“I started Ozempic last night” THREAD TWO

Here’s a shiny new thread for everyone who’s been sharing their experiences on the original, and of course all new starters are welcome too!

OP posts:
Lostinalibrary · 22/01/2023 16:40

I am looking at starting this. Can anyone tell me what I need to order from Uk meds.

Peridot1 · 22/01/2023 16:57

@Mycatsgoldtooth - I wouldn’t recommend it I don’t think but I think you’d need to talk to a medical professional really. In your shoes I would get myself a continuous glucose monitor and monitor who different foods affect my bloody sugars and cut them out. Concentrate on low carb which will avoid all the foods that generally spike blood sugar.

RumNotRun · 22/01/2023 17:05

@Abeachsomewhere I seem to be shadowing you. I also have about 5 stone to lose and had my 3rd injection on Friday, weighed this morning and have lost 13lbs. I know I have to brace myself for the weight loss to slow/stop, but for now, I am very happy.

I have my first appointment with the diabetic clinic on Feb 7th (I think) as I am pre-diabetic. I'm hoping they'll test me and see if I'm out of the danger zone. I will tell them about Ozempic, you never know, they may let me get it on prescription! (Doubtful)

A lot of my weight gain was from taking Mirtazapine (or lard tablets as I referred to it). I'd been losing weight slowly but steadily for several months, then my MH took a massive nose dive so I had to change meds a few times. I stopped going out for walks like I used to, and then on Mirtazapine I put on a few stone in 2-3 months. I do have an under-active thyroid which is medicated, but I have really struggled to lose weight since that time. I'm hoping that once I get rid of all the weight I put on then, I'll be more motivated to get back to the old me with lots of walks, enjoying healthy cooking, etc, so I can come off Ozempic without ballooning again.

Mycatsgoldtooth · 22/01/2023 17:11

@Peridot1 thanks so much for getting back. I did have one but it kept messing up and was so expensive so I just do my bloods with the finger prick. I’m trying with low carb at the moment and wondered if this might help with the cravings for pasta and sweet fruit as they are the things I find hard to not eat.

Eatentoomanyroses · 22/01/2023 17:15

Peridot1 · 22/01/2023 15:12

@Eatentoomanyroses - I switched to Rybelsus for a bit last year as I was travelling so thought it would be easier. I didn’t really like it. You have to take the tablet every morning on an empty stomach and I found I could taste it for a while. I prefer the ease of the weekly injection.

I don’t find taking it bad but I don’t find 7mg does anything but 14mg made me sick as a dog so I went back to 7mg but not losing. Maybe I should stick it out on the 14mg

I've cancelled my Juniper order and planning to order from Uk Meds next, works out at £126 a month if you buy three which is a lot better than £200 a month with Juniper!

Did someone say they had spare needles? I still have 1-2 doses left in my old 0.5mg pen.

I have spare needles. PM me if you want me to send you some

missfliss · 22/01/2023 17:31

I've just ordered 3 x 0.5mg pens from UK meds too - can anyone advise on spare needles ( which to buy).

Also when they arrive I might have questions about how to dispense the 0.25 starting dose

BellyDancer124 · 22/01/2023 18:52

I'm curious if anyone has taken more than 0.25 per week in the first month? Towards the end of the week I feel my hunger coming back. Not sure if this is just a placebo effect or whatever but I'm curious if anyone has taken an extra .25 a few days after? Smile

did they say how long for delivery?

I want to start but going away in half term and don’t want to do before then in case of side effects!!! (Also want to be able to eat on holiday)!!!

Goawayangryman · 22/01/2023 19:00

@BellyDancer124 me. I've put it up to 0.5 in week 3 and am definitely getting more appetite suppression. I think the reason for slow titration up is to avoid side effects but I've not really had any of those and havnet since increasing..may be inadvisable, I'm not sure, but it is bloody expensive and I don't want to be on it for any longer than I have to.

missfliss · 22/01/2023 19:11

Standard delivery would have been on Thursday - I paid for them to be delivered on Tuesday

Thanks for this reply! I've also got away with minimal side effects (little bit of a headache the day of injection but not too bad) I'll see how I go this week and maybe up to .5 Smile

yes. Week 3 I injected 0.25 twice on different days after reading on here that the first pen has 6 doses not 4. However I don't think that worked the same as one 0.5 dose as my appetite came back at the end of week 2 and hasn't gone again. I'm taking 0.5 tomorrow as my 4th dose. Hoping it helps as otherwise I've got to wait another month to go up again.

msssm · 22/01/2023 23:16

Thank you for the info @Peridot1 that is encouraging.

Still interested to know if anyone fasts while on it.

missfliss · 23/01/2023 07:10

Can I ask a couple of questions?

Question 1:
For those who have been on it a while, what does a days eating look like now?
Is it largely the same as before but smaller portions and no snacks?
Or are the types of foods different ( planned that way or just desires have changed?)

Question 2
What are your plans post Ozempic to not regain all the weight ( accepting that some will likely come back) ?

Cozytoesandtoast00 · 23/01/2023 08:39

missfliss · 22/01/2023 10:42

I submitted my Juniper form yesterday - now worried that won't quite hit their BMI requirements - I think mine is at 29 rather than 30.
Does anyone know if I will be declined ?

My BMI is 29 and I have no other issues. They asked for photos and then they agreed on that basis. Not sure how to take that! 😂

Cozytoesandtoast00 · 23/01/2023 08:42

msssm · 22/01/2023 14:27

Can anyone tell me if you can have fast days while on this?
Considering starting as I am obese after a few years peri but I do like to follow a low carb/fast days diet.

I normally fast 16/8. I can some days but find it more difficult if I'm feeling nausea as eating resolves that.

Cherryonthetop2019 · 22/01/2023 15:14

I’ve been on Ozempic since May 2022. I started on 0.25 for 4 weeks then went to 0.5 till September 2022 and then increased it to 0.75. I’ve lost about 30lbs and gone from a size 16 to a size 12.

I’m a T2 diabetic so I get mine from my diabetic nurse and so don’t pay for it. My HBA1C was 57 when I started and is now at non diabetic levels. Nurse is very happy so I can continue on it as it’s doing what it needs to and doing it very well.

The feeling of fullness and lack of appetite does wear off quite a bit after a while. These are initial side effects and do not last forever. So this is the time to change what you eat and how much of it.

Well done! Great tip. Thank you.

MiniCooperLover · 23/01/2023 08:46

I ordered mine from Juniper on Friday, had an email on Saturday to say it's been accepted and will be shipped so I'm hoping it doesn't take too long to get here. I'm 50 in April and 14 stone at the minute, if I could get a stone off by then I'd be happy. I was in two minds to tell DH, I wasn't sure how he'd react, but he's been quite positive so that's good.

Just an update from me.
I've completed my first month and 1 stone down! Very pleased with that.

I'm eating the same meals as before but no snacks and no sweet things most days. I'm hoping by the end of 6 months on ozempic that I'll be in the habit of eating that way:/

Kfjsjdbd · 23/01/2023 09:23

I re-weighed myself today and after one week on 0.25 I’ve lost 2.5lbs. I’m so happy. I haven’t managed to lose weight for a long long time.

To answer the question on what eating looks like now. My portions have reduced. So where I would have had beans on two slices of toast with cheese on top for breakfast, I’m now having beans on one slice of toast with no cheese, and it fills me up until lunch. There’s also been a shift in how I view snacking. I’m much more satisfied by an apple as a snack than I ever was, which is weird for me.

Peridot1 · 23/01/2023 09:31

@Mycatsgoldtooth - I wouldn’t say it helps with cravings particularly. It reduces your appetite so you naturally eat less. I think the only thing to help with cravings for sweet things etc is to just not have them and the cravings go away eventually. Hard I know!

@BellyDancer124 - I was advised to take 0.5 from the beginning with my first supplier. They said that was best for weight loss.

@missfliss - eating wise I can eat most things. I am trying to keep my carbs quite low as that definitely helps the medication work better. So I tend to avoid carbs during the day other than a couple of biscuits with a cuppa after my lunch. I will have carbs with my evening meal but a small amount. Today’s food plan is Greek yoghurt and blueberries with a few flaked almonds and pumpkin seeds for breakfast, scrambled eggs with chopped red onion, pepper, mushrooms and feta cheese for lunch. Dinner is a mushroom pasta dish as we have loads of mushrooms to use up but it will be a small portion.

With regards to plans going forward I am going to gradually reduce my dosage and see how I go really. I am not going to let myself get more than five pounds over my eventual target and then I will low carb till it’s gone. If I feel I need to buy Ozempic again I will.

MaireadMcSweeney · 23/01/2023 09:38

For me it helped with my sugar cravings immediately. That's the best effect for me so far. Also I'm eating less at meals and leaving some if I'm full rather than finishing it because it's there.
