Happy new Ria. Thanks sooo much for all your effort. Got some great meal ideas and have the idea of the plan.

I'm being heavenly at the moment, but here comes the w.end!!! Good luck to all .

I made a lovely tea that i thought you might like to try. Fry onion garlic then chicken till brown. Add passata, mixed dry herbs and fresh parsley. Bung in oven with a sprinkle of cheese on top.

happynewRia · 17/01/2009 09:02

yippee! another 2lb gone!

MmeJaffaB · 17/01/2009 09:11

Oh was just thinking about you Ria, wondering how your weigh in was this morning. Well done, woo hoo!

OP posts:
happynewRia · 17/01/2009 09:13

thanks

My goal for this week is a little activity every day. It is raining today so not a good start

alfiemama · 17/01/2009 10:28

Hi everyone

I am an ex ww, (booo) anyway I did really well got to gold, but went through some stress at home, and bang the weight is back on.

I really think sw would be good for me, can you really eat as much as you like?

Can someone explain in a REALLY simple way how it works, I know its on food combining which I know is a principle that works.

I am going to go to a meeting but just cant to get to it at the mo, does anyone maybe have something on email or word that explains it to me, pretty please?

I went shopping for all low fat yesterday, so my cupboards are full.

Brekkie this morning was allbran, natural yoghurt and a teaspoon of honey (yum yum), what day am I on?

happynewRia · 17/01/2009 11:00

hi alfiemama, welcome.

up to now with your brekkie you are neutral, with your allbran as a HEB, presuming low fat yogurt, so just a syn count for your honey.
so you could go green and have unlimited pasta, rice, potatoes, pulses and a measured amount of meat/fish for your other HEB, or you could go original and have meat and fish with a measured amount of jacket/new potato or pasta.

it is a faff, but I like it really

you could try the SW mag? I think it's £2.70 and has a weeks worth of menu in it (this month is the new plan though, but there are loads of recipes) I think you can get a free sample menu from the SW website too.(without being a member)

alfiemama · 17/01/2009 11:02

Hi HappynewRia (great name)

Thanks I will try that, ooh dont know what day to try now, but has explained the principle to me now a bit better, thans Ria

sep1712 · 17/01/2009 16:08

ria well done on your weight lose, the hard work is worth it.
Can't believe its raining with you, We've been in the garden all morning.
I'm doing my meal plan and online shopping for the week ahead. Any main meal ideas would be very helpful. Just made some lovely free soup that all the family liked if anyone wants to know whats in it let me know.

happynewRia · 17/01/2009 16:29

Its not raining now, but it's SO cold. we didn't go out.
not having a brilliant day, but you're right sep, the effort is worth it, and i am going to increase my efforts big time this week (the inspirational section of this months mag really struck a chord actually)

how long/how much to lose before people start to notice do you think? (I know it's only 4lb atm, although I've lost about 8lb since I hit my peak) My parents are away until March (normally I see them daily) so I'm just wondering if I only lose slowly if they'll still notice a difference?

honeybehappy · 17/01/2009 16:34

Hello, im on my first week of SW and doing the extra easy plan and i want to cook beef stew for dinner i have the recipe

  1. Peel the shallots. Heat a large pan sprayed with Fry Light, add the shallots and fry for 5 minutes until browned. Transfer to a plate and set aside.
  2. Slice the carrots, place in the pan with the steak, tomato puree, bouquet garni and 852ml/1½ pints water. Cover and simmer for 1½ hours.
  3. Halve the mushrooms, add to the pan with the shallots and simmer for a further 20 minutes. Sprinkle over the gravy granules and stir until thickened. Season to taste, sprinkle with parsley and serve.

BUT i cannot cook to save my life and need a few pointers

SO do i use a frying pan to add the steak and carrots etc? or are they talking about a saucepan?

AND what does simmer mean? is it number 3/4 on an electric hob? Are they talking about cold watewr or boiling water?

Many many thanks

happynewRia · 17/01/2009 16:38

hi again honeybehappy.

I am no cook (not called Ria for fun) but I will try to help

do you have to seal the meat? If so, do that in a frying pan and then transfer to a bigger pan. Not sure about water, maybe boiling? Simmer is the bit where it's not boiling, kind of brought to the boil but temperature reduced? HTH. You could probably cook it in the over (around 190C) but it would take longer to cook maybe.

happynewRia · 17/01/2009 16:40

have just read the recipe again. TBH I would bung it all in a casserole in the oven, no faffing about with pans and frying... maybe 2-3 hours. Do you have a slow cooker for next time?

honeybehappy · 17/01/2009 16:42

hello

It's ok i posted on the moneysavingexpert forum and someone told me how to do it.

I feel really embaressed asking silly questions but it's the only way to learn.

MmeJaffaB · 17/01/2009 17:48

Good for you honeybehappy. Don't be embarassed.

It's great that you are keen to cook and learn, don't be afraid to experiment either, the basic rules for SW is do not add fat and remove all visible fat before cooking (except fry lite), you can then cook it any way you would like. IMO anything with beef is best cooked long and slow in the oven tbh. I would have taken that recipie and done exactly as Ria said. Chuck it all in and forget it for a few hours. The only difference is that you would not have nice brown shallots from shallow dry frying but thats really only for appearance not taste. Sounds lovely. I'd serve with a huge dollop of onion and suede mash. Yummy

I have made parsnip and ginger winter soup this afternoon. It is delish (if you like ginger and persnips) Free on a green.

Question.... If you are on Extra Easy and make a recipie that has syn values which syn value do you take? Surely it's the lowest is it?

debzmb62...I've joined that site.... is it me or is it very difficult to navigate. I can't even see how to post?

Sep172... How about:
Homemade cheese and pepper bugers and SW chips.
Special egg fried rice
meat balls and spagetti
mixed grill
Ummmmmmmm
big fat juicy roast chicken with salad and new potatos
SW Chicken tikka massala with rice and onion bahjis.
SW mash potato pizza
Ummmmmmmmmm
Can't think of anymore for now.

I was off failing to buy something nice to eat at M&S

DH off today so we're going to have a nice night in, but now I don't know what we'll be eating.

RIAchforthestars · 18/01/2009 17:50

new, positive Ria, sorry for namechanging again. Variety is the spiceof life

RIAchforthestars · 18/01/2009 17:53
MmeJaffaB · 18/01/2009 18:16

Stop name changing and answer my question pleeeeeeas.......

What have you had today, aghhhhhh it's the worst thing not to be organised. Don't blow it.

OP posts:
RIAchforthestars · 18/01/2009 19:40

we are having chicken kiev and a massive salad

not going to blow it, am in a good place and feel motivated, have chicken to roast & veg to steam for tomorrow, then need to organise the shopping for the rest of the week...

haven't been off exercising though, that'll be tomorrow.

It does go very quiet on diet threads at the weekend though

sep1712 · 18/01/2009 20:48

Hi all.

Chicken kiev yummmmmmy.

Thanks for the ideas jaffa.

How do you make the pizza? it sounds lovely and the kids fav.

Have you planned your meals and ordered for the week ahead everyone???

RIAchforthestars · 18/01/2009 21:34

MJB - lowest syn value

your special fried rice sounds nice.

I think I am going green tomorrow (because I forgot to buy bacon for brekkie and I fancy a big lunch of carbs)

I am feeling really positive about this (probably shooting myself in the foot here). It feels different to that "start of diet enthusiasm". I feel like I have accepted that the weight will come off slowly (however much I would like a 6lb loss ina week) and that I can do it. Long may this feeling last!

so, goal for week - more exercise. Anyone else?

MmeJaffaB · 18/01/2009 21:43

Cook & Mash potato in the normal way, line a tray with foil and spray well with fry lite.
Place mash onto tray and shape like a pizza base about 2cm thick. Add tomato puree and then whatever you want as toppings, sprinkle with 42g HEa and bake in the oven until golden.

Not quite a pick up a slice pizza but looks like one all the same.

Obviously I used to make it for a green day but now with Extra Easy you could have what ever on top.

So, extra easy syns? lowest ones shown on a recipie, anyone know please?

Well done Ria, feeling that motivation with you at the moment....hope I can keep it.

RIAchforthestars · 18/01/2009 21:45

was that an x-post there MJB? it says lowest syn value. It really seems too good to be true!
