Hello Members, both Original and New!

Following on from 🍁LOSE IT September 2024🍁

Where did September go!

Now October is upon us, it’s time to start the 12 Week Countdown to Christmas 🎄🎄🎄

If you’re a returner or a new starter feel free to jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.
As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.
We generally have a WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).
I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost nearly 4 stones. After having been on the wrong side of 12st I am currently idling around 9st. Aiming to reach my goal of 8st 12lb.

Are you in?😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Feel free to share your own links, tips & recipes.

Also adding to the don’t run unless you love it club. It does absolutely nothing for me. Infact it makes me hungry and I eat more calories than I burn.

LemonDrizzle23 · 16/10/2024 09:59

Well done to everyone weighing in! I completely missed that it was Wednesday, so I shall check in first thing tomorrow.

@Fellsbells I hope you get some more sleep soon. Lack of sleep makes making positive choices very hard.

@Coatsoff42 running hatred here too 👋

Well a non-scale victory for me - my watch / phone tells me that my cardio fitness has risen from low, to below average. Still obviously some way to go 😬 But it's a start.

Iamnotaloggrip · 16/10/2024 21:33

Another running hater here! I prefer cycling and Pilates, and swimming when it’s warm (on holiday 😬). I missed Pilates this morning though as my alarm didn’t go off. Or I didn’t set it properly (probably the latter but genuinely unintentional. Luckily I woke up in time for work!)

10.11 again this morning, but down slightly by half a pound or so. So right direction but very slow progress.

Had some homemade carrot soup and sandwich for lunch today with a jacket potato and salad for dinner. Salad and chicken with rice tomorrow, and I’ll get a walk in the morning up to school. Will try to do Pilates in the evening instead but I’m usually knackered by then!

Hope everyone’s doing OK. Thanks for the motivation!

LemonDrizzle23 · 17/10/2024 06:58

A day late with WOW, but no changes here for me. Too much chocolate eating going on!

I have been enjoying my aqua fit though. I've found a couple of classes run by a guy who does the entire thing to electronic music and D&B - a proper base line to splash around to. It's great fun!

OliveZebra · 17/10/2024 08:15

Very late joining this thread (hopefully that is ok) this is my first time posting.

I’d like to get to 63kg over time, but would be happy anywhere below 67kg by Christmas.

SW 69kg
GW 66.anything

I’m pretty inconsistent with my approach and tend to undo any progress I make fairly quickly! I’m going to try and focus on portion control and not snacking between meals.

Fellsbells · 17/10/2024 13:44

Welcome @OliveZebra

I am eating lots of healthy, whole food as and when I feel hungry to help to stop the evening junk food hoovering that has caused problems recently.

Sugar and UPF is making me fat and moody.

Fellsbells · 17/10/2024 18:07

Mostly good day.
B- greek yoghurt, blueberries and flax seeds.
L- vegetable tagine, low fat halloumi, salad.

D- salmon, sweet potatoes, green beans, garlic bread. Greek yoghurt.
S- small choc bar and a cookie.

(The cookie was a mistake, and waste of 300 calories.)

I’m trying to remember if I’m hungry it’s better to cook and eat a meal than start snacking. Getting hungry is a mistake because then I make bad choices.

RainbowWife · 17/10/2024 19:22

Hello everyone, I mentioned on the calorie counting thread but I've been hitting the food hard this week. Managed to stay within my calories except Tues when I went 200 over but I could easily have gone 2000 over if I'd let myself, thankfully somehow managed to stop. Don't know why I'm finding it so hard, this is the longest I've ever stuck at anything though so won't be giving up now.

I'm starting to fret about Christmas.

I know. It's early! But there was a thread on what christmas bakes you'll be doing and I realised I shouldn't really do any. There's no way I can resist scoffing homemade goodies. I'm surviving now by not buying anything but having fresh cakes, cupcakes, rocky road etc in the house for guests? No chance. Especially when I know my bakes are so good 😁I've made a christmas cake specifically because I don't like them.

OneDayIWillLearn · 17/10/2024 21:29

@RainbowWife last week was a real struggle for me, for no apparent reason this week feels easier….sounds like you have done amazingly to me.

I am having a similar thought process around home baking - I was watching Bake Off yesterday and thought, ‘oh maybe I’ll bake with the kids this weekend’ and then realised there is no way I can….as soon as there’s cookie dough or raw pastry around, it’s going in my mouth, never mind the finished product! But it feels rather sad to think of never baking again so I’m a bit stuck with a way forward.

My approach in August (when we were away loads) was to maintain rather than lose anything over the month and I think I’ll do the same in December. I was off track more days than I was on in August but I did make sure to go back to the good habits on the (few) days I could and it did pretty much work out that I maintained where I would often put on 5lbs (and the rest!) in a holiday month. And I was all the more ready to start again in earnest come September!

rainbow616 · 18/10/2024 06:54

Morning everyone,

I've been pretty good this week! I've walked at least 10,000 steps a day, eaten healthily, cut down on carbs and done my yoga too. I am horrendously bloated though! I am just about to come on, but this has been going on for over a week now and I'm so uncomfortable! I've tried loads of different things to get rid of it as well and nothing! But I am happy with an almost 3lbs loss.

SW 12st 12.8lbs
CW 12st 10lbs
GW 12st by 15th November

Hope everyone else had a good week!

PatienceOfEngels · 18/10/2024 09:48

Horrible week here.

DC broke bone in nasty fall as school so they're now at home. Cancelled plans for half term (including any time I had planned for myself away from the kids). Fx we can still head to visit family next week.
Crazy pressure at school and home. Frustration with management and students .
My head is so full and all I want to do is cry and eat crap. Managed to get out for a walk but skipped yoga with everything going on yesterday. I just want to hide in a cave.

rainbow616 · 18/10/2024 10:12

Oh no @PatienceOfEngels, so sorry to hear you've had such a terrible week. Sounds like things can only get better 🤞

RainbowWife · 18/10/2024 13:52

Sorry to hear this @PatienceOfEngels rotten luck for you. Sending good wishes to you.

@OneDayIWillLearn thank you, and yes I hear you completely! Maybe best to avoid baking for a while as we're learning new habits (unlearning old ones!). Good idea about aiming for a maintain in December.

Fellsbells · 18/10/2024 16:56

@PatienceOfEngels sorry to hear everything has been so awful this week. Hope you have a restful half term.

Yesterday and today have been better for me. 6 mile walk this morning and sensible eating.

LemonDrizzle23 · 19/10/2024 08:17

I'm sorry @PatienceOfEngels it's awful when they injure themselves. And add that to the stress of teaching these days. I'm not surprised you want to run and hide.

@OneDayIWillLearn yep, the Christmas baking is an interesting topic! Food is definitely a big part of our Christmas celebrations, and we're hosting in-laws this year, so I will aim to cook a few new recipes. I think my plan is to avoid getting in any big tubs of chocolate / sweets / crisps etc. and to not let the food season last for the whole of the Christmas holidays. DS is off for nearly three weeks for some reason this year! So I could do some real damage in that period if not careful!

ChickenChipsandBeans · 19/10/2024 13:02

Hi everyone. Weigh in day for me today. I've lost 2lbs. Feel good as I have been mindful of food and twice this week squeezed in a youtube workout on the days I didn't have time for my walk. My son had a horrible and quite serious bullying episode, someone who was a friend, which made it worse. The bully is apparently not well and hasn't been taking his medication. The school has suspended him for a week, the parents called us and were really sorry, but said they couldn't control their son and to make sure that they don't run into each other outside school. Just very worrying and I had a bottle of wine that night which obviously didn't help at all, but highlighted how eating/drinking are effected by emotions. Also, have to learn to reduce the amounts of food I'm cooking. Both daughters are now in uni, they were here for summer, and it's just automatic to cook for 5, plus extras to heat up the next day. Have a good week everyone x

PatienceOfEngels · 19/10/2024 13:52

Thanks for the support everyone. I've had a few good chats with family and feeling better. Holiday is here and I'm going to try and relax and enjoy it. Have had a lovely slab of birthday cake this morning with coffee, followed by not a very healthy lunch, after a takeaway last night. 2 days off yoga.

Back on it from now - spinach and ricotta tortellini tonight with broccoli and a creamed spinach sauce. Will try and get some yoga in as well, and walk this evening if it stays dry.

LemonDrizzle23 · 20/10/2024 21:23

Hope everyone has had a decent weekend all things considered.

We attended a party and a magic show yesterday, and met some friends in town for a museum visit and lunch today. Shattered now! But it's been a lot of fun.

Currently crashed out on the couch watching 'Groundhog Day'.

LemonDrizzle23 · 22/10/2024 09:29

Well I've finally seen the scales move in a downwards direction this morning, so I will be stealing this weight for WOW tomorrow if for some reason it bounces back up again 😂

TheRealHousewife · 22/10/2024 14:07

Good Afternoon You Lovely Lot

Some great results being shared!

Im hoping to resume normal service next week as the kitchen alterations should be concluded this week. The whole house is a dusty mess and I’ve an ironing pile as tall as Kilimanjaro 😬.

@LemonDrizzle23 Great news & Good idea! Although I’m sure it won’t 🤞

@PatienceOfEngels Sorry to hear of yours child’s accident and I wish them a speedy recovery! Sending a hug and a cuppa! ❤️

Fab result @ChickenChipsandBeans 👍

@rainbow616 Fantastic steps/exercise = positive results! Well done 👏

I’ve only scrolled back so far and I’m nervous about scrolling further as I don’t want to lose this post.

Id also like to remind posters that for some reason my Mumsnet notifications go an old email account. I’ve tried countless times to get Mumsnet to change to no avail. Hence I never know when I’ve been tagged or new posts added. Apologies if I’ve not answered anyone ❤️

Morning everyone. A whole pound off for today’s WoW! So down to 10.10 now which I’m really happy with, esp after all the chocolate I ate on Sunday and Monday 🙄.

Today will be a salad and fruit for lunch, then homemade curry for dinner.

Hope everyone else sees some progress on the scales!

LemonDrizzle23 · 23/10/2024 07:43

Morning WOWers!

@PatienceOfEngels hows your poor DC doing?

Finally a loss of 0.5kg for me this week which is nice:
SW: 97.5kg
CW: 92kg
10%: 88kg

Feeling quite motivated by the countdown to Christmas and the new year. Also that I can tell my body shape is changing with exercise as well. Hope everyone has a good WOW.

Fellsbells · 23/10/2024 07:49

I’m 2lbs down this week. 5lbs off GW, feeling good about getting there soon.

good luck for WOW.

OneDayIWillLearn · 23/10/2024 08:59

12 stone 3lbs exactly this morning, 2lbs off from last week.

Really chuffed with that. My original target was to be 12 stone by my birthday which is this weekend, but when I weighed in on the first WOW of September after the summer hols I think I was 12 stone 11 so I revised it to ‘within reach of 12 stone’ and I think I can say I made that! Lowest I’ve seen on the scale since 2022 (maybe even 2021?).

Ive got a birthday weekend away coming and then a week away with the kids for half term so I’m expecting a bit of damage to undo after that.

And then my next target is to see 11 stone on the scale this side of Christmas AND to still be seeing an 11 at the start of the new year.

PatienceOfEngels · 23/10/2024 10:39

Morning! A whole kilo back on after a birthday week (and one filled with stress). I have done so well this half term with keeping my stress levels under control and then one difficult incident and it's all gone to pot. 5 days of no yoga, too much eating, not enough steps, waking in the middle of the night. I really do think I need therapy to help me deal with my anxiety and how I react to bumps in the road (I was diagnosed with Social Anxiety Disorder a year ago..was initially referred for an autism diagnosis which was negative, but SA does fit a lot of how I've been feeling for the past 30 years).

It was such a stressful few days (combined with stuff at work) I only feel like I can relax now.

Thanks all for your kind wishes, @LemonDrizzle23 @TheRealHousewife and everyone else who's checked in.

Hospital appointment yesterday went well so DC now has a new cast on forearm (more mobility as the first one was half way up upper arm) but he needs to be careful with it as it heals which is not an easy feat for a kid with severe ADHD. So, no cycling to school for the next month at least (now need to work out how we're going to get him there and back), no respite weekend away in a few weeks (they do lots of outdoor activities and I just couldn't trust him to be calm), and we will talk to school about a quiet spot at lunchtimes because I know he'll just forget and go and play football or basketball or something.

The good news is...we are in England! Left home at about 4am this morning and arrived at my mum and dad's about an hour ago. Really looking forward to some quality time with my mum, dad, sister and nephew/niece. Have dug out my Jilly Cooper novels from the loft to celebrate the new Rivals TV series so looking forward to lots of time to read and relax.

SW 77kg (just over a year ago)
CW 72.9kg
GW 68kg

I am not expecting the scales to move in the right direction this week as we're here till Sunday and I will be raiding the supermarket today, eating out at zoo or up in London tomorrow, birthday teach for DN Friday, out for lunch Saturday!
