5 stone to lose - Anyhow that works for you - thread 3

stillplentyofjunkinthetrunk · 08/05/2024 09:10

If you have (or had) more than 5 stone to lose and plan on doing so over many months in a reasonably sustainable way and would like to hang out with a supportive crowd this could well be the thread for you.

I took the title of the thread based on the previous threads some of us were on which turned out to be lovely supportive threads. With a mild edit to clarify no I'm not guaranteeing everyone will lose 5 stone in 6 months.

Super happy for anyone who likes the sound of this to join us. Weigh ins have typically been once a week on Monday. I generally prefer working in kilos because the maths is nice but stones are also perfectly fine.

General medical advice for most people is to aim to lose 1 - 2 pounds a week, or somewhere between 0.5 - 1kg. If you've quite a lot to lose a kilo (2.2lb) a week is perfectly healthy and sensible amount to aim for. That is a 1000 kcal deficit a day. = 26kg (4 stone in 6 months). This is clearly a VERY ask if your total daily energy expenditure is 2600 kcal than if it is 1600 kcal. This advice does rise up to 2-3 pounds a week or 1.5kg a week if you have a high BMI, (so e.g. the person below has an estimated total daily energy expenditure of 2591 so could quite sensibly aim to eat 1340 kcal a day) but do get medical advice if you aren't sure what a good target for you is.

Absolutely no pressure on anyone as to how fast you should be aiming to lose weight. I would like the priority always to be getting healthier bodies and healthier habits.

you can calculate your total daily energy expenditure with a site like this one

https://tdeecalculator.net/result.php?s=metric&g=female&age=49&kg=124&cm=168&act=1.375&f=1
Calories Needed for a 49 year old, 124 kg Female

Calories Needed for a 49 year old, 124 kg Female

A 49 year old female who is 124kg needs an estimated 2,591 calories per day

Izzydogmum welcome to the thread (I'm new too). Brilliant motivation, to be healthy for your daughter and yourself :) I think IF has worked for a lit of people on here (it did for me and I think is doing again now I'm getting back in the habit!) so I'm sure you'll have success!

Hello mondaytosunday - hopefully the 1 kg from the holiday is partly water weight from the different foods on holiday and will go quickly! Your mindset is fantastic!

I weigh most days with a view to taking an average (a tip from a Gin Stevens podcast with the logic that if you have a single weigh in day per week it can derail you psychologically if it's a "blip" of gain due to a bit of salt/ sugar induced or hormonal bloating or simply to still having yesterday's dinner in your stomach / intestine!) and am seeing 87.5 kg consistently for the last few days, where I was seeing an average of 88.2 kg last week, so I'm cautiously optimistic.

I'm rereading the books that got me on the right path when I lost a lot of weight and am rereading Life In the Fasting Lane atm. I don't follow it strictly (Jason Fung's older stuff is tends in the direction of low carb, and I ignore the more extreme recommendations to cut out vegetables that grow below ground for example and just follow the first steps of cutting out/ right back on processed sugar and processed grains - flour). Rereading has reminded me that last time I did a 24-30 hour fast whenever I could make it work (like a lot of us I prioritise eating a meal with my family in the evening, but I have to work late a couple of days per week and these are convenient days for a longer fast because I'm busy and not making a point of skipping family dinner!). I fasted from after an early lunch on Wednesday until dinner on Thursday last week and will do so again today! This isn't too challenging as I've been fasting on and off for four years now, and I think doing it once per week is a key to kicking the insulin resistance which has almost certainly crept up since I slipped back into bad processed sugar habits over the last year!

Looking forward to seeing 86 point something kg soon (84kg will be back out of obsese :/

Onwards and downwards :)

@Whale80ne Hi back! Hope your week is going well and enjoying the sun!
doing ok here, it’s only day 3 but have kept to my plan so far.
I just want to fast forward a month and see how I have done! Ha ha

whatthejuice · 19/07/2024 06:37

Welcome to those joining this week! I hope everyone has had a good one and been enjoying the ☀️ for once.
I've had a great week and lost 3.5lbs. I'm not quite sure where this has come from as it's my biggest loss week on week for a long time but I'll take it! It's taken me past a 50lb weight loss which seems like such a lot! I feel like I've trained myself not to look at the big numbers as I have such a big number to climb towards but this is a big one to celebrate 🥳
I've got a few social things this week like BBQs, pizza parties etc...so I'm going to keep my eyes focused on 2 weeks today when I'm on a big family holiday to Spain for 2 weeks. I am gunning to be in the 14s by then 🙏🏼

My numbers this week:

SW 18 stone 10lbs
CW 15 stone 1lb
GW 12 stone

Have a great week everyone, keep going xx

Whale80ne · 20/07/2024 08:27

Well doneWhatthejuice !

I've also seen a good loss this week

SW: 88kg (05.07 but joined the thread a few days later)
CW: 86.0kg

This week I successfully stayed away from processed sugar and did a couple of 36 hour fasts (only one day and two nights without eating and easy as I worked until 21:30 both fast days and ate unrestricted healthy food on the day between). That's probably why my second week's loss is a lot better than my first.

84kg would be back out of obese and I'd love to achieve that before I go on holiday mid August.

Have a good week everyone

Zebracat · 20/07/2024 21:55

Hi there. I think I had a good loss this week, but I’ve been inconsistent about weighing. Last few days I’ve been between a kilo and 1.5 kilos down.
I’ve got tooth whitening forms from my dentist, which I wear after dinner until bed, so no snacking. Hope it’s having an unintended consequence.

Cuppaand2biscuits · 23/07/2024 08:21

12 weeks today since I first weighed in and decided to make a difference to my diet and I've lost 2 stones exactly!
SW 17st 7
CW 15st 7
TW 12st

Sharing as some inspiration to others, I just wanted to feel less heavy for being out and about with the kids over the holidays as I was dreading the walk to the beach etc due to feeling so heavy and unfit.
IF has worked really well for me, and I haven't felt I've missed out on anything, still had a few McDonald's with the kids and joined in with cakes at work.

Izzydogmum · 23/07/2024 08:50

Well done those who have had losses this week! Very inspiring!
Keep chipping away.

My first week has gone well, decided to not do IF at weekend to see how I got on with that, but kept under my cals everyday and went swimming and will keep that up once a week.

SW: 311lbs
CW: 304lbs
Total loss: 7lbs

Here's to another great week!

Muse21 · 23/07/2024 09:57

Hi all,
I would love to join, I am 4 months PP with my 2nd and desperately need to lose weight and get healthy. I am really feeling the extra weight and it really is starting to panic me that I may not be able to lose the weight ever.

My starting weight is 15.4 st/lbs.
Goal weight is 9st, so 6st to lose. I'm going to concentrate on the first 2st and go from there! Have a good day all ☀

BusinessSecretsOfThePharaoh · 23/07/2024 10:37

July hasn’t been a good month for me weight-wise and I’ve been stuck in that plateau/frustration/biscuit cycle.

Think I’m back on track now though and finally seeing the scales shift with another kg gone for a total of 46kg.

17kg to go.

LemonTurdCart · 23/07/2024 15:46

I am still here, plugging away.
Just looked back and I am 5lb down from my last post a month ago.
A bit disappointed really, I’ve had a week away and a night out in that time, but thought I hadn’t gone overboard.
Focus at the moment is eating as unprocessed as possible.

GU24Mum · 23/07/2024 15:53

Another lurker who'd like to join you if that's ok. I'm a classic yo-yo dieter though there has been no loss for a while. I feel as though I'm a walking example of how your health is affected. My eldest child graduates in late June next year so I'm determined to be in shape for that and hopefully it's a sensible time goal too. For me it's:

SW: 215 lbs
GE: 135 lbs (but 140-145 would do!)

Bumblebeebum23 · 24/07/2024 11:51

Well done on everyone's continued progress 👏

I've been completely off the rails!! 🙄🤪 and when I weighed in on Monday, I was back up to 11st 12lb (+4lbs). However, I have been back on it since Monday and am now on school holidays, so I am hoping to lose as much as I can before I fly to Aus on Thursday next week.

Nowhere near my original target of being 10 stone for my sister's wedding but a lot better than the 15st 9lbs I started at and generally feeling more confident and less self-conscious which is the main thing!

whatthejuice · 26/07/2024 06:44

Welcome to anyone joining this week and to those who are still going!
Not a good, but then not a terrible week for me. 20 weeks in now to this weight loss journey, and I have maintained this week. I had a big loss last week, so I'm sure that has played into this a bit, but I also need to remember that sometimes the scales don't show the effort. In previous weight loss attempts, I've let stalling for a couple of weeks knock me totally off course.
I've now got 7 days till I'm off to Spain. I'd still love to be in the 14s by then, but if I'm not, that's ok. If you'd told me in mid-March, I'd be 3 stone 9lbs down by late July, I'd never have believed you. And even though I've still got a long way to go, I feel so much better in myself already.

Numbers this week:

SW: 18 stone 10lbs
CW: 15 stone 1lb
GW: 12 stone

Bumblebeebum23 · 29/07/2024 08:29

Slightly better. 11st 10.5lbs, so 1.5lbs down this week (despite a weekend away/BBQ). 4 days until Aus 😁

Izzydogmum · 30/07/2024 11:12

@Bumblebeebum23 well done! Keep chipping away!

Week 2 weigh in for me:

SW: 311lbs
CW: 301lbs
Total lost 10lbs

Slipped a little on the IF, mainly due to baby not going to sleep on time so dinner got delayed.
Will keep plugging away!

Hello all

Around 90-95 lbs to lose

So glad to have this thread

Welcome @thisisasurvivor!!

I’m the poster who pointed you towards this thread as I’ve found it so helpful.

I know you asked me on the other thread about things that helped me but just replying here.

I’ve been on Ozempic for 11 months and am c. 105lbs down. It’s been tough. I haven’t been able to increase the Ozempic dosage to what I need due to supply issues, and it’s expensive, but it really has helped me.

I tend to stick to 1,300kcals a day, try to avoid too many carbs, but snack far too much. I constantly moan on here about hating exercise.

My approach to weightloss is quite mathematical. Everyone is different but I like spreadsheets and numbers. I started by calculating my BMR (so the amount of calories your body burns daily by just keeping you alive). To lose 1lb, you typically need to create a deficit of c. 3,500kcals. For me, 1,300kcals/day gives me a loss of about 1-2lbs weekly. I use My Fitness Pal to track calories.

I find the Ozempic definitely curbs my cravings. I would previously have eaten a lot of doughy white bread (with butter!), but don’t have an appetite for it anymore. Also have no tolerance for fizzy drinks or cakes/pastries. Still too fond of biscuits.

Food-wise, I tend to have very low calorie breakfasts and lunches, and then have what I want for dinner but portion control it. I don’t eat desserts, but often have a cup of tea and two biscuits in the evening. I love wine but seem to have lost the taste for it.

A typical day looks like-
Breakfast: big bowl of watermelon with 0% fat Greek yogurt, or a measured portion of a high fiber cereal with skimmed milk. I try to keep it under 200kcals.
Lunch: seasoned chicken breast with kimchi and salad, or maybe an egg white omelette with mushrooms and peppers and a protein tortilla wrap with a little cheese, or prawn gyoza with kimchi. I aim for under 300kcals.
Dinner: whatever the family is having, but I try to keep it to under 600-700kcals. So maybe a stir fry, or some chicken nuggets and airfryer chips with salad, or homemade soup and brown bread, or a low calorie ready meal. Probably eat out once a week but I focus on small portions- I’ll often order pizza and eat two slices with salad and then have some more the next day. The Ozempic dulls my appetite so genuinely find two slices more than fills me.
Snacks: need to work on this but typically custard creams or an ice-lolly. Try not to put myself over 1,300kcals for the day from snacking, and also try to stay under 200kcals for snacks alone. So if I’ve eaten 1,000kcals for the day, I won’t snack 300kcals- I’ll stop at 200 max.

I have about 35lbs left to lose- hoping to be at my goal by the end of this year.

Hi Everyone! I haven't posted in several weeks but have been keeping up with your progress. You're all doing so well! I wish I could say the same! In the last few months I've ate crap and gained....no surprises there. So I've given myself a good talking to and it's time to stop being an idiot and get back to it. Fortunately I've not gained too much....5.5lb. It could've been worse. Saturday is usually weigh day for me but as of today I'm 16st 8.5lb. I will weigh Saturday and I might see some result as its the first week.
SW 18st 9.5lb
CW 16st 8.5lb
Keep up the fantastic work everyone....you truly are inspirational 👏

thisisasurvivor · 31/07/2024 13:52

@BusinessSecretsOfThePharaoh super helpful

Thank you so much

Well done!!!!!!!

whatthejuice · 02/08/2024 07:25

Morning everyone,
A good week for me, after a stall last week; another 2lbs off.
By a pound (lol), I got into the 14s by the time of my family holiday. I'm so happy to be where I'm at and keep thinking of the different feeling of me going away at this weight versus the weight I was in mid-March. Obviously I've got a long way to go still, but I'm so happy 😊
I will shortly be off on holiday for 2 weeks. I'm buzzing at the thought of fun family time, but I do know that the likelihood is a gain over the next 2 weeks. To mitigate a bigger gain, I'm going to try and be really intentional.
Once I get back, the plan is to weigh myself a day or two after I land once everything is recalibrated and see where I'm at. The impetus to keep going is still so strong for me, though, which i have to say is not normal for me. I'm now 3lbs off a 4 stone loss 😲 so once I'm home, even taking account for a gain, that will be my next goal.
I'll next post in a few weeks. See you all soon and well done everyone xx

SW: 18 stone 10lbs
CW: 14 stone 13lbs
GW: 12 stone

We have a very similar sw and GW

This week was a good start

Gym x 5

Keto plan

No sugar

Feel so much better in my self
Hope it lasts

Gabriella83 · 03/08/2024 08:15

You've done amazingly well@whatthejuice your starting weight and goal weight are similar to mine but unlike me you're smashing it! I'm back on track. I've ditched the junk and we're back to eating low UPF and even though it's been just a few days I feel better already. I think I'd got in a vicious circle of eating crap and feeling crap so eating more crap to feel better which didn't work. I've lost 2lb since Wednesday.

Hi, can I join please?
I have been out of the diet game for a long time (long term work stress) and it has hit my weight hard. I used to be a bit of a yo-yo dieter but I sort of forgot to yo back back for quite a long time.

I'm trying Noom and I am also going to give shakes a go - old school but why not.

Current - 15 st 4 lb
Goal - 10st 7 lb

Whale80ne · 05/08/2024 04:33

Well doneWhatthejuice! So many milestones packed in there!

Well done for getting back to it with a positive attitude Gabrielle ! I had a bigger slide in the wrong direction than you but think what's important is to catch it before you pile all the weight back on! (Or even if someone does pile it all back on, to get back to it and get the mindset back - who was it that said "its alright to let yourself go, as long as you can get yourself back" ?😜

Welcomeachipandachair

I'm doing IF and for the past couple of weeks have been aiming for 1-2 36 hour fasts with a normal "sensible" day after the 36s and 18-20 hour fasts and 4-6 hour eating windows on the other 3-4 days. I'm finding it mostly easy except when fitting in with other people at work and home sabotages me! (OK I know nobody firces me to eat in my fasting window but sometimes other people's expectations and other people doing nice food related things for me mean I'd be a bit of an arse not to 🤣). This last week has gone well although one colleague keeps on saying "I assume you won't be having any cake/ ice-cream/ whatever as you're always on a diet at work"... There's a lot of cake and a stock of donated very delicious organic ice-cream at work atm for specific reasons!

Highest weight ever in July 2020: 119kg
Lowest weight since then in winter 2021: 70kg
Weight when I joined the thread in early July 2024: 88kg
Current weight this morning: 85kg

MsNeis · 05/08/2024 14:07

Hi everyone!
I've been meaning to post, but didn't have the courage. Tbh, I feel intimidated by weight loss threads: I always feel the odd one out or like I don't know what I'm doing!
But you are all very inspiring and I wanted to join. I probably won't be updating very much, because I think in my current situation any progress will be slooow 😅
Anyway, here's me: mid 30s, two DC (Dc2 is 1month old), current weight 105 kg with a height of 168 cm (so BMI of 37ish). Ideally, I "should" be at 75kg max. But my goal now is dropping to the 90's (it's psychological, I think), and then steady but slowly settle for a reasonable BMI for me (out of the obesity category is more than fine for me, at the moment, so around 80 kg or 12 stone).
I would like to take advantage of the fact that I'm breastfeeding to start a weight loss process.
I've tried different nutritional and dietary approaches, but my main motives are emotional (I'm in therapy for that), and anything restrictive or "hard" has the opposite effect on me. I love to walk (I'm very austenian in that sense 😄 ), but I struggle to find the motivation to prioritize time for me. I'm an emotional eater (very sweet tooth too) and sometimes can binge. My body is amazing and always responds well to the good stuff (healthy food, exercise): my mind is the problem. I self-sabotage constantly.

Sorry for the lengthy post: I just wanted to (over?)share 😊
So let me see if I do this right:SW: 107 kg or 16 stone 11lb (before the last pregnancy)CW: 105 kg or 16 stone 7lb(1 month post partum)GW: ~80 kg or 12 stone (out of obese territory, anything beyond that seems impossible right now but I will need to adress it in the future!)

I think I need to break down my goals, otherwise it's overwhelming. Also, what I really want to achieve is not a specific weight, but a change of pattern if that makes sense: I don't want to depend on food for treating my emotional issues, and I really want to be a healthy and active mother!
