5 stone to lose - Anyhow that works for you - thread 3

stillplentyofjunkinthetrunk · 08/05/2024 09:10

If you have (or had) more than 5 stone to lose and plan on doing so over many months in a reasonably sustainable way and would like to hang out with a supportive crowd this could well be the thread for you.

I took the title of the thread based on the previous threads some of us were on which turned out to be lovely supportive threads. With a mild edit to clarify no I'm not guaranteeing everyone will lose 5 stone in 6 months.

Super happy for anyone who likes the sound of this to join us. Weigh ins have typically been once a week on Monday. I generally prefer working in kilos because the maths is nice but stones are also perfectly fine.

General medical advice for most people is to aim to lose 1 - 2 pounds a week, or somewhere between 0.5 - 1kg. If you've quite a lot to lose a kilo (2.2lb) a week is perfectly healthy and sensible amount to aim for. That is a 1000 kcal deficit a day. = 26kg (4 stone in 6 months). This is clearly a VERY ask if your total daily energy expenditure is 2600 kcal than if it is 1600 kcal. This advice does rise up to 2-3 pounds a week or 1.5kg a week if you have a high BMI, (so e.g. the person below has an estimated total daily energy expenditure of 2591 so could quite sensibly aim to eat 1340 kcal a day) but do get medical advice if you aren't sure what a good target for you is.

Absolutely no pressure on anyone as to how fast you should be aiming to lose weight. I would like the priority always to be getting healthier bodies and healthier habits.

you can calculate your total daily energy expenditure with a site like this one

Calories Needed for a 49 year old, 124 kg Female

A 49 year old female who is 124kg needs an estimated 2,591 calories per day

@HippyChickMama " I ran for 20 minutes non stop on Saturday (C25K), swam 700m on Sunday morning and then did a 9 mile hike on Sunday afternoon. I'm running three times a week, every week, and actually enjoying it!"

That is all so impressive to me, I think you're doing a fantastic job! It's all about getting fitter and healthier.

Thanks @stillplentyofjunkinthetrunk 💕 I'm just keeping plodding on! Obviously, feeling confident in my clothes will be nice but my motivation is being fit and healthy. I've seen so many people, in my professional capacity, that struggle with their mobility in later life due to being overweight but also of a normal weight but with poor nutrition and lack of activity. My job these days is sedentary and I'm peri menopausal so I'm trying to look after my joints and bones too. The mental health benefits of exercise have been great too, I have so much more energy and just generally feel more motivated. I've never been a runner, though I was sporty in other ways when I was young, but honestly, Couch to 5k has worked wonders and I'd encourage anyone that thinks they might want to give it a go

GameOfJones · 05/06/2024 10:30

2lbs lost this week so I'm really pleased with that.

SW: 15st 1lb
CW: 14st 5lbs

I've walked 30k steps in two days which will have helped, I don't normally do that many but I really need to start counteracting my sedentary office job when I can. I drive to the office (rural so no public transport options) and then sit at my desk for 8 hours and drive home. I'm just beginning to realise how bad it is for me so am going to try and build in some exercise on my lunch breaks as I'm normally exhausted when I get home.

DuckWithOneWing · 05/06/2024 12:50

I agree with @HippyChickMama ! I've just finished couch to 5k (although I did go off plan a bit at the end) and it's been great. I can now run 5k! I did a Parkrun on Saturday and ran it all.

LemonTurdCart · 05/06/2024 15:15

Hi, nice to hear everyone’s successes. I have been stuck on 16 stone for almost 2 weeks but it feels like months.
I am walking more, drinking more water and getting through birthdays and meals out under calorie goal, so it will have to shift eventually.

HippyChickMama · 06/06/2024 08:00

14st 9 today! After being stuck at 14st 11 - 14st 12 for weeks. Another run later, I hate running in the afternoon but I can't fit it in this morning. Stay positive @LemonTurdCart, it will come off eventually if you keep at it

DuckWithOneWing · 06/06/2024 10:29

I'm finding that my weight is filtering a pattern of bad week followed by good week. Last week was a really bad week for no reason and this week is looking like it's going to be amazing!

Today I'm wearing a pair of trousers I found in the back of my wardrobe because they used to be too small, and a size 16 top. I can't believe it fits!

stillplentyofjunkinthetrunk · 06/06/2024 16:33

nice nsv @DuckWithOneWing thanks for sharing

Hi all, is there room for a big little one?

Enjoyed reading about your progress and looking forward to sharing my own!

stillplentyofjunkinthetrunk · 07/06/2024 14:50

hi @HildaPostlethwaite absolutely welcome aboard

I'm ending the week 3lb down! Just needed to be a tiny bit stricter with my calorie intake. I'm about to go for my run, then will be lugging fence panels all day as we're replacing our garden fence. Swim tomorrow, followed by a 4 mile hike. Have a great weekend everyone
SW: 17st 12
CW: 14st 8
Next goal: 14st 7
TW: 10st 7 ish

Gabriella83 · 08/06/2024 07:47

Weigh in day for me. I managed to lose most of last weeks gain. I lost 3lb this week.
SW 18st 9.5lb
CW 16st 4.25
Seems like I've been stuck in the 16s forever. Not good for morale.

ohheckwhatnow · 08/06/2024 08:43

Good morning, I've just come across this thread looking for some inspiration.

You all sound like you've had some amazing results.

I hope you don't mind me joining in.

Off to weigh myself shortly, have a cry and then make a plan!

GameOfJones · 08/06/2024 09:02

@Gabriella83 I have been stuck in the 14s for forever. Literally for years gaining and losing the same half stone/stone. I think posting on here helps keep me focused and accountable.

@ohheckwhatnow welcome to the group!

Yesterday was a pretty good day considering it was Friday and normally any form of healthy eating goes out the window for me at the weekend:

B - yoghurt, blueberries, nuts and a latte
L - falafel salad plus some vegetarian sushi
D - home made peri peri chicken, slimming world chips and home made coleslaw
S - a pear, some marshmallows and a rum and diet coke

LemonTurdCart · 08/06/2024 12:54

@HippyChickMama well done on your loss and your active weekend. Poorly 2yo here so I am watching Duggee instead of the planned walking and gardening.
The scales have shifted at last for me, 15st 11 so a stone lost in 4 weeks.

ohheckwhatnow · 08/06/2024 18:12

So I weighed in

SW 17st 9lb😭

I am going to go back to calorie counting. I find My Fitness Pal is a good app to use. I'll check in next week. 🤞

Hope you're all having a weekend.

whatthejuice · 08/06/2024 19:32

Well done everyone for another week ♥️ and welcome to anyone joining recently!

@gabriella83 aw you've had an amazing week losing 3lbs. You're within touching distance of the 15s. Will be cheering you on when you get there.

@ohheckwhatnow that first step on the scales is the hardest bit I think. Onwards and upwards (or rather downwards!) hope your first week goes really well

I'm weighing in tomorrow morning. Am not sure I've lost much this week after a bigger loss last week, but you never know!

Gabriella83 · 08/06/2024 20:53

I know what you mean @GameOfJones I've lost and gained so much weight in my life. I've probably lost my body weight twice over!
Thank you @whatthejuice I need to get my mojo back. With the gains I've had when we've been away I've been in the 16s for 3 months but lost a stone and a half or there abouts. I just need a good couple of weeks. Hope everyone has a good week!

DuckWithOneWing · 08/06/2024 20:59

@ohheckwhatnow take a deep breath and raise that you'll never see that number on the scales again! Next week will be less, and the week after less again and then before you know it you'll be at your target weight!

@Gabriella83 the 16s are the worst. I got stuck there for ages too! But you're nearly out the other side so it hopefully won't be too much longer.

stillplentyofjunkinthetrunk · 08/06/2024 21:07

@Gabriella83 Congratulations on your loss 3lbs is great! I'm REALLY hoping to get into the 16s next week. fingers crossed for all of us.

I log my weight on an app called betterweight, which splits the weighloss into smaller milestones. Met milestones 8 today, and it reminded me how far I have come. It has been slow and steady (and frustrating at times!), but my perseverance has paid off. So keep going, everyone. We've got this 💪

Oooh that app looks great. Congratulations on your massive achievement 🥳

CommeUneVacheEspagnole · 09/06/2024 13:28

Another great week for you guys! Well done everyone!

96.15 29/05
95.10 6/6
94.8 7/6
94.9 9/6

This is my progression in the last week ish. Same kg I always lose but determined not to put any of it back on. That has been helped by spending a lot of yesterday in the bathroom after 7 cocktails, 4 pints of peroni and half a small bottle of vodka Friday night. Somehow age is affecting my drinking and recovery ability but not giving me power to grow up. Urgh. My throat is killing me today so that's also helping me not to eat.

CommeUneVacheEspagnole · 09/06/2024 15:10

Although... chaos theory. We had a bbq on Friday night and left two burgers in the fridge. DH ate one this morning and gave the other to the dog. The dog hasn't eaten it and normally guards his food. He's left this for us... maybe that's what made me sick.

Bumblebeebum23 · 10/06/2024 07:53

Well done, everyone, and thank you.

Official Monday weigh-in today and scales still on 11st 12lbs this morning, which I'm pleased with. That's 2.5lbs off this week.

Next mini goal 11st 9lbs, which will be 4 stone lost ☺️
