Following on from LOSE IT! Awesome August

Drum roll please! Now it’s the time for an Autumn Re-set!

If you’re a returner or a new starter feel free to jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have a WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost nearly 4 stones. After having been on the wrong side of 12st I am idling around 9st 4lbs after having been hovering around 8st 12lb for several months. TIME FOR ACTION and get back on it! 😬

Are you in?😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Feel free to share your own links, tips & recipes.

We are not getting a takeaway. We are not getting a takeaway. We are not getting a takeaway.
I will cook. It will be delicious. I will feel better for eating home-coooked food.

Putting this here for accountability! BBL to let you know if it worked 😂

😂😂😂 what is your favourite takeaway though?

Fellsbells · 14/09/2024 11:55

You can do it @PatienceOfEngels we have been (mostly) take away free for two months and it’s doable.

PatienceOfEngels · 14/09/2024 11:56

Well that's a question!

If in the UK Fish and chips but not available where I live.

We were going to get a Chinese which is more of an Indonesian tbh (crispy pork with veg in soy sauce, with nasi and bami - fried rice or noodles with veg/ham/egg, spring rolls).

We had chips a few weeks ago -nothing like UK chip shops chips, more like what you'd get in a pub - with frikandel (super processed sausages) and kroket (meat mixture covered in breadcrumbs and deep fried).

We never get pizza as prefer to make ourselves (but I'd get dominoes if we did).

If I gave the kids the choice they'd ask for McDonalds every time.

Indian is not so big here or Thai but if we went out we might go for pancakes.

Just about to head to supermarket with my list. Going to make fajitas.

PatienceOfEngels · 14/09/2024 18:37

We did not get a takeaway 😂🎉

Though I did eat wotsits while playing cards with DC2 in the garden in the last of the sunshine. Swings and roundabouts!

Didn't get all my steps in but spent 3 hours gardening so happy with that instead.

Has been a good day: exercise, decent meals, only a little snacking, time outside, a few household errands/chores, spent time with DC. Feeling pretty relaxed.

LegoTherapy · 14/09/2024 23:40

@PatienceOfEngels result! I love a worst sandwich. It has to be something like hovis white sliced, no butter. Put wotsits on one half of the bread, fold over then bite in from the folded end. Heaven especially in bed while reading a book. I've not had one for a long, long time.

My eating is not great because I've not felt well today and have been a bit off all week. Mainly breadsticks and red pepper hummus for lunch and dinner. I love the Crosta and mollica breadsticks and Waitrose red pepper hummus. UPF free and delicious. However I clocked the calories in the breadsticks and realised why my light lunch is not having any weight loss effects. I happily eat half a box and tub. It's healthy and filling though with lots of protein, fibre and good fats. I added an apple yesterday for extra healthy bonus points. In 11 days I'd walked 100 miles and I think it caught up with me today. I need a rest day tomorrow and plan on making some soup with Dd ready for the week ahead.

LegoTherapy · 14/09/2024 23:40
  • wotsits sandwich. I wish the app allowed editing.
Skyglimmer · 15/09/2024 07:01

I did weigh in today and another 0.6kg down. I started on 1st September and already over what I was planning to lose each month 😄
SW - 62.7kg
CW - 61kg
GW - 52kg
I just wanted to note that I am only 4'11 so that is why my goal weight is on the lower side

TheRealHousewife · 15/09/2024 08:10

Happy Sunday!

We have come away for a few days which I’m pleased about. A bit of sea air is good for the soul plus the beloved dog loves the beach 🏖️

Well done @PatienceOfEngels for swerving the take out, not always easy especially if you have others who are shouting for it. 👏👏👏👏

Great graphic @HomemadeHallie 👍👌

Little blood sugar scare yesterday; I’m insulin resistant and nearly in the pre-diabetic range. I’ve recently had my thyroxine dose increased which the GP thought would help. I mostly always avoid sugar/sweets etc. I can’t remember the last time I had sweets! Well, in the car journey yesterday the other half had a bag of fruity chewy sweets and it was my job to unwrap and pop them in his mouth as he was driving. I got a bit mixed up 😬 Next thing I realise I’ve mainlined about a dozen 😳 … after the first one it was like CRACK! Well, an hour later my blood glucose was 13.8 mmol/L which is critically high. Took hours to come back into normal range. Lesson learnt. I most certainly won’t be having any more!

Menu
Meal 1 - Will be a sensible pub lunch after a walk on the beach.
Meal 2 - Cold cuts & cheese with side salad.
Tea, black coffee and water. Quite possibly a small glass of wine with lunch.

I love the sea @TheRealHousewife . Just booked a night away for me and DC in 2 weeks and we should be able to spend a bit of time on the beach.

Yoga outside done(a bit later than usual today).

Plan for today:

-boiled egg, rye toast, coffee
-?humous with sliced sweet peppers, leftover guacamole.
-slice of speculoos cake (need to get it out of the freezer!)
-schnitzel, roast potatoes, green beans and broccoli

Going to get outside for a few hours in the sunshine and continue tidying up the garden. Will be in the depths of autumn before I know it and have 2 weekends away coming up.

Scales need a new battery so either saying low or giving me different readings depending on where I put them!

Fellsbells · 15/09/2024 09:41

@TheRealHousewife have a lovely time at the beach, hopefully the weather is kind to you.

@PatienceOfEngels well done on not having a takeaway.

I was out last night so had wine and pizza. I was only just over my allowance because of a leek soup lunch.

Happy Sunday everyone

Just wanted to share this , so all of these years I had been thinking not a big breakfast it's only a bread roll with egg in it , but just look at those calories!!! I'd normally have this , then a full on lunch at 1 , then keep on munching till dinner then have a full on dinner , no wonder I piled on the pounds , the calories come from everywhere. I have started to do 18:6 from 22:2 , simply because my periods are not starting and I'm sore and swollen , research is telling me I'm not eating enough or my fasting windows are long that's why my body isn't releasing the period hormones is releasing the stress hormones instead !

RainbowWife · 15/09/2024 11:50

Half way through September and I've lost 7lb so far which I'm happy with.

PatienceOfEngels · 15/09/2024 12:01

@Accbabymom1994 when I started my weight loss journey I logged calories to give me a reality check and it did help me stop over eating/underestimating calories.

I don't calorie count anymore but focus on whole foods as much as possible and have worked hard tor educe my UPF which makes me feel so much better. I've tried IF but just can't get on with not having breakfast. Stopping eating after my evening meal and reducing snacking has made a big difference though.

I have a hard-boiled egg for my breakfast every morning - great source of protein - with a slice of rye bread and butter. It's quite dense bread I find if I eat a different type of bread (like the wholemeal the kids have) I need 2 slices to fill me up. We never have margarine or spreadable butter in the house - just normal butter that we keep in a butter dish so it's not too hard. I try to avoid calories in drinks except for a splash of milk in my morning coffee. making a few swaps to the breakfast you've listed above would help - boiling or poaching egg instead of frying, adding wholemeal bread/roll for fibre, skipping the spread and beans, having herbal tea or black tea/coffee).

Stress is an absolute killer for weight loss. I'm a firm believer that you shouldn't be starving hungry. great that you've recognised the effect your fast is having on your body.

Look after yourself 😊

Iamnotaloggrip · 15/09/2024 12:04

The birthday cakes are gone 🥳. So no more need to eat them up. They were tasty though.

I’ve been eating well, apart from the cake. Avocado and egg on sourdough then Brie, prosciutto and asparagus for dinner yesterday.

Today will probably be banana pancakes with berries then a spag bol for dinner. Will try to do a Pilates class later if I get time - I had been hoping to go for a walk but the weather’s a bit rubbish.

LegoTherapy · 15/09/2024 12:16

Ugh, I've got some sort of lurgy and feel rubbish today.Today is definitely a soup day. Potato, cauliflower, carrot and kale I think. I'd better make some bread rolls to go with it too. And cookies. Homemade cookies where one is enough instead of a quarter of a packet of store bought. Apple crumble would be good today. I want to lie on the sofa and watch tv instead. I've had no appetite to actually eat anything and no energy to make anything but we need good food for today and the week ahead. This is where being a single parent sucks.

PatienceOfEngels · 15/09/2024 19:30

@Iamnotaloggrip banana pancakes are my favourite! I like the Hairy Dieter's recipe.

@LegoTherapy hope you're feeling better soon.

Have managed to stick to my menu for today which is a win. And new batteries in the scales have given me a much better weigh-in than I was expecting.

Sunshine, gardening, reading, uno, and saw a sparrowhawk only a few metres for me in our garden (didn't see him dive but must have been heading for a coal tit in the buddleia and he looked right at me empty-handed before flying off). Have hardly got 50% of my steps in but tomorrow is another day (and did do yoga).

Plan for tomorrow:

-yoga (either outside at home or, if raining, do it at school)
-boiled egg and rye toast, coffee
-fruit and veg plate
-leek and potato soup
-greek yoghurt and honey
-spaghetti bolognese
-walk in the evening

LemonDrizzle23 · 15/09/2024 20:29

@PatienceOfEngels Well done for swerving the takeaway! Stay strong!

@TheRealHousewife Enjoy the sea air! It's been a glorious weekend for it weather-wise.

@Accbabymom1994 I feel your pain - I had a nasty shock when I started using nutracheck 😬 that and when I started paying attention to calories on menus....

Sorry you're feeling rubbish @LegoTherapy - as soon as the kids go back to school the germs start.

We've had a lovely weekend. Sports and museum yesterday and a lovely brunch out with friends today, followed by mooching in a terribly expensive but glorious furniture shop. When I win the lottery....
Our kitchen is also back together, so I can get back to proper cooking which is an excellent way to round off the weekend.

LegoTherapy · 16/09/2024 07:42

Thanks for the well wishes. Ds has woken up with a very sore throat this morning and I'm debating whether or not to send him to school. He always ends up missing school for sore throats and coughs at some point in the year. Dd had it the first week back, I had it last week and worse on the weekend and now ds has it 😩 Mine is better this morning thankfully.

I need to get back to porridge in the morning. I've been eating a bread roll with butter and jam instead. I've just not fancied porridge. I didn't want the soup we made yesterday and had no appetite. The back to school germs indeed.

Hello to the newbies and welcome back to the returners! Let's hope this week is a good one for us all.

TheRealHousewife · 16/09/2024 08:27

Good Morning Everyone ❤️

Weather is fabulous; not too hot, sunny and just delightful. ☀️

Food yesterday very sensible and hopefully I will repeat today :) Other half had fish and chips and I avoided them. Chips just turn to glucose and really raise my blood sugar so off the menu.

Some of you might not want to be reminded but Christmas Day is 100 days away 😮 🎄 Just where has the year gone?

I'm back on it this week after a couple of bad weeks due to my daughter having hand foot and mouth 😩 but she's well again now, so need to get back into it! Hope everyone has a good week x

Fellsbells · 16/09/2024 08:47

Only one pound up for me this morning after a relaxed weekend. Maintaining a certain body weight is a life long challenge when so many nice foods are readily available. It’s taken me years to realise that. It shouldn’t be feast or famine, it’s finding a balance and trying to walk that line every week.

I also think over eating is quite like an addiction for me. I need daily reminders and being part of a group like this to keep me on track. Without it I mindlessly over eat and then wonder why I’ve put a stone on.

ChickenChipsandBeans · 16/09/2024 10:00

75.7kg today. So probably 4kg up on pre summer weight. Not happy, but nothing surprising considering the bad choices of summer....

Accbabymom1994 · 16/09/2024 11:52

Last 6 days even though i was carrying on as normal , I was 13.13 from 13.11 which was frustrating me but today I'm 13.11 again thank God. Will see what happens no sign of periods, bloating still there

TealIntermittentFaster · 16/09/2024 13:21

Week 2 weigh in today and I was gutted to have gained 0.3lb. I know its not even half a lb but it still made me go "Really?" at the scales as I have been fasting for 18-19 hours a day.

It's probably just today because I had bread yesterday and we ate dinner quite late. I also know that historically this is what my body does. Even on Slimming World, I didn't lose in the 2nd or 4th week, despite sticking to the plan, so I know my body takes a while to adjust.

I am finding the IF absolutely fine so I will keep going and hopefully see a loss next week. 4.1lb over 2 weeks is nothing to complain about really.

SW: 18st 2.7lb
CW: 17st 11.6

Week 1: -4.4lb
Week 2: +0.3lb

TW: 10st 10lb
