Following on from ☀️LOSE IT! May 2025☀️

⭐️OPEN TO ALL⭐️

Here comes summer!

It’s never too late to make a change, to make a difference and feel confident in your body.

To reach optimum health and vitality we need to focus not only on our food intake; but movement, mental health and sleep quality too!

Who doesn’t want to feel good and energetic as well looking great! Get on board to reset & refresh and become a healthier version of yourself.

These threads are for those who’d like to lose weight and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost just around 45lbs. After having been on the wrong side of 12st, the last time I weighed I was hovering around 9st 2lbs. I would like to get back into the 8’s 🤞

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

New members … Give it a go; it’s never too late! Come summer you’ll be pleased you did 😊

Beloved long timers it would be great for you to keep going❤️

I've been away so not WOWed this week, and because no change on the scales the previous weeks.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to get started?
💕

I agree with lego, lots of different approaches but really it's all about creating a calorie deficit in a way that best suits you.

If you feel you're at a standing start, perhaps think of a few things that feel easy/doable that you can do today. For me that would be:

I can drink one extra glass of water.
I can finish eating 30m earlier than usual today.
Instead of bread/pasta, I can eat veg.
I'll go for a five minute walk at lunchtime.
I'll do an online shop today, and I'll factor in a few more healthy meals I like.

Etc.

SummerOak · 26/06/2025 11:18

@2in2022twoyearson ugh hate questions like that. Why do some people have the need to comment about other people's bodies?

@mermadeincornwall I've only recently started focusing on losing weight. I'm counting calories to make sure I'm in deficit and also walk every day at least 8,000 steps. I've also started running this week. It's all about finding what keeps you motivated.

shufflestep · 26/06/2025 11:47

I forgot to WOW so did this morning instead; not a great week moved from 69.7kg to 69.5kg. Still, better than putting it on I guess.

BlueOysterCultGroupie · 26/06/2025 12:50

Hi all, the day started with birthday cake before school/work, so not the best, but just had a seed pitta thin with meat and cheese and watermelon/pineapple, so hopefully that'll keep me on the straight and narrow till Chinese tonight Blush

I've made it a policy to never ask anyone if they're pregnant unless I can see the head Wink It is rude! I have been asked it too (now probably too old for anyone to suspect it)

Definitely not an expert @mermadeincornwall but a really healthy day would be:
B: fage yogurt, berries and a few nuts
L: bacon/scrambled egg, slice of toast, melon or pineapple
or left over chicken with salad or some sort including a carb such as cous cous
D: family meals eg curry and rice, pasta bolognese etc but not having all the naans, multiple bits of garlic bread etc
Little treat like a fab lolly for about 100 calories

LegoTherapy · 26/06/2025 17:20

Commenting on bodies is something I’ve instilled in children that we don’t do. Ds said it to dd who them told me and she’s old enough to know better. I had two people in the space of a year ask if I was pregnant. I did weight over 2 stone more but even so. I used to eat falafel at lunch on a Friday and I told my patient that it was the falafel because it used to make me so bloated. Amazing though from the middle eastern takeaway near work.

I’ve had a tiny scone and a very small slice of strawberries and cream Victoria sponge. Some seeds. A Babybel light. Not sure what dinner will be.

WearyAuldWumman · 26/06/2025 17:45

Yesterday, my pal couldn't go to the evening gym class, so decided to make a day of it (since I wasn't picking her up).

Did a 5 min HIIT and then a leg workout and then had a late lunch. Went to the pre-booked Senior Flex club...only to find that someone was covering and would "just do aerobics instead".

To my surprise, managed to keep up with most of it. That was a 45 minute class.

Grabbed a coffee and sat for a bit and then went to my regular evening session. 10 mins on the bike, sliding down the wall with big Yoga ball behind back (no idea what that's called), some arm raises, biceps curls, up and down curls for for arms and 'salt shaker' weighs for forearms.

Confession. Went home and ordered a lemon chicken with boiled rice and ate the same.

Today, my weight is down by half a pound. Go figure.

Just did a brief workout today. Didn't want to miss, cos I can't make the gym tomorrow.

5 min HIIT walking and then lat pull machine only. Tried 30kg, but that was no go. Finished up doing 2 sets of 25 for lats, triceps and biceps...and went to the cafeteria for lentil soup with creatine and a toastie with salad.

NothingTraLaLa · 26/06/2025 18:00

Missed WOW yesterday (and last week). Down a paltry 0.2lb in 2 weeks. Better than a gain though!

CW 121.4 lbs
TW 112 lbs

Fellsbells · 26/06/2025 18:04

Down 1.5lbs today from yesterday. Silver lining to IBS. Astonishingly one of my go to safe foods that calms everything down is curry so that’s for dinner tonight.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 26/06/2025 18:11

Pleased to be down to 10st 6.5 today. Not quite the holiday goal of 10st 4 I was hoping for but not bad. My exercise has been non-existent lately, but I want to get back on it when I’m back in two weeks. In the meantime, I’ll at least get lots of steps in on holiday!

BlueOysterCultGroupie · 26/06/2025 20:53

Well done everyone, especially @WearyAuldWumman that's an impressive amount of exercise and @LegoTherapy that was very restrained when faced with scones & cake!

Today was not a great day of eating at all, but despite me really wanting to eat and eat more (typical at the start of my period) I've stopped at dinner time when I felt full and stayed out.

I did a quick walk walk walk with Leslie... I'm sure you were/are also a fan @TheRealHousewife - just a quick 17min video that covers a mile walk and been listening a bit to a lady who has overcome her binge eating and is now a trained dietitian. She actually offers group therapy sessions which may be an option for me in future.

LegoTherapy · 26/06/2025 22:36

Amazing progress, well done!
I’m proper hungry. Today has been totally messed up with food. The scone and slice of cake was kind of lunch but around 3pm. Then I didn’t get back from my mum’s until gone 9pm. Plus I only had a couple of biscuits for breakfast. Terrible. I’ve had two babybels but I’m proper hungry right now. I’m waiting for Dd to get back from her prom. She’ll be starving because she messaged to say the buffet was all meat based stuff. £80 a ticket and no veggie food 🤬 She’ll want a hot chocolate and a chat before bed. Maybe we’ll eat more cake or scones. I’m way under both calories and carbs due to the very small scones and small slice of cake so why not.

Keep going everyone, I think we’ve turned a corner in many cases and those who haven’t yet, are right behind us. Let’s enjoy the journey, we’ll get there in the end. Why is everything these days a fucking journey though? Seriously, it really winds me up.

LegoTherapy · 26/06/2025 22:55

Fellsbells · 26/06/2025 08:30

Thanks @LegoTherapy

Sorry to hear about your pre diabetic diagnosis. You’ve probably got information and advice coming out of your ears, but it’s worth reading about not eating naked carbs. It’s basically always eating carbs with fat and protein to slow digestion and reduce your blood sugar spike. I controlled my gestational diabetes with it. And lost over a stone in weight!

Naked carbs eh? That’s an easy thing to remember, thank you. I’ve not been back to see the nurse yet but they only put you with the HCA and seeing as I was a GP nurse it seems a bit pointless. She’ll just give me the NHS healthy eating info that I already know. I’ve had a quick read and for pre-diabetes it’s recommended that carbs should be 130-200g so my 125-150g is fine. I’m hoping it drops down quickly. There is a course I can go on too. I’ll have a look at that but it would have to be online due to looking after my mum. It’s great that you controlled your GD. I looks like such misery to be pregnant and be restricted. Carbs were pretty much the only thing I could eat without feeling or being sick.

socks1107 · 27/06/2025 08:01

I’ve dropped my calories by 100 and dropped that stubborn 1lb today. So… I’m now 3lbs to do in two weeks. I ‘’might’ be able to do it!

socks1107 · 27/06/2025 08:02

@LegoTherapy I’ve been looking at carbs this week and trying to stay under 150 so that sounds about right given your diabetic advice?

frostedshreddie · 27/06/2025 09:05

Well done everyone!!
I am still plodding along. Enjoying (weirdly) the IF though. I'm finding it is helping me to simplify everything as I know the kitchen is closed until X time. I am drinking herbal tea and lots of water to tide me over. Have ordered some electrolytes and collagen to add to my water as well.

Bickybics · 27/06/2025 09:53

back to where I was a week ago. So in 2 weeks I’ve lost 1kilo. Such a slog. Was hoping i would do that new diet drop a good bit in the first few weeks thing.

WearyAuldWumman · 27/06/2025 13:32

The new diet drop phenomenon only happened with me when I was very young: once I hit my late 20s it no longer worked.

Now that I’m in my 60s, it’s a real slog. That’s partly why I’m concentrating on the gym - adding exercises or new weights stops me getting disheartened.

TheWayTheLightFalls · 27/06/2025 13:37

It may feel slower than you like but a rate of 500g a week is 26kg a year (if you need to lose that much even). Use something like HappyScale to help you track, if you aren't already. It really helps.

Bickybics · 27/06/2025 13:49

I’ve just done that thing where I’ve hit peak fatness and I want to lose a stone asap, which I know is silly.
I did some weights last night for the first time in years and I am SHATTERED though 😂

frostedshreddie · 28/06/2025 08:50

I FINALLY managed to do a workout this morning. Have not been feeling it on the exercise front recently which is frustrating as in April I was in a good swing of daily workouts and exercise bike in the evening. Anyway I done it, I moved my body yay!! I only did a beginner workout to ease me in. It was a 20 mins growithjo video, I just love her energy!!

Also I took my measurements this morning as was curious , and since beginning of May I have lost 1.5 inch on my thigh and waist 🥳 nice little NSV there.

Have a lovely weekend everyone :)

SummerOak · 28/06/2025 10:02

Well done @frostedshreddie
I've been struggling this week, not with food or workouts just with the scale showing I'm putting weight instead of losing. I ran 4 times this week and did HIIT on the days I didn't run, also stayed within my calories. And I gained 0.5kg 😩
I'm sure some of it is water retention, but when does the scale start to go down instead of up while exercising?

socks1107 · 28/06/2025 12:56

@SummerOak I’ve been struggling with that and have stayed off reading this thread as much as I was becoming a touch obsessed. It has gone down again so I’m happy for now.

today I’ve just been told is a day of pizza! Ahhhh it’s just one day I must remember that 😂

WearyAuldWumman · 28/06/2025 14:02

Was out of the house yesterday and made the healthiest choices that I could, but deviated from my diet.

I think that I'm my carrying up to a pound of extra food weight today. Not sure. Legs are really sore...

Guess which idiot went walking about Edinburgh with an orthotic in only one shoe and didn't realise until she got home? No wonder I was walking lopsided!

Met a friend who looks really good - has lost a lot of weight on Mounjaro in only a couple of months. I've said before that I considered it, but it's not for me - I have a dodgy stomach at the best of times and now have to be careful with lactose and gluten. I'm not allergic to gluten - I paid for a test - I can get off with it in small amounts.

Lactose seems to be a bigger problem, ever since the great food poisoning debacle a couple of years ago. I'm currently using mainly watered down oatmilk (to halve the calories) plus Lactojoy tablets when I'm out and about.

The other factor is that - along with 69 other British students - I went down with giardiasis after swimming in the Kuban' River in 1980. We'd been boiling all our water and using chlorine tablets when boiling wasn't possible. Turns out that chlorine doesn't work on that particular bug and we stupidly somehow thought that the bug was only in the drinking water, not the river. Doh!

We all got the appropriate meds when we got back home - thanks to the Institute of Tropical Medicine diagnosing one of the girls. However, 45 years later some of us are still having problems.

Longwinded way of saying that I'd be tempted to try Mounjaro, but it's not worth upsetting my already delicate tum.

Fellsbells · 28/06/2025 15:28

@WearyAuldWumman I enjoyed your story! Completely understand not wanting to upset a delicate digestive system.

speaking of which I seem to be on the mend.

GrannyInTheGarden · 28/06/2025 17:33

I need to get a grip on so much, including food.
