January 2024! Fresh start & develop new habits. Join-in to reset & refresh and become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9st. I had a blip a couple of years ago when my thyroid went wonky but now back on track.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

ImALittlePea absolutely, I had what felt like a measly ½lb Loss this week and was disappointed but decided to focus on how I feel which has been really good, better mood, not having headaches, more energy. Except for this morning when I just felt a bit sluggish

Flowerchild547 · 25/01/2024 17:57

So I’ve decided to have a roast tonight on complete impulse as I saw M&S had a deal on and I just love a roast.
However I won’t be going overboard and I am going to have mainly veggies rather than potatoes so small victories 🤣

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 25/01/2024 18:15

Thank you for birthday wishes, I did pop on the scales this morning @buzzofthebumblebee and only 1/2 pound up on last week, so that wasn't too scary. I'll let it settle down for a few days before a proper weigh in though. Interestingly after being restrained on the alcohol front theses last few weeks - I probably had the equivalent to a bottle of Prosecco last night over a long period, and I felt grim for it this morning, like I'd had a good boozy night. I'm not pretending a bottle isn't a lot, but it was over maybe 6.5 hours, with food, so I really wasn't expecting to feel so rough this morning. I did have a sugary snack to help me power through the day, but I didn't go overboard!

NothingTraLaLa · 25/01/2024 19:52

Well done to all of you who are keeping on keeping on.

Slightly late with my WOW this week, and a minuscule loss of 0.2lb - but at least it’s a loss. I’ve felt rotten this past week with a cold plus PMS which manifests in a desire to stuff myself with carbs and/or cheese, but I have been more restrained that I wanted to be.

Since starting back in May, I’ve managed to bring my waist down from 31” to 28” - as I’m 5’0” (on a tall day) I’m pretty happy with this but it’s far from flat so I reckon there is more to lose.

SW: 128 lbs
CW: 117 lbs
TW: 114 lbs

HighlandCowRose · 25/01/2024 20:13

A slightly sluggish start to the day, not sure why, then an ill dd, followed by a painful wait to speak to hmrc after being cut off the first time, all in all a trying day.

B seeded toast with hummus & boiled egg
L roll
D Butternut dahl, spiced roasted cauliflower, black pepper mushrooms & smoked tofu
S crisps & glass of wine

Really enjoyed dinner this evening 😋
Also used up my calories today

sheepdreams · 25/01/2024 21:21

@TheRealHousewife Thank you for the warm welcome, encouragement and words of wisdom. I really appreciate it.

afaloren · 25/01/2024 21:27

Evening all. Another day on plan here.

B - Protein yoghurt, banana
L - Beans on toast
D - Mackerel with broccoli and green beans, protein yoghurt
S - 3 babybel lights
E - 2 x dog walks, yoga, step class.

Step class was tough tonight! I just kept thinking about weigh in tomorrow haha.

sheepdreams · 25/01/2024 21:34

@buzzofthebumblebee Thank you for the welcome and sharing the changes you have made, they sound great. I eat quite healthily apart from when my sweet tooth alls and cool a lot from scratch but my portion sizes have become far to big so need to address that too. I’m also not great at drinking water which I need to work out. I do have some herbal teas but don’t love them.

ThreeRingCircus · 25/01/2024 22:34

It's been a funny day today food-wise. I was so busy at work I didn't have time for a lunch break and so ate at my desk and consequently was starving when I got home and ended up with a weird concoction for dinner. No exercise today whatsoever either.

I'm under my calories for the day but am really noticing today that I don't feel great and that's probably because I've only been at my desk in the office, in the car or slumped on the sofa! And my dinner was a weird assembly of things from the fridge and cupboard 🤣

B - just coffee
L - greek yoghurt with flaxseeds, raspberries
D - cauliflower cheese, beans, new potatoes

Allthegoodnamestakken · 26/01/2024 04:52

Hello all, useless at keeping up as life has been hectic. Back in the needing to loose wagon as the doctor weighed me as 70kg on Monday and it shocked me. I was fully dressed so probably a bit less really but I can’t believe I’ve got there after sitting at 65kg for basically a year.
It was the kick up the bum needed to get going again though. Plan is

  • intermittent fasting
  • seriously reduce alcohol consumption
  • work on getting my portion sizes down again
  • removing the snacks and puddings that have creeped in back to a weekly not daily treat
afaloren · 26/01/2024 08:58

WOF and I’ve lost a pound. Hey ho I thought, I did go out for that meal. But DH, who ate more than me at the meal, has lost FIVE POUNDS this week. I could spit!

This week - 1lb
Since Jan 1 - 9.5lb

So the next week starts. I’ve got two meals out this week so probably won’t lose anything next Friday! Ho hum.

TheRealHousewife · 26/01/2024 09:04

Good Morning :)

That’s a great result considering your Birthday celebrations @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo 👍

@NothingTraLaLa We are the same height. Well done on reaching 28inches; I’m hoping to get my waist back in the 20’s by Spring 👍. Well done on your loss too!

@Allthegoodnamestakken Sounds like a plan! Well done on getting on it sooner rather than later. You’ll soon be in your happy zone 🤞

@afaloren Well done on keeping to plan and completing your step plan! When you mentioned you were thinking of weigh-in whilst exercising reminded me of Danny Deveto in Twins (I think) when he was exercising like mad to lose a stone in a day 😂

@sheepdreams You're welcome 😊

@HighlandCowRose Hope your dd is feeling better!

Menu
Meal 1 - Home made veg soup. Scrambled egg on gf toast with spinach.
Meal 2 - Chicken, carrot, broccoli, cauliflower, red pepper, red onion & carrot tray bake. Avocado and cream cheese dressing.

Tea, black coffee and water.

@afaloren Well done on your loss! Men can be so infuriating sometimes! Their muscle to fat ratio is higher which helps them lose more quickly than women. Some men can lose the weight of a small child just by taking a dump 💩😅

Morning. I forgot about weighing until I'd had a huge glass of water 🤦‍♀️ but stepped on anyway and actually only a couple of oz up. So I may well have sts if I had weighed empty - which I'd definitely have taken! I'm not logging it as a proper weight but will weigh on Wednesday next week for an end of month view.

Out for lunch and dinner today - and going to enjoy it! Have a lovely Friday everyone.

rainbow616 · 26/01/2024 09:15

So weighed in this morning:
SW 13st 5lbs
CW 12st 12lbs
GW 11st
I'm really happy with a half a stone loss so far this month!! 11st here I come!!

WeirdPookah · 26/01/2024 10:40

Weighed in today, lost 2.8lbs this week!

20.5lb down since Jan 1st
62.4lb down since starting over.

It's so flipping WINDY still, I walked on our street instead of the prom to get the potatoes I forgot. But I haven't had a decent long walk all week. At least it's not pouring sideways now!

Just had 2 police officers at our door asking to see footage from our CCTV cameras on the house, so that was fun. Something to do with the shady characters in the flats round the corner.

B: cannellini bean burrito
L: vegetable and bean curry
D: lentil bolognaise, broccoli, cheese

TheRealHousewife · 26/01/2024 10:53

@ImALittlePea Enjoy your meals out ! 😋

@WeirdPookah Fantastic weekly result as well as overall progress. Well done! 👏👏👏I hope your cctv could help the Bobbies 🚓

@rainbow616 Fabulous result! 👏👍

I started the NY st my heaviest so I've had to start again! I'm still heavier than my starting weight last year so I'm going to "officially" start when I'm back down to it, hopefully in February! 🤣🤣

TheRealHousewife · 26/01/2024 14:16

@Karatema Why not just start afresh now? Bite the bullet 😬

Thanks TheRealHousewife she didn't go to school today, she's got an appointment today at the respiratory clinic

LumionaMoonsplash · 26/01/2024 14:43

I'm still tracking my daily weight, it is very slowly dropping. I've had a few days where I've forgotten to eat until about 3pm and some days where I'm craving chocolate like crazy. I'm pleased it's going in the right way but more than anything I'm utterly amazed by how much I've grown to love the Gym. I actually crave it now and get upset on days where I can't get to go. From a former couch potato who was lucky to reach 2000 steps per day, this is incredible. My BMI has gone from 35 to 32, more than that, my size 20 clothes are falling off me and I'm back in my size 16's.

HighlandCowRose · 26/01/2024 20:16

I've been trying to eat more of my calories
earlier in the day as part of my meals but it's backfired a bit today cause I'm having one of those days where I want to pick pick pick.

B seeded toast with hummus, boiled egg, blueberries,
L curied parsnip soup, slice of bread, smoked tofu, banana
D veggie burger, roasted Mediterranean vegetables with spinach & beetroot salad
S square of chocolate, crisps, glass of wine.

TheRealHousewife · 26/01/2024 20:44

@HighlandCowRose How did your little get on today at the clinic? I hope they helped your situation! PS lovely menu you posted 😋

@LumionaMoonsplash Sounds like you’ve turned into a proper gym bunny 🐰. Well done! Nice NSV too 👍👌

afaloren · 26/01/2024 21:25

Happy Friday everyone!

B - Protein yoghurt, banana
L - Lentil and bacon soup, clementines
D - Cod and chorizo fishcake, sugar snap peas, chocolate protein pot
S - 3 babybel lights
E - Dog walk (DH did the morning one so I could have a little lie in), yoga, kettlebell workout

So I’ve stayed on track. Tomorrow may be something of a challenge as DH has friends coming over and asked me to buy snacks for them. I have, and I haven’t been tempted today, but I might be tomorrow when they’re all munching!

HighlandCowRose · 26/01/2024 21:29

TheRealHousewife she was given the all clear, I was worried it had turned into a chest infection but they said they think she's just caught one virus after another, bless her heart, she's been coughing so hard she's been vomiting.

I have enjoyed today's food
