2 Stone Slimmer For Summer - a thread for those with lots to lose

RedDoughnut · 01/04/2024 11:54

Here we go! This is our third 2 stones off thread.

I did really well in 2 stones off for Xmas, less good in the Easter thread.

I found having an end date in sight meant I could focus on the date rather than than the monumental amount of weight I needed to lose

End date for this thread is 15th July which will roughly tie in with school holidays. 15 weeks from today.

Welcome to anyone new who wants to join and to anyone who has been involved in either of the two previous threads.
Im not starting until tomorrow

I'd also like to ask that everyone adds one element of self care that they don't usually have time for. I'm going to start using a specific cream for my eyes. Maybe by summer that will also show a difference?

Bit late to join hope that's ok.

I allowed myself an indulgent few days post Easter and this morning have girded my loins and weighed myself. Exactly 14stone.

I want to get slim for a big event in August. About 18weeks away. Figure 2lb a week average will get me down over 2 stone. Would be fabulous to be back in the 11stone category. I'm tall so that would probably be enough.

Just finished a massive graph with each day from now until the event on the top row and weight down the left hand side. It really doesn't look like a lot of days laid out like that!!
Included a tick box for 'exercise' in each day so squats, push ups, crunches. I'm super unfit so it's just a start. Hoping to start jogging again when I'm a bit lighter.

MooQuackNeigh · 08/04/2024 11:11

No choice but to get it off, my rings are getting uncomfortable tight.

Id like to get the first stone off quick as possible before it gets too warm! Every year it's the same. The weather changes suddenly and I'm still fat and uncomfortable.

afrikat · 08/04/2024 11:13

Urgh I haven't lost a single lb in 2 weeks despite following Fast 800 to the letter, other than one day where I had some gin. I'm moving onto 5:2 now and hoping eating more calories some days will help

LonelyAndLostToo · 08/04/2024 11:23

Oo just found this, mind if i climb on board?

That's shocking, it's reminded me to measure everywhere though, will do when i get home as I too am prone to platuex for apparently no reason at all.

People wonder why it's so hard and spout about calories in Vs out but it clearly isn't that simple is it. I'm overweight yet my body tells me to eat, something is awry in my biology here.

Weirdly I had my tonsils out a year ago and physically couldn't eat for 10 days because of the pain/bleeding. I lost a stone and felt so well, clear headed, hardly hungry, didn't think about food much. Why is eating less harder then eating nothing!!

Rennypie03 · 08/04/2024 11:41

@MooQuackNeigh have you tried checking if you are insulin resistant or tried low carb? The "food noise" is a big part of why we struggle. If we can curb that and appetite I think we would be winning!

ItRainsItPours · 08/04/2024 11:52

@socks1107 if you have access to a microwave how about a baked potato? I find them very filling with cheese and salad/coleslaw.

This u is s a great idea. I'm prob going to do that! Ticking off days is my kind of organisation!

Yeah I have a super complex system but I love a graph. It works as long as I'm consistent with tracking.

I'm pretty sure I am insulin resistant. People always tell me 'just eat porridge to fill you up all day' but any carbs just make me hungry faster.

I already low carb usually but it's frustrating because it worked years ago but it's a struggle now even being more strict then ever. When I get into the zone after 10-14 days it's great but it's hard being excluded from 'normal' eating with temptation everywhere.

Doing a long water fast is really tempting but

a, I need to be able to deal with food/eating at some point.
b, not sure if it's setting a good example for the kids,
c, DH would think I was mad and hurting myself.
D, I'm not sure if I can do it without the motivation of being in horrible throat pain.

MooQuackNeigh · 08/04/2024 12:31

Is there a test you can do to see if you are insulin resistant? Without a Dr?

It really isn't as simple as calories in, calories out. I weigh and monitor everything that goes in my mouth, I was between 8-900 calories per day for 13 days. High protein, good fats, low carb. 10000 steps a day, weights and cardio 3 times a week. No loss. Wtf

What does it mean to be insulin resistant? And how would you know?

I had blood tests at the GP while being investigated for PCOS

Basically it means that my body doesn't respond properly to insulin so I can't break down sugars as well which means sugar is more likely to turn to fat.

There are symptoms to look for:

  • high waist to height ratio
. Dark velvety patches of skin on underarms and groin
  • skin tags

The only way i can lose weight is to reduce carbs so insulin isn't as vital in preventing fat gain. If I stick to a mainly protein and fat diet then it doesn't matter as much that my body can't use insulin properly.

Being insulin resistant also puts you at higher risk of type 2 diabetes and Gestation diabetes (which I did get).

Some GPs wil prescribe metformjn or weight loss drugs like Ozempic. Mine just looks at me like I'm useless and tells me to watch my diet.

Thank you I don't unfortunately. My job belongs in no one department and I do meetings in the hospital canteen! I've thought of a few other things so as long as I've got two or three lunches I can rotate I'll manage I think.
But I have ordered couscous in my shop and some nice crackers

FlabMonsterIsDietingAgain · 08/04/2024 20:37

@socks1107 what about a food flask?

DD has one for school sometimes when she doesn't fancy the school dinner option.

Heat it up in the morning by filling with boiling water and sealing up for 5-10 minutes. Heat your food up as hot as you can and put it in the flask, should keep hot for a good 5-6 hours. I usually make DDs about 7am and she eats between 12 and 1pm.

Then you could do porridge, soup, casserole, pasta bake.... whatever you like and can make.

We got a Thermos branded one from TK Maxx very cheap.

socks1107 · 08/04/2024 21:01

Flask sounds idea is brilliant thank you! That would work really well for me

Philandbill · 08/04/2024 21:47

A good day today; healthy food choices, no snacking and I did a fifteen minute yoga with Adrienne session from YouTube. I'm rubbish at the moment but will get better.

Glad it appeals.

We've put sausages or fish fingers in there before then packed her up with a wrap or bread and butter so she can put together a hot sausage/fish finger sandwich. It would work really well with shredded chicken or pork in a spicy bbq sauce or rub, wrap and some salad bits.

afrikat · 08/04/2024 22:09

I'm on 5:2 now and today was a 800 day, managed to stick to it. Also did a 45 minute fast walk and 15 minute (very) slow run.
Tomorrow I'm eating out and having a few drinks so will try and make good choices!

Two stone off by summer would be a good start! I need to cut down on bread, and cut out unhealthy snacks firstly I think.
