“I started Ozempic last night” THREAD TWO

Here’s a shiny new thread for everyone who’s been sharing their experiences on the original, and of course all new starters are welcome too!

OP posts:

That’s interesting @MaireadMcSweeney - I haven’t found it did anything for sweet cravings really. Although I don’t eat a lot of sweet things so that’s maybe why. I love a couple of biscuits after lunch and still have those and if I fancy something sweet in the evening one or two chocolates does it but that’s normal for me.

Cappuccinopup · 23/01/2023 09:45

msssm · 22/01/2023 23:16

Thank you for the info @Peridot1 that is encouraging.

Still interested to know if anyone fasts while on it.

I fast while on it with ease, I have done OMAD, and I have started to do one weekly 36h fast.

I’m with Juniper and their health coach advice seems to be conventional dieting wisdom of eating 6+ times a day, and keeping carbs high (which I know does not work for me, and from what I have read doesn’t tend to be a great approach, in particular if you have insulin issues).

I am eating low carb with fasting mixed in and it works really well for me.

Happierwithouthim · 23/01/2023 09:47

I'm on ozempic since 14th Nov
Prior to it I would have had 2 poached eggs on toast for breakfast at 10am, toasted sandwich with some fruit for lunch and a dinner in the evening. Meat/veg/rice etc, I was always wanting snacks but resisted for the most part.

Now I've yogurt/fruit/granola for breakfast most days and then another meal usually sandwich at lunchtime and then maybe a slice of toast/breakfast type meal in the evening. I've just no interest in eating more generally it's two meals per day.

Yesterday I'd yogurt fruit and granola in the morning, out for a long walk with children and then fish curry in the evening.

Did anyone notice a big change going from .25mg to 0.5mg? I have gone up to 0.5mg today, wondering what to expect or if it’s likely I’ll get more side effects - .25 side effects have been mild, mostly indigestion on injection day. Tia 😊

MaireadMcSweeney · 23/01/2023 09:54

I just took my last dose from my first pen, which should have taken me to total 1.5mg used but the pen seems to have more in. I wonder if I screwed up somewhere on the dose before?
I've taken 0.5 today so looking forward to seeing how that impacts me.
I've also used the new needles I bought on eBay and they are correct so I'll post some to the two peeps who PayPaled me postage today :)

@Cappuccinopup im afraid I’ve found the jump pretty horrendous. I’ve had diarrhoea around 3/4 times a day and at night and a constant wave of nausea like I’m pregnant or on a boat!

Oh god! Thanks for the warning, luckily WFH this week so I’m near a toilet incase I experience the same 😂

how long after injecting did those symptoms take to start, if you don’t mind me asking? 😊

Alstoybarn · 23/01/2023 10:10

Has anyone bought from UK meds?

HeyMicky · 23/01/2023 10:38

Same, no nausea but upset stomach for 3 days after the increase (not even to .5) And I had no side effects to start :(

HeyMicky · 23/01/2023 10:39

Me @Alstoybarn No issues at all buying, just a quick phone chat with their GPs. Quick delivery too

Thank you to all those who sent a message with a code/email address, really do appreciate the support!

Went through the set up process on Juniper and it says order placed and would be reviewed. Weighed myself yesterday, soul destroying tbh.

I felt similarly deflated after weighing myself a month ago before my first ozempic dose - I was the heaviest I have ever been, and nearly a stone heavier than I was when I was heavily pregnant.

A month on and I have made 23% progress towards my target - try and stay optimistic that this medicine will be a fresh start for you! It’s a game changer. 💐

FatandNearlyFifty · 23/01/2023 11:43

@Cappuccinopup Wow 23%, that's incredible. Just have fingers crossed the consultants say I'm ok to have the meds. Worked out need to lose about 7 stone to get to a healthy BMI, feel sick just writing that (which is perfect if nausea is on the cards for the next few months!)

lastminutelily · 23/01/2023 11:54

Hi! New starter here. I'm taking Rybelsus 3mg. The 0.25 injection equivalent. Zero appetite suppression so far (am on day 4) and zero side effects either. I'm thinking of doubling the dose to 6mg as I've seen on (not sure if here or other threads) that some people have started at the 0.5 injection dose due to the 0.25 vials not being available. So it doesn't sound like it would be dangerous. I know I'm being impatient (!) but has anyone else done this or has any relevant knowledge/advice. Thanks!

PS BMI 31, 20KG to lose

I felt slightly more nauseous but no real difference. I'm due to take my second .5 dose tonight. Fingers crossed I feel ok on it!

It was around 24 hours after dozing up that they really started to kick in! Anything with the slightest of sugar and my body goes haywire!

the annoying thing is I quite like a biscuit with my tea and that’s still within my calories (im calorie counting) but my body now says no!

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 23/01/2023 12:33

missfliss · 23/01/2023 07:10

Can I ask a couple of questions?

Question 1:
For those who have been on it a while, what does a days eating look like now?
Is it largely the same as before but smaller portions and no snacks?
Or are the types of foods different ( planned that way or just desires have changed?)

Question 2
What are your plans post Ozempic to not regain all the weight ( accepting that some will likely come back) ?

I am always trying to follow the Why We Eat (Too Much) way of eating with varying success (before and after starting Ozempic). On a good day my diet is the same as before but the portions smaller - often don't finish supper. On a bad day I can still eat rubbish but probably less of it and on these days I eat even less of my meals as I am full up from the rubbish. I can snack quite a bit as small amounts don't make me full. My desires haven't really changed apart from volume I would say. I can still enjoy dinner out at a restaurant - the food still all tastes great, but I sometimes leave quite a bit of it especially if I have had a starter which is a bit embarrassing. Must learn not to order starters! I have only actually been sick a few times but two of these were the morning after restaurant meals when I tried to eat more than felt comfortable.

My plans once I reach a target or if my weight plateaus on Ozempic is either to keep taking it at the same dose if the weight has stopped dropping or if I am still losing weight and I don't want to lose any more then to cut the dose down until I am maintaining. I think the first scenario is more likely. It would be great to be able to stop taking it and the weight stay off but past experiences of yoyo dieting makes me think it is unlikely to work out like that.

That's interesting.
I don't eat sugar at all so maybe that's why I've had no other side effects 🤔

I took my first 0.5 today and now have wicked heartburn! Weirdly I'm pleased as I didn't get any symptoms apart from the constipation and once that wore off I was hungry again so I'm up for side effects if it means my appetite will be suppressed again!

Oigetoffmylawn · 23/01/2023 13:58

So, weigh in number 2 and 2.5lbs down, totalling 5.5lbs which I'm really happy with.

I found it's really helped with sweet cravings - I only struggle Sunday evening and Monday until afternoon (I administer my dose Monday mornings).

I'm not following a specific diet but I am trying to eat more mindfully which is really helped by the removal of "background food chatter" in my head - I'm no longer constantly thinking about food so much more able to look at what my body really wants - I'm enjoying eating fruit and veg much more than previously. I hope it continues.

ButterfliesnWaterfalls · 23/01/2023 15:10

Hey, I might try this … looking at this thread it seems like lots of positive results.

Can I have code please?

Mumonamission123 · 23/01/2023 15:44

Hi all, I have recently started Ozempic. Currently on week 3 of 0.25. I find my appetite is slowly increasing so can't wait till I go up the 0.5. Did the higher dose help anyone lose more weight and reduce hunger?

Stillwearingskinnies · 23/01/2023 17:00

I've messaged you @ButterfliesnWaterfalls

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 24/01/2023 07:06

Official weigh in day for me and a more modest loss this week but still a loss. (400g/0.9lb). A 10 lb loss altogether now. That first stone isn’t far away.

ButterfliesnWaterfalls · 24/01/2023 08:37

Thanks to everyone who sent me code 🙂
