“I started Ozempic last night” THREAD TWO

Here’s a shiny new thread for everyone who’s been sharing their experiences on the original, and of course all new starters are welcome too!

First proper injection of .5 today instead of fudging it via clicks

For those who are starving, are you getting enough protein? Like, at least 120g a day. It really makes a difference to me and also helps quash sugar cravings

I need to start tracking again on mfp. I've just been coasting along since I started Ozempic enjoying it doing the work because of the appetite suppression, it's time to get to grips with it.

DorotheaDiamond · 08/02/2023 13:29

Can I get a code too please?

MaryPoppinjay · 08/02/2023 13:43

Does anybody else’s weight fluctuate aggressively? I pretty much weigh myself 4-5 times a week to get an average as my weight can fluctuate by 4-5lbs a day. This weekend I stayed at around 1200 calories with the exception of Sunday (hungover… half the previous days calories were from Champagne…not making good choices I know…) when I ate a ton of chocolate and other carbs (but probs didn’t go over 2500 calories as I missed most meals). Was back to 1200 or below Mon and Tues and weight went up yesterday by 3lbs. Now, I assumed this was water weight from the sugar/booze but not dropped it this morning.
I did have a Cream Egg (within my calorie allowance) yesterday so I’m wondering if I’m holding onto something/not losing by having some limited sugar.
I’ve previously gone full keto for a few weeks as I have PCOS and it does work but wanted to resist that path as I find it really unsustainable after a couple of weeks.
Any advice?
I also find the Juniper Scales very temperamental, the position on the floor can effect the result by a couple of lbs (so I usually take a handful of readings).

orangelous · 08/02/2023 15:03

snap i weigh myself every day first thing and the readings vary by up to 6 lbs.!!!
The only thing i'm hanging onto is that now I am
always below 13 stones no matter what. ( thank goodness) i have the juniper scales and my own salter scales but they both as bad as each other.
i tried the measurements but i don't think i'm doing them consistently accurately either.
I really don't want to buy more scales so i'm just going with the average reading and hoping for the best

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 08/02/2023 15:43

I use an app called Happy scale which plots an average line. It makes the fluctuations feel less significant.

@MaryPoppinjay @orangelous I use the machine at Boots so I can take a body fat reading too, and according to that I lost 5lb in weight but put on 6lb of fat during my first month 🙈 I'd love to find a reliable scales too! lol

Twwodoorsaway · 08/02/2023 18:44

Weigh day here, and another 400g lost, taking me to 4.5kg since I started just around 5 weeks ago. This is much better than I’ve ever managed on a diet before (I have tons to lose though). Today was my first 0.5 jab, which I did by having 2 x 0.25 from my first pen as there is still quite a lot left. I definitely notice the increase in appetite in the couple of days before my jab is due. But the lack of craving to snack is amazing. We had a meal out at the weekend, and I couldn’t finish either course which is so unlike me, but rather refreshing!

Peridot1 · 09/02/2023 08:32

I’ve weighed and appear to have gained a pound.

I have definitely been eating more. And I have been eating bread over the last couple of weeks. I think I need to give bread up really. It just makes me hungrier and want more and more. Of everything.

Happierwithouthim · 09/02/2023 08:56

I tracked on mfp yesterday 1444cals.

I was delighted with that, I even had some chocolate.

I think a fluctuation of a pound or two here and there is not significant. For example, I barely ate anything yesterday yet also appear to have gained a pound. I know I haven’t really but my scales are fairly cheap ones and not 100% accurate. Plus today I drank a cup of tea before weighing myself. Small things can affect the weight we see on the scales. Which is why I guess the official advice is to only weigh yourself once a week but I don’t have the self discipline for that.

HolibobsinApril · 09/02/2023 09:25

So its my second injection today. I weighed myself this morning and have lost 4lb.

I am really impressed with this and so so hopeful that my success continues as I am feeling that I just don't feel the urge to binge. I have avoided some carbs, but not all. I went out for dinner over the weekend and found myself choosing something quite small and tasty rather than the biggest juiciest burger I could see on the menu.

It's my birthday next week and I have a few meals out in the diary, so hopefully that will be the same too. Maybe I can try some new things rather than going for the best steak or burger. My greedy demon has left!!!

I've not calorie counted but having something small in the morning such as a few tablespoons of greek yoghurt or a small portion of porridge. For lunch I have been having one of the thin protein bagels with 2 slices of 30% less fat cheese and 2 small slices of ham. Then a fairly normal tea that's not too carby.

Maybe a small glass of wine in the evening, but not every night.

I'm really pleased - no side effects 'yet' either.

Peridot1 · 09/02/2023 09:25

Oh I know @Twiglets1 but I also know I’ve definitely been eating more and I’ve just been fluctuating since before Christmas really. Up and down like a sodding yo-yo! I wake up hungry. Even if I wake in the middle of the night I’m hungry. I don’t do anything about it but I definitely notice it.

I am also drinking too much wine. Wish I was one of those people who can’t face wine while on Ozempic. I’m going to try stopping that and see if it helps. I wonder if it affects my blood sugars as well as just being a bad idea because of the calories.

I am going to Australia for a month on Tuesday and really wanted to have lost a bit more.

Aw, sorry to hear that.
Could you up your dose after Australia or are you already on the 1 dose? It definitely sounds like it’s no longer having much effect on you if you feel hungry in the middle of the night.
Try not to worry about weight while you’re away as having a nice holiday is more important.

orangelous · 09/02/2023 09:40

Peridot- you sound just like me!!
i'm a fiend for the wine and believe if i could stop that it would be so much better all round.
Two years ago i lost 2 1/2 stones with slimming world ( all back plus a bit now!) and i think it was almost entirely due to cutting out wine.
I'm also going to Australia at Easter and would love to be fitter / slimmer.
Shall we be cut down on the wine pals? See how we get on?

HermioneWeasley · 09/02/2023 09:52

Are we at 31 pages already!

thanks @Twiglets1 for pointing out I’d put my weight update on the wrong thread on a very serious topic. Now all of MN knows my shame instead of our safe little corner!

the update was I have lost half a lb (have plateaued for a month) and therefore my scales start with an 11 which is a number I’ve not seen in a decade.

OP posts:
Peridot1 · 09/02/2023 09:55

@Twiglets1 - I’m on 1mg. It actually became less effective for me once I went up. I was doing well on 0.5 twice a week ironically. Don’t know why I switched up to 1mg. I am upping dose this week to 0.5 every three days in advice from someone at the supplier I use so will be injecting again today.

I won’t be worrying too much when away. I managed well last year - ate what I wanted but much less. My friend in Australia was also on it but has had to come off as they have no stock. I’ve bought her a pen and am bringing over for her.

@orangelous - we do sound similar! It so hard as I just love wine. And DH and I both egg each other on. I do much better if he’s not around. It doesn’t bother me at all then. Given I’m going away on Tuesday and am out tomorrow night I can’t see me stopping just now but will when I get back. But I will definitely cut back.

Peridot1 · 09/02/2023 09:56

Nice one @HermioneWeasley! Always so nice to break through to a lower number like that.

that's great well done!!!

RotundRuby · 09/02/2023 10:18

Well done at breaking through to a new stone threshold, it's a real achievement.

Thanks for all the advice I had. I've managed to secure some Ozempic - 0.25, so need to work out about clicks etc. My plan is to start Monday as I'm away this weekend.

Quite excited in a weird way, I'd love to break free from sugar and the associated mood swings plus if I could lose a stone by June I'd be thrilled.

Question, how do you all cope hormonally? My sugar cravings peak around my period, have any of your experienced changed around that time of the month?

Happierwithouthim · 09/02/2023 10:32

hermione well done on breaking through to a new stone bracket and also many thanks for starting this thread

So funny ... don't worry about it at all, I needed a bit of light relief on that oh so serious thread! Big congratulations on your weight loss, especially after the month long plateau which would have sent me to the leftover Christmas shortbread tin

You don't need to worry about the clicks when you are on 0.25 (like me currently). All you do is turn the dial to 0.25 and press the button and the clicks work automatically to administer a 0.25 dose.

I think losing a stone by June is highly achievable. The weight seems to fall off most people quickly at first, though it seems to get harder later on. I've lost half a stone already and only started in January and I don't think that's unusual. For comparison, my BMI was 33, now 31.8.

I haven't suffered hormonally at all, though I am post menopause so don't know if that makes a difference. I am definitely craving sugar a lot less than I used to though still have it in my cups of tea & coffee and the odd piece of chocolate etc

HeyMicky · 09/02/2023 10:48

Well done @HermioneWeasley. Always great to see a new number

restingwitchfaces · 09/02/2023 10:59

Congratulations @HermioneWeasley that must have felt amazing!
