It's me - Owl.

I lost access to my previous account so I cannot seem to find the old thread.

Shall we have a new one for 2024? Fresh start and all that?

I'll tag as many of us as I can recall!

Doomscrolling! That pretty much sums up my days.

I realized I've been making a lot of excuses due to health problems (usually, "ahh, I'll have another slice of bread, please") that aren't helping me.

Otherwise, I've tightened the belt, so to speak. Went out to eat this weekend and due to my dairy intolerance, there wasn't much to eat. Found chicken and sausage gumbo at a restaurant and had a few of hubby's french fries. Have decided if I go out and have a drink, I need to find something that is stronger that makes me drink slower. I can pound a craft cocktail or a gin and tonic in record time, which makes me have another, and then it's off to find cookies or cake after that.

So, with the gumbo, I had a hot toddy, which was the weirdest combination but I did, in fact, drink it slow.

We had the Super Bowl here in the States yesterday, which is another junk food event. Made sure all the desserts for the kids had dairy in them and I snacked on popcorn and fruit all night.

It's been ridiculously cold and rainy and my exercise is down, but I'm just keeping on. No excuses. Not every day is going to be a winner, but as long as I stay in the circle, I'm fine with it.

Runnr · 12/02/2024 18:46

Good luck @ElvenDreamer

I think I need to tape my mouth shut today.

Poached eggs, mushrooms, toast
slice of cake
slice of toast with cream cheese, tomatoes and a bit of popcorn
slice of cake
roast chicken and veg tray bake
slice of cake and hot chocolate

I’m not normally one for such a sweet tooth but today has been (and continues to be) a stressful and busy day at work. Going to try and not work too late and have some sort of down time pre-bed.

Runnr · 16/02/2024 05:47

This week has been something else. I’ve had a leak in my home (provided for by work) so now the dog and I are in a hotel room for the foreseeable. Rather than let it derail me, I’m just going to do the best I can with what I’ve got. I have a small fridge so over the weekend will try and get some fresh stuff in so I’m not eating out all of the time. There are some very basic kitchen facilities so that’s something too.

ThinksALot · 16/02/2024 10:32

Morning,

Sorry to hear that @Runnr but you've got a great positive mental attitude - so hopefully you can make the most of the situation!

Week 7 weigh in today and it's been my best week so far - I've lost 5lbs, so that's a total of 1st and 5lbs in 7 weeks. I'm starting to feel and see the difference. Yay!

Startingoverinmy30s · 17/02/2024 21:34

Hi all! I’m just starting the Louise Parker method and was hoping I could join you all to help keep me accountable 😁

Im a serial dieter - tried all the usual like slimming world, weight watchers, Keto, shake diets with limited short term success. In 2022 I lost 2.5 stone before my sister’s wedding by calorie counting and doing walk at home workouts. Since then I’ve slipped back into bad habits and put just over a stone back on. I’ve tried different plans but I just don’t seem to be able to get into the right headspace and stop myself binging. I’ve been reading the books and I really like the sound of the plan and the recipes look so nutritious! I’ve been reading through the other LP threads and been really inspired by posters successes! I’ve got a holiday booked for end of November and really want to shift this weight and feel confident again.

Startingoverinmy30s · 21/02/2024 10:05

So day 1 was yesterday after feeling a bit poorly on Monday.

breakfast - oat bran and raspberries
snack 1 - plum with fat free Greek yoghurt
lunch - goats cheese and beetroot salad
snack 2 - an apple with almond butter
dinner - steak with salad and 1 tsp Dijon mustard

really enjoyed the food but I did find myself craving bread in the evening (my partner brought home a French baguette!) but I didn’t cave and had a camomile tea instead and went to bed.

exercise - did a 3 mile Leslie sansone walk at home workout

OwlWheresYourTowel · 21/02/2024 15:22

Limps back in

How many new starts can one person have?

OwlWheresYourTowel · 21/02/2024 15:25

Food for today (conveniently forgets the past few weeks/ months /'err year)

Greek yogurt with air fried apple chunks, cinnamon and chia seeds with a drizzle of peanut butter

Startingoverinmy30s · 22/02/2024 10:28

food from yesterday- day 2

breakfast - oat bran and raspberries
snack 1 - plum and Greek yoghurt
lunch - three bean salad
snack 2 - orange slices and cinnamon
dinner - halloumi and puy lentils

need to up how much water I’m drinking (why is wine and gin so much easier to drink 😁)

exercise - 3 mile Leslie sansone walk at home workout.

ElvenDreamer · 14/03/2024 14:27

Hi all, so I haven't quite made it through lent off Mumsnet, 😆 in my defence I have stayed off Facebook so small wins!

Weight continuing to stay off, and maybe even creep a little further down without me trying too hard, if I try too hard I end up chucking in the towel I've found. So I'm currently doing something that might look more lifestyle phase but not quite, and it seems to be working.

How is everyone?

AgnesWickfield · 07/04/2024 17:08

Hi ladies, not sure if this thread is still going but I'm about to restart LP, having had a shock on the scales the other day (actually not that much of a shock, my jeans were already giving me the bad news).

I was on a LP thread yonks ago under a different name. In fact I actually discovered a tub of stevia in the cupboard a few weeks ago and binned it! Bit annoyed about that although I didn’t like it much so will try without.

Tricky as a pescatarian who is mainly veggie but there are definitely options in the books. I'm just lazy really.

Any tips for LP-friendly packed lunches to take to work? That's an area where I struggle.

MisshapenHat · 08/04/2024 01:18

So...it has been exactly a year since I started LPM. I've lost about 20 pounds (1 stone 4? Sorry, I'm in the US), though most of the weight loss was in the first 7 months. The rest has been losing a tiny centimeter here or there. Even though there's a few minor tweaks I could continue to strive for, I feel at this point, it's just me being petty. (Also, I worry that it would start to age my face.)

For anyone who is curious, I followed the first six weeks and the last six weeks of the year very strictly. I was typically doing about one treat or so during the week during this time. Had holidays, anniversaries, trips, birthdays...the usual. If I stepped out of the circle, I got back in the next day.

Rarely hit 10k steps a day but did do walking. I did my own exercises (lifting weights or Rosemary Conley videos on YouTube).

I like to see before and after pictures, so I hope this motivates someone. The left side is March 2023. The right is March 2024.

Now...I just need to figure out this lifestyle phase. I feel like I'm stepping out of the circle too much (I had PASTA this week! And pizza!) but I know I'll figure it out soon enough.

If you're into measurements,
Start:
Waist- 33in/84cm
Navel area (my widest part)- 38in/96cm
Hips:- 40in/101cm

End:
Waist- 28.5in/72cm
Navel-31in/79cm
Hips-36in/91cm

Well done, @MisshapenHat ,that's amazing.

Day 1 done here. I confess I've been so hungry. I wonder whether LP as a vegetarian is harder...don't know why but I imagine meat is better for filling you up! It's been several decades since I ate any so I can't remember! Anyway, I'll persevere. Only about 5000 steps (the curse of home working) but I did do a gym class for an hour.

MisshapenHat · 08/04/2024 21:20

Hi Agnes,

I'd suggest a lot of eggs and beans/legumes. If you're into dairy, you can get a lot of protein that way, too. Just remember to plan your meals around the protein/ that will help you be less hungry!

AgnesWickfield · 09/04/2024 08:05

Thanks @MisshapenHat I do eat dairy and eggs. I eat a bit of fish too. I need to be more organised with shopping and planning ahead. I was winging it yesterday with whatever I happened to have in the house, eg I used low fat cottage cheese instead of full fat feta in the lunch recipe I followed, which was probably a mistake.

ElvenDreamer · 10/04/2024 07:41

Hi folks, Hi @AgnesWickfield, welcome to a very sporadic posting group 😄.

I'm still here and hanging in there, have been basically operating on something that looks a bit like 'lifestyle' for the last few weeks to really try and kick the bingeing urges. I'd say it's working. I've also been upping my fitness, ran my 1st 10k the other day so feeling pretty pleased. I'm therefore gearing up to do another 6 week 'transform' which I hope will take me about where I want to be, it will also nicely fit into the next half of the school term, hitting lifestyle just as I go on a hiking holiday where frankly some kind of cake is always needed!

Who else is still in here?

AgnesWickfield · 10/04/2024 18:33

Well, I'm on day 3 and I've swung from being constantly hungry to worrying about not being hungry enough! Maybe this is where I need to trust the process, as my kids say, but I'm.half wondering if I'm going to end up gaining weight!?! I'll weigh myself at the weekend and see.

AgnesWickfield · 10/04/2024 18:34

And thanks for the welcome, @ElvenDreamer I'm in awe of your 10k having just about limped to the end of couch to 5k a couple of years ago.

AgnesWickfield · 20/04/2024 09:12

I fear I may be talking to myself here 😅 but I have lost 3 lbs in 2 weeks, and am feeling pretty pleased with myself. I have definitely not been sticking to LP to the letter: last weekend I stepped so far out of the circle due to having guests all weekend that I was practically in the next county, plus pizza and wine is a Friday night tradition in our house that I'm.not willing to give up. So all things considered I've done pretty well.

All that said, now that I'm in the swing of things during the week this is hands down the easiest diet I've ever followed. It took me 2 weeks to pluck up to courage to weigh myself because I was half convinced I'd been putting on weight, given the lack of hunger between meals!

ElvenDreamer · 21/04/2024 20:59

@AgnesWickfield I agree it's pretty easy when you're in the swing, the food is all good too so you really don't feel like you're depriving yourself of anything which is a massive advantage for the mindset.

Zazu44 · 27/04/2024 12:35

Hi just found my LP books and have made a plan to start Monday. Getting married in the summer and would love to lose a bit ( really have 3 st to lose) before then. Just want to feel healthier and I like the look of the food.
Have quite an addiction to junk and binge eating so won't be easy but here goes 😊
Any tips much appreciated.

fallenover · 27/04/2024 12:50

I have just bought the books. Starting Monday!

AgnesWickfield · 27/04/2024 13:21

Hi! My tips fwiw are that the nutty type snacks are more filling than the smoothie type ones. Likewise meals containing beans (but I don't eat meat, am guessing meat is pretty filling). On the days I've stuck to those I've not felt hungry at all, even as mealtimes approached. That said, I've been bloody starving on a couple of days for no good reason, I wonder whether hormones / sleep play a part. I've had a few extra nuts on those days. Good luck!

OwlWhereIsYourTowel · 27/04/2024 19:09

<sashays in>

Back again! It's Owl, the op, and I've had more returns that I don't know what

This time I've stayed away until I was totally sure I was back in the right head space and well ... I am!

I've been back to it for 6 weeks now and I've lost 18 lbs so I finally feel I can join in again and I'm committed to it once more

Anyone see that Louise was offering a new plan?!! I had some messages with her and just wow at the cost!!

I'll catch up on posts - welcome to the new folk

AgnesWickfield · 27/04/2024 20:04

18lbs is amazing, well done!

Dread to think what a personalised LP plan would cost 😱 Actually one of my main criticisms of the method is how many of the recipes seem to be geared to women with a particular lifestyle (ie plenty of time, so probably not us mere mortals with FT jobs!) although I am now a bit more organised with making lunch the night before to take to work. Would be good to see a few more options for lunch to take to work/ quick meals for time-poor people.
