⭐️LOSE IT! April 2023 Countdown to Summer⭐️

Summer countdown starts here! The holidays are right around the corner so it’s time to embrace a fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9st. I had a blip a couple of years ago when my thyroid went wonky but now back on track.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Feel free to share your own links, tips & recipes!

@Bikechic 👏that’s great, well done! I also have a pair of jeans I would love to fit back into. I’ve gone from not being able to get them up past my hips to fitting into them zipped and closed but with a muffin top - so my goal is now to wear them without a muffin top 😆

Cutting out food after 6pm is hard at first. I’ve found a cup of herbal tea helped me.

I’m heading back home today and looking forward to gym + 10k steps

Hello all! I loved the coronation celebrations over the weekend and it made me very proud to be British. We do pomp and pageantry so well and I love that it's a continuation of almost 1000 years of history. I'm a confirmed royalist though so it's no surprise that I loved it. Food has not been so good but I'm not beating myself up about it as it's been lovely. We gathered with family to watch the coronation on Saturday and had a buffet and I really ate far too much. One small victory was that I didn't then eat again in the evening. Previously I'd have had dinner just because it was dinner time and actually I realised I wasn't hungry at all after a massive lunch so I didn't. That feels like quite a mental shift for me, actually listening to my body rather than eating just because the clock says it's a certain time.

I've been trying to stick to only weighing weekly on a Wednesday but on Saturday morning I cracked and stood on the scales....only to find that they're out of battery so not working ha ha! So the universe is telling me to stick to the weekly weigh in and I'll change the battery in time for Wednesday.

Good Morning

What a Coronation Concert. Fabulous! Anyone else watch it?

@Ninjachicken It’s frustrating when MNs glitches gobble up our posts! I’ve lost a couple my self recently; also photos not posting. Hopefully it’s fixed now.

@Weatherwax13 It’s great that you’ve taken the time to reflect on how well you know you can do versus what happens when you don’t do it. Well done, I’d say that’s a great NSV in itself! 👍👏

@DownUdderer When the scales don’t play ball it’s a right bummer! Our hard work needs rewarding in a timely fashion!

@Superdashmama Hope you get in your gym visit and 10k steps 👍

Menu
Meal 1 - Mediterranean omelette & salad. Orange.
Meal 2 - Hake, new potatoes, carrots & peas. Strawberries & Greek yoghurt.
Tea, black coffee and water.

Exercise
Session 1 - Short walk
Session 2 - Stretches

Enjoy your bank holiday if you’re off! What’s everyone doing?

Morning all!

We have family coming over for lunch today. Not really bbq weather, so some pork will be going in the pressure cooker instead. I'm making a couple of different salads so my plan will be to focus on those and the pulled pork, and avoid the buns!

Hopefully I'll get to disappear at some point today for a swim as well.

I hope everyone has a good day!

Ninjachicken · 08/05/2023 10:36

Morning all
nice to hear your thoughts on snacking @Weatherwax13 it is something I struggle with too. And I also have a OH who is not following the plan with me. Yesterday he drank g and t and ate Tirimisu and ice cream. It makes it that much harder to stay strong !
i did have some of my homemade sourdough yesterday and really enjoyed it

i really need to see another loss soon. I completely agree @DownUdderer that you need to see the scales move to stay motivated. Otherwise I get that f**k it points the point attitude

todays food:
L: mushrooms with cheese and salad
D: Salmon and pak Choi

keep going everyone!

AutisticLegoLover · 08/05/2023 11:07

Morning all.
54.9kg this morning so it looks like it wasn't a blip.
To those not seeing a loss, just keep going and you will get there. I had a few days of eating whatever and called them maintenance days 😁 I think I've read somewhere that it stops your body worrying you're experiencing a famine and holding on to every calorie. I've no idea if it's true but those maintenance days have had no long term effect on my loss. I might have got there a few days earlier without them but in the grand scheme of things it doesn't matter. I think it's important to know we can have celebratory days for birthdays etc and it not affect our overall progress.

Nothing exciting happening here today. I really need to do some tidying. The landings are a mess and it's annoying me. Must get the sweet peas in too.

Hope you all have a great day.

AutisticLegoLover · 08/05/2023 15:34

Well, I've just put on my favourite cardigan from last summer. It was a vinted special and I love it. It was snug-ish last summer. Snug on the arms and I never did it up bar one button. It's baggy as anything now, It's a great NSV but I'm really sad it no longer fits. Daft i know! Ill see if there's a smaller size on vinted and sell this one.

What's for dinner tonight? I haven't a clue what to have. Maybe pasta. i treated myself to an iced finger last Thursday from
the local bakery where my grandmother used to buy them for me. It was delicious and I want another one. I think it's lovely that 40 years later I can still get the same item from the same bakery. The price is now crazy. I got ds one too and my mum a little tart and it was £5!

ImALittlePea · 08/05/2023 17:18

Lovely to catch up on how everyone's weekends were 😄

My shifts were very busy, needed a little snack after to get me through until dinner but unsurprising with the timings of things; I worked 11-4 both days so had to eat early and then didn't have dinner until DC in bed.

Saturday:
Lunch/brunch - bacon muffin
Dinner - 1/2 oven pizza, homemade chips, few spoonfuls of B&J ice cream after
Snack - couple of handfuls of crisps. Wine.

Sunday:
Lunch/brunch - wrap with low fat red pepper houmous, cheddar and loads of salad
Dinner - chicken Kiev with lots of broccoli and green beans
Snack - crisps again. Wine again.

Today I've been a bit tired and not making the best choices. The wine last night has definitely contributed to that 🥴
Mid morning snack - crisps and a can of sprite 🤦‍♀️ (very unusual for me to be hungry in the morning, I was up and out quite early gardening, so that plus last night's wines I suppose explains it)
Lunch - same wrap as yesterday
Afternoon snack - bag of crisps (FFS)
Dinner - was going to make corned beef hash, but we're now tempted by takeaway (again - tired and a bit hungover 😬)

It's been a relatively active day though - 2-3 hours of sorting out the garden, plus a walk down to the fun fair and back up the hill after, about 25-30 minutes each way.

I'm trying to curate some meal plans that will help my stomach be as flat as possible for the party next weekend. Will be avoiding bread as much as physically possible, and minimising other carbs. I feel like I should have built a workout routine up over the last few weeks to help - but may have left it a bit late for that to have any impact for next weekend now?? Any tips on easy at-home workouts and low carb/de-bloating meals would be very much appreciated!!

Superdashmama · 08/05/2023 21:03

@ImALittlePea well done for eating and exercising around shift work!

Eggs are always quick and easy… great way to stay full and off carbs. Greek yoghurt + berries are quick and easy too. I find that a salmon lunch or dinner keeps me especially full and away from over-eating or carby snacks.

I like Yoga with Adriene for at home workouts - she has lots of videos on YouTube and you can search for specific things like core workouts or ten minute workouts if you’re short on time.

Also, just putting on your favourite tunes and having a living room disco is a fun at home workout. I get the kids to join in too and they love it…. it gets the pre-teen out of her funk too :)

AutisticLegoLover · 08/05/2023 21:45

I second dancing to the tunes! Always good. I love my gym ball for bouncing while watching tv. Really works the thighs yet doesn't feel like exercise until you stand up and walk like John Wayne 😁 Shifts are a nightmare for messing with timings and food choices. I find if I skip lunch due to being out of routine then I snack far more. Keep going and focus on that party. Maybe hang up your outfit in the wardrobe door to spur your on. A childhood friend's mum used to hang her favourite dress on the kitchen cupboard to remind her to resist temptation. It worked and I remember her happiness that she fitted into her dress again.

AutisticLegoLover · 09/05/2023 06:40

Morning all. 54.85kg this morning. 350g from ultimate target.
Hope everyone has a great day. Plenty of 🍾 will help ahead of wow tomorrow.

DownUdderer · 09/05/2023 08:30

The scales still aren't making me happy. I'm hopeful they'll be kinder tomorrow. I got on the scales this morning and then moved them a bit and tried again. Then I leaned forward, then I leaned back, but still they weren't being kind to me!

Bikechic · 09/05/2023 09:19

@DownUdderer that's so relatable. Going for another wee is also a tactic.

AutisticLegoLover · 09/05/2023 10:05

@DownUdderer scales can be an utter bastard.

Ninjachicken · 09/05/2023 10:48

Scales are being an utter bastard to me too @DownUdderer really need a loss tomorrow!!!

FaeWings · 09/05/2023 10:55

Do you have room for one more?

I'm really in need of some motivation to shift 2 stone and to keep it off. I keep losing these 2 stones and then gaining them again every couple of years. I feel so much happier when I'm thinner but I also love eating all the treats and drop exercise when life gets busy.

I have a holiday in June, my graduation in July and a family wedding in August so I have a few key dates coming up where I would like to look and feel good.

CW: 11st1

Think my plan right now is to:
Cut out junk food snacks
No evening snacks
20 minute of exercise per day
Check in on here everyday
Wednesday Weigh in

DownUdderer · 09/05/2023 12:39

@FaeWings welcome! I think having a goal is a good start :)

ThreeRingCircus · 09/05/2023 12:51

Afternoon all. So yesterday was OK food wise until I took DD to one of her friend's birthday parties and was offered some of the birthday cake and said yes. I annoyed myself to be honest as I actually don't really like cake (much more of a savoury snacker) so it seemed like a pointless waste of calories. I need to stop being such a people pleaser and accepting treats when I don't even want them 🤦🏼‍♀️.

Today's been a bit of a strange day so far as I have a lot going on and as a consequence meals are all a bit up in the air. I need to get a proper food shop and plan for the week done.

Today's food:

B - coffee
L - tuna sandwich and a plum
D - no idea but something with avocado as I've got one that's very ripe and needs eating.

All in all, no idea what the scales will say tomorrow!

Fara22 · 09/05/2023 13:13

@ThreeRingCircus you have suffered what I believe is referred to as a snaccident! Very hard to avoid when you're at a party though - turning down food can feel unsociable!

Superdashmama · 09/05/2023 14:49

My yoga class is cancelled today :(
Will have an extra long walk instead (12k steps!) + cool down stretches

My food for today so far is:

2 boiled eggs
1 mug holy basil tea (apparently good for stress heads like me!)
2 cups black filter coffee
handful of walnuts + 2 dates + 2 squares dark chocolate
1/2 a brownie (I quickly gave the other half to my partner!) 😬
Boiled beetroot, baby spinach & Stilton salad

Food for the rest of the day:

raspberries + blueberries + greek yoghurt
spicy minced beef, chickpea and red peppers with 2 tablespoons rice
rooibos tea

I never had this issue when I was younger but now I find if I don't stretch after a long walk my muscles and joints are unhappy.

NeedToBeLessLarge2023 · 09/05/2023 16:40

I have started slimfast today. The NHS BMI calculator says that to get to a healthy weight I need to lose at least 6 stone… I can’t eat super low calorie as I am still breastfeeding a toddler and I don’t want to stop before he wants to.

I have bought enough of the shake powder to last 16 days of 2 shakes a day. The plan is to have one for breakfast and lunch and have a yogurt or a banana if I get hungry in between. I’m not going to calorie count for tea as I find it really difficult and I know that I can’t restrict calories too much whilst continuing to breastfeed.

So far I’ve had a breakfast shake, a banana and a lunch shake. I’m making spaghetti carbonara for tea. I don’t feel hungry 🤷‍♀️

Haha I like the term snaccident! You're right, why does it feel impolite to just say "no thank you" when offered food? Ah well, we shall see what the scales say tomorrow!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 09/05/2023 19:49

Gah, I haven't posted on this month's thread yet, which speaks volumes about my progress. Sigh. Unfortunately a combination of personal family issues, injury recovery and too much socialising has really hampered me in recent months. I'd still really try to lose half a stone by my summer holiday so I'm dusting myself on and back again.

Exercise was a brisk walk followed by half an hour of physio exercises.

Food wise

B - boiled egg, toast, lemon water
L - home made sweet potato & tomato soup, carrot sticks with humous, apple, packet of skips
D - pork ragu with pasta

Snacks - satsuma!

Will weigh in tomorrow and start calorie counting again. Annoyingly I have two working lunches out this week so it will be hard!

4LeafClover21 · 10/05/2023 02:20

Is it too late to start? 🥺

instantpotnoodle · 10/05/2023 05:54
