⭐️LOSE IT! JUNE 2023 SUMMER SIZZLER⭐️

Summer is here and holiday time is upon us! A new month provides the opportunity to embrace a re-set and refresh to become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose as well as those who wish to maintain; to encourage a healthy & varied diet and exercise.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9.5st. I had a blip a couple of years ago when my thyroid went wonky but now back mainly on track. Would love to wave bye to another half a stone 😬

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Feel free to share your own links, tips & recipes!

Morning All, checking in after a crazy week travelling for work and a busy weekend. Weighed myself this morning and i'm at 67.1kg still 1.5kg heavier than I was a few months ago but at least the trajectory is now going down again!

Goal for June is to get down to 66kg flat, that feels achievable! although I have quite a few work travel trips lined up, making it harder.

Welcome to the newbies!

rockingbird · 05/06/2023 08:50

Morning all, one back at school one still in bed for the second week of double half term.. I had a day off fasting yesterday, ate what I wanted and stopped at 9pm and I'm back to my 20/4 fasting window. I need to keep strong and focus!! Happy Monday to you all x

TheRealHousewife · 05/06/2023 09:20

Good Morning
@greenspaces4peace Great to see you’re getting with it again. When I’m on it seriously I need to weigh as I find it impossible to accurately eye ball portions. It’s really easy for me to inadvertently sabotage my efforts if I relied on eyeballing.

@rockingbird Planning in daily exercise is an excellent way to move more and get minute count up. Good luck. Is your eating window the 4 of 20/4? Just interested, not judging.

@DownUdderer No you’re not being daft. It’s always a worry when children are poorly and you’ve experienced where it can lead in your daughters case. Hopes she fighting fit today 🤞

@Lifeisntadressrehearsal Welcome to the thread and well done on your progress to date! Great going!

Hi @ElfDragon Welcome to the thread. Seeing a loss should aid your motivation to keep going. Well done on your progress to date.

@Allthegoodnamestakken Sensible goal that, definitely achievable!

@AutisticLegoLover Cheese and broccoli soup sounds lovely! One of my favourites I make is a vegetable soup with added rice/quinoa/beans or minestrone pasta shapes. I chop veg small and don’t wiz it. I do add a cornstarch slurry to thicken. Actually it’s more like a thick stew 😬 Come courgette season I make a lighter soup - courgette & tarragon. This is wizzed.

Menu
Meal 1 - Mushroom Omelette. Apple
Meal 2 - Home made lasagna and salad. Strawberries & Greek yogurt.
Tea, black coffee & water.

Exercise
Session 1 - 10 min yoga
Session 2 - Hand weights

Happy Monday all!

A typical weekend over here, back on it now. Felt very bloated this morning but not surprised at all after throwing all caution to the (very strong) wind.

Lunch: 3 x ryvita with sweet chilli houmous, tomatoes, cucumber and peppers
Dinner: making a chilli tonight, unsure whether we'll have it with rice or bakers
Going well on the water front so far, too.

On a list writing mission today, the feeling of overwhelm is starting to rise again. Need to get my jumbled head out on paper so hopefully I have a bit more clarity and motivation.

Have a good day everyone 😊

Was126orbustandmaybebust · 05/06/2023 14:33

Hello all
A lovely week with DD's but both have flown - literally in the case of one and figuratively in the case of the other - so back on the straight and narrow again.
Will have a good day today and a decent walk after work and weight in tomorrow.

ThreeRingCircus · 05/06/2023 14:52

Morning everyone! I'm looking forward to getting back on plan this week after a busy half term and lots of socialising. It was lovely and I needed it but I need to get back into a routine.

Menu today:

B - coffee
L - protein yoghurt and a banana
D - pasta bake with loads of tomatoes, onion, peppers, mushrooms and courgettes

ThreeRingCircus · 05/06/2023 14:53

Exercise wise I've done an hour or so of digging in the garden today and will do a walk after DDs are in bed and DH is home from work.

greenspaces4peace · 05/06/2023 18:12

@TheRealHousewife for me it's the snacking, the "extra's" the add in or add on's. the occasional large canadian size bag of potato chips (crisps), the 1/3 lasagna pan coffee cake over the course of the day "just checking if it's cooked in the middle, moist, if the flavors go well together, having a piece with dh, neighbor" some of my mistakes are super obvious, add in the occasional bag of candy (i love gummy candy).
so far 5 days in the right frame of mind.
about to take the pups for a walk and an bike ride before it gets H O T
water bottle filled up
multivits taken
breakfast just over 200 calories
lunch and supper planned.
weekly goal set
morning weigh in 150.2, first goal under 150 then to creep back down the 140's.
normal BMI is 141 lbs that's my ultimate goal weight (to get there and stay there).
@ThreeRingCircus i have good sized garden and just yesterday needed to plant a few more seedlings in; swiss chard (my current 4 plants are struggling), a few wax beans (poor germination rate from the package), and lettuce gifted to me by my neighbor (might need to shield these from the sun). the seedlings survived the night.

TheRealHousewife · 05/06/2023 22:00

@greenspaces4peace I understand. It’s surprising how the extras soon add up. Congratulations on being in the right head space the past 5 days. It isn’t easy shaking of the snack dragon 🐉.

@ThreeRingCircus Gardening can be vigorous; excellent workout 👌

@Was126orbustandmaybebust Hope you’re ok and not too lonely missing your offspring ❤️

@ImALittlePea Im a fan of list writing … it’s completing them that’s problematic 😬 Hope you have a calmer day tomorrow 🤞

Thanks for your thoughts @TheRealHousewife I am very pragmatic and if they are happy then I am happy too. DD1 is in PICU this week so in her element and DD2 is getting settled with the highlights thus far being a trip to Walmart and a first aid course.
I allowed myself a little sniff of each of their pillows as I was making up their beds but that is the only indulgence I have tolerated.
I'm back on the stright and narrow again and had a long walk tonight to kick start things agin.
@ThreeRingCircus nothing better than a bit of garden digging to get your heart rate up and woke out every muscle in your body.

greenspaces4peace · 06/06/2023 06:12

Positive thoughts everyone.
Day 5 done.
water, multivits, no snacks, and exercise.

Weatherwax13 · 06/06/2023 06:33

Just checking in. Results of the waistband test are positive so far. It's a bit odd not having scales after 5 months of daily weighing but I'm getting used to it.
I haven't denied myself anything but I've been mindful of eating just the things I'm actively enjoying. So yes, this fish is lovely but that pile of chips is just boring so I'll leave them.
Leaving UK for France tomorrow and I cannot wait. Staying with MIL means I'm only minutes ftom where my son died and I loathe this place to the point that i feel physically ill here. To add to the fun, MIL's mask truly slipped yesterday and she was vicious to me. I've been like some kind of Mary Poppins for the geriatric since I've been here so she can get stuffed frankly.
26 hrs till I cross the Channel. Not that I'm counting.
Off to catch up with everyone else's posts now, see how you're all going:)

ginsparkles · 06/06/2023 06:54

Good morning.

Not much to report here. But thought I would pop on and reinstate the daily chat with you all to keep the motivation which is lacking hugely!

So todays plan. Long walk with the dog, then a mountain of housework. Lunch and read my book for a few hours. Then take DD to the pony for a couple of hours this evening.

Food wise...
cereal this morning
Savoury rice for lunch
Jacket potato with beans for tea.
Aiming to keep busy to keep the snacks at bay!

Allthegoodnamestakken · 06/06/2023 07:12

@greenspaces4peace Snacking is also my downfall, a quick mid morning biscuit or afternoon slice of cake etc.

@Weatherwax13 have a good trip back and hope you enjoy being at home again.

Plan for me today is fasting until 11am, usually I do one but I am having some bloods taken and don't want to faint at 11.30am so will have a cereal bar or something.
Lunch- undecided
Dinner- Roast veg wraps with home made sweet chilli sauce

ThreeRingCircus · 06/06/2023 07:46

Snacking is my downfall as well as my meals are often decent but I could add hundreds of calories a day in snacks. The only thing I've been able to do to control it is go cold turkey I'm afraid as if I have e.g. grapes after dinner it was too easy for me to get used to eating again after dinner and those grapes then becoming biscuits, or chocolate. Personally I find it easier to just not snack so my habit is that I don't eat after my evening meal. Although I do allow myself something once a week, usually on a Saturday as I do really love chocolate 🤣. What works for one person though doesn't necessarily work for another so it's just finding what works best for you.

I don't eat breakfast usually (I'm just not hungry first thing in the morning) and try to stick to two meals a day. At the moment I'm keeping it very boring as I'm trying to get back on plan so having the same lunch every day (fruit, greek yoghurt and protein powder) and then just a sensible dinner with DDs. Tonight it's baked sweet potatoes with vegetable chilli.

ThreeRingCircus · 06/06/2023 07:48

And yes to gardening being a good workout! I've got a lot of weeding to do that I've been putting off as it's my most hated gardening task but I'm going to tackle it today and view it as exercise time.

Tessisme · 06/06/2023 07:49

Hi, I'd really love to join! I have been doing 16:8 intermittent fasting since the middle of last week and have lost a couple of pounds. I'm currently 11st 10lbs. I carry a ridiculous amount of weight around my waist and stomach and just feel generally sluggish. I've had a lot of stress in my life recently and just feel I want to get the weight under control, since there's never going to be an ideal time. I need to get to about 10st to be a size I'm happy with. I might play around with how I achieve this as I haven't completely decided that fasting is for me, but I desperately want to get the weight off.

Bikechic · 06/06/2023 08:07

Welcome @Tessisme .Thats the same goal weight at me. I'm only a little bit further on the road towards it.
Thought I'd join with thoughts on snacking. I don't find it too difficult to resist the obvious ones (cake or biscuits). Some catch me by stealth. A bag of cashew nuts already open and I'll just have a 'few'. Bit of cheese while I'm cooking. Convincing myself something is not a snack, it's part of my lunch. Leftovers!!!!!
Solution- no snacking in evening at all. If I have one bit of cheese and biscuits with dh, I will have 4.
Look it up on mfp before eating it. Puts a delay in and makes sure I've thought about it.

TheRealHousewife · 06/06/2023 08:33

Good Morning

@Weatherwax13 No words 💔 Sending a hug. 24 hours and counting …

@Was126orbustandmaybebust Bless, I totally get the need to comfort sniff.

@Tessisme Welcome to the thread. Stress can be a right diet buster. It affects the hormones which can surpass any motivation you might try to muster up. Are you able to do anything to counter the stress? Totally agree with @Bikechic about tracking on mfp. I use my mfp as a planner whereby I enter my intended menu for the following few days. That way it takes the need to obsess about what to have away. I also make a point of cleaning and closing the kitchen after my last meal. I’m lucky in that I’m not a snacker but do have a calorie light dessert after one of my meals. If you do intermittent fasting or not ultimately it is cals in versus cals out. Although we all know there are other elements to take into account when it comes to weight control (sleep, hormones, meds, stress, body type, exercise, food intolerances, sugar levels, gut biome) Food wise, if time allows, prepping from fresh is better than processed foods. You’re doing the right thing, which ever way you’re doing it and good luck.

@ThreeRingCircus Thats the way to see any household task … extra exercise minutes. Make sure to do it with gusto 😬

@ginsparkles sounds like an ideal day! Especially seeing the pony!

Was126orbustandmaybebust · 06/06/2023 08:47

@Weatherwax13 God bless you. Only 24hrs now xx
Weighed in at 128.2lbs this morning. Not as bad as I thought but oh my it goes on faster than it comes off😡and that's after a day of very careful eating yesterday.
So must stay focused today. I hard boiled some eggs last night for an easy quick lunch today - onward and inwards!

ginsparkles · 06/06/2023 08:57

@TheRealHousewife ... the pony and the dog are my fav parts of the day! We are currently showing DD how much work a pony of your own is! It's not put her off yet!

ImALittlePea · 06/06/2023 09:09

Morning all!

Snacks - the devil's work! I used to be such a snacker, but since starting I/F I very, very rarely feel the need to. I'm a salty over sweet person so for me it's a bag of crisps over biscuits or cake. I know a friend who plans and pre-portions snacks out, so the calories are already factored in with meals and the portions are ready to grab as and when needed. Rather than browse the larder or fridge and perhaps consume more than you need. Thought I'd share in case it helps.

Sending hugs your way @Weatherwax13 I'm sorry you've had such a stressful time of it in the UK, not long to go! We'll be cheering you off as you sail off 🤩

So far I've only made a 'list list'... So a list of things I need to make lists of 🤣 but I already feel a bit more able. Mentally I know that everything is doable, but I also know how quickly I can fall down the spiral and feel overwhelmed and miserable, so I'm consciously doing what I can to be more productive and not go down that path.

Yesterday was on plan, pretty much. We had homemade chips with chilli, and I had cheese and sour cream with mine. Delicious 😋

Today's plan:
Lunch - cup-a-soup special or ryvita with houmous again
Dinner - BBQ beef kebabs, flatbread and salad. Maybe some new potatoes as well.

Lots of water and a little bit less tea!

Have a good day team!

Tessisme · 06/06/2023 09:47

@Tessisme Welcome to the thread. Stress can be a right diet buster. It affects the hormones which can surpass any motivation you might try to muster up. Are you able to do anything to counter the stress?

Teleportation to a whole different life would help😂 Unfortunately I can't get rid of the stressful situations, but I could certainly try to change my response - which is generally to grit my teeth and wing it, high on anxiety!

Thanks for the welcome @TheRealHousewife and @Bikechic😊

Heĺloworld99 · 06/06/2023 10:52

Hi All

Have been following the weight loss threads and thought i would jump on! Decided last week enough is enough im 5 foot 4 (i think!?) And 12 stone 4 (i was 12.8 a week ago). I dropped down to 10.8 18 months ago for a wedding doing the fast800 diet which works but just not sustainable long term and i went the other way eating everything in sight!

Im not My fitness palling properly at the moment. Im just eating much healthier meals and watching portions, reducing carbs but not excluding them and not snacking! So for lunch today im having a bulgar wheat salad with tomatoes cucumbers capers feta and olives. For dinner im having one of the bored of lunch slow cooker recipes which i made for dinner last nihht and was delicious - honey chilli beef noodles

Im hoping by me joining this thread it will give me some accountability!

Weatherwax13 · 06/06/2023 11:23

Thanks all for your lovely support ❤️
Just chiming in on the snacking topic. I think it's the hardest to break out of all the bad habits.
@TheRealHousewife 's habit of cleaning and closing the kitchen straight after dinner is also my best tip.
I brush my teeth and do all my cleansing and supposedly magic face potions too as evenings are my danger zone and once I've done that I don't want to mess up my squeaky clean feeling😁
Being alone at home in the daytime can be dodgy, too
What works for me is a big glass of water if I'm tempted by boredom snacking. Gets me through the afternoon slump. I think it helps when you have time to plan dinner as it keeps you going if you have a meal you really like to look forward too.
Disclaimer: I don't have kids at home any more though so it's much easier for me to find time for planning and prep.
