Schools are returning, most holidays are over and Autumn is fast approaching; A perfect time to re-set the mind, outline goals and affirm intentions. There is definitely a cool nip in the air!

Another new month to initiate a fresh start to become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to stay healthy, lose weight as well as those who wish to maintain; to encourage a healthy & varied diet and to exercise.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9st 3lb. I had a blip a couple of years ago when my thyroid went wonky but now back (mainly) on track. I Would love to wave bye to another half a stone 😬 The main thing is to never give up! Keep going!

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

PS - Positive thought:- If you were to lose on average a 1lb per week you’ll be at least a stone lighter by Christmas 🎄

Thanks @TheRealHousewife for the new thread. I'll be back on Friday ready for the countdown to Christmas.

WeirdPookah · 29/08/2023 19:19

Going to weigh-in tomorrow and see the damage from holiday. Hoping it isn't too terrible.

Can't believe it's September soon, running the gauntlet of Christmas food begins in the stores now...

Weatherwax13 · 29/08/2023 20:07

Thanks for the new thread @TheRealHousewife ✨️
You're a legend.
Wed Weigh In for me and I've clawed my way almost back on TW. Two days of 20:4 provided a much needed reset so now I'll continue with my previous method 16:8 which suits me well until the recent event threw me out of whack.
I'm dealing with so much and I don't need to add to that misery by undoing my achievements. 17kg down since January.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 29/08/2023 20:30

Hello! I have been MIA since the spring. Sadly lots of personal things and a bereavement to deal with.

However, I'd really like to get back on track - I've more or less maintained my weight thankfully but exercise had gone out of the window,

I am going away for the weekend, which will hamper food and drink moderation but I plan to get LOTS of steps in which will hopefully make up for it. Then back to calorie counting next week to shake off my final half a stone or so.

HollyGolightly4 · 29/08/2023 20:46

Oooh I like the sound of this. I was so on track before summer, lost over a stone and a half. I've tried to be mindful ish over summer, but it's involved a lot of meals out etc!! I'm not too disheartened, I am looking forward to the new term to get stuck in again, I just need to navigate lunch time when it's cold, as I was relying a lot on leftovers.

I'm trying a combination of intermittent fasting, calorie counting- tracking on mfp- and 5:2.

Great to have you all on board again @JustACountryMusicGirlInCowboyBoots @Weatherwax13 @WeirdPookah @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo

Sorry to hear about your bereavement @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo 💔. You can join me in the ‘lose 1/2 stone club’ 👍

@Weatherwax13 Thank you. You’ve done all the hard work! 17kg down so far this year is awesome 👏

Welcome to the thread @HollyGolightly4 . Homemade Soup is excellent during the colder months (or anytime really 😬) Your tag looks familiar, have you been a member before?

I don't think so 🙈 thank you for the warm welcome though 😊

Whoevenknows79 · 29/08/2023 21:28

I'd like to join please. I'd like to get rid of the extra stone I'm carrying before Christmas to get back to my pre covid and pre baby weight. I'm planning on just trying to eat more healthily and drink less wine. Not following any specific diet.

Bomblette · 29/08/2023 22:28

Please may I join too? Looking to lose the stone I put on after quitting nicotine in the Spring. Annoyingly, quitting has made it harder to lose weight, so what has worked in the past for weight loss doesn’t seem to be working now. I will be counting macros as I have heard good things about it.

On the plus side, stopping nicotine has given me bags of energy, so have established a consistent exercise routine for the first time ever 💪

wiltingflower · 29/08/2023 23:04

I'd like to join this! I need more accountability, I keep on trying to join threads like this or follow in the background and diet/exercise but it's a lonely slog! Company and me checking in more often would be great! So far I've tried to maintain my weight over the summer, but really struggling with exercise. I'm doing a fitness app daily and trying to get 10k steps in, so far have a streak of a couple of weeks. I'm dreading work properly starting again in the next couple of days because it'll be harder to exercise but that's why I'm here! I'd like to lose a kg a month and if I can do that or gain a waistline I'll be happy.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 29/08/2023 23:26

Thanks for the welcome back @TheRealHousewife !

Bomblette · 30/08/2023 07:19

Bah. Weighed in and have not lost anything. Strangely disappointed even though I’ve only been at this two days 😂

@wiltingflower a kg a month sounds sensible. I think that’s what I need to keep in mind, I’m in this for the long game.

Frozentinkerbelle1 · 30/08/2023 07:42

Hi
I'd like to join - heaviest I've been.
My anti depressant is causing me to have bigger appetite so need to get control.
Looking for tips and healthy options if poss.
Starting weight is 12st 10 (want to be around 10st)
Thanks

OrangeSpicedBun · 30/08/2023 08:38

I'd like to join. Terribly overweight, less exercise as wfh and just diagnosed Pre-Diabetic and Anaemic. Been changing my diet slowly over past year. Need to up my game. Need to do 16:8 most days, eat more veg and reduce carbs. Energy is low and so is mood at present so.a bit difficult.

fedupofbuilders · 30/08/2023 09:11

May I join too please.
Just 'Wednesday Weighed' at 70kg - would like to loose 10kg before Christmas. Should be doable.
I'm following: reduce/cut out ultra processed food, no snacking and limit alcohol to celebrations. It allows me 3 decent meals a day. I might add in 5:2 when it suits.
My daughter is getting married next year, the thought of the wedding photographs being around for ever is a great motivator!

NothingTraLaLa · 30/08/2023 09:17

Thanks for the new thread @TheRealHousewife

Roughly back to my pre-holiday weight now and religiously logging my meals on the Zoe app.

SW 128 lbs
CW 124.4 lbs
TW 119 lbs

HollyGolightly4 · 30/08/2023 09:21

@fedupofbuilders that is a great motivator! I like how you've chunked it into small pieces too.

Season 2 Losing Weight GIF by The Simpsons

Good Morning You Lovely Lot.

@HollyGolightly4 You're welcome. I’ve obviously mixed you up … some names are very similar 😬

Welcome to the thread @Bomblette @Frozentinkerbelle1 @OrangeSpicedBun @Whoevenknows79 @wiltingflower No matter how much people have to lose, these threads are very supportive. The members are lovely and I’ve never seen a harsh word posted. For the ladies wishing to lose a stone … that’s very doable in the next few months.

@OrangeSpicedBun You can definitely reverse your pre-diabetes status and improve other health markers. If you’re not familiar already look up Dr Michael Mosley. There is another chap too but off the top of my head I’ve forgotten his name.

A few pointers for New Members:-

  • Plan you meals.
  • Ditch the processed foods.
  • Eat whole foods and prepare from scratch (if time)
  • Eat protein at each meal.
  • Include fibre.
  • Use healthy fats such as olive oil.
  • Log your foods; MFP has a free version.
  • Drink water.
  • Get quality sleep.
  • Exercise if you can.
  • Be consistent.
  • Don’t sweat it if you go off plan, just get back on it.

Welcome to the thread @fedupofbuilders We Cross-posted. You seem to have got your head around what you need to be doing and you’ll to kill it 👍 Are you a name changer or a new member?

There 2 Days left for August to be on point and make a difference 👍

WOW
01/08/23 - 9st 7lbs.
30/08/23 - 9st 4lbs
Loss - 3lbs

Ive been on point this month. Very little alcohol, 1 or 2 drinks I think. Stopped using as much butter. I’ve been cooking scrambled egg in a little boiling water which is a don't knock it before you try it methods. I actually prefer the taste too. In fact butter is too buttery now. I’ve not been tasting the food whilst cooking as often and use the tip of my smallest spoon rather than the usual shovel 😬. I can’t say exercise up as I’ve had quite a bit of back pain. Intentions for next month is to move more!

We can do it!

WeirdPookah · 30/08/2023 09:51

I weighed in today to see the aftermath of holiday, 4lbs up, which means I ending August at the same weight I started it. School holidays, plus another week away have been difficult to manage.

SO, my total down is back to 54lbs down since January.

Planning out a freezer restock of Autumn/Winter things, batch cooking lentil bolognaise, rice/lentil mix etc but need to eat some bits to clear space.

Actually been out for a walk today. I truly hate the summer heat, but the relentless rain isn't fun either, so had too few walks which is my main exercise.

Karatema · 30/08/2023 12:46

Posted on August 🙄
WOW today is 75.8 kg.

Won't repeat today's August post except to ask has anyone done the Zoe Plan?

TheRealHousewife · 30/08/2023 13:00

@WeirdPookah In other words you’ve maintained for August which considering the holidays etc is fabulous. You’ll soon be back in the groove 👍I generally try to lose a bit before holidays/celebrations to give me some wiggle room for living the good life 😋🥳

@Karatema August thread is still ‘live’ but it’s fine to post on either. I’ve posted my results on the August thread myself. I really wanted to do Zoe. I was on the pre-launch waiting list for a couple of years. However when my time came I was disqualified from partaking due to being celiac, although the ‘muffins’ for the actually test are gluten free 🤷‍♀️ I even emailed Prof Tim Spector 😬 He said no. I’ve read excellent reports on how helpful the testing is and learning how food affects you personally is. I’ve read mixed reports about general communications and the app interactions etc. It is also expensive. That said I’d still do it if allowed.

I weighed in today:
CW 173lb
TW 158lb

I feel hopeful but also like I've been here many times before over the last year. I also feel a bit confused about food as have done so many different diets all with different rules. Sometimes I find myself feeling carbs are bad or not wanting to eat a banana because of the carbs. I want to break this and just approach everything with moderation. Only think off limits is mindless binge eating!

Hi @Whoevenknows79 You've hit the nail on the head and also learnt that 'diets' don't work. They really don't. On a very basic level it is a case of taking less calories in than you expand on energy going about your day. (I know health conditions, meds, muscle mass, quality of sleep, disability etc can affect rate of loss). It really is about finding a way of eating that you enjoy and is sustainable whilst creating a calorie deficit. Me personally do not ban any foods other than foods that contain gluten (celiac). I also have a natural preference for whole fresh foods and have time (mostly) to prepare from scratch. The pointers I posted earlier might help give you some ideas. Hope this helps x
