A boring thread of calorie counting/whatever accountability

Hi, fucking hell, I'm trying to gradually make changes and loose weight sustainably but I keep falling off the wagon to the point that I'm flat lining/ beginning to trend upwards so I'm going to try calorie counting instead for a while while I get back down. Threads like this have helped me in the past, but I'll probably only post weight I what I've eaten - anyone want to join & encourage each other?
I'm 5 foot 10, 88kg and would like as a first goal to eat 1500 -1600 calories a day and get down to 85kg before Christmas, with a longer term goal of getting to 80kg and possibly staying there, possibly getting to 75 (which is actually a healthy weight for me.

What's everyone else weighing in at? What are your (very) short term goals? I'd love to be down to 12.4 next Sunday, and to be able to do up my size 16 jeans without breathing in.

OneDayIWillLearn · 14/10/2024 08:51

This was last week’s calories (food and exercise). Does this look right or do I need to be adding less for exercise/ activity? What’s Nutracheck assuming about my baseline activity level? I’m switching to Nutracheck from being a long time WeightWatchers user so still finding my way!

My target is set for me to lose 1lb a week and I’m 5 ft 7 and 12 st 7lbs starting (having already lost a stone on WW since June). I set Nutracheck to ‘light’ for exercise as my days vary a lot - I pretty much always do at least an hour of purposeful walking (which I’m adding) but my work varies in that some days I’m just working at a desk and other times I’m doing hours of physical work (constant standing/ heavy lifting/ walking - similar to gardening I’d say - so that’s what I’ve been adding as the activity though I’ve rounded down a lot in terms of how long).

anyway, I’m only wanting slow weight loss - 1/2 lb to a pound a week would be plenty! But I’m wondering if this is going to end up not enough to generate any loss at all? I haven’t officially weighed in this week yet but I feel more like I’d be lucky to maintain.

anyway, any thoughts on how you figure out activity and exercise welcome!

@OneDayIWillLearn on these groups the general agreement is not to eat the exercise calories. So your goal is 1458, just stay within that.

I know when my wife was eating her exercise cals she was gaining or maintaining. Since she stopped (on advice from here) she has lost every week.

Good luck!

@SnugglyJumpersMakeItBetter well done you!

I've lost 2st 2lb now, taking me down to 20.1. I'm chuffed to bits with my progress. My short term goal is to get down to 19stone by Christmas.

RainbowWife · 14/10/2024 10:12

Yesterday I had;

B: Chai tea latte with oat milk at Costa, and Belvita breakfast biscuits - 398

L: Subway notorious BMT sub (yummm) - 514

D: Persin aubergine and tomato stew with rice- ??? no idea but all good ingredients, just a bit of butter for the rice.

S: 2 coconut macaroons (300) and 1 date (26).

Think about on target, guessing because of dinner. A lovely Sunday!

CbeeGeeBee · 14/10/2024 12:10

Have any of you tried a Killa Vanilla stick? I’m a massive biscuit fan, especially with my 10pm mint tea. I can’t resist scoffing 5 at a time! Anyway… these little sticks have a chemical based smell in them (like a Vicks inhaler) that is designed to replicate the smell/taste of all your favourite sweet things. The idea is that smell & taste are linked and you trick your brain into thinking you’ve had your sweet fix. I sit there inhaling like a drug addict - my DH thinks it’s so funny - but it works!!!

@RainbowWife thought that would probably be the case. It seemed a lot more than I was eating on WW too, where I was tracking and eating activity points (and losing) but I think they are a lot less generous than calories.

Screwdrivver · 14/10/2024 14:34

With crisps (233)
Dinner: Stilton pecan and apple salad (526)

Hi all,
I started the year at 92 kg and my aim is to be lower than that this new year 😂
I'm currently at 87.5 kg. I'm hoping to drift down to below 87 by November and somewhat lower before the Christmas eating begins. I'd also like to get below chub rub size by next summer.
Todays food:
B. Toast and butter with a boiled egg
L. Homemade roast pumpkin soup, cheese sticks
D. Pasta bolognese (and a spoonful of lemon curd for pudding - I'm not proud!)
Approx 1200 calories

Mon 14th Oct:

Breakfast: Smoothie - 150

Lunch: Cottage cheese - 150
Cheddar and spinach muffins - 250
v. dilute juice - 50

Dinner: Houmous - 150
Wrap - 100
Raspberries - 50

Total: 900

Just one short walk today of around 25/30 mins. I'm still feeling totally crap. I like to think it's kick-starting my diet by giving my stomach a chance to shrink but I'm not sure it works like that!

Obsessedwithsourdough · 14/10/2024 23:20

I will join you! Started calorie counting a few days ago full of determination but today I just fell off the wagon. I hate myself. I wish I could wave a magic wand. In the past I have lost weight on my own but these days I just can’t seem to stick to it beyond a couple of weeks.

RainbowWife · 15/10/2024 09:07

Good luck, @Obsessedwithsourdough and welcome to the thread. Some of use nutracheck to help us track, I find it really helpful. Do post your days here, it helps seeing it written down every day!

SnugglyJumpersMakeItBetter · 15/10/2024 21:49

Tues 15th Oct:

Breakfast: Juice - 100

Lunch: Mushroom soup - 200

Dinner: Gnocchi - 300
Peas - 50
Butter - 150
Juice - 50

Total: 850. I might have a lolly or a yoghurt in a bit, I'm not sure. Everything tastes weird and I feel a bit sick but I'm still hungry! I had a walk of about 40 mins today, but have otherwise been very sedentary.

SnugglyJumpersMakeItBetter · 15/10/2024 21:49

Hello @Obsessedwithsourdough ! What have you eaten today?

AspirationalTallskinnylatte · 16/10/2024 08:34

Yesterday's food was a bit weird and snacky because I had a yoga class 1:30-2:30 and I can't eat before it:
B. 2 bananas
S. Cheese and olive bread stick, slice of bread with some coleslaw in it.
S. Half a peroni
D. Cold roast chicken, homemade potato wedges, coleslaw, salad
S. 2 squares of dark choc, 2 slices of toast & lemon curd

RainbowWife · 17/10/2024 19:06

Yes @SnugglyJumpersMakeItBetter I've had quite a few WOAH moments when I've realised how many calories are in something I'd have polished off no problem before this.

And with our Gousto meals too- we stick to under 600 now (occasionally slightly over) but when I look at the calories for previous favourites, woweeee. I think it's the carbs and cheese sending them up to the thousand mark.

RainbowWife · 17/10/2024 19:10

I've been an absolute eating machine this week, god knows why. I went 200 over on Tues and was disappointed in myself, but managed to be 100 under today and yesterday so hope that helps a bit. I really hit the sugar on Tues, still about 1/8th of what I used to do, but still a LOT when you're calorie counting. So 200 over sucks but I showed enough restraint to not go 2000 over, which I could easily have done! (Whole tub of Haagen Daz anyone?)

😑

Anyway, today I've had;

B: Strawberry and granola yogurt - 195

L: Ham, cream cheese and piccolo tomato sandwich - 305

D: Sticky nam Jim pork and orange udon noodles (Gousto meal) - 607

S: Prawn cocktail wotsits (70), 16 orange mini eggs (248), a light babble (41), a caramel snack a jack (51), and 1 date (26).

100 left. Good day as I stopped myself eating the whole bag of mini eggs!

SnugglyJumpersMakeItBetter · 17/10/2024 23:12

Thursday 17th Oct:

Breakfast: Smoothie - 150

Lunch: Broccoli - 50
Butter - 150

Snack: Juice - 100

Dinner: 'Mediterranean style grains' - 200
Chargrilled peppers - 50
Halloumi - 200
Cucumber - negligible
More of that bloody dip - 350
Strawberries - 50
Halo top ice cream - 100

Total: 1400. For those wondering why I'm eating such a crazy calorific dip when I'm trying to lose weight, my mum bought it for me specially and I can't just chuck it! I wish she hadn't though! I had one walk today of around 45 minutes.

SnugglyJumpersMakeItBetter · 18/10/2024 19:18

Friday 18th Oct:

Breakfast: Smoothie: 150

Lunch: Cuppa soup - 50

The rest of that blinking dip - 350
Bistro salad - negligible
Cheese - 100
Mini bell peppers stuffed with cream cheese - 150
Cherries - 50

Total: 1350. It's getting harder now I'm getting over my bug and am hungry again!! I had one walk today, around 45 minutes.

RainbowWife · 18/10/2024 19:25

Today I've had;

B: Belvita breakfast biscuits - 204

L: Ham and piccolo tomato sandwich - 305

D: Lamb moussaka - 518

S: A pear (52), pineapple fingers (36), avocado sushi rolls (170), a small smoothie (75) and 1 date (26).

283 left and I'm STUFFED. Good day!

AspirationalTallskinnylatte · 19/10/2024 08:57

Hello! Yesterday my parents came to visit so diet went a bit haywire. I had:
B. Toast & butter
S. Slice of chocolate cake
L. Pumpkin soup
D. Chicken chorizo pasta, 2 glasses of wine, 2 ice-cream mars bars
S. Toast with lemon curd
I reckon that's about 2300

Today I will reign it in - no snacks!

Saturday 19th Oct:

Breakfast: Smoothie - 100
Thin bagel with butter - 200

Lunch: Chestnut and mushroom patty - 200
Tomato sauce (not ketchup, homemade veggie sauce!) - 100
Juice - 50
Cake bar - 100

Dinner: 'Massive salad' as Mumsnet would say. All sorts of gubbins in it - 800
Raspberries - 50
Yoghurt - 50

Total: 1650

Wow. Ok, that's not so good!! So much for sticking to 1300! I had one walk today of around 45 mins, and generally been more active that I have been, raking up leaves etc.
