Moving on from Wegovy

I've lost 4 and a half stone on wegovy. I've gone from an obese BMI to BMI of 21. I'm so happy. It took me a year. So now I'm going to taper down and stop. Has anyone else stopped yet? I'm going to keep up the calorie counting and exercise of course to keep the weight off.

Maintenance for me is mostly exactly the same as losing but with splurging a bit at social occasions. 😅
There isn't a whole load of wiggle room that's for sure.

VanellopeVonSchweetz99 · 10/07/2024 21:52

Yup. I don't know what I was thinking really, thanks for setting me straight. 😅

Can I ask please, after being on wegoby for a few months (reached 1mg max) I took a 2 month break due to funds. Just went back on it (1mg) but I have such headaches that I am wondering if I should have returned to .025. Any advice?

As said before, after 2 months break you need to go back to 0.25mg. Now because you have used your pen already and ideally it only should be used over a 6 week period I would keep using the pen but only take 0.25mg from that pen. You can do this using a click chart for the pen you are on. Find them online and it tells you how many clicks you do for a certain dose. I do 11 clicks of 1.7mg pen for 0.25mg dose which is what I'm currently on. That's my advice and then build up slowly again to the dose you need.

Stel83 · 11/07/2024 07:38

Someone said before can you lose weight calorie counting. Well I joined weight watchers years ago and do WW with exercise I lost as much weight as I lost on Wegovy but I have to say losing with Wegovy is obviously easier because it just cuts your appetite right down so your in a deficit so easily. With WW you have to watch everything you eat and make sure you get in your steps and exercise. Plus I hate fighting the hunger and I get bad hunger. I haven't taken my usual 0.25mg last Sunday because I'm away on holiday and didn't want to feel ill away with my bf but it's a lot harder to eat small portions and not snack. Can't wait to get home and take 0.25mg because even that small amount has an effect. It does upset me that after all this time by body has suddenly decided it doesn't like Wegovy at all and I get very bad GI issues even though I was on it for 6 months relatively easily. I don't know why it suddenly happened. Has anyone else experienced that???

Yep maintenance is hard but I've worked my way up to 2000 calories a day and maintaining so it's a lot easier when you've built up calories and incorporated exercise.

You eat 2000 calories a day to maintain your weight? That's with loads of exercise every day? What does your daily exercise consist of?

I do. It's not loads of exercise really. I walk for an hour in the morning and then swim after work and then in the evening I do a Caroline Girvan weights program (free on YouTube) so I've built up lots of muscle. And then another walk as I've to walk the dog anyway.

@Candyfloss99
I'm about to start Caroline Girvan. What weights do you recommend for a complete novice? I'm reasonably fit, I run a fair amount, but not very strong.

Start light because its better to get the moves right

she uses very heavy but I got an adjustable set from Amazon for £30. I started low and worked out all the moves over time to make sure no injuries. Then I gradually moved up. I still am not super strong but I got a lot of muscle definition so far. I’m now working on strength and that involves a lot of reps at a manageable weight. You will need a set of different weights. For me I can do biceps 5-6kg each arm but triceps only 3-4kg as they are a tiny muscle. I have a dodgy back so I am careful what I lift. Legs are usually higher weights so I have built up more and more with legs but I still also do things with body weight - you can just start with body weight or light weights. I still get a lot of out it. I did a leg one yesterday and really feeling it, even though it wasn’t super heavy weights it still makes a difference

the ones she does a lot are lunges and RDL’s so I’ve spent time practicing them so I don’t hurt myself

I do think the neoprene weights are easier on your hands - mine are quite hard as thick plastic adjustable dumbbells so if I had the money I would buy neoprene but they are expensive and I would need an entire set from 3kg to 10kg which I can’t afford!

Also this is the thread in exercise

it’s a nice thread as no one is super competitive and very helpful. Apparently the CG Facebook groups are not everyone’s taste 😂

That's a lot of exercise in one day to be honest, walk, swim, YouTube exercise and another walk. That's great if you can fit all that in everyday and I can see why you can eat 2000 calories a day. I need to build muscle so I can eat more and maintain but don't have time for that much exercise daily but keep it up that's great!

I do need to start lifting weights to build muscle. Can you send the link on Amazon for your adjustable weights that you use please, thanks

Menora · 11/07/2024 10:27

I hope this link works! They aren’t kind on your hands but you can buy wraps/grips

I've had these a while and no issues

Amazon

I've been off it for a month and Jesus I'm starving all the time.

It's a real nuisance having the food noise back too. I'm fighting it but it's bloody hard.

I don't weigh myself so no idea if I've gained but my clothes are feeling a bit tighter. I did expect that though.

I didn't really get any side effects except my hair started falling out (maybe from weight loss not wegovy) and I really miss the wegovy tbh.

Well I suppose it is but I always did that amount of exercise even before I took wegovy so the only thing I added in was the weight lifting so didn't seem too much to me.

I totally understand how some of your are feeling re Maintenence, I’m finding it so much harder than loosing. The food noise has crept back up and I’m finding myself thinking about food a lot again. I knew wegovy got rid of the noise but I’d forgotten just how much, if that makes sense.

i do a lot of exercise so I think that is helping to keep my weight stable, but my food choices haven’t been the best.

I really, really, really wish the food noise would just disappear forever!

re weights.. if you build more muscle can you eat more??

I stopped in May. I lost quite a bit of hair too :( Have you had your thyroid levels checked? My provider advised me to do that when I'd finished, and my levels are off, I have to repeat in another month.
I'm flipping ravenous in the evenings, can't seem to find anything to fill me up, it's ridiculous. Thinking I'l have to try Mounajro soon :(

DollyPlastic · 12/07/2024 13:36

I haven't had my thyroid check, I'll get that done thanks.

I've messaged my online pharmacy about going into mounjaro today. I'm really struggling but think they'll say no as it's been over 8 weeks since I ordered (I bought a high pen and counted clicks) and my bmi isn't high enough now.

liz4change · 12/07/2024 18:34

Hello all. Still here, still bobbing around my final goal weight 3 months or so on from my final jab, though over the final 6 weeks I was using W I was doing .5 every two weeks.

Just getting used to being hungry :)

I know just how you feel and it's really hard because the food noise and hunger is very hard to deal with. Honestly after being on Wegovy I would glad have a gastric band as the food noise would never come back at all. I really miss being on the higher dose.

I also lost a lot of hair which is sad because I had really thick hair and it just began falling out, it's much thinner than it used to be but I'm hoping I get the thickness back since I'm not on the higher dose anymore. That was also hard to deal with. I have began taking way more vitamins since February to help with the hair loss. I think it is due to Wegovy ad many people have experienced this on Wegovy.

Yes, muscle burns more calories which allows you to eat more calories but still maintain the weight. This is why they say exercise when you lose weight because you are also loosing muscle too.

I'm sorry others have experienced hair loss too. I asked on a thread a few months ago and I was the only one, it's oddly reassuring that it's not just me.
