A boring thread of calorie counting/whatever accountability

Hi, fucking hell, I'm trying to gradually make changes and loose weight sustainably but I keep falling off the wagon to the point that I'm flat lining/ beginning to trend upwards so I'm going to try calorie counting instead for a while while I get back down. Threads like this have helped me in the past, but I'll probably only post weight I what I've eaten - anyone want to join & encourage each other?
I'm 5 foot 10, 88kg and would like as a first goal to eat 1500 -1600 calories a day and get down to 85kg before Christmas, with a longer term goal of getting to 80kg and possibly staying there, possibly getting to 75 (which is actually a healthy weight for me.

@RainbowWife @AspirationalTallskinnylatte how are you guys getting on?

Thanks for asking! I've been struggling to get back into it the last week since being on holiday, it's really thrown me off. But still plodding along.

OneDayIWillLearn · 07/11/2024 22:46

@RainbowWife its been a bit bumpy for me too post half term! I’ve gone between feeling really motivated and finding it easy and then BAM make some really crappy choice and blow off course.

today, for example, had a really busy morning and didn’t get to lunch until well after 1.00 so was very hungry. DH and I went for lunch together in a cafe and rather than order the soup which I always do there, I suddenly found myself ordering a cheese toastie with chips!! Followed by half a millionaire shortbread. Over 1000 calories blown 🙄

I felt pretty full after all that at least so we had a light dinner but calories came in at about 1800 which is 200 over target.

could have been worse but I could have made it so much easier for myself!!

SnugglyJumpersMakeItBetter · 07/11/2024 22:58

I did a workout today, about 30 mins.

SnugglyJumpersMakeItBetter · 09/11/2024 23:02

I went over yesterday. Prob about 1700 altogether. I did have a decent walk though.

Sat 9th Nov:

Breakfast: Juice - 100

Lunch: Cuppa soup - 100
Cherries - 50
Cake bar - 100

Dinner: Salad with halloumi and grains - 700?
Halo top icecream - 100

Total: 1150

2 walks, a little short one and a longer one, about 1.5 hours altogether.

OneDayIWillLearn · 10/11/2024 11:00

Well done @SnugglyJumpersMakeItBetter

Ive just had two days where I’ve been just shy of 3000 calories so safe to say things are not exactly going well this week! My mojo seems to have gone AWOL since half term (and just as I was smugly thinking I’d really cracked ‘the diet cycle’ and wasn’t going to go back to the bad old ways this time).

So I’m feeling a bit despondent 😭

SnugglyJumpersMakeItBetter · 10/11/2024 20:02

@OneDayIWillLearn

I am sorry. It can really get you down can't it? I've never struggled so much with a diet before. I always am either being a bit on the greedy side, or properly dieting sticking religiously to 1300 cals and exercising every day. This one has been so half hearted and wishy-washy! And then not seeing amazing results makes you think 'why bother' so you go ahead and have that slice of cake and then feel even worse and so it goes on. I think it's because life generally is a bit pants at the moment, it's hard to get in that positive 'I can totally do this!' frame of mind.

SnugglyJumpersMakeItBetter · 10/11/2024 20:24

Sun 10th Nov:

Breakfast: Juice - 100
Cereal bar - 100

Lunch: Sweetpotato + bean wrap - 400
Proper chips - 100
Smoothie - 100
Millionaires shortbread - 300

Dinner: Houmous - 200
Flat bread - 200
Feta - 100
Cucumber and lettuce - negligible

Supper: Mini banana - 50
Yoghurt - 50
Cake bar - 100

Total: 1800

Crap. It's SO DANGEROUS to go shopping while hungry! I eat a much more calorific lunch if I get a 'meal deal'. Dammit. I did have a proper walk this morning though, an hour and a half with lots of hills.

I weighed myself and I'm now 12.1! I'm reeeeeally hoping to be 11.something next Sunday. You feel like you're getting somewhere when you get down into the next stone bracket!

SnugglyJumpersMakeItBetter · 11/11/2024 19:59

Mon 11th Nov:

Breakfast: Oat bar - 250
Juice - 50

Lunch: Millions of mini spinach muffins - 300
Flat bread - 200
Guacamole - 250
Red pepper - 50
Cake bar - 100

Dinner: Pasta - 250
Butter - 100
Salad - negligible
Cheese - 100
Banana - 50
Yoghurt - 50
Cereal bar - 100

Total: 1850

Oh dear. Too late now though! I had one walk of around 50 minutes.

OneDayIWillLearn · 12/11/2024 18:05

I came in around 1200 yesterday (baked potatoes for dinner) and on just over 1000 today (stir fry for dinner) but maybe have some yoghurt and raspberries later on, so probably about 1200 again.

I went back to The Last Diet yesterday and today and listening to the second half of the audiobook. I re-did some of the early exercises from that and plan to do some more. It helped! I think I need to remember that I’m committed to the process and try to do more of the things around the food/ weight itself which really help e.g. journaling, drinking water, remembering to have a forgiving mindset etc

So feeling a bit better again today!

@RainbowWife we miss you - any update from you?

RainbowWife · 12/11/2024 20:43

Yes, I've been spending less time online and have started cross stitching to keep my hands busy in the evenings! But I'm here!

A forgiving mindset is so important isn't it.

I'm on a roll, yay. Had my usual yogurt and granola pot for brekky, ham and cheese sandwich for lunch with crisps, and lamb and apricot stew for dinner. No snacking, so ending on 1200. The lowest in ages. Well done me!

@RainbowWife that sounds sensible! I’m also trying to spend less time online (not altogether successfully 🙄). Well done on a good day x

Sunflowers098 · 13/11/2024 22:37

Can I join? I've got 3 stone to lose and I've just started calorie counting...

OneDayIWillLearn · 14/11/2024 06:22

@Sunflowers098 yea of course

Yesterday was a bit challenging for me because a) I was giving a talk for work where the lunch was part of the event and b) I had a dinner planned which would have been ok if I’d had a low cal lunch but I’d forgotten about a) and c) my husband decided to open a bottle of wine!

BUT I stayed clear of the wine, avoided an all or nothing mentality and ended the day on about 1600 calories (which is about exactly on target, albeit I try to do less during the week to have a bit more slack at the weekend)

SnugglyJumpersMakeItBetter · 18/11/2024 10:23

@Sunflowers098 Hello Sunflower! What are you initial goals? Mine is to put my jeans on without wriggling/breathing in! I really want to have them sliding on effortlessly by Christmas!

SnugglyJumpersMakeItBetter · 18/11/2024 10:29

I've not been logging my food because I've not been trying very hard this week. Not binging or anything, just a couple of chocolates here, another portion of pasta there, a little more grated cheese... I know, I said I'd log it anyway even on days I slip up! Going to try to get my head back in the game now! For the next 4 weeks I'm going to attempt to give up butter! I feel like it's my downfall! I slather it on everything and it's so calorific without being filling! I won't beat myself up if I do have a bit, but I'm really going to try going without. It's better for general health anyway!

I weighed myself on Sunday and I hadn't lost anything, still 12.1. Disappointed but not surprised! This week it WILL be different!

Sunflowers098 · 18/11/2024 23:01

@SnugglyJumpersMakeItBetter
Hello! My goal is 3.5 stone.
I've done slimming world countless times with some success in the past but every time I rejoin I fall off the slimming world wagon quicker and quicker! ( like just a few days sometimes!!)
So.. a new tactic.
Joined a gym.
Got a personal trainer once a week. ( he's brilliant and it's really helping me train and stick to his nutrition plan)
Calorie counting using nutracheck.
1 month goal. Learn my way around the gym and feel confident there instead of embarrassed. Stick to my calorie and macro goals.
3 month goal. Lose 1.5 stone
6 month goal. I've signed up for a charity walk and would like to complete it within the time allowed and not actually die trying!

Sunflowers098 · 18/11/2024 23:02

I've also been listening to "the fitness chef" on Audible which has been quite motivating

Twoshoesnewshoes · 19/11/2024 10:04

Can I join?
I’ve been calorie counting and cut out most carbs for the past two weeks. Aiming for 1200 a day, achieved that most days and some days nearer 1400. Thirty minute walks (lots of hills!) three or four times a week.
i put on 1 lb😑
really don’t know what to do now so any advice would be appreciated.
i am currently 10st 3lb and aiming for around 9st 6 ish. I’m 48 and 5’4”.
ive just come off HRT (again!) so hoping that helps

OneDayIWillLearn · 21/11/2024 20:58

@Twoshoesnewshoes if you’re sticking to that you will lose weight but weight can fluctuate considerably due to water retention - roughly speaking a pint of water weighs a pound so your body really doesn’t have to hold on to much extra to throw the scales off. Especially with hormones and cycles etc in the mix! I would just keep going and see if you start to see a pattern after another few weeks.

Having said that I’ve just been away for a very fun but totally not on track conference since Tuesday….so after a model day on Monday I’ve had three pretty bad ones.

Back on the horse tomorrow…..

SnugglyJumpersMakeItBetter · 30/11/2024 11:02

Hi everyone! It's been a crazy busy couple of weeks! I've been sticking to my diet though, more or less! Just weighed myself and I'm 11.10! So things are definitely moving in the right direction. Hope everyone else is doing ok?
