It's me - Owl.

I lost access to my previous account so I cannot seem to find the old thread.

Shall we have a new one for 2024? Fresh start and all that?

I'll tag as many of us as I can recall!

Present! Fresh start for the New Year sounds good. I'll put a link to this thread in the old one in case there's anyone lurking who wants to find us.

Deliberating dinner now. I think it'll be something noodle based

OP posts:
RolyPolyBatFacedGirl · 28/12/2023 19:03

Made noodles with a homemade vegan peanut sauce and some red pepper, broccoli and edamame beans

So that's the end of day 2!

Also managed 10k steps today

I'm starting NY. I have the oatbran, peanut butter, oatcakes, frozen berries for oatbran, chickpeas and the good oils. I'm back to WFH most days as well so won't be tempted by the staff canteen and endless office treats brought in my other people.

I'd really like to learn some self control with food this year. I'm hoping as LP food is nice to eat I will resist the crap.

JanyewithaY · 28/12/2023 22:15

Thanks for the fresh thread @RolyPolyBatFacedGirl

I'm starting in earnest in the New Year. I had a night out over Christmas, when once again, I had to wear what fitted me instead of the outfit I would have loved to wear and I just thought, enough now. So, I'm stocking the cupboard and decluttering my bedroom and determined to make some sustainable change in 2024 ❤️

RolyPolyBatFacedGirl · 29/12/2023 10:59

@PlantsFallLikeDominoes good to hear you've got the GOOD oils. I must get the GOOD vanilla paste as Louise always says

RolyPolyBatFacedGirl · 29/12/2023 11:00

@JanyewithaY yes, I'm currently reaching for all my clothes with decent stretch in them!

Right, having thought New Year, I'm now starting today, had a day yesterday that was mildly out of control quite frankly and my body today is telling me how much I've poisoned myself, I feel quite rough and don't want to do this to myself anymore.

Breakfast was eggs with rocket and smoked salmon on one small slice of wholegrain.

Small handful unsalted nuts for morning snack.

In the last week have been trying to make little changes to both my morning and evening routine, evening in particular, to try and avoid those slumps where I make bad choices. Figure if I can get that feeling normal before the new term stress starts I might be in a better position to keep it up.

MisshapenHat · 29/12/2023 16:39

Hello everyone. I really just jumped (it wasn't a step) out of circle on Christmas Eve and Day. Woke up on boxing day feeling AWFUL, but that's probably having 2 very strong drinks plus all the cookies and some cake I made.

Am back in right now until we leave on NY Eve for my in-laws house. Nothing like a 5am flight (plus a layover) to try and stay on-method. I have a food allergy (dairy) and am having to eat low acid due to gastritis...which basically leaves me with oatmeal as the only food I can eat when flying. (I just looked up all the menus I could find for the Denver airport.)

We will be in the midwest in the US, which is terrifying when it comes to staying in circle. Will do my best.

Hang in there, everyone! Take it day by day and plan when you're going to step out of circle. I typically find it much more fun and enjoyable when I do it that way rather than the "what the hell" times when I just have enough.

Happy almost new years.

ThinksALot · 29/12/2023 19:16

Hi,

Please can I join you all? I've just started the LP method today, having done my prep week. I've got a long journey ahead, circa 7 stone to lose but the LP method really appealed to me because of the emphasis on making better lifestyle habits all round (night time phone scrolling is my worst)!

Today's food:

B: Turkish Scramble
S: Savoury Granola and fruit
L: Crunchy shredded chicken salad
S: one of those egg muffins
D: Chicken tikka masala with spinach and chickpeas

I've walked over 11k steps. A good first day so far and I haven't really felt hungry!

I've got the 2nd and 3rd books, is it worth getting the first? Are there lots more recipes?

PlantsFallLikeDominoes · 30/12/2023 13:00

@ThinksALot I don't think you'll need more recipes, I only have one book and tend to make whatever I'm cooking on plan. So low carb, high fat, no sugar, small portions and eat 5x a day with 10k steps and working out. There are some recipes I use, the pesto salmon, bircher but things like butterbean mash/chickpea burgers I make my way. Once you get the hang of the way to make a LP salad or meal you don't need the recipes just the components and add extra for dps/dcs. So if I did a chicken tray bake I'd eat the chicken and onions/peppers that cooked with the chicken, green veg tossed in olive oil and lemon juice and the dc would have some sweet or white potato wedges or a portion of rice. If I made a chilli I'd make my chilli like usual but dc would again have a carbs portion, I would have a wholemeal pitta to dunk in if I was hungry but would usual add natural yoghurt, salsa and an Avacado instead of the carb component.

I hope that makes sense.

ThinksALot · 30/12/2023 18:30

Thanks @PlantsFallLikeDominoes - that all makes sense, and good to know I can just adapt our usual recipes.

I'm gonna try a few of the family-friendly recipes with the kids - they loved yesterday's curry (just not the chickpea side, so they had rice) and they loved the beef stew tonight (the eldest ate the cauliflower mash but not the youngest but he did try it at least)!

I'm terrible for overeating, so I'm using the recipes for now to make sure I stick with the right quantities!

Today's food:

B: sweet Berry omelette
S: egg muffin
L: crunchy shredded chicken salad
S: savoury granola and fruit
D: beef stew, cauliflower mash and broccoli

Have managed a rather cold and windy 10k steps this afternoon with the kids.

I'm planning on stepping out of the circle tomorrow on NYE - we've got friends over for a Chinese but it'll just be for that meal and then I'll step back in. Not ideal within the first six weeks but if I waited for the perfect time, I'd never start. I turn 40 soon, so I've got lots of celebrations coming up.

How's everyone doing?

Any snack suggestions that don't involve fruit?
Also, it is okay to use regular semi-skimmed milk where she mentions soya milk? I assume soya milk has more protein...

RolyPolyBatFacedGirl · 30/12/2023 18:46

@ThinksALot

How about a slice of wholemeal bread with peanut butter? That's an on point lan snack. Likewise, small handful of mixed nuts, hummus with veg sticks, half a pizza pitta

OP posts:
PlantsFallLikeDominoes · 30/12/2023 19:54

I eat oatcakes with peanut butter or hummus as a snack. Or a boiled egg and a snall handful of nuts. My main snack unfortunately is a babybel or any type of cheese! I am a cheese fiend!

I'm really looking forward to starting again. Elven I also feel blurgh from over indulging in christmas food!

Hobbes8 · 30/12/2023 20:26

Hey old gang! Can I slink (well, waddle) back into the circle? I’ve re confirmed over Christmas that I can no longer tolerate bread/bread sauce/stuffing/pizza. I know I’ll feel much healthier with this way of eating.

MisshapenHat · 30/12/2023 20:48

I do a combo of using her recipes (I have all 3 books, used them nonstop at the beginning) and adapting. At this point, I know what I can and cannot adapt. I also have a few in a pinch meals-- omelet, whole meal toast and a piece of fruit make a yummy dish.

As for snacks, I second almond butter, though I like mine with apples.

JanyewithaY · 01/01/2024 10:26

Morning all and Happy New Year! I hope 2024 is good to everyone.

I'm starting my prep week today and have been thinking about my visualisation. I realised that while a slimmer version of me would be lovely, what I'm actually after is more and steadier energy and a feeling that I'm in control (as much as any of us can be) of my health.

So I see myself, in the Summer, being able to get out of bed in the morning without needing a cup of coffee, understanding how to balance my time and energy so that my family get the best of me and being able to say yes to the activities that my kids ask me to join in with ❤️ I'm also able to fit into my jeans and wear a vest top without worrying about how my tummy and arms look 😉

Today, I'm going to organise and beautify my bathroom and when the rain clears, we are going for a walk to clear the cobwebs.

Hope everyone has a lovely day

ThinksALot · 01/01/2024 13:13

Thanks for the snack suggestions @MisshapenHat , @RolyPolyBatFacedGirl and @PlantsFallLikeDominoes

So I took my planned step out of the circle for NYE and had a great time, but made sure I was in the circle right up until that point (B: vanilla porridge, S: egg muffins, L: leftover Bridgend stew with veg) and I'm now stepping firmly back in the circle today, despite the hangover! Think I'll make a batch of soup when I've mustered the energy. We're all still in pyjamas here, it was a late night!

ThinksALot · 01/01/2024 13:17

@JanyewithaY - Happy New Year to you too!

Sounds like you're gonna have a great prep week. My visualisation is very similar to yours; for me it's all about regaining some control over my health by making healthy choices for myself, and what I end up looking like is more of a by-product. I have terrible sleep apneoa and so I need to lose weight to hopefully improve this and get some much needed energy back!

How's everyone else doing today? Ready for a new start in 2024?

Hobbes8 · 01/01/2024 13:56

Happy New Year, lean gang! I’m hungover today which isn’t helping. I batch cooked some tandoori chicken yesterday, and I’ve got salad and smoothie ingredients all ready. I had scrambled eggs on GOOD toast this morning and haven’t fancied lunch, so I just need to stay away from the leftover crisps and cheese.

ElvenDreamer · 01/01/2024 14:39

Happy New Year all. Good start today with a 4.5k run.
Yogurt, bran, nut and the good vanilla paste for breakfast.
Oat cakes and half a banana snack.
Some leftover home-cured ham and salad veg for lunch.
Not sure on rest of days food yet. Having a blitz on the house currently and like you @JanyewithaY choosing some areas just to beautify a bit.
