⭐️OPEN TO ALL⭐️ Weight Loss, Wellbeing & Motivation Thread To Support Healthy Habits.

Following on from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/weight_loss_chat/5523585-lose-it-motivational-may-2026?reply=152568153

Here we are with our June LOSE IT! Thread. To reach optimum health and vitality (as well as a trim body) we need to focus not only on our food intake; but movement, our mental health and sleep quality too!

Who doesn’t want to feel good and energetic as well looking great!

Get on board to reset & refresh and become a healthier version of yourself.

These threads are for those who’d like to lose weight and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We have a WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable) that’s based on several sensible principles including:-

  1. Eat a variety of real whole foods such as fresh vegetables, salad, berries, beans, nuts, eggs, lean meat, good fats etc.

  2. Reduce sugars, simple carbs, alcohol and UPFs.

  3. Plan your meals & log your intake. Also be mindful of portion control.

  4. Intermittent fasting - research suggests (Zoe study) that adhering to an eating window of 10 hours can have a positive effect on health, wellbeing and weight loss. I personally have a eating window of approximately 7hrs - 12:00 - 19:00.

  5. Stay hydrated! 💧

  6. Move as much as able. Particularly strength based exercise. Muscle keeps you strong as well as revs up your metabolism.

  7. Get the fibre in! Great for your gut biome as well as 💩

  8. SLEEP! Good sleep hygiene and a regularly sleep routine can be beneficial to weight loss. I’m always more hungry following poor sleep.

  9. Be mindful about your own mental wellbeing and try not to eat your feelings. We’ve all been there!

  10. Be kind to yourself! ❤️ One or two slip ups won’t undo all your previous efforts. Just check-in with yourself, reinforce your good intentions and carry on.

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone.
After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9st 3lbs.

Are you in?😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Any recipes/workouts that have worked for you, you’d like to share?

That’s an amazing loss so far @PipkinOfPepper 🙌

The less said about the rubbish I’m eating today, the better…

Marmaladeaddict · 24/06/2026 15:20

PipkinOfPepper · 24/06/2026 13:37

WOW from this morning, haven't had time to post until now.

SW: 111.05 kg (4th January 2026)
CW: 91.45 kg
GW: 78-80 kg and then see

The scale on Monday said 92.2 and yesterday 91.8 so I'm taking today's reading with a pinch of salt, especially as I've not been able to be as active as I'd like due to the heatwave. However I'm probably eating less heavy food (though lots of ice cream / iced coffee) so who knows!

I've officially lost 3 stone though (and very nearly 20kg) which is feels like a pretty huge milestone. I was hoping to have lost that much by the 4th July which would be six months after starting so I'm thrilled to be there a little bit early. I won't be celebrating with food though!

That's fantastic. How did you do it?

Pasta4Dinner · 24/06/2026 16:44

No weight loss and I’m actually starving, probably because of poor sleep! Damn this weather.

PipkinOfPepper · 24/06/2026 17:50

@Marmaladeaddict this sounds so boring and basic but:

  • eating less (trying to average 1500cal a day though I don’t weigh or log anything so it’s all a guesstimate and some days I’m absolutely over - but I’m also eating much less than pre-weight loss)
  • eating FAR fewer carbs, this has probably been my biggest shift - swapping my breakfast toast for yoghurt, sandwiches for salads, etc. I still have bread and pasta occasionally if I really fancy them but they are no longer every day foods sadly
  • drinking way more water than I used to drink
  • trying to walk more - I’d been doing so well until this heatwave!

That’s basically it! I’m seeing it as a needed lifestyle change rather than as a diet, so I’m still letting myself eat ice cream / crisps / treats etc if I really fancy them. But I’m much more aware of the calorie sacrifice now, so I only tend to eat them if I really want them rather than mindlessly snacking.

I did briefly try WLI for around 6 weeks but I hated the side effects so decided to do it on
my own.

FridayNighFeeling · 24/06/2026 20:42

Hi all, I thought I would come and check on you all. Oh boy I am suffering! Sleep has been worse than ever, I was booked to do a class tonight but cancelled. Eating has been OK actually, drinking lots of water and just trying to survive. Not getting on the scales till we are into more sensible temperatures or after my period so may be a while.

Good luck to you all and hats off to anyone who got on the scales at all!

LemonDrizzle23 · 24/06/2026 21:56

Forgot to check in as we’re away, but I did weigh yesterday morning and was 13 st 8 exactly, so down 1.2lbs this week which was a nice surprise.

Next big goal is 12 st 12, moving me down into the overweight category. Not much hoping getting closer to this while we’re away 😂 but I have good intentions for july….

10kstepsaday · 24/06/2026 22:11

My WOW is 10 st 5.8 lbs. Which isn't as terrible as I was preciting based on recent spiralling out of control.

SW: 10 st 8.6 (01/06)
CW: 10st 5.8lbs
GW: 9st 7.0

I think if I can end June with a 3lb loss I will be very happy with that.

Breakfast: Oats, Cacao Powder, Soya Milk, Frozen Raspberries
Lunch: Hummus & Chicken Wholemeal Wrap
Dinner: Chicken Wrap
Snacks: 2 cookies..... shhh

1 very short outdoor walk, cannot face anything else in this heat.

DreamingOfGeneHunt · 25/06/2026 07:12

14 stone 12 this morning! Woohoo, delighted with that.

Fellsbells · 25/06/2026 12:59

Great progress everyone. Well done for even weighing in this furnace.

I’m slightly up this morning, but I ate at maintenance yesterday because I was so hungry.

Funny how perception of progress varies so much depending on one bad photo or one bad weigh in. I was feeling quite flat about how slowly this was going but had to remind myself that since mid May I’ve lost 5lbs which is good progress. Just day to day it seems so slow. I can’t exercise in this heat either which isn’t helping. Looking forward to Sunday when it’s cooler.

moondip · 25/06/2026 13:27

I know what you mean @Fellsbells - that’s actually something I really struggle with and doesn’t help me with my all-or-nothing mentality towards junk food sometimes. I wish I was able to be a bit more realistic and balanced in my expectations of how long it’s gonna take to get me to my end-goal of around 72kg… There’s just something quite addictive about quick losses.

ChunkyMonkey36 · 25/06/2026 13:32

I’m really struggling with feeling huge in this heat, I managed to lose last week but my body just feels swollen and massive. Which isn’t great for the weight loss motivation!

More generally, when would you guys say weight loss would usually be visible? I’ve lost 16.5lbs now and as far as I can tell look exactly the same as before. I’m not doing it for vanity reasons but seeing the physical impact of the effort would be lovely!

namechangefor2mins · 25/06/2026 13:37

SW 14.04
CW 13.13
GW 10+
So 1lb off again. Satisfied with that - and not bad considering I haven't done any exercise for a week other than a very slow dog walk at 10 pm. Weather has zapped any energy. My face is so sweaty and puffy. This weather and being overweight just doesn't mix.

Noted your tips PipkinOfPepper, that is such a steady loss - well done. And to all who are just putting one foot in front of the other this last scorcher of a week.

namechangefor2mins · 25/06/2026 13:42

ChunkyMonkey36 I know what you mean. Apparently there is a feel it, see it, hear it motto but I can't remember the increments. It's something like 10 lbs increments so with the first 10lb, you should feel it, the next 10lb, you should see it, the next 10lb, you will hear it - other people will notice.

Fellsbells · 25/06/2026 13:56

@moondip I’m the queen of all or nothing. Although I have had a balanced approach for over a month so maybe I’m in recovery! Keep telling myself slow and steady will win the race, but it’s hard when you’re bouncing around the same lb for a week or two. So much effort goes into being a weight and fitness level that I’m not even happy with. I Need to remember it takes years not weeks to build the health and body you want.

@ChunkyMonkey36 I’m sure over a stone is noticeable. Usually people are too polite to comment on weight changes. I hold myself back from saying anything incase the observation is not welcome even if meant as a compliment.
The closer to your goal you get the more obvious it will be.

moondip · 25/06/2026 14:05

@Fellsbells That’s so well put actually. That a lot of effort is required to hover around a weight we aren’t happy with (but are still probably much happier with than where we were at the start…). I think I need to listen to some podcasts/audiobooks to help change my mindset towards more of a slow and steady approach.

@ChunkyMonkey36 I’ve noticed that I’ve had more remarks from close family over the last 5kg that I’ve lost vs. the 10-ish that came before it! I think that might be because I have started wearing tighter clothes again now I’m a bit more confident to, so they can actually see what’s going on better. Maybe. Or maybe they were just too polite to say anything before it became obvious that this might actually be somewhat sustainable 🤣

Bufftailed · 25/06/2026 16:32

Missed yesterday. Been a hard week. Starting 5:2 now with 800 cals. Haven’t got the discipline for everyday! 0.5 kg down this week;

SW 84 kg
CW 81.7 kg
GW 72 kg

Happy Friday Everyone ❤️

I hope you are all managing to find ways in which to stay cool 🥵

The Smart Scales and I have had a bit of a disagreement… horrendous 5lb gain (in a week) without increase in food. A quick Grok inquiry told me this is a thing in the very hot weather and is called Heat Edema. Basically it’s temporary water retention. I’m very much looking forward to my whoosh when the weather cools.

I’ve read a 2025 report on an observational study that suggests going without breakfast can correlate (rather than cause) with an increased risk of cognitive decline in some older people. Hence I’m trialing having breakfast although I don’t know how long that will last as I’m not usually ready for food in the AM. I’m simply having what I’d have after my evening meal earlier in the day hence no increase in calories. That said there’s also research suggesting IF promotes brain health.

Menu
Meal 1 - 2 boiled eggs. Followed by Fage 5%, stewed fruits & seeds.
Meal 2 - Mackeral salad.
Meal 3 - Seared Salmon salad.
Drinks - Tea, black coffee & water.

Gosh this post reads a bit stiff … soz x. I’m hoping to catch up on everyone’s progress later today xx

Found it funny and entertaining. Made me smile.
Let us know how you get on. I have not had breakfast for over 35 years. I am just not ready for breakfast in the morning. Never have been. Damage must already be done! Too late to remedy, me thinks. But i do do IF... surely that must ameliorate the 'no breakfast' consequences?😁

My steps are hoing well. I am averaging about 14K steps a day. I have been pretty consistent everyday for the last 35 days!!
Calories has been good too.
Water intake not so great ..500mls - 1.5L even with this heat!!
No strength training for the last 9 days !!!
But i have been consistently losing 200g to 300g every week. For the last 3 weeks. I am feeling happy with that.
I miss strength training. I will go back to it once this heat abates a little.

Pasta4Dinner · Yesterday 11:15

Surprising 0.4kg off this morning even in this heat. I’ve actually been spending longer in the gym because of the air con!

Thank you @Rosetimethats kind of you to say. Yes me too, I’m just not ready for food in the am by nature and like you if there is a correlation than the damage could well be done already 😅. It took me a while to get the food in and now I’m feeling overfull and I know I won’t want any lunch 🤷‍♀️ I think this will be my shortest ever ‘experiment’ 😬Absolutely well done on your losses each week. Getting week on week losses is quite difficult so I salute you 👏👌

Signing in to join before we move into July! Really struggling to lose weight since having my two DDs over the last 5 years - gone from an energetic slim size pre-kids to an exhausted overweight size post-kids. My previously flat stomach is now where I store the fat, along with thighs, so I'm wondering if it might be to do with cortisol (I haven't slept a full night since having my first baby five years ago, and find keeping on top of daily life with a f/t job and two kids stressful). Looking forward to this thread hopefully holding me accountable to actually changing something

ChunkyMonkey36 · Yesterday 20:33

We moved house today, in 34° heat. So I’ve either put half a stone on in the half a pizza I’ve just eaten and water retention from melting, or I’ve lost it from all of the horrendous sweat.

We’ll see!

DreamingOfGeneHunt · Yesterday 20:41

Stuck to calories this week, except for this evening and a tube of Pringles. However after the week I've had in a kitchen hotter than Satan's armpit, I think I'm allowed Pringles.
