⭐️LOSE IT! April 2023 Countdown to Summer⭐️

Summer countdown starts here! The holidays are right around the corner so it’s time to embrace a fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9st. I had a blip a couple of years ago when my thyroid went wonky but now back on track.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Feel free to share your own links, tips & recipes!

1st of May

Starting May at 10st 5.2
(my actual start weight in April was 10st 11).
GW: 9st 10 (I think, that's my 10% loss target anyway)

Using My Fitness Pal and trying to cut carbs and sugar. Also trying to move more and drink lots of water.

Good luck for May everyone.

Good Morning

Brand new month, love it! Clean slate. Lets get on it, hopefully the sunshine and warmer weather are around the corner and we all want to be looking and feeling our best ☀️

Action for Happiness

As usual posted the link for the Action for Happiness website & monthly calendar - Meaningful May.

It’s known that mental health and a sense of well-being can be intrinsically entwined with weight management/over/under eating. Keeping stress and anxiety under control and prioritising sleep can be beneficial to our weight loss endeavours.

Hi @greenspaces4peace most days I think about how you’re doing. We miss your presence on our threads (no pressure) and it’s great you’ve checked in ❤️

@Superdashmama You're doing fabulously 👍You’ve devised a sensible and effective plan. Well done!

Welcome to the thread @Frozentinkerbelle1 . There a quite a few links and inspiring posts over the previous threads which might be helpful 👍 Simple terms you need a sustainable way of eating that is also enjoyable (to be able to stick to it), get enough protein & fibre, plenty of water, healthy fats, minimally processed foods etc. Ultimately take in less calories than you need.

Nice to see you both back @ginsparkles @DownUdderer 👍

Menu
Meal 1 - Prawn Stir fry.
Meal 2 - Chicken salad, home made dressing.
Tea, black coffee & water.

Exercise
Session 1 - Hand weights
Session 2 - Yoga.

Happy May Day folks

Definitely a link btw weight and sleep for me - DC2 isn't sleeping through reliably yet. When she's been up in the night I find it much harder to resist the biscuits.

Big wave to everyone, old & new !

I'm here. Lost my way end of April, but fresh new month to get back on board and find my groove again.

Today:
B - blueberries & yoghurt
L - prawn salad
D - Salmon fishcake & veggies

I'm going to be firm with myself and say big no to all snacking, sugar, and alcohol, which had all started to be consumed too regularly. Water instead.

TooEarly4Breakfast · 01/05/2023 11:15

Hello everyone. Back on the scales this morning, after a month of ignoring them, and gained four pounds in April. So, thirteen pounds to lose to get to my summer goal weight.

@Frozentinkerbelle1 When I started out 18 months ago I was a jean size 34 and am 30 now. I’m also aiming to lose more by this summer. What helped me was;

  1. walking 15k steps a day (i started with 10k in the first week then added 1k more each week)
  2. reducing carbs (bread, pasta, potatoes & rice)
  3. writing down what I ate

I did just these three things for a few months to kick start some healthy habits. Then started adding in more changes every few months.

I also reward myself for sticking to these changes and buy myself a new wardrobe item every 3 months! I have lost some weight every three months so it’ also a great way to make sure I have clothes to wear that fit well :)

@Superdashmama - that’s literally what I did but with Weightwatchers.

My issue was always I’d lose half a stone then put it back on apart from a 4 month period in a job where I fast walked 10-15 mins each morning, halved carbs and walked more after work. I found I had to treat myself to office snacks but just one or two and plus the odd sweet/naughty thing too otherwise it just wouldn’t have worked! I lost a stone then though but it was over 4 months.

My story now is similar but I’m 51, started HRT in January and can emotionally eat sometimes!

my biggest challenges were cutting out crisps (replaced with pop chips), chocolate (do have it sometimes) and motivation!

However my SIL yesterday (super slim and 5ft9!) told me I’d lost weight and I have done! I’ll be in 28 jeans soon I think, down from 30! Weightwatchers classes but also people here really has helped me motivation etc wise.

Other tips I’ve found for others:-

  • breakfast - 15-20g porridge oats with water or Alpen low sugar. With Alpen have almond milk and with both 80g blueberries.

lunch, anything from half packet Knorr packet soup (spring vegetable or Chinese chicken) with 2 cheese oatcakes or 2 Ryvita rye with spread. Add 2 Quorn mini bites and batons of cucumber.

snacks can use above from lunch. Or low sugar jellies. I make my own. Or fruit.

dinners. I like the WW recipes eg lasagne or potato knocchi with Philadelphia cream cheese sauce and pan fried spinach. Or I have veggie stir fry or other meals but always with palm sized or less portion of rice/pasta/potato.

large bottle of water with cordial throughout day.

2 Laps (a mile each) of park every day or every other day. At fast or medium speed. Add in other exercise. I like yoga or HIIT.

i could be way more active, cut down on food but the above means I can still eat pop chips etc or go out to eat etc. appreciate what works for me won’t work for everyone!

Ninjachicken · 01/05/2023 11:27

Morning all, let’s get ready for summer!!!
weighing in this morning at 62.4 kgs (around 9 stone 8 I think )?
i have lost 3.2kgs since I started fast 800 three weeks ago. I am keeping at it and avoiding alcohol, sugar and processsed foods
L: either left over paprika pork with mushrooms or smoked salmon and scrambled eggs
D: chicken legs roasted with salad

I will try not to snack, I have been having a square of dark chocolate and then cheese and almonds. I have to remind myself constantly how little I have to eat to actually lose weight !!!
lovely to see you @ginsparkles @greenspaces4peace @Bumblebeehum @buzzofthebumblebee and everyone else!
hello to all newcomers!
and thanks for the new thread @TheRealHousewife
lets do this !!! Lots of water and healthy choices ! Though I am out for the day tomorrow and will be having lunch out !!!! Will try for a salad or something !
have a good day everyone

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 01/05/2023 11:28

My SW was just over 11 stone now in January and CW under 10 and a half now (got 4llb to lose weigh in tomorrow). I’ve lost 7lb since January but more than happy with that as it’s continuous.

AutisticLegoLover · 01/05/2023 11:31

Morning all, happy May! Welcome to all the new posters.

SW 68.8kg September 2022
Current weight 55.45kg May 2023
Ultimate goal 54.5kg

May starts with a weight of 55.45kg
Goal weight is 55kg dead on then
54.5kg. One kilo to go so for me May will be mainly Maintenance Month. I'm not sure how I'll manage that. The last bit feels very slow but then there's been 3 days of no exercise this weekend because da has covid and we've been sat on the sofa for most of it. Once the school run starts again it will drop as it always does.

Wishing you all the will power you need, some days/weeks/months are harder than others. This thread gives the support needed for those tough times I've found and I hope you will too.

Let's do this!

Bumblebeehum · 01/05/2023 11:51

Really impressed with your resilience at sticking to 800 cals @Ninjachicken keep at it!!

(I’m eating a bit more than that though).

let me confess my food fun from yesterday, it started out at a big party the night before where I drank much wine (and avoided all snacks!!) So Sunday was driven by hangover-hunger. I had toast for breakfast, a massive Nasi Goreng for lunch and then in the evening I couldn’t face proper food so had a big bag of NikNaks and a Turkish Delight. It was superb!!! (And only just over the MFP calorie allowance)

This week, shall be much more fruit and veg based 😇

Ninjachicken · 01/05/2023 12:09

@Bumblebeehum loving your food yesterday !!! I would have drunk my calories too 😂
i def go over 800 some days but probably not over 1000. My impatience to lose weight seems to finally be over riding my natural greediness and love of food and drink 😄

bonnie199 · 01/05/2023 15:04

Can I join please? Have been around the 10 stone mark for the last 5 years since DC. Managed to get down to 9st 4 last summer but that slowly crept up over the winter. I am far more comfortable around 9 stone and finally feel a bit more motivated to get in shape for a family holiday in August.

Welcome to the thread @2littleonesx Congratulations on your upcoming wedding! Exciting times 🥳

@JollyJellyCat Sounds tough! Hope the little one soon gets in a settled routine.

@TooEarly4Breakfast At least you know where you are now weight wise. Not too much to lose 👍

@GonnaGetGoingReturns Its always nice when someone acknowledges our weight loss endeavours. Well done 👍

@Ninjachicken We are very similar weights … we could be twins 👯‍♀️. I agree about how little we can eat in order to lose even a little bit. It’s tough, especially if not very tall and have a disability to boot.

@bonnie199 Welcome to the thread. Your goal weight is similar to my to goal. For me, so near yet so far. I’m finding it more tough the nearer I get. I’m not despondent, just realistic 😬

Hello all, checking in as I need the accountability.

I've been feeling really ill this weekend (typical, I'm always ill when it's a holiday) and food yesterday was dreadful. I just wanted to eat to feel better and I made some really bad food choices and actually......it didn't make me feel better at all. So I woke up today, still ill and decided I needed to focus on nutrition and giving my body what it needs but keeping meals simple and easy. As well as spending the day resting on the sofa!

B - porridge
L - avocado on toast with loads of chilli to clear my sinuses
D - pea and mint soup and a chunk of seeded bread

Still feeling grotty but so much better to be back on the sensible eating plan. I'm not weighing until Wednesday so we'll see how it goes. I did well in April (8lbs down) so I'm not beating myself up too much.

TheRealHousewife · 01/05/2023 19:37

@ThreeRingCircus Sorry to read you don’t feel well, hopefully you’ll soon be fully recovered; well done on your Aprils loss 👍👏

I have had a lovely long weekend - too lovely I suspect and though it is 22.32 and I have a 6.30 start I am still enjoying it. DH and I are sitting by candle light in the garden putting the world to rights as we do from time to time and he has just gone to gone to open anothe bottle of wine ....
Suspect the scales may not be looking good tomorrow but will be better by Thursday.
I will weigh in and I will declare it in the morning.

DownUdderer · 01/05/2023 23:24

I weighed this morning and I'm a pound down, what a relief. I don't mind putting in the work on what I'm eating as long as the results are good.

greenspaces4peace · 02/05/2023 01:53

:) okay everyone.

  1. i weighted in BUT didn't look, i know my apps will have picked it up and i can review it when i'm being more courageous.
  2. i logged my breakfast (it's an easy start).
  3. very low sugar (only had some with my 3pm coffee).
  4. fruits and veggies, a good variety; rhubarb, strawberry, apple, cantaloup, tomato, cucumber, carrots and savoy cabbage. no lie, there were a few days towards the end of april where i had zero fruit and/or zero veggies and had things like toast and cheese, more toast and more cheese and the darn nuts!! very very unbelievable/unusual and not my general "style".
  5. 2l fluids; to go along with my lack of variety in april my fluid intake was equally poor. SO with so many things that were "not right" in april, doing better in may should be easy. day 1 done and the kitchen is closed as of 1730. thanks for the welcome back @TheRealHousewife and @Ninjachicken
AutisticLegoLover · 02/05/2023 06:55

Morning all. The bank holiday is going to completely throw me this this. Bank holiday salty meal will not help Wednesday weigh in 😩 I missed lunch though and was under calories so lots of water to flush out the salt should rectify any bloat.
@Was126orbustandmaybebust that sounds a lovely evening😊
@greenspaces4peace I was wondering where you'd got to do welcome back. April can be forgotten now so don't worry about what you didn't do, focus on May and you'll soon be back in the swing of things.

Ds has had covid and I have a scratchy throat again and Dd is full of a cold so it's been a quiet weekend. Ds is back to school today as much better and DD's school is on strike so another out of routine day, I'm off out with my lovely mum to buy plants for her garden and probably mine too. I'd like a nice houseplant. They are making a bit of a come back I think.

All the usuals for me today. Predictable as ever food wise.

Have a great day everyone and don't forget copious amounts of 🍾

TheRealHousewife · 02/05/2023 07:36

Good Morning

@Was126orbustandmaybebust That sounds like a perfect evening and calories just don’t matter as such times are utterly priceless ❤️

@DownUdderer Fab loss 👍👏

Great post @greenspaces4peace . Here’s to a Marvellous & Meaningful May for all the right reasons 🤞

@AutisticLegoLover Sorry to read your ds has covid again. Hope he recovers quickly and your scratchy throat isn’t the dreadful virus!

Menu
Meal 1 - Boiled egg and salmon salad. Apple & pecans.
Meal 2 - Spag bol with buttered cabbage/carrots.
Tea, black coffee and water.

Exercise - Rest day.

Was126orbustandmaybebust · 02/05/2023 08:21

Yep as suspected scales are not looking good.
A focused day or two ahead!
So sorry your family is sick @AutisticLegoLover - hope you all feel better soon.

Bikechic · 02/05/2023 08:48

Great to read updates and new people's stories. I lost total of 2lb in May.
CW:11 st 5lb
Was hoping for more obviously, but when you eat with the aim of losing weight slowly, you shouldn't really expect it to happen quickly.
I promised DD I'd do a park run with her on Saturday. Anyone else fancy joining us?

DivaRainbow · 02/05/2023 11:03

Hey everyone can I join??

After 3 babies I stopped taking care of myself and have piled on weight. I'm just back from holidays and I feel awful about myself.

I'm 5ft and 79kg which is huge for my height. I'm going to Spain in September and want to be 69kg.

I plan on getting my steps up and being mindful of what I eat. Any tips are welcome
