped up slightly by going to the pub yesterday evening and having a couple of drinks, but it's rare to have a babysitter, so I couldn't resist!

Puff · 13/06/2005 21:17

melbob - you can do it ! Try not to think about the total amount - do it half a stone at a time. I felt very daunted when I first started, but I haven't found GI a "trial" like other diets and if I have a few days where I'm not on it, I look forward to getting back to it, because I feel so much better eating the "GI way".

I use honey....I feel i can give DS things with honey in in preference to sweetener.

2lbs is great melbob....if you think about it as 2lbs gone forever rather than a quick fix loss due to starvation, you've done brilliantly.

Puff · 14/06/2005 10:27

ps, meant to also say well done on losing 2lbs melbob.

I've never lost loads of weight in a week on GI - the most is 4lbs I think.

The important thing with this diet (I think) is that it's sustainable in the longer term and, genuinely incredibly healthy.

Puff · 14/06/2005 10:27

Oh, and I lost 2lbs this week too.

emmamama · 14/06/2005 11:31

Yay Puff !!!

Managed to put 1lb on this week , but it is that time of the month. Ho hum.

Saker · 14/06/2005 14:41

Well done Puff.

I fell seriously off the wagon yesterday for the first time since I started and ate curry and rice, then pudding and some chocolate and anything else I could pop into my mouth while cooking it all. I do find it hard cooking for other people and not partaking especially puddings .

But my guests have gone now and so back to the regime (she says munching a carrot).

Well done melbob.

yes Beetroot I exercise 4 times a week. I think it helps but I think your body does get used to it and it has a less drastic effect than when you first started.

Puff · 14/06/2005 18:27

It's difficult when you have visitors - I have a relative staying at the moment who eats a lot of chocolate !

I'm sure you will Beetroot. I have lost a stone and a pound so far in 9 weeks and I was only just on the borderline of normal / overweight BMI when I started. And the exercise MUST help a bit (musn't it).

Puff, I am dreading Dh's parents coming sometime soon as they always drink a lot of wine and are used to me cooking big dinners for them. I don't find it too hard not to drink when other people are - but I do find it harder not to eat... and also it's harder to fit in snacks and things so I end up starving and cooking a meal at 8pm at night.

Oh well that's life. I won't be surprised if I don't lose this week either though .

melbob · 15/06/2005 20:34

Thanks everyone wierd lentil thing tonight. DH being a star with cooking.

Excellent beety!

The two books you bought are IMO the best for recipes.

Rick Gallop is good for the "principles" of GI and I still refer back to it from time to time.
