Moving on from Wegovy

I've lost 4 and a half stone on wegovy. I've gone from an obese BMI to BMI of 21. I'm so happy. It took me a year. So now I'm going to taper down and stop. Has anyone else stopped yet? I'm going to keep up the calorie counting and exercise of course to keep the weight off.

I'm sorry others have experienced hair loss too. I asked on a thread a few months ago and I was the only one, it's oddly reassuring that it's not just me.

I know what you mean.
I think it's because we weren't eating a lot of food and for me personally not enough protein and nutrients and your body doesn't prioritize hair growth so more of your hair goes into the cycle of shedding but it happens 3 months after the lack of nutrients and it takes 3-6 months to stop shedding and only if you up protein intake and nutrients. Mine began in Feb so hopefully Sep mine should begin to stop shedding so much especially as I've began taking nutrients for my hair specifically. It was really upsetting when it began but I had very very thick hair to start with so it wasn't too bad though I miss my thick hair but I hope it goes back and my hair hasn't stopped growing which is good!

Crap, I was going to stop but I've just ordered another pen. Feel a bit like a failure but we have a few family trips coming up in the summer and I want to enjoy them without worrying about potentially ravenous hunger returning. Also have a few big work events in September/October. But yes, doesn't feel great to become reliant on the jab.

Don't beat yourself up about it. I stopped for two weeks and the hunger really does come back so I've taken 0.25mg again as I'm trying to just keep the dose low while upping my exercise and trying to continue to eat healthier! It's not easy but sometimes you need help along the way.

DollyPlastic · 15/07/2024 08:20

I've got the starter pen of MJ coming.

I'm too worried I'm going to pile the weight back on and feel relieved I've got help on the way Blush

AhBiscuits · 15/07/2024 17:36

Good luck @DollyPlastic
Maintenance is tomorrow's problem. Focus on eating well, nourishing your body and getting to a healthy weight. You'll be in a different place once the weight is gone.

That said, I had another weekend away involving too much food and booze. I had a battered sausage, chips and curry sauce and I enjoyed it SO much 😋 Biggest portion of food I've eaten in one go since November.
Today has taken a lot of willpower to stay on track. I've done it though and will lose any weekend gain quickly I'm sure. I have a few weeks before my holiday, so hopefully enough time to lose an extra lb or 2. I started Caroline Girvan today and am hoping some strength training is going to gradually allow me to eat a little more.

@Stel83 Thank you. Did you feel the effect coming back on 0.25 W? Had you been on the max dose before? May I ask what made you go for W and not Munjaro, I'm thinking the latter may be more cost effective if we're setting ourselves up for maintenance doses long term? Would be interested to hear your thinking, and others.

Candyfloss99 · 16/07/2024 15:47

Just back from holiday. Put on 2 pounds which I know I'll lose again by the weekend. Thinking I might also be able to give up the calorie counting soon 🎊

Well done @Candyfloss99 2lbs is nothing.

Being on 0.25mg has helped me curve my hunger a bit but it's definitely not as potent a dose as when I was on 1.7 or 2.4mg but it helps a bit with the food noise but I'm still definitely hungrier. Yes I was on 2.4mg a while and then suddenly I suffered really really bad GI issues and had to come back down to 0.25mg which was annoying. Munjaro wasn't available when I started on Wegovy or I would of used it instead. Because my BMI was lower than 30 when it was available my provider wouldn't let me switch which was ridiculous even though my BMI was still high. But I did want to switch especially as it's supposed to have less side effects.

Ah thanks @DollyPlastic

Weigh in day today and stable at my goal weight. I'm delighted as I had really quite a heavy weekend away. It's comforting to know that a few days of excess is so easily undone. Generally I'm just incredibly relieved that 6 weeks off the drug and I'm coping fine and even still losing a bit.

liz4change · 19/07/2024 19:02

There you go @AhBiscuits. I'm in the same space - keeping an eye on my weight, keeping steps up. Yes I am gaining and losing the same 3-4lbs (been fluctuating between 67kg and 69kg since the end of Feb. Been WFH all week which has tended to mean too much grazing in the kitchen and not enough steps but I know a few days gets me back on track.

It might sound odd but I also try and ensure I wear something really fitted (ie tailored and non-stretchy) at least once a week.

DollyPlastic · 19/07/2024 20:20

I did my first injection of MJ on Wednesday night and woke up to no food noise or hunger on Thursday. It's a relief tbh.

I need to plan better for when I come off it again with healthy meals and calorie counting rather than just white knuckling it.

Tindrum · 20/07/2024 07:06

Feeling much the same@liz4change and @AhBiscuits. I’d read so much about rebound weight after finishing wegovy I was worried it would happen to me. I’m currently on my last day of a two week holiday and only put a pound on. Previously it would have been around half a stone so feeling pretty positive for the future.

Candyfloss99 · 31/07/2024 11:58

Hope everyone's summer is going well. I've lost 5 pounds!! I'm now below my goal weight! I think it's because I've been doing so much walking.

Well done @Candyfloss99 That's fantastic!

My weight is stable at goal currently but I'm about to enter a very busy social spell. I'm away every weekend for the next 5 weeks and am on holiday for a week shortly. Hopefully I'll be able to stay on track.

VanellopeVonSchweetz99 · 31/07/2024 14:33

Nice to see summer updates from people.
Here's a gentle reminder to myself and others about fluctuation:
This morning I weigh a full kilogram (2.2lbs) less than I did yesterday morning. The only thing I did differently was to consciously drink more water yesterday afternoon/evening.

Happy I checked. The scales are no longer my enemy.

Menora · 06/08/2024 07:07

I’ve been away, hope everyone is well.

I didn’t gain much on holiday but had a fluctuation which has come down now. I’m kind of just the same. It was hard though as a lot of nice food around

sw: 15st 6lbs
cw: 10st 8lbs
gw 10st 6lbs

2lbs to go to final goal then maintenance

Sounds great and well done from staying away from all the amazing food

My SW 16st 1lb
CW 10st 9.9lbs (lost 5st 5lbs)
GW 10st 7lbs or even little lower if I can but lowest is 10st and then maintain.

So at least 3 lbs to go but I've maintained the same weight for a few months now because I cannot take high doses of Wegovy currently because it messes so badly with my GI tract so maintaining is actually a huge achievement for me. It's hard though as Im way more hungry now and it takes will power to not eat. That's why on Wegovy it was so much easier with the food noise gone! Really hope I can build up a bit more tolerance so that I can just stay on a lower dose for a while longer.

Menora · 06/08/2024 16:33

Thanks @Stel83 - I didn’t really stay away from all of it, I was pretty well balanced though. It was lovely to try new foods and I really enjoyed it. However I got the post holiday blues on my return and fell back into a bit of a rut with eating poorly. That’s all sorted now. I am back in the game.

today I changed my calorie goal to losing 0.5lbs a week, this means I have a whole month now as a goal to lose 2lbs and is more realistic, relaxed and causing me less stress. I was struggling to fit my lifestyle into 1400/1500 a day recently. I am looking forward to maintenance although I am not sure what it will look like… 1800 will feel like a luxury! Will it work for me to maintain on it?

My BMR is 1300 so I need to add more muscle if I want to eat more than that a day but I roughly eat 1300 a day to maintain currently.
I would like to eat more but I currently can't unfortunately

Sounds like everyone is doing great. I know it’s early doors but hopefully the stats of putting weight back on after stopping Wegovy really only apply to people who slip back into old ways. Which let’s face it applies to all diets. Personally I’ve bought too many nice new clothes to risk that!

Completely agree. Have to embrace the new lifestyle!!! Love my new clothes!!!!

AhBiscuits · 08/08/2024 21:42

I've spent a fortune on new clothes too, I'd be fuming if I regained 😂

I've been off the drugs for 2 months now. It's definitely too early to get cocky, but I have found maintenance easy so far. It's been a pleasant surprise.

VanellopeVonSchweetz99 · 09/08/2024 00:55

Really heartening to hear people feeling and doing well, it's giving me hope. I might be on my last W pen now but then again I've said that before.
Just heading back from hols and thinking what a difference a year makes, I was feeling pretty good in myself last summer, 5 months into the jabs, but this year I'm truly like a different person, mentally more than anything. So much more fun for my kids to be around, I'd like to think so anyway.
Yes yes yes on the clothes, I have my dream wardrobe now.
