Following on from LOSE IT! Awesome August

Drum roll please! Now it’s the time for an Autumn Re-set!

If you’re a returner or a new starter feel free to jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have a WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost nearly 4 stones. After having been on the wrong side of 12st I am idling around 9st 4lbs after having been hovering around 8st 12lb for several months. TIME FOR ACTION and get back on it! 😬

Are you in?😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Feel free to share your own links, tips & recipes.

I went over my calories again yesterday. Sunday’s are hard! I went over by 320 because a relative gave me some home grown cooking apples so I made an apple sponge. Of course I had to have a slice and of course I had to pour a little bit of cream on it! I’m finding calorie counting fine most days but MFP has me on 1350 now so there isn’t much wriggle room. I don’t feel too bad as I hit my target every other day and everything I ate yesterday was home cooked. Dinner was very healthy salmon, potatoes and veg.

I had thought before that I was fairly clued in about how many calories are in certain foods but I have gotten a few shocks! It’s good to be aware. I always knew that chips were not low fat but the amount of calories in a small portion has shocked me.

PeopleAreToads · 16/09/2024 14:55

A bit late to the party for September, but been reading through the posts and this is the kind of realistic support/accountability that I need! Enjoyed reading through it and getting some tips

I’m actually at my lowest weight ever, and not looking/feeling good for it. Thanks to breastfeeding a baby with a host of allergies who didn’t sleep, my diet and exercise have been chaotic. I’m returning to work next week and getting more sleep, so determined to focus on being healthier and doing better exercise. Spending this week really getting prepared, making lists of meals for meal planning, clearing out the freezer for batch cooking so I can really push for it next week

Week 2 weigh in today and I was gutted to have gained 0.3lb. I know its not even half a lb but it still made me go "Really?" at the scales as I have been fasting for 18-19 hours a day.

It's probably just today because I had bread yesterday and we ate dinner quite late. I also know that historically this is what my body does. Even on Slimming World, I didn't lose in the 2nd or 4th week, despite sticking to the plan, so I know my body takes a while to adjust.

I am finding the IF absolutely fine so I will keep going and hopefully see a loss next week. 4.1lb over 2 weeks is nothing to complain about really.

SW: 18st 2.7lb
CW: 17st 11.6

Week 1: -4.4lb
Week 2: +0.3lb

TW: 10st 10lb

Oh no , with intermittent fasting your weight will fluctuate on the scale but that's not fat it's water weight, so just ignore the fluctuation and trust the process , make sure u don't take days off , adjust the hours if you need to sometimes , and I don't think you have to restrict any foods , I'm due my periods and I was 3 pounds heavier over night , I still haven't started my periods but I'm back down to 13.11 so just trust the process. Hope this helps

Accbabymom1994 · 16/09/2024 16:44

4 pounds in a week is really good!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 16/09/2024 17:12

100 days till Christmas @TheRealHousewife 😱😱😱

that’s the kind of motivation I need! I was 11st on New Year’s Day and have been hovering around 10st 6 for a while. I’d really like to hit the 10st mark by the end of the year. Must focus!

OneDayIWillLearn · 16/09/2024 19:53

A reset of the reset today!! Thursday to Sunday were not great due to going to a funeral on Thursday and then to spend the weekend at our new house (big project, we’ll be moving there in January) - combination of emotions/ out of routine and my OH having done the food shop for the weekend because I was at the funeral meant it wasn’t very Weight Watchers friendly. I like WW because it encourages you to cook from scratch but if you’re not doing that for whatever reason then the points system is very punishing!! I was trying to take the longer view thougH and remember that WW is just a tool and what matters is not being stupid with portions and bad habits, not really the points themselves.

@Fellsbells i feel the same - maintaining a certain weight is an art it has taken me a long time to develop!! I’m actually really proud to have stuck around a particular weight for nearly two months now when there’s been every reason why I would ‘usually’ have thrown in the towel and put on a stone. I had never really thought of maintenance as a skill I needed to develop and always focused on weight loss. I would like to lose another stone or so from here but long term it’s maintenance really that I need to crack!

RainbowWife · 16/09/2024 20:55

I've been shocked at the calories in some things too since I started using Nutracheck. Had a lovely sweet potato roasted for lunch and it was so high.

Fellsbells · 16/09/2024 22:52

Foolishly I did lots of baking today and half a banana bread seems to have disappeared already.

B/L -halloumi and vegetable tagine.
D chicken curry and basmati rice.
and too much banana bread.

9k steps & 45min work out.

LegoTherapy · 17/09/2024 08:24

99 days to go, 99 days to go! 😱

@Fellsbells I've been baking cookies and made an apple crumble yesterday. I prefer to bake my own things and I'll eat one cookie instead of several biscuits out of a packet. No additives or preservatives either, just butter, flour, sugar. Dd has taken some to school today and there's only one left now. Probably a good thing. I've still not made that cake. Which again is probably a good thing.

PatienceOfEngels · 17/09/2024 08:38

100 days @TheRealHousewife 😮

@Fellsbells totally agree about food addiction. I tend to go in cycles (sometimes months) where I do well for ages and then slip into bad habits very quickly.

I still find the idea of IF for more than 12-13 hours really challenging. We usually finish eating before 6pm (Sometimes 6:30pm) and I mostly eat breakfast on a weekday between 6:30am and 7:30am. Today I delayed until 8am and found that challenging enough. Hats off to everyone who's able to do it.

@SkyeBlue28 your home-cooked menu for yesterday sounds fantastic.

Welcome @PeopleAreToads the early years are so stressful on your mind and body. Hope you're feeling healthier soon.

Had a good day food-wise yesterday (except for a few treats that were put out at break time in the staffroom!). Did my yoga at work before I started and a lovely evening walk to a podcast to get my steps in.

Today's plan:
-boiled egg, rye toast/butter, black tea, coffee with milk
-humous, sweet peppers, avocado and homemade bread
-dinner? Not pasta. Maybe a potato and bacon bake with vegetables (peas and sweetcorn).
Trying for no snacks today.
-yoga done outside before breakfast.
-short walk after school run so have done half my steps already.
-meeting a friend tonight for a walk and then a drink

I’m similar to you re IF @PatienceOfEngels but I eat breakfast at normal times and dinner at 6pm, I worked with someone briefly who didn’t or couldn’t eat breakfast until say 11am but she’d had an eating disorder as a child and I personally think (she’s very slim) there was maybe eating disorders there. I know if I cut out all my snacks I’d lose a lot but the win for me today is I have a slight cold but only need to go out tomorrow to post office and supermarket where the temptation is.

Not weighed yet but had plum compote with porridge this morning for breakfast and 2 slices of malt loaf with spread, 2 Nature Valley bars as snacks. Will have 2 apricots as snack.

lunch will be carrot and coriander soup with rye ryvita and cucumber crudités.

I like how this thread keeps me accountable even though I’ve been unwell and still am on medication which causes me to crave food, carbs especially.

My overweight friend who’s doing keto said flax seeds and chia seeds help you lose weight so that’s in my shop this week.

LemonDrizzle23 · 17/09/2024 11:06

I bloody love this time of year. Halloween, bonfire night, DSs birthday and then Christmas. I may have a countdown to Christmas on an app 👀 Can't believe it's only 99 days to go. Enough time to make some real change.

I'm off for a spa break with some friends for the next couple of nights. I have a facial, a massage and two relaxation / stretching sessions booked in. The grounds are supposed to be lovely, so I'm hoping to get some steps in too. And come back feeling nice and rested!

RainbowWife · 17/09/2024 11:20

Enjoy, @LemonDrizzle23 I'd do anything to be at a spa right now! (Although I hate being in swimwear but it's worth it to be in a spa)

Fellsbells · 17/09/2024 11:50

I can IF, quite easily if I’ve got a busy morning, but I find even after a good lunch I over eat in the evening to make up for it.

Good start to the day.
10k steps already.
B/L curry and rice. Greek yogurt with blueberries and flax seed.

Carry61 · 17/09/2024 15:53

@TealIntermittentFaster thats not bad tbh I’ve been on IF for 5 days and lost 2lbs at first I thought is that it ! But I think thats the average so your doing really well!
Im going to keep on going I’m doing 16-8 but my first day was 19 hours !
SW 11.4
TW 10.5

Lem0nTang0 · 17/09/2024 16:23

oh no, I have just eatend an entire pack of Tuc sandwich biscuits, cake, and sweets as well as my lunch I was going so well until today. My OH has just informed me they are cooking dinner tonight and I feel a bit sick.

I am so disappointed in myself it has made me feel very sad

Was hoping for a great WoW tomorrow lets wait and see!

OneDayIWillLearn · 17/09/2024 19:53

does anyone have a ‘go to’ lunch for when they’re out and about?

mine is a tub of fat free cottage cheese, a bag of popcorn and three pieces of fruit. It works because there is zero prep and I know it will fill me up until dinner.

But I am taking lunch to work nearly every day at the moment and five tubs of cottage cheese in a row is getting a bit much even for me as a cottage cheese lover 😂

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 17/09/2024 22:45

Soup for me @OneDayIWillLearn - do you have a microwave at work? I batch cook soups for the freezer so there’s a bit of variety through the week. Get a good mix of veg etc. I usually take something for a bit of protein e.g. portion of chicken, couple falafels or half a pitta with tuna, plus some fruit. On WW recipes from your earlier post, I find the early pinch of nom books really useful (and sustainable) for family friendly meals, maybe worth a look?

@Lem0nTang0 dont be too disheartened, tomorrow is another day.

PatienceOfEngels · 18/09/2024 06:57

Soup for me too @OneDayIWillLearn . I make a batch every few weeks and stick in the freezer. If I don't have leftovers from dinner I will get out some soup for work days. If cooking anything like stew/rice/chilli I will always keep some back for me.

Wow -0.6kg. Very happy with that and finally back to my pre-summer holiday weight at the beginning of July. Finally heading in the right direction. Another kilo will get me back to my pre May holiday weight.

CW 71.8kg
SW 77kg
GW 68kg

Have a cold so didn't end up walking with friend last night and haven't done yoga. May try to fit it in this afternoon.

Plan for today:
-boiled egg, rye toast and butter, coffee
-fruit and veg plate
-leftover lunch (potato and bacon bake with peas and sweetcorn)
-tomato soup with added pulses and bread

Have a lovely relaxing time @LemonDrizzle23

OneDayIWillLearn · 18/09/2024 07:13

Wow: 12 7 5/8s lb - 1/8th of a lb down on last week - I’ll take it 😂. It was a bit of a wayward weekend so just pleased to be back where I was.

@PatienceOfEngels and @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo thanks for the suggestions, we don’t have a microwave at work (I’m often eating in my car) but I have thought about getting a thermos and taking pre-heated soup before. Maybe autumn is a good time for it!!

Fellsbells · 18/09/2024 07:22

WOW

SW- 10st 10
CW- 9st 6
GW- 9st 3

I’m holding some banana bread weight so hopefully will be a bit lower than that bybthe end of the week.

Cheeseagain · 18/09/2024 07:23

+0.5lb for me 😔
not a huge surprise but still disappointing

think I’ll switch back to IF and see if can boost in the right direction.

now we’re officially in soup season - what are your go to tasty, low cal choices?

Iamnotaloggrip · 18/09/2024 07:28

WOW - 10 st 12, so a pound down, which I’m really pleased with!

I love making soup. My favourite at this time of year is spicy butternut squash with roasted red pepper. I’ve got some sweet potatoes in the cupboard that need making into a soup though so I’ll have a look for recipes for that.

Yesterday I ate an egg salad and then cod in parsley sauce with green veg. Today it’s a blue cheese, beetroot and walnut salad with a Thai red curry for dinner.

I can not eat til lunchtime but I haven’t managed to give up milk in my coffee yet so whether that counts as a fast I’m not sure…

Good luck to everyone WOWing!

LegoTherapy · 18/09/2024 07:34

Morning all and congratulations on the losses this week.

54.9kg this morning so staying steady.

PatienceOfEngels · 18/09/2024 08:20

I have one of these Stanley food jars @OneDayIWillLearn which is handy for when out and about (at work I do have a fridge and microwave). Just requires a little more prep to warm up before I head out.
