Following on from the January thread.

February 2024! Start to get Fit & Fabulous by adopting healthy eating habits & moving more. Join-in to reset & refresh and become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9st. I had a blip a couple of years ago when my thyroid went wonky but now I’m back on track.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Follow along to get Fit & Fabulous in readiness for the long awaited Spring and a bit of sunshine ☀️

Happy birthday @ChickenChipsandBeans

I'm not much use on the online videos, I use Les mills (though I think they do free trials and have some offers on just now). I've seen Caroline Girvan mentioned a lot for online weights programmes.

HighlandCowRose · 02/02/2024 21:28

Wow afaloren that's great.

Feeling re-focused today

B seeded toast with hummus
L spicy parsnip soup with 1 slice of bread
D coconut & squash dhansak, smoked tofu with rice & steamed cauliflower
S crisps and wine
E body project workout

Did my usual Saturday morning workout this afternoon, have a early hair appointment for dd and we're also going to the cinema tomorrow

AnnieCambs I'd be interested in your receipe too

Happy birthday to ChickenChipsandBeans

AnnieCambs · 03/02/2024 06:39

That looks like my kind of menu!

My mum uses tofu as mince, by blitzing in blender until mice consistency. It's really tasty!

Ok I'm going to try my best as I'm a eyeball cook!

Tarka daal

1 cup any lentils (orange variety cook the quickest. Other varieties may take longer. Or even 1 tin of red kidney beans drained.

3 or 4 garlic cloves (semi/roughly crushed)

1 or half teaspoon Kashmiri mixed spices sometimes labelled as basaar If you can get them. Worth buying if you enjoy making curries. Alternative - red chilli powder, coriander powder, paprika (equal piches).

Any oil or fat. My preference ghee, olive or good butter. Roughly 1 to 2 tablespoons.

Pinch cumin seeds, 2 or 3 cloves

For garnish - green chillies, coriander fried onions (oprional).

Salt to taste

Boil lentils in spices and salt until soft. Skip if tinned lentils.

In frying pan heat oil or butter, add cumin, until it releases aroma. Add crushed garlic fry medium to high until realleases aroma and is medium to dark brown. Have both pans bubbling hot. Tip the garlic pan over the lentils - sizzle is so satisfying 😌. Turn the heat up if your lentils need thickening. Add more water if they are too thick.

Garnish with green chillies, fried onions and coriander. Crush a couple cloves and cumin until powdery and add. ( can also use Garam masala).

Freezes really well.

For the Raita

1 ro 1/2 pot natural yoghurt whipped.
Finely chopped cucumber (tiny squares)
Finely chopped red onions
1/2 teaspoon mint from jar or fresh (this is optional but delicious)
Saltbto taste

Mix everything together. Can be watered down with milk for more watery consistency...

@TheRealHousewife Thank you for the thread.

I fell off the January thread around the third week. Weight wobbled up,I eventually got a grip, and this morning scales saw a small loss.

I'm doing IF, particularly not eating after I've had my tea, and reducing carbs to 80-100g daily. I don't think further than the half-stone target and the clothes that might fit. Exercise is Swedish Death Clean in house, garden, garage.

Two pounds to lose to get to next half-stone. Ideally by the long weekend.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 03/02/2024 08:12

Welcome back @VallesMarineris and thanks for the recipe @AnnieCambs I shall try that out.

We have no plans this weekend for the first time this year, so I'm looking forward to catching up on some errands, watching some rugby, and enjoying some healthy meals!

DH and I spent last night looking out high fibre recipes, so we have a few new ones to try next week.

Good luck with the weekend temptations everyone. No Friday night wine for us, so I'm feeling quite virtuous!

PatienceOfEngels · 03/02/2024 08:20

Not sure what's going on with my weight this week as have been up 0.2kg every day since WoW with no added snacks/UPF (so now 0.6kg up)! Oh well, keep on keeping on I guess.

Yesterday I did end up having a snack (cheese and unsalted nuts) but no evening snacking.

Have fallen off the yoga wagon the last few days. Still having some issues from my surgery in December and wonder if some of the moves have aggravated. So going to try some daily meditation with a few flows thrown in instead and more regular gentle walks instead.

Today
boiled egg, rye toast and butter, coffee with milk
butternut squash soup
pumpkin and banana pancakes with greek yoghurt and honey and maybe some ice cream (celebration dinner as DC2 gets a sports certificate today)
snacks - fruit or maybe a piece of apply pie if I get round to making it.

Going to try and get my work finished this morning so I can relax the rest of the weekend. theatre out with a friend tonight to look forward to.

LumionaMoonsplash · 03/02/2024 10:21

Went out last night with friends for a meal and drinks. I'm pleased that I chose the salmon over the pizza I'd normally get and enjoyed the wine despite having a little too much, I really enjoyed myself.
I'm in my gym clothes and a bit hungover but I'm determined to get there and workout.

HighlandCowRose · 03/02/2024 11:05

Thanks AnnieCambs will be trying this at some point next week

LegoTherapy · 03/02/2024 11:10

Morning all. Reporting a small loss here but the scales read lo when I rechecked so I don't know how much. My gut is finally moving again now I can eat proper food so that probably accounts for the loss. It's amazing how much being bunged up affects the scales 🤢

It's a grey and dismal day here and I've got that horrible anxious feeling I sometimes get for no apparent t reason. Off to the shops to buy things for our train picnic and get some fresh air. Being outside walking always relieves any anxiety even if it's only to the shops.

This weekend my focus is lots of water and eating soup. We will get a good walk in tomorrow although the canal towpaths might be extremely muddy.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

WeirdPookah · 03/02/2024 12:45

We are having a quiet weekend, after last weekend I really needed it.

B: fried eggs, miso mushrooms, 1 slice seeded toast
L: taco soup, tortilla chips, small amount of cheese
D: mashed swede/carrot, red cabbage, veggie meatballs

HighlandCowRose · 03/02/2024 19:40

B Banana
L Bag of graze at the cinema
D sausage, lentil and kale casserole
S glass of wine

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 03/02/2024 21:25

EndlessGuineaPigCycle · 03/02/2024 21:48

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 04/02/2024 12:19

Morning all, hope everyone is having a good Sunday so far. We're having a bit of a lazy one, I've done a few admin jobs, had a fibre and veg packed breakfast (braised lentils and eggs from a hairy biker book), I'm going to do a stretch class and then do a bit of holiday planning before Sunday lunch. It's been so nice not doing anything social, and I'm feeling the benefit of an alcohol free weekend!

HighlandCowRose · 04/02/2024 14:25

LumionaMoonsplash A great graph

EndlessGuineaPigCycle thanks, hope you and your dd had a lovely day too.
Having another day doing things together, we've been on a walk, spotting deer and squirrels, pancakes for lunch, watching gladiators and she's requested a game of chess

LemonDrizzle23 · 04/02/2024 16:39

Everyone's weekends sound lovely. And more excellent graphs 📉

Quite a calorie dense / salty weekend here 😬 Friday night Vietnamese takeaway.

I went to an exhibition with a friend yesterday and had a long, garlic buttery lunch in Côte. Plus some homemade pizza for tea.

Today I made an effort to IF, cheese and meats for lunch and DH currently has a good looking chicken / tinned tomato / chickpea / chorizo thing in the oven.

Im on track to hit my movement goals - daily 10,000 steps, a body project workout (Friday) and a bike session (today). Just need to get a swim in tomorrow and I will have fulfilled my promise to myself this week!

EndlessGuineaPigCycle · 04/02/2024 18:12

Today's menu
B Porridge with pomegranate, blueberries, and milled flax seeds
L Mushroom and Lentil Risotto
D Vegetable Coconut curry with mini naan
S Highlights, protein yoghurt, frothy coffee

I've been doing lots of batch cooking today, I'm also making Coconut & Squash Dhansak to have during the week (@HighlandCowRose I'm sure I've seen this on your menu a few times, do you use the BBC Good Food recipe? Glad you are having another lovely day with your daughter)

afaloren · 04/02/2024 18:25

Hi everyone, I’ve had a weekend away with much booze and nice food so looking forward to catching up and getting back on the straight and narrow tomorrow!

PatienceOfEngels · 04/02/2024 18:58

I was sure ` wrote a post earlier but maybe I didn't press post!

Last night turned into takeaway (chips!) and I had the leftovers for my lunch as well.

B - pumpkin pancakes with greek yoghurt and caramel sauce
L- chip sandwich with burger sauce
D - sausage casserole with rice and broccoli
S - vanilla ice cream, apple pie and cream

Got out for a walk in the morning (saw a woodpecker, jays, lots of snowdrops). Lego with DS and sat together to watch a TV show as a family for the first time in ages (something I missing the age of streaming! We agreed, no one on devices, no one watches ahead without everyone else so this will be our weekend treat to watch together).

Weight has now gone down after 3 days of going up...very weird! Stressful week ahead. Must remember to drink my water.

PatienceOfEngels · 04/02/2024 19:01

@EndlessGuineaPigCycle I did some batch cooking this weekend as well, mainly for my lunches. Roasted an enormous butternut squash and use half for soup, most of the rest for pumpkin pancakes (froze half) and some puree frozen for when I need it (enough for a batch of about 12 pancakes or maybe 2 portions of soup).

We have bolognese and cooked lamb in the freezer. Maybe another chicken casserole, salmon. I am definitely prepped for healthy eating this week and then its half term so I have more time to try some new things.

LetsHopeSo · 04/02/2024 20:50

.

HighlandCowRose · 04/02/2024 21:14

EndlessGuineaPigCycle yes it is, I found it a little on watery side, it would benefit from adding a little cornflour if you haven't already made it.

B Vanilla latte & choc au pain
L Pancakes with cocoa nibs, strawberries and live mango yogurt
D Mushroom omelette with kimchi
S Wine & crisps, very little chocolate
E Resistance band workout & walk

Stripyunicorn · 04/02/2024 21:16

I've been reading along but haven't posted in Feb yet.
I'm rubbish at replying to everyone as I use my phone and can't remember who specifically said what but I do read everything.
Everyone is doing really well, ups and downs are too be expected, especially if we are planning to eat this way for life.
I've had a good weekend exercise wise, boxing yesterday (my arms are sore today!), and got out my old weighted hula hoop today so did some of that.
Will be weighing in on Wednesday, hoping for a loss 🤞.
I started Feb at 12 stone 8.2, I'm away for half term so hoping to be at 12 stone 5 for then as my first mini goal.
After that aiming for under 12 stone by the end of march.
I've got a holiday in June and ideally want to be under 11 stone for it, so we shall see. I go in 19 weeks, and I'm 22lb over 11 stone so hopefully doable!!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 05/02/2024 07:36

Morning all, feeling very pleased with my quiet and healthy weekend. Also managed 26g fibre between my lentil and eggs breakfast and pot roast chicken with veg & barley yesterday. Broke with tradition today his morning and had some porridge. I hate porridge really, but it was made more palatable with flax seeds, banana and a dash of honey!
