These threads are for those who’d like to lose weight and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost around 45lbs. Currently I’m maintaining at 9st 2lb but I would like to get back into the 8’s 🤞

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

On a different but related topic, do you guys know/track your protein and stuff? I feel fairly stupid because I thought the 150g that the websites say I should eat is easy - an egg or 2 and some chicken or whatever, but then discovered that an egg has only 13g of protein so I think that would be difficult!

I had 100g of yogurt - 9g protein
a slice of ham - 4g of protein
one egg - 13 g of protein
chicken - 50g of protein

I know that the salad/bread etc will also have small amounts but I reckon I'm still nowhere near and that's me trying!

Fellsbells · 10/07/2025 19:26

@BlueOysterCultGroupie I’ve given up tracking protein, rightly or wrongly. I hardly hit the target unless I snacked on chicken breast all the time. I did keep Fage yoghurt in business for the best part of a year. It’s not easy.

I’ve spent all week with my children and picked up bad eating habits from them. Snacking, Wotsits and mini magnums are not ideal.

AnonymousMum37 · 10/07/2025 19:55

I track my protein but I aim for 100g and rarely hit it, I average 80/90g a day. I eat 250g of greek yoghurt for breakfast most days, and chicken, tuna or salmon salad for lunch with pulses and Quorn etc for tea.

BlueOysterCultGroupie · 10/07/2025 20:00

Thanks you two. Checked the bread/salad and I've probably totalled about 90g... so guess that's not too bad... but like you say I don't want to feel like a teenage wannabe body builder!

FrothyCothy · 10/07/2025 21:55

I mostly don’t eat meat so it can be harder, but I have a scoop of vanilla protein powder in my breakfast every day which helps. I tend to land just short of 100g protein which I’m happy with. Any more would be a total chore!

Morning All :)
I have my event tomorrow that I was initially trying to lose as much as I can for! Happy I have lost 6-8lbs since April for this, hopefully will feel confident in my dress and heels!
Then starting on Sunday, its around 21 days til my birthday - so I have decided to do 21 days with no (refined) sugar. Only eating whole foods and fruit. Just a mini challenge for myself because even though have lost weight counting calories I know I still eat so much UPF crap and I just want to be the healthiest version of me. I still find my face is puffy and skin can be bad so I am hoping for improvement in overall health!

I did a trial day yesterday and ate:
2 hardboiled eggs with Zaatar
Smoothie with spinach and banana and skyr
Apple and plum for snack
Chicken and veg for dinner

I was also really emotional and upset yesterday about something and staring at the cupboards in search for some sugar but very proud of myself as that's when I had the apple and plum and then I let myself cry it out and sit with my emotions. Then I slept like a log!!

biscuitcat · 11/07/2025 10:28

@BlueOysterCultGroupie I track my food in Nutracheck and it calculates protein for me, looking over the last month I’ve only averaged about 70g a day so probably not quite enough - at the moment I’ve got a fair few extra calories in my allowance because of breastfeeding, when I reduce that due to introducing solids and eventually stop I’ll probably have to add more protein so I stay full on fewer calories! But I agree, it’s harder than you’d think to get lots in without just living on chicken breasts.

@frostedshreddie amazing progress, well done! And good luck for the whole food project, I bet you’ll feel amazing for doing it.

I thought I’d share a super simple but incredibly delicious recipe for a raw courgette salad I made yesterday (also if you’re like me and expecting a glut of courgettes from the garden it uses lots up!) - I sliced mine super thin on the mandolin and used 1tbsp olive oil and the zest and juice of one lemon in the dressing (plus the mint, salt and pepper), and we had with some quiche. It’s lovely and sharp so you want something to balance it, I think halloumi would be delicious too, or maybe a pasta dish.

Courgette Salad

This raw courgette salad salad is made in just minutes and flavoured with lemon and mint for a refreshing summer salad.

LemonDrizzle23 · 11/07/2025 12:00

@biscuitcat that sounds delicious! I love a courgette. My dad grew some yellow ones last year and they were great!

I braved a walk this morning. It was 24C when I left and 27C by the time I got back 🥵 I was only gone an hour! All our blinds and curtains are closed. I’m officially hiding until school pick up time!

TheWayTheLightFalls · 11/07/2025 12:20

Can I have a very specific whinge about hot weather and weight loss?

I lose my appetite in hot weather. Great you’d think. In practice, I get to about 1pm on coffee and fresh air and then want to eat the contents of a small supermarket, and make terrible decisions the rest of the day.

Argh.

WearyAuldWumman · 11/07/2025 12:22

Two gym sessions on Wednesday. I think that'll have to be me until I go away for a family wedding - too much to do around the house and garden.

Might take a training band with me.

Bufftailed · 11/07/2025 12:34

So, started on Wednesday. Gym on Wednesday, going again now. Eating less in the evening and more earlier. Trying to make good choices although had crisps yesterday. Hoping to lose 2lbs this week

GrannyInTheGarden · 11/07/2025 12:58

Didn’t get quite as much exercise as usual this week due to sitting at a lot of officework, and should have reduced food accordingly. Have bought shredded lettuce and salad. Quick, easy, and healthy for this heatwave.

Panickyanicky · 11/07/2025 18:16

Hello All,

I have been on these threads under multiple times in the last few years. With all your help I actually lost 12kg a couple of years ago and kept it off for years but now I’ve gained over half of that back in the last 6 months.

Ive kind of just been ignoring it and hoping it’ll fall off again but today I’ve realised I am getting married in 7 weeks (August bank holiday) and if I want to reverse the gain by then I really need to actually do something now.

I am hoping all you lovely ladies can keep me on track, I realise I am going to need quite a big calorie deficit to make a noticeable difference in 7 weeks but I also don’t want to be walking down the aisle feeling ill from starvation either. Aim is to loose as much of those 6kg as possible.
I am a complete sugar junkie so I really really need to cut that out and also less carbs more protein.

BlueOysterCultGroupie · 11/07/2025 20:12

Thanks for all the input. I weighed out 100g of chicken and I couldn't eat it all (with some orzo salad and slaw) - definitely feels like a chore, but possibly explains all the cravings for carbs, because eating refined rubbish doesn't fill you up in the same way.

Enjoy the event @frostedshreddie and well done for sitting with your emotions, I'm rubbish at that!

Welcome back on board @Panickyanicky I lost weight here in 2019 and gained it all back and then some Angry Does your outfit fit or is it just to get more comfortable in it?

socks1107 · 11/07/2025 22:39

I’ve done a bbq for tea and stuck to a burger and lots of salad. All yummy.
I find the hot weather makes me really hungry so I ate a bigger meal at lunchtime today.
Hope everyone else is enjoying the weather

Sjanish33 · 11/07/2025 22:46

Hi everyone

I feel good (hot though) I am 11 days into July and I have been logging my meals, no alcohol and lots of water - the weight is slow to go as usual - I have a treadmill and I do that each morning, tried a walk outside yesterday at the hottest part of the day and only managed 2km - I was melting!

The water is helping me through especially with the hot weather - I weigh on Tuesdays which I'm shortening to WOT? (Or What not!) but I'm hopeful to have a good weekend and maybe get a couple of pounds off to join last weeks -3lb.

Hoping you're all enjoying the good weather

Panickyanicky · 12/07/2025 07:52

@BlueOysterCultGroupie my dress fits fine if anything it’s slightly on the big side. It wasn’t made to measure or anything so I made a point of ordering it a size that would fit just incase as it’s always easier to make things smaller than bigger.

I’d just like to feel at my best, when I initially lost the weight I felt so much better in myself and I’d like to get as close to that as possible on the day. Although accepting I may have left it too late.

I do intermittent fasting as I find once I start eating the flood gates are open. I have got into the habit of having a big lunch so step one is get the lunches lighter again.

PatienceOfEngels · 12/07/2025 10:35

Morning all!

Still feeling really stressed and anxious despite being one week into school holidays (teacher so term time only), daily yoga and woodland walk. And today up to 77kg. To be fair, kids are driving me nuts, it's hot (not as hot as the UK atm, will be 27 today) and right at the end of my cycle.

I know I'm still eating too much with snacking (greek yoghurt and muesli last night at 9pm...why?!) and portion size (despite healthy mostly homemade meals). I was out for dinner with friend Thursday which was delicious and today is a family birthday so lots of treats in the house.

Went to donate plasma for the first time this week and it made me really sick/dizzy when they were giving me back my red blood cells so not sure of that's what making me still feel so lacking in energy. My iron was quite low when they tested beforehand, right on the edge of what is allowed so wondering if I should follow up with my GP (no particular reasons why I should be low in iron - not a vegetarian/vegan, don't have very heavy periods, a long time since I had my kids). I had low B12 when I was pregnant with my second and that might also be a culprit.

Plan for today:
-boiled egg, rye toast with butter, 2xcoffee with milk
-yoga (25 minute Adriane video)
-lunch?? not sure what to have
-going for a walk in the woods in a bit
-mid afternoon apple pie and cream with tea
-beef rendang with rice and broccoli (I made the curry yesterday and it is delicious)

TheWayTheLightFalls · 12/07/2025 10:41

I hear you on the holidays @PatienceOfEngels . I imagine it’s more pronounced as a teacher. We’re off from next week and I am bracing myself.

Had one egg sandwich for breakfast here. Chicken wrap for lunch. Out at a friend’s for dinner but it’s, without outing myself, a very specific cuisine that I am expecting not to enjoy so will be slightly gritting my teeth and sticking to ice water and sides.

PreetyinPurple · 12/07/2025 11:14

I was absolutely definitely joining the gym this week but a nice peri menopausal period started and I’ve been feeling so unwell. Not fun in the heat.
I’m keeping up with the diet though even though I’m not exercising. Hoping I get a small loss when it passes.

Panickyanicky · 12/07/2025 11:37

I haven't had the best start to my less sugar, light lunches plan. My gran requested a bake a cake and who I am to say no to a 85 year old lady who wants some lemon sponge!

Cake is for an afternoon tea she is hosting tomorrow, which I will now be going to, but I have eaten 3 little cupcakes I made as a taste test with the leftover batter. Going to count them as my lunch and probably be starving all afternoon as a consequence.

I managed a very gentle yoga class, so gentle that I'm not sure it counts as exercise and also a short dog walk this morning.

LemonDrizzle23 · 12/07/2025 12:04

We will be joining the summer holiday gang on the 23rd. DS is a wonderful child, but a lot! We have lots of fun things planned, but it’s a definite change in routine for all of us.

Got my 5k walk in this morning before the heat came. Going to be 30C again here. We will mostly be hiding and watching Wimbledon!

CursiveCrisis · 12/07/2025 14:51

Can I join for accountability and motivation please?

Started on the 27th May and so far have lost 12lb. I’d like another 2.5lb off in the next 11 days for my holiday, then aiming to keep going until I get to 9st 6.

Start: 13st 0.5
Today: 12st 2.5
Goal: 11st club by 23rd July
Goal 2- pre holiday weight by 14th August.

Will then look at future goals on my return but will aim for 1.5lb a week until target.

Should have said, I don’t get chance to exercise, or rather I am too lazy and tired. I did however manage a 15 dance workout this morning. Not fully immersed, but built up a sweat and moved the whole time.

BlueOysterCultGroupie · 12/07/2025 20:28

Oh well that helps then, although will it need altering if you lose a lot? I also do IF @Panickyanicky

@Sjanish33 too hot for that! I did some yoga-ish exercise just now with some slow squats and lunges thrown in. 3lbs off is a great start!

Very good of you to donate @PatienceOfEngels yes B12, iron/ferritin and folate or Vit D can all make you feel awful.

Welcome @CursiveCrisis great start you've made.

Hot hot hot! Eating OK, sleeping not great. meant to be a few slightly cooler days next week too, phew!

Hope you're OK @TheRealHousewife
