Following on from the January thread.

February 2024! Start to get Fit & Fabulous by adopting healthy eating habits & moving more. Join-in to reset & refresh and become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9st. I had a blip a couple of years ago when my thyroid went wonky but now I’m back on track.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Follow along to get Fit & Fabulous in readiness for the long awaited Spring and a bit of sunshine ☀️

Very pleased with my weigh in, a loss of fractionally under 2lb. I had a really good week last week so I'd prepared myself for no loss this week. Getting close to a stone now.

Sw 15st 5lb
Cw 14st 5.4lb
This week 1.14lb
Total loss 13.2lb

TheRealHousewife · 05/02/2024 09:23

Good Morning All

Fabulous result @HighlandCowRose 👍

@WhatWouldTheDoctorDo I do like a bit of porridge myself … the drizzle of double cream and honey might have something to do with that. I’ve not had it in quite a while as it spikes my blood sugars sadly. It’s said to be good to help reduce harmful cholesterol levels 👍

@CumbrianExile @Stripyunicorn Welcome to Februarys thread👍 Good luck with your target. Sounds doable 👍

@PatienceOfEngels You sound all sorted 👌Batch cooking makes life so much easier going forward 👍.

@afaloren Sounds like you had a good weekend 🥳

@WhatWouldTheDoctorDo Sounds like a good breakfast 😋

@LumionaMoonsplash Fantastic graphic of your progress so far! Well done 👏

@LegoTherapy Youll be soon due a whoosh 💩😬

@VallesMarineris You are very welcome 👍

@AnnieCambs That reads as a very tasty recipe 😋👌

@ChickenChipsandBeans Happy Belated Birthday 🎂🥳

Sorry if I’ve missed anyone. I am nervous of scrolling back to far as I’ve lost posts in the recent past when the page has spontaneously refreshed. Very frustrating.

Menu
Meal 1 - Broccoli Ginger and coconut soup. GF bread.
Meal 2 - Chicken with tarragon cream sauce, carrots, peas, cauliflower and kale.

Tea, black coffee and water.

Remember to set your intentions ladies; revisit why you’re doing this and have an eye on your end goal. You will get there!

Well done everyone on your losses and successes! Hope everyone is ok.

I had my weigh in today, -1lb which is better than nothing and it’s still a loss of 15lb in 5 weeks which I will definitely take. Only to be expected to slow down a little.

I did walk 18,000 steps yesterday! Just going to keep going with a plan I know works, and not lose motivation!

Keep going everyone.

ThreeRingCircus · 05/02/2024 09:38

Morning all, just checking in. It hasn't been the best weekend food wise as I was out with friends for dinner and drinks plus we had a family birthday. I think I'm going to really focus this week and weigh on Friday instead of Monday so I have time to rectify things 🤣.

I've been keeping the step count up though and am going to the gym today and tomorrow. I really want to be out of the 14st bracket by March!

CumbrianExile · 05/02/2024 09:46

Morning all. Checking in for my Monday weigh in. Down 0.4lb this week, which is ok. I am still struggling to get back on plan as it seems everything is getting on top of me and my answer is cake/crisps. My Grandma's funeral is next week (it seems to have been a long gap!) so I am on a mission to stick to calories until then. I have been for a walk this morning following the school run (which I walked too instead of the usual car journey) and I am planning a swim at lunch time.

WeirdPookah · 05/02/2024 10:34

I didn't feel great Saturday night, ache in my intestines. Ate waffles for breakfast, but then ate nothing else all day, it hurt too much. I ate some tinned pineapple in the evening as I felt light headed and shaky from not eating. But still felt uncomfy.

Today, been shopping, got lots to organise this week for my daughters birthday which has managed to spread out over 4 events now! Need to do wrapping, make and freeze cake to decorate on Sunday, cleaning and tidying to do, lots of party foods to organise!

Trying to keep a level head for this week, as next week will pretty much be a write-off, party, pancake day, kids party, day out, scones with grandparents!

B: black bean burrito
L: protein roll, ham, peppers, onions
D: mango almond chickpea korma, cauliflower

TheRealHousewife · 05/02/2024 11:13

@WeirdPookah Has your pain gone now? 🤞

@CumbrianExile Well done 👍 Down is a win !

@ThreeRingCircus Well done on keeping up your steps and exercise! It’s not always easy to get in.

@maybein2022 Over a stone loss in 5 weeks is awesome progress! Well done! 👍👏👌

@WhatWouldTheDoctorDo that sounds good, I like my porridge as overnight oats usually. Good amount of fibre yesterday too!
@HighlandCowRose Great loss this week too, so close to a stone now!
@TheRealHousewife that menu sounds great, love the sound of meal 2. Is it a homemade tarragon sauce?
@maybein2022 that's so many steps, well done!
@ThreeRingCircus I think if you can manage to lose or maintain with things like birthdays etc you are doing amazing. Good plan to delay weigh in a bit!
@CumbrianExile sorry about your grandma, you are doing amazingly.
@WeirdPookah that menu sounds lovely!

Today I've had overnight oats, and a hard boiled egg so far. Plan is leftovers for lunch (sausage pasta bake) and then pork shashlik for tea with salad.

LeftyLou · 05/02/2024 12:43

How is everyone doing?

I have kept a food diary this week and I am well within my syn allowance (SW) but I've had a sneaky peek on scales and I am pretty much maintaining. Which is frustrating. But I might see a drop in the next couple of days. To be fair I did have a carb heavy day yesterday so might be effecting it. I just need to stay focused because I am so good at saying sod it at the first blip.

imustbepatient · 05/02/2024 12:50

Happy Monday everyone. Some lovely sounding menus and recipes on this thread, really inspiring thank you.

It was my birthday at the weekend, but I feel like I managed to hit the right balance between enjoying myself and keeping where I want to be, health / eating wise. We had a bunch of friends round but I cooked rather than get the take away I probably would have done otherwise, and the food was tasty and didn't leave me feeling bleurgh as a take away might have done.

I drank a bit more than I'd planned but not too crazy, and didn't have anything on Friday or Sunday. Saturday turned into a later night than expected though and I was so tired yesterday I barely moved!

More activity planned for the rest of the week, and I'm sure the scales will have blipped up a little, so will leave them alone for the next day or two.

All in all I'm really happy with how it went, and feels like some good pointers I can take from it and apply to the half term holiday we have coming up.

CumbrianExile · 05/02/2024 14:00

@TheRealHousewife yes, a loss is a loss. I am happy with it to be fair. I know I am not one who gets the big losses very often so as long as its going in the right direction I am happy.

Thanks @Stripyunicorn (love the name). My Grandma was always telling me to lose weight (whilst feeding me cake ha) so I have to do it for her now.

Well done @imustbepatient, navigating the social events can be really hard, so choosing to cook and not get a takeaway is great. I bet it tasted nicer too!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 05/02/2024 14:46

Amazing loss in 5 weeks @maybein2022 well done!

It's hard to navigate social occasions @ThreeRingCircus quite right to stay off the scales a couple of days.

Hope you're feeling better today @WeirdPookah

Thanks @Stripyunicorn I was really pleased with the fibre intake. I'm finding to takes a bit of effort to get it up there.

Happy birthday for the weekend @imustbepatient and well done for dodging the takeaway!

Good luck with week ahead and staying on focus everyone!

WeirdPookah · 05/02/2024 16:45

@TheRealHousewife @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo I ate breakfast and seemed ok, after having lunch, nothing exciting or OTT I feel awful again. made my family dinner and sitting in the living room alone now as I can't sit and listen to them eat!

It's not terrible pain, but relentless and just enough to be absolutely miserable. Feel super bloated, but been using the bathroom ok. So no idea why I feel rubbish.

@maybein2022 you are doing great!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 05/02/2024 17:17

That does not sound good @WeirdPookah one for the GP?

buzzofthebumblebee · 05/02/2024 17:52

This weekend was a combo of feeling very tired & too many carbs. Also partook in gin & slimline, now it's no longer Dry Jan. But no chocolate or other sweet things, despite huge cravings. Hopefully back on track and focus now for the rest of feb. Really wish the sun would shine. Need a calorie-free boost!

Belated happy birthday @imustbepatient , and kudos on the restraint.

B - blueberries, greek kefir yoghurt & spoon museli
L - chicken salad
D - leftover roast chicken dinner, extra veg

No exercise today but will go running 1st thing tmw.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 05/02/2024 18:00

I didn't do well this weekend. Far too many carbs.

I cooked a lovely stir fry last night, which was great, but ate far too much rice with it plus DH and i drank a bottle and a half of pinot grigio.

Today has been better, but not perfect.

Flowerchild547 · 05/02/2024 18:37

Everyone seems to be doing so well, glad the motivation is still there even after the initial new year hype has died down.

I’ve been feeling a bit down the past few days as I think I should have lost more. I think perhaps I am consuming too much weight loss media and perhaps I need to cut back a bit. I made a decision that I was going to lose weight sensibly and to do that I needed to lose slowly and steadily. However it’s still hard when I’m not losing as much as the person posting a tiktok who seems to eat more calorific things than myself etc.

I guess I’m just sharing in case others are feeling the same and to say you’re still doing well! Stick with it!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 05/02/2024 19:27

Step away from TikTok weight loss posts @Flowerchild547 Slow and steady is how you achieve long term results.

Menu for the day:

B - porridge with flaxseeds, chia seeds, banana, honey
L - tomato and lentil homemade soup, apple, couple of small oat biscuits
D - salmon, rice, spring greens

Exercise - les mills strength class followed by a stretch class (trying to do stretch class every day for 4 weeks to start work on improving my flexibility)

Fibre is nowhere near yesterday's dizzy heights, so may have a seeded bagel later and some more fruit to up it a bit, as I have plenty of calories spare.

afaloren · 05/02/2024 19:51

Good to be back on plan after a weekend of relative excess.

B - Protein yoghurt, banana
L - Lentil and bacon soup, clementines
D - Cod and chorizo fishcake, broccoli, green beans, chocolate protein pot
S - Nothing yet
E - 2 x dog walks, yoga, cardio session at the gym

Gemstonebeach · 05/02/2024 20:40

It’s been a weekend of not sticking to the diet with bbqs and family dinners. Back on the wagon this week, hopefully my weigh in isn’t too bad on Wednesday.

HighlandCowRose · 05/02/2024 20:48

Bless you Flowerchild547 it can be utterly soul destroying when you're doing everything right and the results don't show. Keep going with sensible approach

Stripyunicorn thanks, really hoping I get it next week 🤞🏻

Today

B Hummus on toast x2
L Butternut, tomato and rocket pitta
D Jacket potato, 'chicken breast' steamed carrot, cauliflower and purple broccoli
S Crisps, wine & mango yogurt with raspberries & granola.

EndlessGuineaPigCycle · 05/02/2024 21:47

@HighlandCowRose Thanks for the tip. It did seem a bit watery when I first made it but seemed to have thickened up a bit overnight. I really enjoyed it!

@PatienceOfEngels I love butternut squash soup and the pancakes sound lovely!

Menu today
B Porridge with pomegranate, blueberries and milled flax seeds
L Squash and Coconut Dhansak with a mini naan
D Mexican Egg rolls (these are so quick and really tasty, my DD13 even allowed me to teach her how to make them for herself and she'd enjoyed trying mine the other day!)
S protein yoghurt, Highlights, frothy coffee, strawberries, apple

I have been trying to drink plenty and also did my treadmill for 30 mins

I have also been trying to watch my fibre intake, it is surprisingly difficult sometimes to meet the 30g goal, I only just scraped it today!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 05/02/2024 23:22

Oh I wouldn't have thought of pomegranate seeds on porridge @EndlessGuineaPigCycle I will try those next time. I read in a couple of places that women should aim for 25g fibre and that it's 30g (though other articles say 30g for both) but I am struggling to reach 25g most days. Will keep on it though.

ImALittlePea · 06/02/2024 09:11

Morning all. My goodness how is it Tuesday?! Have caught up with the thread and you're all bloody incredible with your meals, accountability, honesty and support.... but there's too much to reply to individually - sorry 😬

Although - thanks for the recipe @AnnieCambs it sounds delicious!

The weekend was a mixed bag, not as good as I'd hoped, but there we go.

Yesterday I started tracking calories again, I was within my daily limit:
L - one egg (fried in a little oil) with toast, butter, a small amount of cheese and ketchup (bare cupboards and fridge as about to go shopping so it was literally all I could rustle up!)
D - homemade sweet potato chips, sausages, peas, ketchup. Followed by the last few squares of mini egg chocolate - not buying any more now for a while as it's irresistible!
S - a few cuppas and one coffee

Today's plan isn't quite formed yet as I'm just about to go to Aldi but lunch will hopefully be a salad of sorts, or possibly a falafel, houmous and salad wrap. Dinner tbc, more than likely baked potato with salad or similar.

Interview nerves building now 😬 trying to finalise what I'm wearing so I don't have to faff with that on the day, but I haven't had 'proper' work clothes since 2010 as all of my jobs have been v casual! So I'm struggling in that sense. Not helped by it being an 'informal' interview which makes it a bit harder to pitch it right 🥴

ThreeRingCircus · 06/02/2024 09:56

Good luck with the interview @ImALittlePea! 🤞🏻

There are some lovely sounding meals on here, I definitely need to try making things like daal and dhansak as I really love lentils but have always been a bit nervous about cooking with them at home/getting the spicing right.

I had a good day exercise wise yesterday and walked 7 miles. I'm doing the walk 100 miles in February challenge alongside my siblings for Cancer Research UK in memory of my lovely auntie and getting sponsorship money is really helping me focus on getting out on those walks!

Today's plan:

B - coffee, apple and peanut butter
L - greek yoghurt, berries, flaxseed
D - scrambled eggs and mushrooms on sourdough
E - more walking and 30 mins on the exercise bike
