Can I join? I'm on a big health kick and desperately need to lose weight, it seems disingenuous to join a normal WL thread when I'm on medication to help.
I'm on tablets rather than the jab (cheaper) and wow! They are working an absolute treat, no hunger, lots of energy. I'm 9lbs down in 1.5 weeks.

What is it called please? Is it mysimba?

OhSmitty · 08/11/2023 16:46

It's phentermine. I have to take it daily rather than a weekly jab and is costing me £120pm instead of £300pm for ozempic/ wegovy. The clinic is Bodyline.

Borntobedifferent · 08/11/2023 22:56

Day 1 done.

I'm not sure if it's had any effect at all as I can't decide if my symptoms are real or just through anxiety.

Woke up with a bit of acid reflux and that has stayed all day, not terrible but noticeable.

Then my stomach has been in knots all day but in a nervous way.

I've eaten less than normal but mostly because of this nervous energy I'm feeling.

At least I'm not sick so that's a major plus and will just keep plodding along from here

LovelaceBiggWither · 08/11/2023 23:39

OhpoorMe · 08/11/2023 13:29

How do you cope with this? It really puts me off as I have a job where randomly throwing up would be a tad problematic 😂

I don't work and it's pretty rare. I did get a script for zofran. It doesn't happen to everybody.

Superlambaanana · 09/11/2023 07:21

@LovelaceBiggWither many thanks for that useful advice. I'm only on week one so will see how I go.

I have been thinking I shouldn't need to go up to the highest 2.4 dose because my BMI is only just over 30. In other words I've been kidding myself that I'm 'not that bad'. But I am. I need to lose 3 and a half stone to get into the 'normal' bmi range and seriously change my relationship with food, particularly sugar or I'm looking at an early death.

There I said it. I've been avoiding thinking about how much I need to lose and the consequences of not doing it because it seemed so totally, impossibly out of reach before.

I'm on day 6 now. Have had a particularly busy last couple of days so haven't had much time to think about how I feel hunger-wise. Have been eating normal portion sizes (miracle), very few biscuits/ sweet stuff (miracle) but feel I have been eating when not hungry which is obviously what I need to tackle.

I've had no side effects like vomiting or nausea. But I have had a couple of loo-issues. It definitely slows passage of food. And there's been a 'trickle' effect. Trying to be diplomatic here, but basically a bit of leaking from bum. Nothing that has made me housebound or anything and it's not like I'm having random hot sex with anyone so not a big deal but certainly wouldn't like it to be permanent.

Gingerlygreen · 09/11/2023 08:20

@Borntobedifferent Is the nervous feeling you're describing like a mild queasiness because if so that's exact how it affects me.
It's not awful but enough to curb my appetite and I was feeling the effects within a couple of hours of taking the jab.

I think it's hard to know what to expect because everyone describes their symptoms differently but as long as it's made you want to eat less then I'd say it's working.

Helene2019 · 09/11/2023 13:34

A possible side effect I'm getting within the first couple of days of the injection is insomnia/sleep disruption. But I don't know if it is just general anxiety / stress contributing to it. It happened week 1 and week 2 for me on Wegovy. I'm also getting floating bits of nausea but not to the point where I'm sick or anything and it's not regular or everyday. I will have to investigate if it nausea is associated e.g. when I eat a high fat food like cheese.

But mid way through week 2 and my weight is stationary. I hope that I will lose at least 1lb by Sunday!

Shewhobecamethesun · 09/11/2023 16:24

Struggling a bit today (day 9) as I feel really light headed and dizzy. I presume this may be from the lack of calories - I tracked for 2 days and was around 1000calories both days, but I'm just not hungry to want to eat more.
Has anyone else suffered from this?

Lovesthebeach · 09/11/2023 19:04

Hi everyone, hope you’re all having good weeks? I’ve found this week a bit harder to be honest… I’ve felt hungrier 😩 so it’s been more of a fight to not give in to a binge….

@Helene2019 I’ve noticed my sleep isn’t great and I’m having quite vivid dreams…

@Shewhobecamethesun I haven’t had any dizziness or light head ness… maybe your blood sugar is a bit low from less calories?

@Superlambaanana eeeek that doesn’t sound fun. On my first week my tummy was a bit dodgy a couple of times but seems ok so far this week. So fingers crossed it’s only temporary!

221BBakerSt · 09/11/2023 21:11

Hello, can I join you all?

My first pen should be here tomorrow, I have 5 stone to lose if not more. Could I ask, are people finding it best to be low fat for intestinal issues? Or are full fat versions of yoghurt etc generally ok?
I’m definitely feeling positive but also nervous

Superlambaanana · 09/11/2023 21:12

@Lovesthebeach I'd say it will just take us all a while to get used to this so I wouldn't worry about some fluctuations in hunger. Hopefully overall it will be a net loss.

Not glad to hear you had tummy problems, but glad to hear you had tummy problems and that they've gone. I'm hoping this will pass too. I don't really want yo take a laxative as I assume some of the slow bowel movement is part of the way it works to reduce hunger and keep us feeling full more easily and for longer.

Superlambaanana · 09/11/2023 21:15

Welcome @221BBakerSt. I just started last Friday with my first 0.25 dose. So far have averaged about 1,000 calories per day and I haven't massively changed my diet. Have had toast with butter and some biscuits. No chocolate or takeaways or anything really unhealthy. But I haven't just been eating lettuce either. But I've had a slightly runny bum and would like to overhaul my diet as part of this journey.

221BBakerSt · 09/11/2023 21:32

@Superlambaanana hi, thanks, yes I think really coming to grips with our relationship with food and healthy food choices is key to long term. I lost 10 stone a decade ago and was certain I wouldn’t put any back on, and to be fair I didn’t for a while but low carb didn’t help me work out portion control and it quickly went back out of control!

Tomorrow’s food plan is oats, berries, chicken, green veg, boiled new potatoes, and maybe a bowl of vegetable broth.

OhpoorMe · 09/11/2023 22:20

I have a question for those who talk about it 'quietening the noise'. Do you mean physical hunger or the emotional need for food?

Like many I overeat from emotions or boredom , and I'm not sure this can help with that?

tarziew · 09/11/2023 22:46

@OhpoorMe I take it to mean cravings.

I started today and from experience I’ve stocked up on All Bran and prunes because I got quite bunged up last time.

Do NOT allow yourself to get constipated! I've never read anywhere that having a full bowel helps with satiety but ozempic constipation is to be feared. Impaction, ileus...

It's just thinking about food that seems to have gone.
I used to spend all day thinking about food and what I was going to eat next as a snack, and when, or lunch and dinner. I'd spend the morning looking forward to my break time and then lunch time, and I'd spend my afternoons looking forward to my dinner. In the evening I'd be thinking about what snack I could have once the dc were in bed. Just all the time.
Now, i am literally forgetting to eat. Food doesn't cross my mind or have any interest to me unless my tummy is actually rumbling and even then it's just what can I have to make it stop. I am frequently forgetting to eat, as even when I notice myself get hungry I'm like - I'll have something once I finished the job I'm doing, but then I find another job to do and then another and before I know it 2hours have passed, I'm still not eaten and actually have to force myself to stop and eat.

You know when skinny people say they just forget to eat and us fatties just look and think "how on earth do you just forget to eat?!" like they've just grown an alien head? Yeah, it's that.

For me I usually think about food non-stop, I have such strong cravings that I can't resist & eat when I'm stressed. That's all gone, I still think about food but more out of habit, there is no 'pull' to eat constantly.

RachBakesCakes · 10/11/2023 07:21

I'm just wondering, what are people typically eating in a day?

I'm struggling to determine which foods to eat giving that I'm eating so little. I want what I do eat to be healthy & nutritious. I don't tend to snack on fruit other than bananas but love veggies & savoury foods. I don't eat meat so trying to find good protein sources.

OhSmitty · 10/11/2023 08:34

How are you getting on OP? @Gogodonu

I'm back at the clinic tomorrow for my first check up and next batch of pills. I'm 10lbs down in just under 2 weeks. No real side effects so far. Last weeks insomnia lasted a couple of days but not an issue any more.

Like others have said removing the thoughts of food have been incredible. Eating smaller portions and considering nutrition every time have been a game changer.

WeGoveyd · 10/11/2023 09:51

Hey, does anyone mind if I join? I started Wegovy this morning - 0.25mg.

Current weight is 13 stone 13.

Desperate to lose weight, im so unhappy in my own skin and can't find a way out of this unhappiness! I have PCOS and Fibromyalgia.

So yesterday I ate:
Breakfast - cereal bar
Lunch - mini wrap with spinach, cucumber and tomato, garlic mayo and an apple
Dinner - baked potato with beans and cheese
Snacks - handful of Percy pig tails and handful of prawn cocktail wotsits

That's a very typical week day. Today I've had the day off though and have eaten a cereal bar, an apple and a McDonald's chicken sandwich. Don't know what dinner will be yet,

OhpoorMe · 10/11/2023 16:26

Are you all resigned to staying on it permanently? I've been reading up today in preparation of starting but I hadn't realised it's a long term drug, and can't justify the cost for ever! I'm also really out off by the statistics that most people gain the weight back when they stop, and lots of people gain it back plus more! I want to believe I'll be the one who doesn't but my life does not work that way Grin

Superlambaanana · 10/11/2023 17:43

Thanks to the person who advised me not to put up with the slow bowel movement. It's a good point. I'll get some dulcolax or whatever tomorrow.

Re whether it's long term. The studies have shown that as soon as people come off it they put the weight straight back on unfortunately. So it is expected to be forever. But a) no one can afford that except the celebs and b) the shortages mean that the pharmacies are only prescribing to those of us who are obese. So when we lose the weight they're going to have to cut us off. Which is all very depressing. I'm hoping to build in some lifestyle changes and buck the trend of regainers ( despite the knowledge that this is v unlikely given the large scale studies Ive read) and that perhaps something else will have been developed by the time i lose the weight that has a long term impact without the need to continue the medication. Probably also wishful thinking I'm afraid.

The regain rates are no worse than for those who lose weight by any other method. Keeping weight off is very hard. I won't stay on it forever but will come off it very carefully and be poised for battle to keep it off 😅
