“I started Ozempic last night” THREAD TWO

1000 replies

HermioneWeasley · 18/01/2023 19:01

Here’s a shiny new thread for everyone who’s been sharing their experiences on the original, and of course all new starters are welcome too!

OP posts:
MaryPoppinjay · 09/02/2023 11:09

Well done @HermioneWeasley the 11’s is a fantastic result

MaryPoppinjay · 09/02/2023 11:15

@orangelous i’ve just dug out my Salter scales and there is a 4lbs difference between those and the Juniper ones. I’m going to track both scale weights separately as figure as long as it’s going down the actual number doesn’t matter for now.
@IAmBreathingIn too scared to go to Boots and have them tell me I’m like 70% fat or something - still have awful memories of being weighed publicly when pregnant… shudder

RotundRuby · 09/02/2023 12:54

Those of you having inconsistencies with scales have you tried the patio/path/very solid level ground? My DH put a paving slab in our bathroom as our (good quality) scales and our shit scales were both being inconsistent. It solved the issue, even though it was a tiled solid feeling floor. Obviously not much use if your weight fluctuates but stopped me getting three different reads within the same morning.

Thanks @Twiglets1 that useful to know. Seems mad as I've been trying to lose the same bloody stone for nearly 2 years now. Have only ever achieved 4lbs!

Cozytoesandtoast00 · 10/02/2023 06:24

Well done everyone on you losses. So motivational to read.
I had a very stressful period over the last couple of days. I ate a ton of sugar (after a 7 week period of abstinence)!
I suppose the trick is not to dwell on it and carry on.

Absolutely that is the trick.

We need to try to think like people with a healthy BMI. They don’t worry if they have an occasional binge on sugar or fat. It’s just one day.

Peridot1 · 10/02/2023 07:36

I had issues with scales too and ended up buying new ones. They are a brand called Renpho and measure all kinds of things and link to an app on my phone. I had a set of them and found them good but DS stole them and I was fed up of my old WW ones giving me five different numbers depending on where they were positioned that I bought another set of Renpho ones. They seem much more consistent.

@Cozytoesandtoast00 - yes don’t dwell on it. Just move on. It’s impossible to stick to anything 100% especially in times of stress. You know what the trigger was and it’s sometimes useful to have a think about why our coping mechanisms are food or drink or whatever and if we could possibly not react how we do but at the end of the day we all need a coping mechanism.

We ended up having a friend over last night for dinner and too much wine was consumed. I was ok on food all day though so am not beating myself up. We are out tonight too which isn’t ideal but hey ho. Life is for living.

I had to go to the chiropractor yesterday as I tweaked my back on Wednesday and I hadn’t seen her since last summer and she noticed my weight loss straight away which was nice.

That must be so nice when people start to comment on your weight loss. No one had noticed mine yet which tells me how overweight I had become that half a stone loss is not really noticeable.

Not really. I deeply dislike people commenting on my body and makes me very uncomfortable when people do even if meant as compliment. I dare say people mean well but I really don’t think it is the job of colleagues, neighbours etc to give their unsolicited view on my body and congratulate me on making it smaller. Some people have done it and I hated it.

Appreciate I might sound like a gringe but important to be aware lots of people are uncomfortable with this.

HolibobsinApril · 10/02/2023 08:09

@StuckInTheUpsideDown I agree entirely.

It just makes you feel ten times worse when you put weight back on.

I understand what you’re saying.
I would personally be pleased to hear the first comment but not if lots of people started commenting on it because past a certain point it can feel intrusive.

Peridot1 · 10/02/2023 08:32

Well I’m 3 stone down so it is pretty noticeable I suppose! I don’t mind it. I’ve been up and down over the years and this is the smallest I’ve been so I’m really happy to receive comments. Some people are pretty diplomatic and have told me I look great but not mentioned weight.

The chiropractor actually told me she lost 30kg before I started seeing her which I hadn’t known.

Everyone’s different I guess. A slim women who was new at my workplace spent her first lunchtime showing us all photos on her phone of how much bigger she used to be pre gastric sleeve!
We were a bit surprised she chose to be so open but she liked talking about it. We would never have guessed she hadn’t always been a size 10.

MiniCooperLover · 10/02/2023 09:25

To the OP mentioning she'd had a sugar day, it happens. It's life .. we're trying to figure out a new way of eating for life, not a way of not eating, so if a little sugar helps now and then, what of it.

Well done everyone with your efforts, it's all worth it. I'm not great if people comment on my weight but I know my mum will want to when I next see her but will do it in a roundabout way as I've made it clear over the years that if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all ..... I'd need to be 3 stone down before it's a positive comment mind .. I'm interested to see if she notices when I next see her that I'm 10lbs down and what her comment will be ....

OzzyOzworn · 10/02/2023 09:39

9lbs down 4.5 weeks in and haven’t even gone upto the 0.5mg dose yet so really thrilled! I have Renpho scales that link to phone app too and highly recommend. Shows weight, visceral & subcutaneous fat %, water etc and a graph showing the loss it’s brill! (& hoping outsiders notice and tell me I’ve lost weight soon-such a motivator for me!)

Cappuccinopup · 10/02/2023 09:44

Peridot1 · 04/02/2023 15:47

The starting dose of 0.25 is an adjustment dose really and most people need 0.5 to really lose. After all Wegovy is prescribed in the US up to 2.4 for treatment of obesity.

Good to see you on here @Cappuccinopup. Your posts on that other thread yesterday were very informative. And patient!

@orangelous - those Singapore Slings will have been very sugary! So the drug would not have been as effective on the insulin side of things. I read a very good scientific explanation for why we should reduce carbs on Ozempic and I will try to find it. I’m a bit rubbish at explaining! But reduce your carbs and drink lots of water and you should get back on track.

Nice to see you over here too, and thanks! 😊 It’s such a brilliant thread, and really interesting to be able to hear other people’s experiences.

Cappuccinopup · 10/02/2023 09:50

Down around 3.5lbs this week - just 0.2 bmi points away from ‘overweight’ which will be a great milestone to meet. Delighted I have lost 15.6lbs over six weeks. I have started tracking my protein intake to make sure I get enough, which has amplified the appetite suppression of ozempic.

Attaching my weight loss app stats, as I always find it really interesting hearing about everyone else’s! (App is called ‘My Weight’ on the App Store, it’s the best app I have used to track.)

Good luck to everyone!

BalloonArch · 08/02/2023 09:10

@MaireadMcSweeney I'll do that, thanks! I think I was just trying to avoid side effects, but I haven't had any at 0.25, so I've no reason to think that I'll have any at a higher dose.
I'll just power through the rest of this week and cross my fingers for next week

I didn’t have any side effects going from .25 to .5, except a bit of indigestion on injection day so I eat very light on injection days now.

Thanks for sharing this app - I will try it out as it seems really good and I have an iPhone. I just use the Nutracheck app at the moment but have to pay an annual fee for that so I’m thinking about not renewing.
Your stats are similar to mine but you started a bit before me & seem to be losing faster. It will be amazing when our BMI is under 30. I’ve still got a way to go but you’re so close!

Ive got my last 0.25mg to take on Wednesday then supposed to be moving up to 0.5. Has anyone tried staying on 0.25 for longer? I only ask because I have started getting a bit of indigestion & occasional sulphur burp. It’s not bad but it makes me nervous to go up to 0.5 in case the side effects get worse. I still don’t have much appetite on 0.25mg.

The weight app doesn’t actually track cals, just weigh ins, I’m also using nutracheck at the moment!

My weight loss definitely hasn’t been linear - I had a week where I maintained, then weeks where I lost a lot more. But as long as the general trend is downwards I’m happy 😊 it will be brilliant when we get past that ‘obese’ hurdle - I can’t wait, I will reward myself with something not food related 😂

Re dosage - are you finding the .25 effective weight loss/appetite wise so far? On a lot of the US based ozempic forums (Reddit etc) they seem to advocate staying on the lowest effective dosage as long as possible, and only increasing the dosage when weight loss stalls/appetite suppression wears off, with the logic that you want to have room to increase dosage when you stall, so not much point increasing while you are having success.

I increased to .5 after the first four jabs as my appetite was returning a lot on day 5/6, .5 is working great and the effects last until my next jab so I plan to stay on .5 until the effects start wearing off, then increase to .75. The ‘therapeutic’ dose is 1mg +, but I don’t see the need to rush to that dosage if the weight is coming off.

IAmBreathingIn · 10/02/2023 10:57

@MaryPoppinjay That doesn't sound much fun 🙈 I'm just glad that the machine at Boots doesn't read my weight out loud for all the staff, customers, delivery drivers and people passing by to hear! 😂

@Peridot1 and @OzzyOzworn Thanks for the advice re Renpho scales 👍🏻

@Cozytoesandtoast00 I also hit the sugar during my last period, the craving for chocolate was overwhelming! I scolded myself for it but then though it doesn't matter, it's only once a month and periods are pretty miserable so if it makes me feel better.... ☺️

orangelous · 10/02/2023 11:03

i had a horrible shock today have gained 3lbs😢😢😢even though i have been very abstinent! Hoping it's a blip. i am now on the second pen of 0.5mgs so 3 more doses before I can increase. The effects do seem to be a lot less the past couple of weeks .
I have also had quite a lot of abdominal cramps and have felt really tired going to bed at 8.30 most nights.
I wonder is it a side effect or The upset stomach so had on holiday lingering on.
Anyway lots of good news on here congratulations on all the losers!!
and i'm still a stone down wince 13dec so i hope i can show a loss next week

That makes sense to stay on the lowest effective dosage. Think I will stay on 0.25 a bit longer as yes it is still working at curbing my appetite. I know I’m not losing as fast as some people but that’s more down to personal choices I’m making such as still having sugar in tea & coffee. I’m ok with losing weight at this rate - delighted in fact!
I’m no longer using the calorie tracking part of Nutracheck. I’m only using it to track my weight loss as I no longer bother worrying about calories beyond trying to make healthier food choices than I used to. I’ve downloaded your app from my phone now so will use them both for a while to see which one I prefer. It’s good that the Apple one is free. Thanks for sharing it.

Peridot1 · 10/02/2023 11:22

@Cappuccinopup - I’ve been on Ozempic for almost a year. Next week in fact. I started on 0.5 as that was what I was recommended to do by the first supplier I got it from. It’s been slow in some ways I suppose but that’s fine. I had a couple of breaks. When moving up from 0.5 once a week I started having 0.5 twice a week which worked well. Changing up to 1mg per week in one shot has slowed things down so I’m now back on 0.5 but every three days to see how that goes. Although I’m going to Australia for a month on Tuesday and only want to take one pen so will stretch it out I think to make it last.

For tracking weight and calorie intake etc I use My Fitness Pal. The free version. I find it quite good. It’s useful to track fibre, protein etc. too.

Sorry to hear that @orangelous

Obviously the scales can fluctuate so not 100% reliable but it's still disappointing I know. My scales showed a 1b gain this morning but I'm pretending I didn't weigh myself 😐

I've been really tired too! Not sure if it's Ozempic or the cold dark nights and my cozy throw but I'm struggling to stay awake watching TV past 9pm.
