5 stone to lose - Anyhow that works for you - thread 3

stillplentyofjunkinthetrunk · 08/05/2024 09:10

If you have (or had) more than 5 stone to lose and plan on doing so over many months in a reasonably sustainable way and would like to hang out with a supportive crowd this could well be the thread for you.

I took the title of the thread based on the previous threads some of us were on which turned out to be lovely supportive threads. With a mild edit to clarify no I'm not guaranteeing everyone will lose 5 stone in 6 months.

Super happy for anyone who likes the sound of this to join us. Weigh ins have typically been once a week on Monday. I generally prefer working in kilos because the maths is nice but stones are also perfectly fine.

General medical advice for most people is to aim to lose 1 - 2 pounds a week, or somewhere between 0.5 - 1kg. If you've quite a lot to lose a kilo (2.2lb) a week is perfectly healthy and sensible amount to aim for. That is a 1000 kcal deficit a day. = 26kg (4 stone in 6 months). This is clearly a VERY ask if your total daily energy expenditure is 2600 kcal than if it is 1600 kcal. This advice does rise up to 2-3 pounds a week or 1.5kg a week if you have a high BMI, (so e.g. the person below has an estimated total daily energy expenditure of 2591 so could quite sensibly aim to eat 1340 kcal a day) but do get medical advice if you aren't sure what a good target for you is.

Absolutely no pressure on anyone as to how fast you should be aiming to lose weight. I would like the priority always to be getting healthier bodies and healthier habits.

you can calculate your total daily energy expenditure with a site like this one

A 49 year old female who is 124kg needs an estimated 2,591 calories per day

Hi all, would like to join.

I’m currently 190 pounds, was 215 pounds this time last year. Only just started weighing myself. My pre baby weight was 140 pounds. Started off dieting very strong. But have stalled the last couple of weeks. Feeling down that even though I am depriving myself I am still huge. Can be overwhelming when I think of how long I will have to diet and exercise for to lose the weight. My current goal is to get down to 175 which will take me out of the obese category.

As I have naturally big boobs and a butt I’m excited to see my figure reappearing. Was worried my waist had changed shape post baby but I can see it’s still there.

Being happy with my body at Christmas and enjoying all the social activities at that time of the year is my goal.

Vopik · 26/06/2024 13:22

What are your current fav go to meals?

Ive personally been loving peri peri chicken and salad. Using raita (low fat yoghurt) as a dressing.

Pickled veg is my snack of choice currently. Pickled chillies (kebab shop style) satiate my savoury cravings wonderfully.

I’ve also been making very small quantities of protein chocolate ice cream using my ninja creami. Made with chocolate flavoured protein shakes.

Cuppaand2biscuits · 26/06/2024 13:38

I'm checking in 7 weeks after I started changing my habits.
SW 17st 7lbs
CW 16st 2lbs

Mostly I've cut right back on sugar as before ate lots of sugary cereals, biscuits, chocolate and cake. Intermittent fasting, 16:8 which is working really well. End goal of 10/12 stone.

GameOfJones · 26/06/2024 18:13

@Cuppaand2biscuits that is amazing in such a short space of time!

@Vopik I'm actually really enjoying the microwavable sachets of cauliflower rice with a curry. I don't love it on its own but with a spicy sauce on it the cauliflower rice is totally fine for adding bulk and some nutrition without the calories.

Today:

B - yoghurt, strawberries, nuts
L - hummus and coriander wrap, an apple and some blackberries
D - daal (with cauliflower rice) and some lime pickle
S - a pint of shandy in a beer garden (but I avoided the crisps or nuts!)

Please may I ask which brand you use for the cauli rice? Wouldn’t mind something to trick my brain - sick of protein + salad/veg.

Hi! I'm hoping to lose 33 kg (roughly 75lbs or 5 stone 5lb) by my 33rd birthday in March, to get me from obese to bang in the middle of my healthy BMI range. I'm on Day 4, following Michael Mosley's Fast 800 diet. I eat in an 8 hour window and am currently limited to 800 calories, it has been really hard but today it feels a little easier so fingers crossed that trajectory continues. I know you can do this for up to 12 weeks but I am not putting a target on it, I will do at least 2 before considering when to switch to 5:2.

Captainladder · 27/06/2024 20:17

ooof. Fallen off the wagon as I've been unwell with Covid. Hopefully back to work tomorrow and a bit more normal eating - been a bit of what's the least effort to chuck in a pan.
I have a gym induction on Saturday, so that will be a good thing to focus on. I do really want to drop the kilos, but equally important to me is to be strong - especially as I've had hip replacements and I've read that there is a danger of them dislocating if you drop a lot of weight and don't strengthen ... and I'm really really keen to avoid that!

I use the Fullgreen brand from Tesco. I don't love it on its own, but with a strong sauce (a curry or something similar) I find it works well for barely any calories.

whatthejuice · 28/06/2024 05:17

Hope everyone has had a good week. I've been back from my short holiday a couple of days and have lost 1lb since last Friday! Pretty happy with this as I really thought I'd put on weight - we did do a lot of walking and cycling but there was a lot of wine, cheese and bread eaten!!
Since I've been home, I've eaten within my calorie range but I do find I'm eating a few more "treat" foods than I did at the start of my overhaul. Next food shop I'm going back to basics and buying very few snacks foods so I don't have the temptation.

SW: 18 stone 10lbs
CW: 15 stone 9lbs
GW: 12 stone

My next mini goal is to reach 15 stone 5lbs (4lb loss from current weight), which will mean I've reached 50% of my weight loss target.

GameOfJones · 28/06/2024 07:42

Morning all, I'm very pleased today as I weighed and I've lost 2lbs. It takes me very close to my first stone off.

SW: 15st 1lb
CW: 14st 2lbs
Next goal to get into the 13s.

BemusedBrenda · 28/06/2024 07:55

I'm interested to know how everyone sets their calorie goals. I remember being told at a Bupa health consultation once not to go under my BMR (about 1770) but when I use an online calculator it suggests 1433 for weight loss of 2lbs per week. I don't think I've ever eaten under 1600 calories a day in my life! (Probably part of my problem 😂)

I use myfitnesspal. You input your height and weight, and then input your goal ie a 2lb loss per week and they set what your calorie intake should be.

Vopik · 28/06/2024 13:48

I have PCOS so sadly to lose weight I have to be quite extreme. I once did a meal plan programme and gained weight on 1650 calories and plenty of walking in London.

I fast two days a week and aim for 1300. Weight loss is still slow but it’s in the right direction.

I wouldn't use MyFitnessPal. I think it's a bit basic and just gives you 1200 which isn't suitable long term. Use the TDEE and see if it works. Reduce there on in if it doesn't.

Gabriella83 · 29/06/2024 08:53

Weigh in day for me. I lost 1.5lb
SW 18st 9.5lb
CW 16st 3.75lb
Glad the weather is a bit cooler the last couple of days. The scales have been up and down like a yo-yo all week!

Vopik · 29/06/2024 10:34

SW: 215 pounds
CW: 185 pounds

Have definitely lost my initial excitement/buzz.

Ah interesting, mine is set at 1590 which feels sensible 🤷🏻‍♀️

Tibby2024 · 30/06/2024 10:54

Well week 2 weigh in I've stayed the same but I was naughty for 2 days so that's obviously why, having 3 children at home drove me to the chocolate :/

Will do better next week. I'm happy I've not gained though so my 5lbs I lost is still off.

Have ordered some huel ready made shakes to have 1 or 2 a day with a healthy meal in the evening, I think having them ready and not having to think of what to make etc will help me.

X

DuckWithOneWing · 30/06/2024 11:22

@Tibby2024 my partner really likes Huel. He says it helps him feel fuller so he snacks less. He tends to get the powder to make up but says the ready to drink ones are nicer. I thought the taste was ok but hated the texture.

Tibby2024 · 30/06/2024 15:15

@DuckWithOneWing
That's why I bought the ready made ones didn't like texture but the ready made bottles are much smoother and easier for on the go and no prep easier but can be costly.

Im having the banana and chocolate ones so far chocolate tastes alright just abit like chocolate cardboard lol! but they are drinkable and fill you up plenty protein to.. Best when they are freezing cold.

ohheckwhatnow · 30/06/2024 20:46

2nd weigh in for me yesterday.
A little disappointed I lost 0lbs. But I have, had the worst period of my life ever this week so actually it's probably not a bad result. Very hectic weekend though so not been on plan at all, but back on it tomorrow.
I'll keep weighing and logging it on here, sort of like a diary, hoping it keeps me on track.

Anyway, waffle over! I hope everyone has had good week, keep going. I'm finding some of the posts on here quite inspiring, just shows what can be possible. Have a fab week all x
