Schools are returning, most holidays are over and Autumn is fast approaching; A perfect time to re-set the mind, outline goals and affirm intentions. There is definitely a cool nip in the air!

Another new month to initiate a fresh start to become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to stay healthy, lose weight as well as those who wish to maintain; to encourage a healthy & varied diet and to exercise.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9st 3lb. I had a blip a couple of years ago when my thyroid went wonky but now back (mainly) on track. I Would love to wave bye to another half a stone 😬 The main thing is to never give up! Keep going!

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

PS - Positive thought:- If you were to lose on average a 1lb per week you’ll be at least a stone lighter by Christmas 🎄

Sorry that should be DS's mystery rash that I was calling the Dr about, not nap (above). This is why we don't multitask!

@ImALittlePea I'm not very good at keeping the alcohol to weekends only. I also always want a 3rd glass of wine, because 2 don't quite hit the spot. I sort of worry one day this will become 4 glasses... So I think not drinking at all, or just for v special occasions, is sadly the right thing to do.

JustACountryMusicGirlInCowboyBoots · 05/09/2023 20:36

Checking in ready to hit the reset button tomorrow when both dc are back at school. I've walked 23,000 steps today which is nothing to write home about but ok for getting back k into the swing of things with one dc back at school today.

I don't drink except for knock off Baileys st Christmas. Apart from the health issues I'd rather eat those calories plus alcohol has a tendency to lead to poor choices with food. A night out drinking always required chips from the chippy in my youth. Or chips in pitta bread at uni. Carbs and fat were always my go to and I'm not even talking a lot of alcohol either-a couple of pints maybe. There's a few alcohol dependent relatives in my family, or rather was, and I tend to steer clear except for the knock off baileys at Christmas 😁

I'm looking forward to getting back to my usually routine tomorrow. I've had a great day out with my Dd today and we had a couple of treats.a last hurrah of the summer. Ready for autumn now and lots of soup and stewed fruit.

I'm not weighing until I've been back on track for a week but I hope everyone gets s great WoW tomorrow.

Kazziek · 06/09/2023 06:29

So, SW is 86.45
GW 82.0

Bomblette · 06/09/2023 07:00

Checking in - I’ve lost 2 lb according to the scales, so happy with that.

I’m with @DearRose on the alcohol front. I’m not great at moderation, so I’m taking September and possibly October off.

LemonDrizzle23 · 06/09/2023 07:20

Another one here who doesn't really drink all that often. Which I suppose is good for me, but does mean the pounds aren't going to start falling off when I give up the booze - more like when I give up the co-op salt and vinegar crisps...Grin

First weigh in today - 97.5kg. First goal is to lose 5%, which is just under 5kg, so let's say 92.5kg.

SW: 97.5kg
5% goal: 92.5kg

School starts back today, so I will have some time to myself - determined to use it. Good luck to everyone weighing in.

JustACountryMusicGirlInCowboyBoots · 06/09/2023 07:41

Ugh, this getting up mark is not fun. Green yogurt, cherry and raspberry compote with honey and chia seeds for breakfast. I'm planning on that for lunch too. I had a sneaky fully clothed weigh and have gained about 3.5kg over the summer and am now around 57kg. I'm horrendously bloated from eating so much processed food so I'm looking forward to eating better and of course the daily walking will help. I'll be clocking up about 12 miles today as it's a work day. It's going to be hot do Will be hard going up those hills but satisfying all the same
Have a great day and remember lots of 🍾

OrangeSpicedBun · 06/09/2023 07:45

Great news @Bomblette ...another low drinker here...everything seems to spark a weird reaction in me since I became 40 odd.

Last week I was 232lb this morning 229.5lb

I'll use that as my SW. I'd like to loose 23lbs by Christmas 😜

Good morning fellow 'improving our health and well being' folk.
SW - 70 kg
CW - 68.9 kg
I'm an 'all or nothing' person, so I can cope with no alcohol - but struggle with a little....which leads to a little more......which leads to Walkers cheese and onion crisps!
I feel so much better (energy wise) when I cut out/reduce Ultra processed food. The sensible version of me understands that this should be a forever decision.....we shall see.
This week I have had 2 days - OMAD - they just fit into my schedule and I don't feel restricted at all. I really struggle giving my partner more of the main meal than me - so this is a really good option for me. I don't calorie count and steer clear of 'low fat' options.
I weigh every day and am using the KG option as they are just numbers - I am keen for a downwards trajectory. Can anyone recommend an Ap that I could use to plot my loss on a graph? Hope you're impressed with my positive thinking.

JustACountryMusicGirlInCowboyBoots · 06/09/2023 09:01

@fedupofbuilders happy scale is brilliant and free.

Whoevenknows79 · 06/09/2023 09:17

SW 173.4 lb
CW 170.4 lb
TW 158 lb

Down 3 pounds which I'm happy with. Seems alcohol is an issue for a few of us. I'm trying to limit to the weekend and not use it as a daily treat. I toy with giving up completely sometimes, but I really do enjoy it and it's a big part of my socialising.

NothingTraLaLa · 06/09/2023 10:00

Morning! Happy to report that I’m a pound down since last week’s weigh-in.

I’m doing the Zoe programme and making sure I log all my food and trying to get the best “score” for the food I’ve had that day. It does make you reconsider when you are thinking of having a snack! I imagine a tiny Tim Spector on my shoulder giving me the side-eye if I think about having a bag of crisps 😄.

SW 128 lbs
CW 123.4 lbs
TW 119 lbs

WeirdPookah · 06/09/2023 11:11

@DearRose I don't drink much, I have a cider to watch Eurovision (but didn't even this year as hadn't been well) and will have Baileys at Christmas @JustACountryMusicGirlInCowboyBoots it's obviously irresistible! Other than that I don't drink, I never have to be honest.
Which had endlessly been weird having to explain I don't drink, seems to make people uncomfortable. Nor do my inlaws stop offering me alcohol after all these years.

Weighed in today, 2lbs lost this week.
Total down 56lbs

Been for a walk, too hot, supposed to be even hotter tomorrow. I hate the heat.

B: Kidneybean burrito
L: Broccoli, chinese takeaway leftovers from freezer
D: Dry vegetable lentil curry, naan

Bomblette · 06/09/2023 13:19

Thanks @OrangeSpicedBun - well done to you too!

Good to see some other low drinkers - nice to have some company!

OrangeSpicedBun · 06/09/2023 17:42

So many pounds lost 👏!

It's weird with the drinking thing. People get so offended lol. I'm a coward and sometimes just have tonic or sparkling water ..easier to disguise than a pint of coke. I don't drive so don't have that excuse.

PieFaceAndLovingIt · 06/09/2023 17:55

SW: 17 stone 10 lbs 😱
CW: 17 stone 5 lbs 😉
TW: 11 stone 7lbs 😅

ImALittlePea · 07/09/2023 07:28

Morning! Well done to everyone who weighed yesterday - some good losses being posted! Keep going everyone 💪

@Whoevenknows79 I'm the same - I know it can be problematic for me, but I also ultimately enjoy it and it's part of my social life... as things are. I am quite settled with not having any wine during the week and limit it to weekends, although this tends to slip in the holidays.

@wannadisc0 I hope you're feeling better soon!

Yesterday was a good day for me 😀
Lunch - cup-a-soup special (for those who aren't familiar, this is my go-to midweek lunch; a cup-a-soup with a plate of cucumber, pepper and tomato, dairylea triangle, some thin crispbread and a spoonful of houmous if I have some)
Dinner - small baked potato with butter and cheese, a cheese and ham kiev and peas
And... NO SNACKS OR LEFTOVER CHIPS OR THAT BEER I WAS OFFERED AT WORK! WAHOO!

Today's plan:
Lunch - cup-a-soup special again 😁
Dinner - mac and cheese, hopefully with a salad for me if I get a chance to run to the shop. Will try and swerve the garlic bread 🤞

Feeling hopeful about my weigh in tomorrow, keeping that in mind when it comes to choices today! Have a good day all 😊

JustACountryMusicGirlInCowboyBoots · 07/09/2023 07:58

Morning all! 13.6 miles walked yesterday in that heat including mowing 2 lawns and some big hills. 1368 calories eaten so day 1 was a big success. Today will be about 12 miles, tomorrow about 8. Breakfast today was porridge with chia and syrup. A bit warm for porridge but I'm out of fruit compote.
It's going to be another hot day today and that helps with the water consumption. Don't forget yours 🍾

Whereisthewine · 07/09/2023 08:04

Morning all! 13miles is incredible!!! I can only dream, I'm struggling to hit10k steps daily never mind more 🤣 been at the gym every day either a class or a workout, eating been pretty much on track although have woken up very hungry today for some reason..will try the gym again today but really need to up my step count, find walking so boring despite music and podcasts, any suggestions on how to make it less boring welcome!

ColdPillow · 07/09/2023 08:25

Hi everyone, I’d love to join if that’s ok. It’s been great reading everyone’s stories and the support on here.

I recently had a miscarriage at 13 weeks and put on a lot of weight in the 1st trimester. As part of looking after myself in the aftermath, I’m trying to lose the weight gradually and feel more like myself again. I put on a fair bit of weight with my first pregnancy (have a 3 year old) and never quite lost that last 5kg, so it’s all accumulating!

l’m quite short (5 foot 2) and any extra weight shows easily so I’m feeling quite self conscious at the moment and don’t fit into any of my clothes. Hoping to fit into my jeans by Christmas and get my confidence back!

SW- 61kg
CW- 59.2kg
GW - 52 kg

DearRose · 07/09/2023 13:21

Hello! Interesting to hear about everyone's relationship/approach to alcohol, thanks for sharing! I find that I can't just keep it to weekends only, it spreads to evey night (even if that means just 1 beer). Like others I've definitely found in social situations people get offended if you turn down an alcoholic drink, like you're letting the team down! Has made me uncomfortable in the past, but I think I'm getting to an age where people would question it less? ...plus it seems to be more acceptable generally. I know a few young people who don't drink, which would have been seen as weird when I was at uni 20 years ago.

Great to see everyone's updates.

I got the new job! Toot toot. The stress of waiting for the outcome and then giving notice made me really want a big bar of chocolate... Interesting that's my brain's response to stress these days. Hopefully that will change if I stay off the sugar.

Think I've lost about 1kg (a week in) but not sure as I bought new scales at the weekend. So will do my Wednesday weigh next weds based on the new scales.

Trousers already feeling slightly more comfortable hooray! I think I'm less bloated too.

ImALittlePea · 07/09/2023 13:21

Very sorry to hear about your loss @ColdPillow please be gentle with yourself ❤️

It's too hot here for cup-a-soup 🫠 so I had the veggies and a bit more houmous, no cheese or crispbread... but I may have finished a last of a bowl of magic co-op salt and vinegar crisps that I found in the larder 🤦‍♀️

Extra water for the heat and salt now!

DearRose · 07/09/2023 13:26

@ColdPillow sorry to hear that. At 13wk is rough. I had an ectopic pregnancy last autumn, it's not easy x

JustACountryMusicGirlInCowboyBoots · 07/09/2023 15:16

@ColdPillow Flowers and welcome to the thread.

ImALittlePea · 07/09/2023 16:57

Congratulations @DearRose on the job!

My willpower has totally vanished this afternoon!! A combo of it just being too hot, the kids being overly hyper for how hot it is, and our evening routine being disrupted. I'm actually pleased for the disruption as I've missed some downtime at home with the family, but I'm overtly aware it may well lead to a pizza and some wine. Hopefully not as I was feeling positive about my weigh in tomorrow, but I've already semi accepted that it will.

Will update later on 😬🤞
