5 stone to lose - Anyhow that works for you - thread 3

stillplentyofjunkinthetrunk · 08/05/2024 09:10

If you have (or had) more than 5 stone to lose and plan on doing so over many months in a reasonably sustainable way and would like to hang out with a supportive crowd this could well be the thread for you.

I took the title of the thread based on the previous threads some of us were on which turned out to be lovely supportive threads. With a mild edit to clarify no I'm not guaranteeing everyone will lose 5 stone in 6 months.

Super happy for anyone who likes the sound of this to join us. Weigh ins have typically been once a week on Monday. I generally prefer working in kilos because the maths is nice but stones are also perfectly fine.

General medical advice for most people is to aim to lose 1 - 2 pounds a week, or somewhere between 0.5 - 1kg. If you've quite a lot to lose a kilo (2.2lb) a week is perfectly healthy and sensible amount to aim for. That is a 1000 kcal deficit a day. = 26kg (4 stone in 6 months). This is clearly a VERY ask if your total daily energy expenditure is 2600 kcal than if it is 1600 kcal. This advice does rise up to 2-3 pounds a week or 1.5kg a week if you have a high BMI, (so e.g. the person below has an estimated total daily energy expenditure of 2591 so could quite sensibly aim to eat 1340 kcal a day) but do get medical advice if you aren't sure what a good target for you is.

Absolutely no pressure on anyone as to how fast you should be aiming to lose weight. I would like the priority always to be getting healthier bodies and healthier habits.

you can calculate your total daily energy expenditure with a site like this one

https://tdeecalculator.net/result.php?s=metric&g=female&age=49&kg=124&cm=168&act=1.375&f=1
Calories Needed for a 49 year old, 124 kg Female

Calories Needed for a 49 year old, 124 kg Female

A 49 year old female who is 124kg needs an estimated 2,591 calories per day

Morning everyone,

Weighed in a day late this week as I was unexpectedly away yesterday and didn't want to step on a different scales!
I managed a 2lb loss this week which I'm very pleased about - and I'm now into the 15 stone bracket (just!!). I've realised I'm 1lb away from a 40lb loss so that would be lovely to see next week. I'm also 3lbs away from 3 stone which is a fab mini goal to aim for.
I have been feeling much more tempted by treat type food the last week or so - so I think I'm going to promise myself a takeaway next weekend so I can try and contain my cravings!

My numbers:

SW: 18 stone 10 lbs
CW: 15 stone 13 lbs
GW: 12 stone

Have a good week one and all!

Captainladder · 10/06/2024 08:06

Good morning! Please may I join in? I read the thread yesterday and it has hugely inspired me.
Im 5ft 6 and need to get rid of 35 kgs at least (that's 5 stone something! I work in kgs though.) this morning I stepped on the scales to a very perfectly round 100kgs and that seemed like a sign to get cracking with a weight loss program! Healthy BMI would be 65 ish kgs at the top end...... but I'm aiming for 10% body weight loss as first goal.

100
10% 90
Overweight bmi 82
healthy 65

I want to start the fast 800 but I need to get my head around meals for me and family so I'm doing 16;8 this week and will progress to fast 800 from Monday (or sooner if I get everything sorted food wise!)

It would be nice to be 29 kgs less by January..... (roughly that many weeks left I think!!!)

my main worry is having lots of lose (loose?) skin...... that's actually stopped me from trying to diet. I don't think that's very clever in the long term 🤣. I've decided to focus on dropping the weight and then if I need to, find a way to deal with the floppy bits! I'll be adding weight / resistance training in at some point.
46... definitely in perimenopause!

better get myself to work.....

suspiciousmums · 10/06/2024 08:34

Morning all! I hope it’s ok to join, had a read through the thread and you are all so supportive! I’ve been doing slimming world (controversial I know) and been having steady loses.

22/04- SW 18 stone
10/06- CW 16st 8lbs

Started my period yesterday so wondering (hoping/praying) that when I finish that might drop another couple pounds off too! One pound away from stone and a half award, aiming to get to 11 - 11 and a half stone but my first mini goal is under 100kg, I’m currently just over 105kg. Feeling a difference in myself already and feeling really positive about the changes I am making!

mondaytosunday · 10/06/2024 08:48

Not weighing in today as away, but going from Saturdays down .8kg (1.75lbs). But great, as two weeks and a day til holiday!
6kg more was my holiday goal, but having lost 13.3kg (just over two stone) in 9 weeks I guess that's not bad - should have started earlier!

stillplentyofjunkinthetrunk · 10/06/2024 09:24

Morning everyone! Time for my Monday weigh in

SW 150kg
CW 108.2 kg
0.9 kg lost

mini goals
✅109kg half of excess weight lost
✅108.8kg BMI<40
🎯108.0kg under 17 stone 2 1/2stone lost this year
🎯106.3kg If I get this mini goal in June it will be 1.5lb average lost per week during the first 6 months of 2024
🎯105.0kg 30% body weight lost and halfway to my target weight

Cracking work on your mini-goals, @stillplentyofjunkinthetrunk!! Good on you.

I’m on a bit of a stall. Last week I had gained and put it down to water retention and cycle. This week I’ve lost that again plus about 300g so I’m only down 300g in two weeks.

Now, I have to admit that my diet hasn’t been amazing. Biscuits are creeping back into the house and I’ve started to snack too much in the evening so need to knock that on the head.

Had a fairly heavy couple of days in terms of drink and food as we were away for a family occasion so lots of meals and cocktails. Have another event this week and also a meal out with friends another night so just need to get myself back in the great headspace I was in up until about three weeks ago.

Need to up the exercise too. Loose skin is becoming very noticeable 🥹

Anyway, loss to date (since August ‘23) is just over 42kg/6st 8lbs so need to focus on how well I’ve done and get myself back on track.

GameOfJones · 10/06/2024 12:49

Hello all,

This weekend wasn't the best in terms of food and drink, although I made a couple of swaps (e.g homemade pizza using flatbreads instead of a takeaway). I'm determined to get back to it properly today.

B - yoghurt, nuts and a banana
L - hummus on sourdough toast and some raspberries
D - fishcake, new potatoes and tenderstem broccoli
E - an hour's walk (taking a long route round before the school run then picking up DDs after school on my way home.)

DuckWithOneWing · 10/06/2024 13:29

I had a great week last week. 2.3kg down! This week I have an exam (my last one for my degree) and then I'm off on holiday to celebrate.

Welcome @Captainladder and @suspiciousmums!

Well done everyone on the losses this week.

CommeUneVacheEspagnole · 11/06/2024 21:15

Tried on my holiday clothes tonight. Very depressing affair. I'm like a dumpling. Hopefully, along with the better weight app, I will get the inspiration required but I'm so fed up of not getting past this 94/5 kg point.

Also I'm sick so quite moody. Just hope I'm better and no one else catches it before we go.

BemusedBrenda · 11/06/2024 22:09

Hi all, I hope you won't mind me joining - you all seem to be doing so well and so supportive 😊

I lost 10lbs at the start of the year and then totally abandoned my diet, but I have managed to keep it off without much effort and have been doing an exercise class at least 3 times a week. I've just got my mojo back and would really, really like to be a healthier weight when 2025 rolls around. I love exercise but find it so hard when I'm carrying all this extra weight, I know I will do more and enjoy it more if I can lose some.

CW 15st10 and GW should be 10st7 but I'm going to aim for 12 at least for now.

Like some of you I've been cutting down on upf, I have just dug out a book called "how to lose weight well" from a few years ago by Dr Xand Tulleken, the brother of Chris Tulleken who wrote "ultra processed people". This time it's really clicked with me (though it didn't when I first read it). I'd be interested to know how others are getting on eating this way.

Captainladder · 12/06/2024 16:38

Thanks for the welcome!
posting to keep me honest.....
I have done 16:8 for the last few days (12-8 eating window) and NO snacking between lunch and dinner which was a huge weak spot for me. I would come home after work and snack with kids (or without them!!) and sometimes eat so much I was still full for dinner - but then I'd still eat dinner too 🫣.
I am feeling a lot better about myself too, and it's definitely helped my digestive system not grazing all the time.
Instead of snacking I'm just sitting down with a cup of tea for a little time and reading (or checking Mumsnet....)
I am aiming to add in a small positive habit every so often to help. So the start was 16:8 annd no snacking and next (adding this tonight!!) is going to be only have one helping.
I want to increase my water but I drink a lot of herbal teas and I've been weeing soooooo often (tricky in a school!!) that I am focusing on doing that at home until my bladder catches uo
with my hydration levels!

Pancakepipsqueak · 12/06/2024 22:19

Place marking as had a bit of a medical wake up call today and I need the motivation! Hope that's ok!

Current weight is 15 stone 9 (99.5kg)
Highest weight is about 16 stone
In February i was 14 stone. So annoyed with myself!

Goal is around 11/12 stone.

Need to dust off the scales and get back to it.

LemonTurdCart · 13/06/2024 20:02

welcome @Pancakepipsqueak

I am 6lb down from the dreaded plateau of 2 weeks ago, only 1lb off next mini goal of 15st7

This weekend I have 2 meals out to navigate! I am grateful for calorie info on menus, that is new since last weight loss attempt. Today I had a vegetable tartlet, new pots and salad for a working lunch and it was bloody lovely and 700cal, less than the sandwich option.

Gabriella83 · 15/06/2024 10:32

Welcome to all the new people who have joined us!
Weigh in day for me. I lost 1.25 lb. Not a good week food wise so I'm happy with that.
SW 18st 9.5lb
CW 16st 3lb
Hope everyone has had a good week!

suspiciousmums · 15/06/2024 12:13

Posting for accountability!
I had a long day at work yesterday, didn’t get home until 1.5 hours after I was meant to finish and was out on visits all day (community nurse), had to sort the kids when I got in and had forgotten to take anything out of the freezer for dinner so we ended up getting fish and chips for dinner (plus buttered roll) and I devoured the lot! I was starving! But I’m back on it today and will weigh myself on Monday as planned, hopefully my chippy hasn’t done too much damage!!

ohheckwhatnow · 15/06/2024 20:37

First weigh in today:
S/W 17st 9lb
C/W 17st 4lb

Very happy with my 1st week, it's been tough at times, but the result was worth it 😁 I keep checking on this thread and using it for motivation. There's some amazing success stories on here.

We booked a holiday yesterday, we go in 5 weeks so really need to keep at it. I tried my holiday clothes on today which was very depressing, I'm 2st heavier than last time we went away and not a chance I'll get back into many any of them 🙁 hopefully though a few good weeks will boost my confidence enough not to be self conscious on holiday 🤞

Hope everyone is having a good weekend despite the bloody rain!

whatthejuice · 16/06/2024 06:02

Morning everyone,

Hope you've all had a good week? Well done to everyone who has joined and to everyone else for keeping going!

I've dropped a smidge under 2lbs this week and very happy with that, especially as I had a night out drinking on Friday (my first since starting this journey - I was in a bad way yesterday 🤣)

I am due to go away with friends for a long weekend next weekend so I think I'll probably weigh on Friday just to keep myself accountable and then the following Friday too. If I come away from the weekend maintaining, I'll take that as a win!

My numbers this week:

SW 18 stone 10 lbs
CW 15 stone 11 lbs
GW 12 stone

I'm only 1lb away from a 3 stone loss now so would love to see that before I go away 🙏🏼

Have a great week x

Bumblebeebum23 · 17/06/2024 08:02

Awful (but yummy!) weekend, and lesson learnt because I am up 2lb and back to 11st 13.5lb 😭

However, I have stuck to 10,000 steps a day all week, and prior to the weekend, I had mostly been sensible. Back on it today to try and move back down.

Well done to everybody else 👏

mondaytosunday · 17/06/2024 09:03

Disappointed weigh in: .8kg (1.76lbs) down. Admit I've eaten closer to 1500cals/day a couple times (rather than closer to 1300), but I've so much to lose it should still show a 1kg+ drop. So total loss is 14kg (30.8lbs) in 10 weeks. One week tomorrow till holiday! I'm starting to stress out about what I have to do between now and then (not all trip related, I have a small property I was trying to sell and it hasn't despite undercutting competitors by thousands, so will Airbnb it the rest of this year which requires quite a bit of work to get sorted before I go).

I think you need to take a step back and just realise how much you have lost. It's absolutely amazing.

Also, does the Airbnb need to be sorted before you leave? I wouldn't stress too much if it's not an absolute necessity. The last few days are enough of a pain.

We are on holiday now so no weigh in. So many cute outfits I couldn't wear as I'm too big but it's given me a lot of inspiration. All this is in my control. When we get back I'm going to switch it up a bit.

stillplentyofjunkinthetrunk · 17/06/2024 12:35

I'll fill in the details later but I've a small gain, likely due to stress eating.
but as a nsv I bought new size 18 gym clothes.

I feel bad at the moment but there's definitely a difference between size 18 fat and size 32 fat. So I'm trying to focus on that. Also I was in sports direct a 'normal' shop and just bought their biggest size off the rack and that feels pretty weird. Shopping in normal shops? me? weird.

Well done everyone for your spirit and perseverance. @mondaytosunday 30lbs in 10 weeks is a terrific job. @whatthejuice so close to your 3st milestone. @ohheckwhatnow you're off to a smashing start!

Hello everyone. May I join you all please?
I have 7 stone to lose. I am 5ft short and have put on an additional 2 stone in 2 years despite already being very over weight.
I have been refered by my GP to the Second Nature 12 week programme and have started today. It is a low carb, higher fat diet with no calories counting, so I will just follow their recipes at the moment until I get the hang of it.

SW 17/06/24 - 15 stone
GW - 8 stone

Looking forward to supporting you all as we follow our new paths xx
