A boring thread of calorie counting/whatever accountability

Hi, fucking hell, I'm trying to gradually make changes and loose weight sustainably but I keep falling off the wagon to the point that I'm flat lining/ beginning to trend upwards so I'm going to try calorie counting instead for a while while I get back down. Threads like this have helped me in the past, but I'll probably only post weight I what I've eaten - anyone want to join & encourage each other?
I'm 5 foot 10, 88kg and would like as a first goal to eat 1500 -1600 calories a day and get down to 85kg before Christmas, with a longer term goal of getting to 80kg and possibly staying there, possibly getting to 75 (which is actually a healthy weight for me.

@AspirationalTallskinnylatte You can do this! Weighing/measuring foods and logging the calories will achieve sustainable weightloss and healthy eating habits. Can I join you? I’m short (and old) aiming for 1400 calories a day using the NHS app.

This is day 2 for me.

AspirationalTallskinnylatte · 16/09/2024 18:55

Hi @SilverPearl ! How did it go for you today?
I had:
B. Avo toast & fried egg (500)
L. Leftover spag bol & banana (500)
T. Chicken fajita & salad (500)
S. An orange & a drink of cordial (100 ish)
A bit over but fine.
Hope you had a good day x

can I join you? I’ve just got back from holiday and weighed myself. I need to lose a stone.

SilverPearl · 16/09/2024 20:02

Today’s food:
1 shredded wheat with milk and chopped walunts
Ham salad whole meal sandwich
Veg curry with whole meal bread
Natural yoghurt

Plenty of water and 2 ports of tea

I have a routine cholesterol test in a couple of weeks. The last test was slightly high and I really want to lower it through diet, plus drop the abdominal fat that has accumulated post menopause.

Your day looks well balanced and delicious @AspirationalTallskinnylatte
Hi @OublietteBravo what is your calorie goal?

How are you calculating your calories?

Are you weighing everything and calculating by packet per 100g?

When you make meals you need to make a 'recipe' on the calorie counter (which ever one you use) and then divide the full amount by the portion sizes.

So your spag bol and then pasta weighed out.

They look like guesses to me

OublietteBravo · 16/09/2024 20:34

I’m going to try and limit to 1500 per day, and cut out alcohol completely for the next 4 weeks.

OnTheJourneyOnwards · 16/09/2024 21:11

I'm on a weight loss journey too! I've lost 5.5kg so far and my jeans are starting to feel loose 🥳

I'm doing a diet called The Fast 800, which is 12 weeks of rapid weight loss, followed by 12 weeks of controlled eating and some fasting. I'm actually really enjoying it.

Anyway, might sound mad but this diet suggests 800 calories per day for 12 weeks.

So today I had:

B: Homemade fruit compote and full fat Greek yoghurt with a sprinkle of nuts (200 calories)
L: Quorn chicken satay with salad (400 calories)
D: 2 boiled eggs and asparagus (200 calories)

2/3 cups of tea with milk so perhaps a tiny bit over my 800 target, but I'm so proud of myself so far ☺️

Are you not starving!? 12 weeks is a long time to maintain that calorie deficit. Are you allowed a day off?

AspirationalTallskinnylatte · 16/09/2024 21:28

Wow! Well done @OnTheJourneyOnwards ! The food even sounds nice.

Looks like a good day@SilverPearl

Those are slight approximations from mfp, where I put the recipes in years ago @soupfiend but shouldn't be too out of whack. What are your goals? Are you also calorie counting?

I count everything but that is primarily to ensure protein and fluid levels, so the calories come alongside although thats not my priority right now. I had WLS but still needed to know what I was eating to ensure a) eating enough and b) learning what is maintenance.

So now Im just half a stone from my target weight but its taken 6 months to lose the previous 6lbs! So a long time. Im a very slow loser but am very precise at knowing what my intake is. I weigh everything and have tons of recipes stored so that I know what it all is.
Ive lost just under 10 stone now

SilverPearl · 17/09/2024 18:04

@soupfiend Congratulations on your weight loss. Did you have a gastric sleeve?

How is everyone doing? I intended to complete a strength training session tonight, but I have a cold so I’m taking paracetamol and going for a walk instead.

Food today:
Shredded wheat with milk and walnuts
Chicken salad sandwich
Chicken casserole with green beans and mushrooms
Lots of water.
Hope everyone is having a good day.

soupfiend · 17/09/2024 18:07

Yes a sleeve, 18 months ago although I lost 3 stone just prior. So only 7 stone since the op if that makes sense.

SilverPearl · 17/09/2024 18:16

@soupfiend Losing 3 stone prior to surgery was a fantastic start to the process. You earned the surgery.

Thank you, I cant tell you how hard its been, its physically and emotionally challenging and its for life, you cant just decide one day to have a day off!!

Anyway, we all need whatever tool we find best for us so good luck to you too

OublietteBravo · 17/09/2024 18:21

I didn’t have an auspicious start. No breakfast at home due to only arriving back from holiday yesterday. The only option in the canteen was a raspberry croissant, so I had that and a latte.

I got back on track after that. Soup for lunch (sweet potato and chilli), plus several cups of tea.

And I went out and ran 5k, so I’m currently at 17,500 steps for the day.

AspirationalTallskinnylatte · 17/09/2024 19:08

Wow, 10 stone is amazing @soupfiend ! I don't think I could cope with never having a day off.

Nothing wrong with a bad start when you correct course @OublietteBravo , it's important not to feel like one misstep breaks everything.

Today I've had
B. Toast & marmite (350)
L. 8 gyoza, stir fried cabbage, and an apple with half a spoon of peanut butter (600)
D. Roast chicken, new potatoes & salad with dressing(400ish depending on how many spuds I have)

OP posts:
SilverPearl · 17/09/2024 19:49

@OublietteBravo Well done for getting back on track. If I skip breakfast a couple of days I end up failing by scoffing biscuits in the evening.
@AspirationalTallskinnylatte Lunch sound nice. I can’t allow peanut butter in the house as I end up eating it from the jar!

soupfiend · 17/09/2024 19:54

Freeze the peanut butter in tablespoon portions

AspirationalTallskinnylatte · 17/09/2024 20:34

I'm the same with biscuits @SilverPearl , if I buy a pack I'll eat it all in the same day so I just don't buy them.

I'm calorie counting but I do struggle in the evenings.
I've just scoffed a few biscuits, I'm still in a calorie deficit but I need to curb the evening snacking. Any tips?

Cheese and biscuits instead or is that worse in terms of cravings?

Im going to have a bit of cheese on slices of cucumber now as I cant really have crackers anymore (well I do sometimes)

It fills a little hole but I still nibble on chocolate from time to time

GreenMarigold · 17/09/2024 21:56

Please may I join? I’m half a stone over my normal weight and a stone over where I’d like to be. I know it’s not a huge amount to lose but I’ve been trying on and off for years and I really need to do it.

Today I ate:

yoghurt and fruit for breakfast (250 calories)
naked burrito in lettuce leaf with small piece of baguette for lunch (500 calories)
chicken thigh, sweet potatoes, spinach and green beans for dinner (450 calories)

I also had an ice cream and a couple of squares of chocolate this evening (200 calories). I really struggle with evening snacking too @Willthiswork78.

SilverPearl · 17/09/2024 22:14

@Willthiswork78 I find low calorie hot/cold drinks help and I completely relate to the biscuit problem. I love crunchy foods, so have toasted whole meal bread to satisfy that urge.

@GreenMarigold I love sweet potato! Do you have dark chocolate for maximum flavour hit?

afrikat · 17/09/2024 22:21

I've lost 38lbs and have 14lbs to go. Aiming for 1400-1600 calories a day so would like to join!

Today I had

Greek yoghurt, chia seeds, summer berries, cherries
Salad with rocket, tomato, avocado, pine nuts, Jalapeños, pickles, cottage cheese, olive oil and Balsamic
Protein yoghurt
Chicken thighs with cajun spice, broccoli, cauliflower rice
One piece dark chocolate
Several cups of tea

Just over 1300 calories

Did 15000 steps (3 x 45 minute walks)

I like to brush my teeth after my evening meal which helps me to stop snacking.
