It's me - Owl.

I lost access to my previous account so I cannot seem to find the old thread.

Shall we have a new one for 2024? Fresh start and all that?

I'll tag as many of us as I can recall!

Still keeping on with it all! Down 4 lbs so far and trying to keep all mindful about my eating

Started the day with Greek yogurt, hot cherry Jam made with cherries, chia seeds and lime juice and some granola

Lunch was sourdough sandwich with halloumi, hummus and salad followed by orange melon and one of the new M & S / Zoe gut shots

Not sure about dinner yet

PlantsFallLikeDominoes · 11/01/2024 20:27

B, vanilla bircher
L, two scrambled eggs, a baby bell, three oatcakes with peanut butter.
S, satsuma
D, left over turkey mince chilli with a dollop of natural yoghurt.

Am away for the weekend and won't be managing 5 mini meals, I'll be dunking croissants in cappuccinos in rome. I'll weigh tomorrow but not going to police anything, although I will try to choose meals that are as on plan as possible with the exception of croissants and cappuccino, oh and pizza and pasta, who am I kidding!

And I didn't resist the biscuits in the end last night, I had two, it could have been a lot worse. Will restart Monday when I'm back.

ThinksALot · 11/01/2024 20:34

Evening!

@PlantsFallLikeDominoes - a trip to Rome sounds fantastic! I wouldn't be monitoring or curtailing any food whilst out there either! I hope you have an amazing time!

4lbs down is great @BattyOwl - well done!

My day has been fine - I gave into a hot chocolate at the coffee shop earlier but avoided the cakes, so I'd say that's a win!

B: vanilla oatbran porridge
S: Cheddar and caramelised red onion soufflés
L: messy eggs
S: above mentioned hot choc!
D: sausages, green veg and butter bean mash - this was a hit with our eldest too.

A long muddy walk means I've done almost 15k steps. Back to the gym tomorrow and out for dinner in the evening.

ThinksALot · 13/01/2024 10:14

Morning!

I was out for dinner last night so didn't get a chance to post.

Anyway, yesterday was week 2 weigh in and I've lost another 3lbs, so 7lbs in total - I'm very happy with it!

Mixed effort with food yesterday:

B: vanilla oatbran porridge
S: hummus and carrots
L: messy eggs
S: hummus and wholemeal pitta, then I stole a small slice of pizza from the kids!
D: steak, salad and chips (I couldn't resist) and a diet coke. Proud I avoided wine and dessert.

Did a gym session and over 10k steps - so all good on the exercise front. I want to be back on track today with my eating.

ElvenDreamer · 13/01/2024 18:51

Hi folks, few days out of the loop, generally being a bit wobbly but the last 2 days have been better.
Yesterday:
Yoghurt, bran and seeds
Apple
Salad
Curry (homeade, no rice)
2 crackers with cheese.

Today:
Oat pancakes
Avocado on a ryvita
Soup and a roll
Nuts
Beef and veg stew.

Short pilates session.

I plan to have a run tomorrow.

Looks like everyone is doing well, keep at it folks!

Runnr · 14/01/2024 17:59

Thanks @ThinksALot - I’ve got all three books and will have a browse. Good luck with working out the commute and new day.

Hope you enjoy Rome @PlantsFallLikeDominoes!

Have been a bit MIA and a bit out of the circle - Thursday I had 2 tequila cocktails and a friend’s house warming and Friday had 2 glasses of red wine at meal out. Yesterday afternoon / evening I also went to a wine tasting so had a few glasses. I have tried to be sensible as much as possible and not go mental with my food choices.

Today was a bit back to normal. I did a food shop without meal planning so it will be interesting to see how this week pans out 😂 I have discovered that I don’t like meal planning and I don’t stick to it.

Food:
Oats topped with strawberries, blueberries, almond flakes and almond butter
Scrambled eggs with tomatoes on nice bread
Several oat and banana cookies (accidentally ate them all over the afternoon - just oats, banana, peanut butter and Dark chocolate chips)
Orzo made with salmon and spinach

Rent: 2x dog walks, 9km run

ThinksALot · 14/01/2024 19:46

Evening!

I was back in the circle yesterday after my (quite restrained) dinner out on Friday night - we did the pizza chicken tray bake recipe from the book for dinner which everyone loved.

Yesterday's food:

B: vanilla oatbran
L: Chicken Salad
S: hummus and 3 x oatcakes
D: chicken pizza tray bake with green salad
S: eat natural bar

Today I've been slightly off course- it was my son's birthday party and so I went with the flow (but not as much as usual)!

B: vanilla oatbran
S: Small choc chip cookie, 2 mini rocky road bites and a handful of pringles
L: argh - we were in McDonalds - I should've got a salad as my main wasn't great anyway. 5 chicken selects, sweet chilli sauce, chips, diet coke and a mcflurry
D: chicken salad, ohh and an Amaretto on ice - was yum.

I made myself go for a walk, so I've done 10.5k steps.

Back in the circle tomorrow!

Runnr · 15/01/2024 17:15

Well done for doing what you can @ThinksALot - you could have eaten “worse” in McDonalds than you did.

I think I’ve managed a full day in the circle. I’m not sure if wholewheat orzo is technically in the circle because many of the recipes are quite low carb but I don’t think I can do the exercise I do without any of the add ons.

Food:
Turkish eggs
Open faced sandwich on “good” bread with cream cheese and cucumber, Nakd bar
Oat cakes with peanut butter and a small banana sliced on top
Orzo with spinach, tomatoes and salmon
Hot chocolate from the book (which was delicious!)

Rent: rest day for me, might do some stretching before bed.

PlantsFallLikeDominoes · 16/01/2024 13:02

Hey!

Had a fab time and ate carbs and drank all weekend! Put a few pounds back on but not fussed.

Am back on it today and was up early at the gym. Will log food later.

Runnr · 16/01/2024 19:07

Glad you had a great time @PlantsFallLikeDominoes!

Food today for me - could have been better, could have been worse.
2 eggs, nice bread
Oat cakes
Grilled chicken, salad, tortilla wrap
Banana and peanut butter and a Nakd bar
2 slices of “good” bread, Boursin and cucumber

Rent: 5km run

ThinksALot · 16/01/2024 20:01

Evening all!

So glad you had a good time in Rome @PlantsFallLikeDominoes - what were your trip highlights? I've just booked 3 nights in Budapest in May - I can't wait!

I had a good day yesterday:

B: vanilla oatbran porridge
S: hummus, oatcakes and some chicken breast
L: messy eggs
D: puy lentils, halloumi and salad (really quick to put together)
S: Hot choc from book

Gym session plus over 10k steps.

Today has been more mixed, I was out shopping with my parents and we had lunch at Nando's...

B: vanilla oatbran porridge
S: Hot choc from Cafe Nero (but I avoided the pastries)...
L: chicken wrap with halloumi and spicy rice
D: Nona's chicken traybake - this was a big hit with all the family and was sooo easy to cook - I will definitely do that one again.

I have walked over 11k just by going shopping, which is good news as I don't fancy going for a walk tonight - it's too cold.

How's everyone doing this week?

MisshapenHat · 17/01/2024 14:20

Here's my meals for the past two days:

Oatmeal and apples
Grilled chicken, avocado, 1 piece of bread
Roasted turkey with smashed root veg. Officially sweet potato is a "high energy" food but I needed something to give energy. The recipe is from Jessica Seinfeld online and it is really good.

Gym session.

Oatmeal and apples
Grilled chicken, avocado, 1 piece of bread
2 zero carb tortillas, almond butter
Cabbage sauteed in turkey bacon (Called Haluski) with sliced apples
cherry and banana smoothie

Walked as was too sore from gym and the weather here is lovely right now. I've been dealing with zero energy (probably because I have to keep to a strict diet for gastritis) and I've ended up eating a nighttime smoothie too many times because I've been ready for bed right after dinner.

Two small wins: I went to my doctor Monday and I hadn't seen her since last December. She looked at me and said, "You have lost a significant amount of weight" and I wanted to both high five and hug her.

I spent way too much money over the weekend buying French lingerie. I've wanted to do this for quite some time, but was never comfortable with my body. I'm sure about 1/2 of it will have to go back- I had a breast reduction in 2021 and, for some reason, all measurements say I'm an (American) D when I'm really an American B.

But still...I'm calling it a win.

Runnr · 17/01/2024 17:48

Well done @MisshapenHat

Food for me today:
Poached eggs, mushrooms, wholemeal toast
Chicken salad
Oatcakes with peanut butter and banana
Bran flakes
Roasted sweet potato, peppers and cherry tomatoes topped with feta and parsley

Rent: weights session

Feeling pretty tired today and very much hoping I’m not coming down with a cold.

BattyOwl · 17/01/2024 21:24

Well done @MisshapenHat - lovely food there!

BattyOwl · 17/01/2024 21:24

@Runnr how you feeling now? There's so much going around at the moment

BattyOwl · 17/01/2024 21:27

I'm still keeping on with Louise!

Todays food ..

2 weetabix with protein milk, chopped plums and a banana

Sourdough sandwich with hummus and salad

Fruit salad + piece of brie

Roasted veg with feta and avocado

ElvenDreamer · 18/01/2024 17:53

Still here, hanging on in.
Today:
Yoghurt with bran
Handful nuts
Eggs and avocado on toast
Cheese on oatcakes
Dinner will be salmon and green veg

4k run this morning and it was COLD!

I am doing OK, but think I need to ramp things up soon. Not really losing weight but I have to be honest with myself and know that it's down to too much cheese 😄, need to get a handle on that!

ThinksALot · 18/01/2024 20:13

Evening all!

@ElvenDreamer - glad you're still hanging in there. I could eat brie all day, so I can't have it in my house (only at Xmas as a treat), or else I'd snaffle it all!

@BattyOwl - good to hear you're still following the method - I'm finding as I get into the swing of it, it's becoming much more natural and I'm making good choices without realising (hurrah)!

How are you feeling today @Runnr?

@MisshapenHat - how lovely that the Dr noticed your weight loss! It takes a lot of hard work to lose weight and it's always nice to have that recognised. Also, well done on treating yourself to the new lingerie!

I've had a good couple of days. I seem to have hurt my knee slightly, so I'm hoping I can do my gym session tomorrow. Week 3 weigh in tomorrow - I'm hoping for minus 2-3lbs.

Yesterday's food:

B: vanilla oatbran porridge
S: hummus and carrots
L: chicken salad
D: beef bridgend stew with veg (yum)
S: Hot choc from the book

Gym plus 8.5k steps (it was too cold to go out again in the evening for another walk).

Today's food:

B: vanilla oatbran porridge
S: oatcakes and hummus
L: chicken salad
S: Hot choc from book
D: four garlic bulb chicken stew and veg (was tasty but not sure it was worth waiting 2 hrs for)
S: (an extra one) - eat natural bar

10k steps

MisshapenHat · 18/01/2024 20:57

Can I ask how everyone gets in their steps? I rarely do...typically a MAX day for me is 8k, but that's usually when I am at work (I work at a university). Maybe it's because I'm in the US, in the suburbs, but 10k steps just never happens for me, even though I do go for a walk every afternoon, thanks to my giant goldendoodle.

ThinksALot · 18/01/2024 21:04

@MisshapenHat, I'm lucky to be off work at the moment, so it's easier for me to do it as I have more time to fit in walking.

I tend to walk 2000-4000 steps just doing daily chores in the house/nipping out to do errands etc, then the rest I have to make a conscious effort to do - going for a 60 minute walk usually does it. Today, I went for a walk with my husband in his lunchbreak (he worked from home today).

When I'm at work, I walk for about 45 - 50 minutes as part of my commute (from home to the train station and then from the tube to the office, and back again), so that's really helpful.

At the weekends, we tend to go for big country walks with the kids.

Is there a way you can incorporate it into your day? Parking further away from work and walking in or walking at lunchtime?

MisshapenHat · 18/01/2024 21:11

Hi @ThinksALot wow, that's a good walking part of your commute! I actually work from home about 90% of the time, so it is feast or famine for me. I think, like anything else, I need to make a more conscious effort. I live in the desert, so for about 6 months of the year, it is 100F/37C plus every day.

I guess...maybe start walking during the day some? If I brought the doggo on an extra lap, that would hopefully help some. Weight has stalled (hello, holidays) and I would really like to get rid of these last 2-3 stubborn pounds.

Anyone else, I'd love to hear how you get your steps in!

ThinksALot · 18/01/2024 21:17

Oh wow - there's no way I'd be walking in that heat @MisshapenHat!

Could you get one of those walking pads to use at home whilst you're working or on a break?

MisshapenHat · 18/01/2024 21:34

Oh, that's a fun idea! The doggo would probably go crazy watching me. When it is 110F/ 43C (and yes, we have at least a month where this happens), we tend to walk in the dark, worried we will run into rattlesnakes, coyotes, and javelinas. (Look them up. They're mean and, yes, they are in our suburban neighborhood.)

Runnr · 19/01/2024 11:11

@BattyOwl @MisshapenHat i am full of cold! I’m feeling a bit better so hopefully I’ll be fine by the weekend, just been sleeping and eating. Mostly on LPM - trying to make sure that they’re balanced meals although I did have cheese on toast for lunch yesterday inspired by the mini pizzas from the book and I definitely am going to have the same today! It’s nice bread and not much cheese. I actually hate being ill, I’ve got a race I’m supposed to be training for and this feels like such a set back. I haven’t had a cold for a really long time so I suppose that’s something.

@MisshapenHat steps wise I have just checked my watch and my 7 day average is 12,156. The days I run they are much higher. Today is at around 3,000 but on days I don’t run it’s closer to 8,000. I have a short commute and rely on my car and where I live we have similar temps in summer. It’s winter now though so it’s probably easier. I think the main way I get my steps in is by taking the stairs between meetings, a dog walk in the morning and then a shorter dog walk in the afternoon.

ThinksALot · 20/01/2024 07:59

Morning!

So yesterday's weigh in wasn't quite as successful as I'd hoped. Minus 1lb, so that's minus 8lbs in 3 weeks but it's probably a fair reflection given the mcdonalds and nandos! At least it's still a loss.

Yesterday's food was okay - I was out so grabbed lunch from Waitrose.

B: messy eggs
L: feta and quinoa salad with pea shoots
S: protein bar and diet coke
D: chicken burgers and slaw from the book (everyone liked this)

Think I need to be more mindful of portion sizes this week.

I hope everyone has a lovely weekend.
