January 2024! Fresh start & develop new habits. Join-in to reset & refresh and become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9st. I had a blip a couple of years ago when my thyroid went wonky but now back on track.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Kids birthday party for DC2 yesterday so a few chips and deep fried snacks in the afternoon. Am up to date with YWA 30 days of yoga though (missed a few days so had to cram in 2-3 per day over the weekend). Am on track to finish it in january for the first time ever! It's helped me setting a fixed time in the evening. Before I would do it at different times depending on whether I was working/weekend and it made it harder to get it done on busy days. Now I've committed to around DC bedtime (either when 2 is getting ready or between 1 and 2) and having it as a habit has worked much better.

Today
-boiled egg, rye toast, butter, coffee with milk
-leftover chicken bhuna and rice
-spaghetti bolognese
-fruit, greek yoghurt and honey

Freezer is clean out of lunches for me so must make some soup tomorrow.

Ready for the final WoW of January - thought I hadn't lost anything this month but think I will surprise myself. Prepped for my new journalling focus for February. Will pick a new 30 day yoga series to keep going with.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 29/01/2024 07:33

Well done @FlabMonsterIsDietingAgain and good luck to anyone else weighing in today.

@PatienceOfEngels good work on YWA, do you notice a difference in flexibility from when you started. I really need to add something to the mix to improve mine.

A sneaky look on the scales shows me up almost a pound since Wed, but I've got two days before my official weigh in so will hopefully claw that back.

It's amazing the impact of a couple of days off track does. I feel so tired and sluggish. But back to exercise and healthy eating today!

LegoTherapy · 29/01/2024 07:43

Morning all. Shuffling back in for the end of the month. My heads not been in it and I had a bad health scare just over a week ago that sent me to A&E and I've just not had the head space for weight loss. New medication is making me bloated and sending my blood chemistry haywire so I've had to adjust my diet until I have repeat bloods on Thursday. Until then I'm restricted on what I can eat so I'm going to be living off porridge and yogurt and berries and cherries until I know the blood results. Those last 4lb might go if I'm lucky. 66.75 kg this morning., really want to be 55kg and change for this time next week when we go on holiday.
Hope everyone is doing well. I'll catch up later today.

HighlandCowRose · 29/01/2024 08:01

LegoTherapy really sorry to hear you've had a health scare.
I had one before Christmas, found a lump, thankfully it was a cyst (not asking you to say what yours is)
Sending ❤

Had a fantastic result this morning 5lb off.
Going to temper my expectation for next week now. I usually stay tge same or even gain after a sudden drop.

Sw 15st 5lb
Cw 14st 7.2lb
This week 5lb
Total loss 11.4lb

Well done FlabMonsterIsDietingAgain and good luck to those still to weigh

Welcome AnnieCambs

maybein2022 · 29/01/2024 09:26

Morning all. Finally the final Monday of January!

Hope everyone is doing okay.

Weigh in today, -2lb so that takes me to exactly 1 stone off in 4 weeks 💪. Delighted with that!

My next goal is to lose 4lb which will take my total loss since the end of 2022/beginning of 2023 to exactly 4 stone.

ThreeRingCircus · 29/01/2024 09:35

That's an amazing loss @HighlandCowRose (and I'm glad you enjoyed the recipes! 😁)

Sorry for those that have had health scares 💐.

I've signed up for the Cancer Research UK walk 100 miles in February challenge and am currently focused on that. It should be doable as it's walking on average 3.45 miles a day but I thought it would be good to have a goal and also raise money for a good cause. I'm doing the challenge with my sister after we lost my aunt to pancreatic cancer last year.

Focused again today as I didn't feel great after going off track on Saturday. My stomach was really complaining and I'm sure it was the sudden change in my eating!

Today's plan:

B - just coffee
L - greek yoghurt, raspberries, blueberries, honey and flax seeds.
D - chicken fried rice with loads of vegetables as I have leftover chicken from yesterday's roast dinner.
S - planning some kombucha as that's really helped me stay off the weeknight alcohol!
E - I'm currently at the gym on the exercise bike 😁

CumbrianExile · 29/01/2024 10:12

Morning everyone. Checking in for my Monday weigh in and its a 1lb gain for me.

SW 15st8
CW 15st6

My Grandma died last week and my MIL was in and out of hospital in Ireland so it was a week of worry and upset. MIL does seem to be on the mend now, and we have booked flights to visit soon. Luckily, I meal plan, so my meals were ok, but there was a bit too much snacking and vodka consumed. So, I am ok with the gain, and in a 'new me' state I am back on track this week. Snacks and vodka are out the window.

Congrats to everyone who has weighed in and lost today! @LegoTherapy sorry to hear of your health scare. Hope your blood chemistry settles soon.

WeirdPookah · 29/01/2024 10:36

@LegoTherapy I'm sorry things have been hard for you.

Ok, so confessional time, we ended up with a chinese takeaway last night. I had a bit of a meltdown after the party, after the driving on Saturday, then noisy party, I just ended up losing it, even with the exercise of walking to and from party, my brain melted and I was just shut down. So my lovely smalls said they would have beans on toast (which they LOVE I just feel it's a cop-out) and my husband, who has also had a rubbish week or so, had a takeaway.

This morning I felt a bit full still, so I didn't have breakfast, only coffee, had some cherries now I've got home from shopping in the pouring rain. Trying Lidl's soya milk, saw in the leaflet it had won some BBCfood award, and it didn't separate or curdle, so pretty impressed.

B: coffee
L: bagel thin, cucumber, low fat cheese, smoked trout
D: mango almond chickpea korma, cauliflower
cherries

PatienceOfEngels · 29/01/2024 10:52

@WeirdPookah I had a kids birthday party yesterday and it drove me round the bend. So loud, was anxious before as well and felt like I spent the whole weekend waiting for it to happen (and not looking forward to it!). Glad it's over now.

ImALittlePea · 29/01/2024 14:56

Where did that weekend (and my motivation) go?!

No point dwelling on more dubious choices being made. Trying once more to dust myself down. 1/2 stone to go, ish, I just don't feel motivated at all at the moment.

Having said that... Started the week on track:
L - cup-a-soup special (minus houmous), followed by greek yoghurt with chopped banana and a drizzle of honey
D - looking like it'll be baked potato, cheese and mushroom omelette and a side salad
E - dance class this morning, and working tonight so 4-5 hours of steps instead of sofa!
S - none so far

Trying to remember to drink more water, too 😬

Sending hugs @LegoTherapy and others who need it. Life can be really tough sometimes ❤️

Flowerchild547 · 29/01/2024 15:06

Well done to those who weighed today.

Sorry to hear of those who are struggling at the moment, I hope you have the support you need.

My sneaky peeks at the scale this weeks have not made me feel positive for weigh in on Wednesday. I have been up and down the same lb since last weigh. I’ve felt like I’ve done pretty okay this week and I’ve tracked everything so will be disappointed if no loss. Have to remember to persevere.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 29/01/2024 16:58

Sorry about your health scare @LegoTherapy and also for your loss @CumbrianExile

Just popping in to post today's menu

B - boiled egg and toast
L - home made spring greens soup. Was too busy at work to have anything else with it
D - Thai spiced noodles with cod

Exercise - summoning motivation to do a strength class
Snacks - yes, I just don't know what yet 😬 But I've had a very low calorie day and will be ravenous after tea.

TheRealHousewife · 29/01/2024 17:56

Afternoon All

Welcome to the three @AnnieCambs … you can tell me about your Gold if it’ll help 😬

@LegoTherapy Sending a massive hug and warmest wishes. Here’s hoping you’re soon back to full health! ❤️

@CumbrianExile Sending condolences 💐

@WeirdPookah You do right! Sometimes you just have to roll with it ❤️

@ImALittlePea The last half stone is always the worst! I nearly got there last year and bounced back due to illness/meds. Really want to get there this year and for it to stick!

Menu
Meal 1 - Mackerel stuffed red pepper on bed of spinach. 2 boiled eggs.
Meal 2 - Home made gf chicken pie, carrots, green beans, cabbage & gravy.
Tea, black coffee and acv in water.

2 days left ladies … let’s make them count :)

Ha ha thank you so much @TheRealHousewife ! And well done to all who've battled out until WI.

I started strength training and eating well end of December. To improve mental well being - due to burn out. Loving the strength training! Mindset has improved massively, come such a long way. Or it would have been dopamine and serotonin from a bottle!

According nhs BMI I need to get another 20 pounds off and be around 9st 7 for my height. Had a Brill fast keto day today!

AnnieCambs · 30/01/2024 06:04

Good morning all,

I do plan to read more of the thread today and get familiar with you and your journeys. Hope you all have a wonderful WOE day today 😊

Im still learning how to navigate this thread - Im using it on Web browser so it's quite glitchy and annoying.

Not sure of meals today, haven't planned 😕

Allthegoodnamestakken · 30/01/2024 06:54

Hello All,

Still plodding along here, I braved my own scales today and it really wasn't to bad 67.1kg which is a lot better than the 70kg at the doctors. Clearly my clothes and boots weighed more than I thought. So goal now is to get back to 65kg which I had managed to maintain for almost a year and then give it another go at getting to my target of 62kg. I just couldn't drop below 65kg last year and ended up frustrated and giving up which I think it why I gained. I remember someone posting something about needing time to adjust to a new set weight before loosing again so will keep that in mind.

This week I have managed to get the intermittent fasting to 11am, next week will be my full fast to 1pm.

Have loved reading all your menus, mine is
mid morning snack - Some dates, Oats and nuts (snack size not breakfast size portion)
Lunch - Soup (whichever flavour I pull out the freezer)
Dinner - Going to a cheese and wine night at a friends house so not very healthy but I will only be drinking one glass of wine (perks of a current medication is that its forced me to stop drinking)

If you could all cross your fingers for me that next week the physio clears me for exercise. After a bad horse riding accident last year I have been unable to exercise for almost 5 months and went from 4 hard workout classes, 2 x hour rides and daily dog walks to nothing overnight. I have been doing small amounts of walking and gentle yoga etc. but hoping I am cleared for some more cardio next week. It will really help the weightloss efforts!

sheepdreams · 30/01/2024 07:36

Dear all

jist catching up on your posts. Congratulations on the weight losses inspirational. My dear dad is really poorly so diet has gone off the radar this week. I’m going to try and get back on it today doing IF. Will there be another thread following January’s?

ThreeRingCircus · 30/01/2024 08:01

🤞🏻 for you @Allthegoodnamestakken and @sheepdreams I hope your dad is ok.

I understand the worry, I had a call yesterday that my mum is in hospital. She's ok thank goodness but I live 5 hours away and had a meltdown last night to DH as I'm sick of living so far away from my parents as they age and their health declines. But our life, work and DDs' lives are here and uprooting them isn't fair either. I feel like either way I lose in this situation.

Sorry, that turned into a bit of an essay! But I hope you both get good news soon.

I ended up eating my feelings yesterday so am being really strict today to balance it out a bit. Tuesday nights are always quick dinners as DDs have swimming after school.

B - coffee
L - greek yoghurt, berries, honey, flaxseed
D - eggs and tomatoes on sourdough

PatienceOfEngels · 30/01/2024 09:27

B-boiled egg, rye toast/butter, coffee
L- soup (going to make some vegan scotch broth)
D - chicken casserole, mashed potatoes, broccoli
S - 2 satsumas

Morning walk done. Yoga this evening.
Done some errands (booked some theatre events to look forward to) and admin. Settling down to do some work before more admin/housework. Last week i sabotaged myself on the Tuesday by eating poorly just before weigh in (with food that really wasn't worth it!) so hoping to keep myself focused for a final weigh in tomorrow.

Sorry to hear so many people struggling with health issues or worries about loved ones. Will definitely be a February thread @sheepdreams

shearwater2 · 30/01/2024 09:43

Weighed in this morning and lost 2lbs - though in the context that I gained 6lbs in December to last week, couldn't get going with it properly until last Tuesday.

SW 12st 9lbs
CW 12st 7lbs
GW 11st 0lbs

Today:

Breakfast - black coffee and water
Lunch - Hot smoked salmon, avocado, celery, cucumber and cherry tomatoes
Dinner - Jacket potato with prawns, Marie Rose sauce and salad

1000 calorie day today, also Thursday.

TheRealHousewife · 30/01/2024 10:37

Good Morning Everyone

I wrote out a post this morning for it to go ‘poof’ into the ether. I’ll try to replicate but second time around is never as good 😬

@AnnieCambs You're welcome. You’re making good progress towards your goal. Strength training is also one of the better things we can do for ourselves 👌

@HighlandCowRose Tasty menu you posted 😋

@afaloren I think you managed your Christmas do marvellously … did you wear party hats/have Christmas Crackers or have anything Christmassy going on 🥳

@Allthegoodnamestakken It’s great you’re starting over. Please try to not get discouraged by slow or lack of progress. I’ve been losing over 6/7 years. In that time I’ve lost a solid 50lbs 👍

@sheepdreams Yes there will be a new February thread posted soon! I hope your dear dad feels better soon ❤️

@ThreeRingCircus Sounds tough ❤️ 💐

@shearwater2 Well done on your recent loss 👍👏

Menu
Meal 1 - Scrammbled egg and chopped salad. Pecans.
Meal 2 - Peppered creamy mushrooms on GF low carb toast.

Tea, black coffee, ACV in water.

Sending thoughts, condolences, inner strength and get well wishes to everyone who needs them. Life dishes out its share of tough times when we least expect / deserve. Essential when times get tough for us to think of our own needs too (health, nutrition, self care etc etc) as we juggle care for DC's, elderly / sick parents, work etc. It makes us stronger and more fabulous, than selfish. WeirdPookah · 30/01/2024 10:38

It's not raining! The wind was cutting like ice, my ears are still hurting despite a hat, but the sun is out and I went for an hours walk, finally. Not had a decent walk in ages.

B: black bean burrito
L: mushroom sauerkraut pierogi and cabbage
D: minestrone
