Following on from LOSE IT! Awesome August

Drum roll please! Now it’s the time for an Autumn Re-set!

If you’re a returner or a new starter feel free to jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have a WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost nearly 4 stones. After having been on the wrong side of 12st I am idling around 9st 4lbs after having been hovering around 8st 12lb for several months. TIME FOR ACTION and get back on it! 😬

Are you in?😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Feel free to share your own links, tips & recipes.

WoW..... 1 stone lost!
A whole 14lb down despite falling heavily off the wagon, target of 1lb per week but exceeded that over the last 9 weeks.
I am checking here most days to see how everyone is doing even if I am not chatting, thank you everyone for keeping me on track.
I am getting so bored of my salads now even though I am trying to be creative and add amazing dressings. Will be spending the next few days looking for alternatives that do not include a sandwich from the food van that comes everyday. 53lbs to go!

Week 9
SW - 15.11
CW - 14.11
GW - 11

I have one of these Stanley food jars @OneDayIWillLearn which is handy for when out and about (at work I do have a fridge and microwave). Just requires a little more prep to warm up before I head out.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08BCS1R66/ref=twister_B0CWCSGL5F?_encoding=UTF8&th=1

@PatienceOfEngels that looks just the job - even goes in the dishwasher?? I had worked out I would microwave soup in a jug at home, which could then go straight in the dishwasher. So if the flask can go in the dishwasher too that would actually be pretty easy!!

loving the soup recipe suggestions. I love anything with lentils in (lentils, onions, tomato and smoked paprika make a nice soup I think).

Are there any ready-made soups (tins or cartons) that people recommend? I know home made is best but sometimes having things something on stand-by or extra easy is what I need!

IDareSay · 18/09/2024 10:08

Goal for September was continue with free weights and lose 2kg.

I have not missed a weights session so I'm pleased with that but not eaten well the last few days; too much wine, cake, bread....unlikely to lose 2kg by the end of this month but will plough on.

Back up to 69.3kg this morning, so gained 0.6kg. Not as bad as it could be.

However, checked my diary and realised that my starting weight was higher than I remembered at 73.5 kg! So I actually lost 4kg in August.

SW: 73.5kg (11st 8lbs)
CW: 69.3kg (10st 13lbs)
GW: 67.5kg (10st 9lbs) End of September
GW: 57kg (9st)

PatienceOfEngels · 18/09/2024 10:23

I posted a tonne of soup recipes on this thread around the 3rd of September @OneDayIWillLearn .

I'm not in the UK so my supermarket recommendations are probably not very helpful! If it was up to me we would only eat homemade soup but my husband will often (like tonight) use a tin of condensed soup (we have unox here, maybe Campbells in the UK) and then add soup pasta like vermicelli or macaroni, with pulses (black eyed beans or lentils) and extra fresh or tinned veg.

I think that flask can go on the top shelf of the dishwasher (we don't have one so I've never thought about it!).

@Lem0nTang0 for lunch I do love hot stuff which is either leftovers, soup or something I've made specially the night before. Other dishes I like are cold pasta salad (keeps well so can make 2-3 portions and store in fridge), omelette, frittata or spanish omelette (can put all sorts in), a pre-done baked potato to nuke and add cheese/grated carrot to (at home I'd wilt spinach and add to fried mushrooms with cream cheese), homemade humous with crudités, avocado on toast or in a salad sandwich.

LegoTherapy · 18/09/2024 10:24

@Lem0nTang0 woohoo! Way to go! Congratulations you must be thrilled with that milestone 😃

Caeneus · 18/09/2024 11:34

SW: 11st 5lbs
CW: 11st 2.5lbs
GW: 10st 5lbs

Only 0.5lbs down this week. A bit disappointing after the good first week, particularly because I’m not really sure what’s been different. But it’s a number I haven’t seen on the scales for a while so not getting disheartened 🙂

Lem0nTang0 · 18/09/2024 11:42

@Caeneus quite often the first week is made up of all the water you are getting rid of so you know that the 0.5 is pure fat! well done 😁

@LegoTherapy thank you I am buzzing! trying not to look at the road ahead just plowing on

@PatienceOfEngels We have limited places to warm food at the moment but we should have a new kitchen in the new year at work and then it will be a game changer! going to throw together some pasta salads i think

SkyeBlue28 · 18/09/2024 12:46

For WOW I was down 1/4 lb but I was actually expecting the scales to be up as I have my period. I’m also not getting as much exercise done this week but I have fit in two walks which is better than nothing. I’m feeling extra hungry today but I have all my food logged already in my fitness pal so I will do my best to not go over. I will be in McDonalds this evening as my child has a football match and the team are going there afterwards but I’m not getting any food there. I will have dinner before the match and I have logged a latte on MFP so at least I can enjoy that. I’m not a huge McDonalds fan but sometimes I change my mind when I buy it
for my children and smell it so I need at least to have a nice drink.

SW: 10st 1lb
CW: 9st 9 3/4 lb
GW: 9st 7lbs (for now)

RainbowWife · 18/09/2024 13:25

Well done everyone on the WoWs. I weigh in on Sunday mornings.

Seem to be struggling this week (week 3) but reminding myself I've always given up by now. Only gone over the calories on Nutracheck once in the 3 weeks which is excellent for me.

Accbabymom1994 · 18/09/2024 15:51

I'm gonna climb the scale tomorrow hopefully after keeping the fast

Accbabymom1994 · 18/09/2024 15:51

Congratulations on ur losses everyone

Skyglimmer · 18/09/2024 17:04

Well done everyone my weigh in is also on Sunday. I am hopefully as been on track with my calories and working out so far.

NothingTraLaLa · 18/09/2024 17:32

Well done @Lem0nTang0 - I’m sure you can keep it up!

Down a couple of pounds since last week but as it’s my first week back at it since summer I am well aware that it’s probably just water weight. I’ve been doing as much exercise as I can without it being counterproductive (not completely through the Long Covid four years in so have to be careful) and food has been good, I think. Out for a formal dinner at the weekend which means I get to glam up for once, but it’s a set menu so I’ll have to eat what I’m given, and there will be wine.

SW 128 lbs
CW 118 lbs
TW 112 lbs

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 19/09/2024 06:57

We have this flask @OneDayIWillLearn Flask

put some boiling water in to pre heat the flask while heating soup in microwave, when I used to use this regularly for DS packed lunch I’d do this while sorting breakfast, then empty water and add soup.

For pre made soup, I’d probably look at the cartons of fresh soup from supermarket or M&S, but we have a pressure cooker so will often through soup ingredients in that while making dinner to do some batches.

i was just over 10st 7 yesterday. A few pounds up on my weight from the start of the summer, but less than the 11st I started the year at. Now focused on trying to get to 10st by Christmas then see if I want to lose any more then. I swear I’ve got dense/heavy bones as I’m pretty thin at 10st (from what I vaguely recall, it’s been a long time) despite being fairly average height. We’ll see, just need to reach the magic 10 though. I was 13 1/2st when I started (several years ago, it’s been very slow progress for me).

PatienceOfEngels · 19/09/2024 07:01

Managed to stick to yoga, steps and food plan yesterday except I made a dessert (we rarely eat dessert!) so added toffee pudding and custard to my list!

Plan for today:
-boiled egg and rye toast w butter, coffee
-yoga in my classroom ✅Done!
-fruit/veg plate
-soup and bread with spreads/dip
-surprise dinner as DH is cooking
-walk this evening

Now going to have a cup of herbal tea and get some marking done before my first lesson.

RainbowWife · 19/09/2024 11:58

I need breakfast ideas please, under 250 max 300 calories. I eat yogurt pots with granola from Aldi every day and I'm getting sick of them. I don't want to cook anything and I’m not a huge fan of porridge unless it's got golden syrup in 😄

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 19/09/2024 13:12

We mostly cook breakfast so not much help @RainbowWife. crumpet with plain yoghurt, berries & chia seeds?

oat breakfast muffins (could bake a batch and freeze) made with frozen berries, served with yoghurt and fruit?

skinny bagel with cream cheese?

SkyeBlue28 · 19/09/2024 14:11

I like having Weetabix for breakfast and I find it quite filling.

LegoTherapy · 19/09/2024 14:25

@RainbowWife I have porridge with syrup. Or occasionally Greek yogurt with fruit compote and honey. Jam works fine too I've discovered. I don't eat eggs unless they are in cake but lots of people eat things like frittata or breakfast muffins.

PatienceOfEngels · 19/09/2024 16:03

Greek yoghurt with banana and honey (maybe a sprinkling of oats).
Hard-boiled eggs with wholemeal or rye toast (I hard boil eggs in advance and keep in fridge).
I know you said no cooking but eggs are so quick...
An omelette (this is our Friday morning breakfast as it's so quick! My boys have ham and grated cheese in theirs, I prefer a few mushrooms or sliced pepper).
Scrambled eggs and wholemeal toast.
Batch cook and freeze american style pancakes. I love banana pancakes or pumpkin pancakes (for both I use a Hairy Dieter's recipe). Can add a dollop of Greek yoghurt and drizzle of honey. Sometimes I take in some batch cooked pumpkin ones for lunch and the staffroom smells like autumn when I heat them up from the cinnamon/nutmeg that's in them - everyone is always jealous!
Toasted bagel with cream cheese and snored salmon.
Overnight oats (I'm not really a fan).

Now I'm hungry! I love breakfast!

RainbowWife · 19/09/2024 16:27

Haha, I'm the same with eggs @LegoTherapy 😁

Thanks for the ideas. I have a sandwich for lunch most days so don't want toast either as too much bread. I find weetabix too boring without sugar 👀you see my problem, everything I like is with added sweetness!

I've recently switched to oat milk so will have to try it with porridge and see if it's not too.... oat-y.

2 crumpets with jam would be under 300 so definitely going to try that. Just have to resist the lashings of butter too!

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 19/09/2024 16:36

Have had porridge oats with blueberries for breakfast.
snacked on a slice of cathedral city light cheese and whole large bag popchips.
lunch, boiled egg and avocado and walnut salad with toast and marmite.
snack of nectarine with Greek yogurt, flax seeds and honey. Have heard flax seeds are good and walked 7km yesterday.

You could try oat puffed up (Rude health do one or two varieties of it) with yogurt and berries. Or their granola.

RainbowWife · 19/09/2024 16:56

Oh I love pumpkin @PatienceOfEngels but I can't find a Hairy Dieter's recipe for them. Do you have one you could share please?

I also love banana pancakes! I've found the recipe and gonna go buy a banana tomorrow especially.

I hate breakfast. My worst meal of the day, which is unfortunate since I always wake up starving.

PatienceOfEngels · 19/09/2024 17:17

This one @TheRealHousewife

It's from the Go Veggie book. I can't get hold of tinned pumpkin puree here so I roast a butternut squash and blitz it.

I don't bother with the apple compote.
