January 2024! Fresh start & develop new habits. Join-in to reset & refresh and become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9st. I had a blip a couple of years ago when my thyroid went wonky but now back on track.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Well, after a strong start and losing over half a stone I have not dropped even a tenth of a pound in weight since a week ago! Still 13st 11.2lb.
However I did just run my first ever continous 5k tonight, so off scale wins is the order of the day!

PatienceOfEngels · 27/01/2024 07:52

January has definitely been a difficult month to stay on track or make much progress. I'm really proud of the 7kg I lost in the last 3 months of last year. I can feel the difference in my body and overall health.

Feel like I need to get refocused for February, stock up the freezer with soup for lunches, plan a little better, and get walking again in the evenings. Going to take my new bike out for a spin this morning with DC, then do some decluttering, make soup and get some yoga in.

B - boiled egg, rye toast, butter, coffee with milk
L -leftover rice with stir fried veggies
D - Roasted chicken, peppers, potatoes
S -finish up the fruit that needs using - satsumas, pears, bananas

MrsPepperpotty · 27/01/2024 09:14

Well done all on some lovely sounding menus and good progress in various ways. I'm proud of myself for running 8k yesterday and keeping roughly on track with food too.
B - porridge, banana, drizzle of maple syrup
L - scrambled eggs on toast
D - veg lasagne
S - little bit of posh chocolate

HighlandCowRose · 27/01/2024 11:35

I think I'm in a bit of a slump, Thursday I just felt blugh, everything just felt like so much effort, Friday I just wanted to EAT and this morning I absolutely didn't want to do a work out. (I did) I don't know what's happened to my state of mind, I felt so positive for the first 3 weeks.

TheRealHousewife · 27/01/2024 15:02

Afternoon All

@HighlandCowRose Thats reassuring. It’s better to be safe than sorry around the risk of developing chest infections 👍In regards to how you’re feeling … are you hungry? If I haven’t packed the nutrients in I feel hungry on less calories. Hope your mojo returns soon! Perhaps a short break would help in the long term.

@MrsPepperpotty Well done on getting an 8k in 👌

@PatienceOfEngels I agree January is a tough month. Days are usually short, damp, dark, wet & windy. It’s enough to make any of us dispirited and seek comfort via hot tasty foods and puds. Roll on Spring ☀️

@104c Absolutely well done on your full continuous 5k. Awesome 🙌

@afaloren Sending strength to help you resist temptation today 😬

Menu
Meal 1 - Mackerel on gf toast.
Meal 2 - Vegetable soup. Raspberries, pecans and 0% fage.
Tea, black coffee and water.

Hello all, just checking in.

Yesterday was a decent day - Friday's were always my downfall but I've tried hard to not go on a complete blowout and also stay away from takeaways!

B - coffee and a banana
L - tomato soup and a packet of crisps
D - broccoli and pepper stir fry
S - a pint of shandy (Friday night treat!)

Gemstonebeach · 27/01/2024 21:17

Had a bit of a blowout last night, went to the movies with a friend and she wanted to go for a drink afterwards. I stuck to the sparkling water but she also ordered chips and calamari for us to share and I couldn’t say no. Hoping it hasn’t set me backwards too much! My kids are back this week so will be eating a more carby evening meal with them but slow and steady wins the race, will stick to the meal replacement shakes for breakfast and lunch.

HighlandCowRose · 27/01/2024 21:43

TheRealHousewife no it wasn't hunger on this occasion just a desire to eat.
I'm wondering if it's hormonal, I don't have a cycle due to the contraception I'm on but I think I should start tracking my mood changes, lethargic days etc to see if there is a pattern.

Also I apologise if this tmi but I've noticed my sex drive has plummeted

L soya yogurt, granola & blueberries
D vivera 'salmon' fillet, new potatoes, asparagus, carrots and broccoli
S Graze, crisp, glass of wine, cherries & strawberries
E body project workout, walk

afaloren · 27/01/2024 22:36

Sneaking this post in under the wire! A weird day because I got up late and we went on a very long (and hilly!) walk so ended up eating breakfast afterwards, then DH wanted to eat dinner early because of friends coming round, so it’s been a bit hit and miss with eating times. Stayed under my calories though!

B - Dried apricots, protein yoghurt
L - Skipped
D - Bunless chicken cheeseburger with salad, chocolate protein pot
S - 3 babybel lights, some popcorn
E - Aforementioned walk, yoga.

Stayed off the booze and most of the snacks apart from the popcorn which I weighed and tracked! Halo

TheRealHousewife · 28/01/2024 05:43

Back pain and a numb leg woke me and now can’t get back to sleep.

Hi @HighlandCowRose No need to apologise, it isn’t tmi. I would have a chat with your gp. It could be hormonal, low mood depression etc. it’s amazing how everything is connected and generally symptoms don’t have only one cause. I hope you soon feel more settled and grounded. Another tasty menu 😋

@afaloren Sounds like a busy day! Well done on staying under your calorie target! Coincidentally I busted mine which is unusual but the day did follow a few lighter days. I think over the seven days I’m within range.

@ThreeRingCircus Well done on keeping away from takeaways 👍

@Gemstonebeach You’ll be fine I’m sure 👍 And if not it won’t be ‘real’ weight, just sodium based water retention.

Gemstonebeach · 28/01/2024 06:09

Back on the straight and narrow tonight! Dinner was bokchoy, broccolli, green beans, mushrooms, cashews and courgettes, stir fried with a little bit of soy and chilli sauce.

LumionaMoonsplash · 28/01/2024 07:46

I was so close to mega feasting last night due to hormones. The chocolate cravings have been horrendous and I really wanted some wine and pizza. I'm so proud of my determination though, everyone else had pizza, I had garlic salmon with veg and it was delicious. I found some 0% cider which felt like a real treat and yes I did have some chocolate and low cal lentil crisps, enjoyed them but no guilt felt. I'd had a big workout.
Another lb lost on the scales yesterday kept me on track.
I have a boozy night out on the cards next weekend which could be a problem. Can anyone help with low cal drinks? I usually drink very sugary drinks.

ThreeRingCircus · 28/01/2024 08:17

For lower calorie alcohol I usually stick to a single measure of gin with slimline tonic. My friend has vodka and diet coke when out which is also lower calorie.

I need to get back on track today. I had crisps, pizza and chocolate yesterday! I'm trying to acknowledge I had one bad day and not let it spill over into the rest of the weekend.

I've had breakfast (coffee, and date and walnut sourdough) and dinner will be roast chicken with lots of vegetables and sweet potato mash instead of roast potatoes. Not sure on lunch yet as we're going to a National Trust property for a longer walk so will probably get something there but most likely I'll have some soup and a pot of tea.

WeirdPookah · 28/01/2024 09:30

Not a great day yesterday, we needed to be up and out early, so did our usual "travelling breakfast" of rolls with egg mayo and veggie sausage. But the drive was a nightmare, so stressful aggressive motorway driving. We had a nice time out, but it was very few steps. Had coffee and biscuits after lunch when we got home as I was running on fumes, I know when I have extreme anxiety like that I need something with sugar to feel better. I used to feel guilty about that, but realise now I have literally used all my energy and need something fast.

B: egg mayo rolls with veggie sausage
L: tomato soup, toast with flora (very late lunch)
D: veggie haggis, neeps and tatties!
fruit cereal bar, biscuit curls

Today we are going to make the most of it not pouring with rain or blowing a gale, and walk to a kids party they are invited too, but it's over lunch, so the will get something, I'll have to sort myself late again.

B: banana waffles, coconut yogurt, mixed berries, cashew butter
L: probably cottage cheese with berries
D: broccoli, vegetable sauce, cheese

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 28/01/2024 10:12

Hello all, my birthday blow out lasted for days, but I feel zero guilt. After losing a younger family member last year, I believe birthdays should be celebrated guilt free!

So I'm going to get back on track this week, and get back on the exercise, which fell a bit by the wayside last week. I do have a meal out on Wed unfortunately, but social things die right down after that until later in February so that will help.

I'm not really expecting to have lost anything in inJanuary beyond my post Christmas whoosh, but we'll see what February brings.

TheRealHousewife · 28/01/2024 10:26

Good Morning Everyone

4 day count down to our final January WOW. Keep on it! You’ll be pleased you did ❤️

@WeirdPookah I know what you mean! I have grown to dislike motorway driving due to the aggression and just plain dangerous driving! And don’t even get me started on ‘Smart’ motorways!

@LumionaMoonsplash Well done on not caving and your loss! 👍

@ThreeRingCircus Enjoy your day out! Nothing like a bracing walk around lovely grounds and finish with a cuppa and soup 👌

@Gemstonebeach Tasty dinner 😋

Menu
Meal 1 - Home made chicken & leek pie with a gluten free lower carb crust. Cabbage, carrots & broccoli. Chicken gravy.
Meal 2 - Salad with fried halloumi & boiled eggs.
Tea, black coffee and water.

@WhatWouldTheDoctorDo Absolutely the right attitude! Life is for living and we’re a long time dead. I predict you’ll have a fabulous February 👌

Just a quick check-in to say I'm still plodding along. I also could have nose-dived last night into the wine & chocolate but didn't. I did have fish, chips & peas for dinner though, but being oven-baked supermarket variety, I enjoyed them guilt-free. Hope the morning Parkrun offset extra calories.

I'm really hoping to have lost another 1lb - or even 2lb by end of the Jan / WoW, so will be on it these next few days. Keep going everyone!

HighlandCowRose · 28/01/2024 19:17

Had a good day, did a resistance band workout first thing, felt I could do more so did a body project workout as well.
Walked to the supermarket instead of driving as I only needed a few things and dd was keen to go for a bike ride today.

B cocoa nib pancakes, with soya yogurt & blueberries
L crudités, sesame breadsticks with aubergine meze
D sage butternut risotto, with a green salad & 2 veggie sausages
S glass of wine, pack of crisps
E resistance bands work out, body project workout & walk

Thanks to ThreeRingCircus for the receipes 😊 both were delicious

TheRealHousewife · 28/01/2024 19:45

Hi @buzzofthebumblebee well done on swerving the chocolate and wine as well having an healthier version of fish & chips 👍

@HighlandCowRose Fabulous amount of exercise, well done! 👏👍

Well done to all the losses and keep going to all those with stubborn scales, sometimes those electronic buggers need a telling off!

I've been sticking to calorie count and my 2 exercise classes a week, also bought one of those cheap twisty disc things you stand on and swivel, figure I can use it while on conference calls as long as the video is off 😀

Weigh in tomorrow morning and am expecting about a 2lb loss this week if my sneaky peeks through the week are anything to go by.

HighlandCowRose · 28/01/2024 20:35

TheRealHousewife you are a one woman cheering squad, thank you 🙏

FlabMonsterIsDietingAgain I'm hoping for a 2lb loss tomorrow too, in my case based on absolutely nothing 😅

afaloren · 28/01/2024 20:55

Evening all.

B - Protein yoghurt, dried apricots
L - Went out. Had a very substantial halloumi salad and then shared a chocolate delice with DH
D - Just a protein yoghurt as still full!
S - None
E - 2 x dog walks, yoga

Good luck to those weighing tomorrow. I’m out tomorrow night for my delayed work Christmas do so will see what I end up eating and drinking!

AnnieCambs · 29/01/2024 06:27
