5 stone to lose - Anyhow that works for you - thread 3

stillplentyofjunkinthetrunk · 08/05/2024 09:10

If you have (or had) more than 5 stone to lose and plan on doing so over many months in a reasonably sustainable way and would like to hang out with a supportive crowd this could well be the thread for you.

I took the title of the thread based on the previous threads some of us were on which turned out to be lovely supportive threads. With a mild edit to clarify no I'm not guaranteeing everyone will lose 5 stone in 6 months.

Super happy for anyone who likes the sound of this to join us. Weigh ins have typically been once a week on Monday. I generally prefer working in kilos because the maths is nice but stones are also perfectly fine.

General medical advice for most people is to aim to lose 1 - 2 pounds a week, or somewhere between 0.5 - 1kg. If you've quite a lot to lose a kilo (2.2lb) a week is perfectly healthy and sensible amount to aim for. That is a 1000 kcal deficit a day. = 26kg (4 stone in 6 months). This is clearly a VERY ask if your total daily energy expenditure is 2600 kcal than if it is 1600 kcal. This advice does rise up to 2-3 pounds a week or 1.5kg a week if you have a high BMI, (so e.g. the person below has an estimated total daily energy expenditure of 2591 so could quite sensibly aim to eat 1340 kcal a day) but do get medical advice if you aren't sure what a good target for you is.

Absolutely no pressure on anyone as to how fast you should be aiming to lose weight. I would like the priority always to be getting healthier bodies and healthier habits.

you can calculate your total daily energy expenditure with a site like this one

https://tdeecalculator.net/result.php?s=metric&g=female&age=49&kg=124&cm=168&act=1.375&f=1

Calories Needed for a 49 year old, 124 kg Female

A 49 year old female who is 124kg needs an estimated 2,591 calories per day

I had a gain of 1.1kg which I'm really pleased with after my holiday! I went to a ParkRun on Saturday and set a new PB even though it was an unfamiliar course but it was so nice running by the sea! Today I've bought new running trainers - I went to a shop that makes you run on a treadmill so they can see what the best shoe for you is. I was nervous because I thought they would think I'm too fat/slow for this service but they were really nice.

Scrabblingaround · 17/06/2024 20:33

Hello...

I went awol for a couple of weeks. I'm finding it all abit hard at the moment, weight loss has slowed right down and I need to figure out what to do next.

I'm on 18st7lb today. About 4 stone down since January, but another eight to go and I need something to get the scales moving again. OMAD doesn't seem to be enough now.

But I'm not giving up! I'm still here.

Captainladder · 17/06/2024 21:18

This thread is so friendly! loving it... so supportive.
I was 0.9 kgs down on weigh in today, though I've been weighing every day, more for understanding what pushes the numbers up / down than anything else. I actually lost 2 kgs Monday to Friday - but the weekend was much more intake and more carbs than you could shake a stick at!
I kept my week as 16:8 as a minimum, and during the week tried to cut calories and keep the carbs low. No snacking!
The weekend was a more relaxed affair, including a dinner at friends house which was lovely and VERY filling. My appetite has definitely reduced, or I'm more aware of how I feel after I eat maybe?
I just don't have the head space to count calories, so I think anyway I can reduce intake is going to work better for me. Last week it was all about speed loss, this week I think my head has got round the fact that it really needs to be a mind shift change to make it stick. So that's interesting and probably quite useful to have figured out!!

I'll fill in the details later but I've a small gain, likely due to stress eating.
but as a nsv I bought new size 18 gym clothes.

I feel bad at the moment but there's definitely a difference between size 18 fat and size 32 fat. So I'm trying to focus on that. Also I was in sports direct a 'normal' shop and just bought their biggest size off the rack and that feels pretty weird. Shopping in normal shops? me? weird.

Well done everyone for your spirit and perseverance. @mondaytosunday 30lbs in 10 weeks is a terrific job. @whatthejuice so close to your 3st milestone. @ohheckwhatnow you're off to a smashing start!

Honestly @stillplentyofjunkinthetrunk, losing 7 dress sizes is INCREDIBLE. Give yourself a big pat on the back because you’ve done so well.

I was a 26/28 at my highest weight and am now 18/20 so similar to you, and it’s sooo much easier to get clothes, isn’t it? I’m still trying to get my head about it though and haven’t been fully able to wean myself off of Yours and Evans. Getting there, though.

I’ll weigh in tomorrow. A few weeks now without a loss worth writing about so really hoping tomorrow gives me a lift. Really struggling with diet and food lately.

positivevibesonlyx · 18/06/2024 09:22

Weigh day for me this morning and I've lost 2lbs this week, which is a stone gone over 6 weeks!

SW - 252lbs
CW - 238lbs

Non scale victory this week, when I picked up some dresses from New Look and Primark - size 20 and 18! I didn't expect them to fit just yet, but they do, and I actually feel comfortable in them!

Tibby2024 · 18/06/2024 09:32

Hey everybody 👋

I finally started this Sunday so 3 days ago after putting it off for so long.

Starting weight 17.10lbs weighed myself today and have lost 3lbs already since Sunday :) only going to weigh once a week from now on though don't want to get to obsessed with the scales.

I'm eating 1400 calories a day no exercise yet apart from walking a little each day im way to unfit to do anything more at the minute will start once lost a few stone so it's easier on my knees and joints, would probably kill over I'm so unfit.

Been reading all your lovely comments on here as I say so inspirational and keeps me motivated for all the people who have been here a while.

Looking forward to being part of the gang over time :)

Anyway start weight 17.10lb
Cw 17.7lbs
Gw 11 stone maybe 10.7 will see once nearer.

Good luck everyone not that you need it you all are doing so well.

X

mondaytosunday · 18/06/2024 13:07

Well it furs if I want to get bookings for this summer @CommeUneVacheEspagnole! I'm not returning til mid July and if I started then it would take another week or more to go 'live' and I'd have lost three or more possible weeks!
@Tibby2024 walking is really underrated. So many hit the gym hung go and are faced with their current unfitness and struggle then give up. Walk a bit more each day, a bit faster when you can. That's all you need so right now! It's the deficit of calories that will make the weight shift. I added an extra block then two when doing my evening dog walk, an extra loop of the park during the day.

GameOfJones · 18/06/2024 16:37

I also love walking, I put on a podcast to listen to and if it's something I'm really enjoying I don't even notice how far I've walked to be honest as I'm so engrossed. I listen to some of the Zoe podcasts on health that are an hour and now have a couple of different 1 hour walking routes I do either on my lunch breaks when working from home or at the weekend.

I'm not counting calories either and just focusing on eating real food/cutting down UPFs. I was told at the start of this year that I have high cholesterol and that gave me a kick up the backside too. I've made some dietary changes (more fibre, pulses, fruit and nuts and less saturated fat, butter, red meat, UPFs etc) and am planning on getting my cholesterol re checked next year to see if it's made any difference.

BusinessSecretsOfThePharaoh · 18/06/2024 18:43

Ok, so the scales is my friend again this week. 1.3kgs gone bringing my total loss to just under 44kg/6st 12lbs.

I want to lose a total of 63kgs so 19 to go.

Zebracat · 19/06/2024 12:36

Hello can I join you? Weighed on Monday to find I was 104.4 kilos. So depressing. I had a hip replacement last July and lost 12 kilos to get to 97 beforehand. I thought I would crack on afterwards and lose more, but recovery has been slow. I can’t bear being this fat. So I’ve committed to walking every day, at least 3 50 minute swims a week and 1800 calories a day. First target is under 100 kgs. Ultimately, I’d be very happy at 75 kgs. I’m about 5ft 7.
The losses on here are very impressive.

stillplentyofjunkinthetrunk · 19/06/2024 17:01

hey there @Zebracat course you can, more the merrier.

You can do it I'm sure.

Captainladder · 19/06/2024 20:30

@Zebracat hello! Fellow hippie here too (both!). I also put on a fair bit of weight after I'd had them done. Recovery just takes so much longer than I think we realise. It took me a good full year to feel "normal ish" and I'm now in y2 and only just beginning to move in a less guarded and more natural way. We got this 😍

Zebracat · 20/06/2024 11:51

@stillplentyofjunkinthetrunk thanks for the welcome.
@Captainladder gThats so helpful to know.I feel a bit of a failure, tbh. Have just had shockwave therapy for the hip bursitis and it has helped, but I still need a stick, and frequent sit downs. But it makes it even more pressing not to carry50% extra weight.
First 3 days have gone well. Walked and swum every day and stuck to my calorie limit. Just got to keep it up through the weekend and on holiday next week. I’m going to meal plan to help. And the holiday will be active, running around with children, walking and swimming.

whatthejuice · 21/06/2024 05:55

Just a quick check in before my long weekend away. 5 days since my last weigh-in and I've lost 1lb. I'm thrilled because that's brought up my 3 stone loss.
I'm fully prepared for that to go back up though after 4 days away 🤣🤣

My numbers:
SW 18 stone 10 lbs
CW 15 stone 10 lbs
GW 12 stone

See you on the other side! Xx

Tibby2024 · 21/06/2024 07:57

How is it possible to put on a lb in a day when I've eaten so good and not over eaten? Gone from 17.5 1 day to today 17.6 when yesterday I was so good :( I know it's only a lb but when I'm literally eating less than I ever have at 1400 and then gaining it's so dishearting. Please any tips do I need to up water as that's really the only thing I'm not drinking enough of. X

DuckWithOneWing · 21/06/2024 09:19

@Tibby2024 it's the weather. It's suddenly gone really warm. So either you're drinking more (which you should be!) and it's just fluid that weighs more, or you're not drinking more and your body doesn't like it.
It could also be hormones, needing a poo, eating later at night, scales being on a different part of the floor.....

Gabriella83 · 22/06/2024 08:43

Weigh in day today
I gained 2.25lb!
SW 18st 9.5lb
CW 16st 5.25lb
Some of it is water retention and my period is due but crap food has started to creep back in! When I was eating less process foods the cravings stopped but as I've started eating them again the mindless eating has returned and I feel tired and sluggish. On a positive I've been hovering around the same weight give or take a few lb for months! In the past a few bad weeks and it'd be all over and I could quite easily have put on what I'd lost and some extra. Hope everyone is having a good week.

Captainladder · 22/06/2024 12:10

@Tibby2024 If I don't drink enough water / herbal tea I find I don't drop weight. I'm kind of assuming that all the wee's are removing fat?!? I don't know if that's true though 🤣.

ohheckwhatnow · 22/06/2024 22:47

Evening all, 2nd weigh in this morning

S/W 17st 9lb
C/W 17st 2lb

Pleased with half stone loss in 2 weeks. Not the best week sticking with cal counting, but when you get 2 boxes of chocs and enough gin to last a life time for your birthday you have to give in, it'd be rude not too 😉

Back on track again now, fingers crossed for a good week.

@Captainladder I always imagine I'm peeing out the fat! If I drink enough I wee loads and have a good loss that week. Must drink more this week!

Have a good week everyone.

Tibby2024 · 23/06/2024 08:51

Finally week 1 weigh in I've lost 5lbs! Good but tbh I was hoping for more as I'm so heavy but I did have a few treats like daughters birthday cake and a few glasses of full fat coke (my addiction)

For next week I'm going to up water as haven't been doing well on that front past few days.

More walking as I've been a bit lazy with the heat I prefer lazing in it than sweating walking lol.

It just feels like when your on a health kick diet or whatever that days go by soooo slowwww and I'm longing for food or thinking about food even when I'm not hungry, I'm always thinking about my next meal even while eating my first. Food addiction is bloody hard to kick.

Anyway I've not had heartburn once since started which I'm happy about :) had it everyday nearly before which rennie hardly touched.

Might get some her let tea to like someone mentioned just having something in your gob better than nowt sometimes.

Oh and watching the kids eat all the time is hard especially when they waste most there dinner and I'm there drooling over there left nuggets or whatever as I clear it up.

Here's to another week.

Sw 17.10
Cw 17.5

LemonTurdCart · 23/06/2024 22:30

Hope everyone had a good weekend.
I braved a swimming costume for the first time since last summer which was a big deal.

Dinner was not as planned due to unexpected guests but I managed restraint. Bloody hungry now though from not filling up on veg.
15st 6 today

Zebracat · 24/06/2024 07:35

Good Morning. My first Monday weigh since I discovered the extent of my issue, and I have lost almost 2 kilos. Cant believe it. Was braced for disappointment. I have kept to around 1800 calories except for 1 day when I was way over. I have also forced myself to be more active, 4 big swims, 6 long walks, lots of gardening. I have snacked a bit, but less than usual.
we are going away today, so I hope this has given me the boost I need to stick to the rules.
SW. 104.4 kgs
CW. 102.7 kgs
just realised that’s not really almost 2 kilos, but it’s well over 1!

Bumblebeebum23 · 24/06/2024 08:05

Lost the 2lbs I put on last week and back down to 11st 11.5lbs. Hoping I can continue to move down this week and creep closer to 11st 9lb and my 4st loss.

I find it difficult to keep up with everyone's individual posts, but do read them. Well done for all the amazing losses and welcome to all the newcomers xx

mondaytosunday · 24/06/2024 09:24

Frustration (on two levels - wrote my post out then the dog brought a dead bird in so had to deal with that and lost my post)!
I was one kilo down this week then two days later it went back up - despite being consistently at goal or under for calories and keeping up the walking. I leave tomorrow! I'm post menopause so that's not it.

mondaytosunday · 25/06/2024 12:16

Well, I'm on the plane and had to ask for an extension belt. Fine - just wish it wasn't bright red! I'm a size 22 I thought it would be ok!
I can't actually tighten it as it's for when you have a baby on your lap too so there's a loop in the middle you can't tightened it beyond.
In terms of actually fitting in the seat it's wide enough - my legs are jammed up hard against the seat in front (I'm 5'10" all in my legs).
Thank god it's just a two hour and a bit flight.
