Here’s a shiny new thread for everyone who’s been sharing their experiences on the original, and of course all new starters are welcome too!

Here is a graph showing frutose and fibre content - rasberries are suprisingly good. Sadly apples are worse than bananas.

I just go by how I feel. I eat apples most days and I don't feel any impact. I have them with full fat Greek yogurt though.

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 07/02/2023 21:06

I have an apple every day after lunch. And sometimes another one in the afternoon. Fruit is not our biggest problem but I guess being aware not to go too mad on it. When I started slimming world I used to have 3 -5 apples a day and when I cut down on them I lost weight a bit faster.

polopolopolopoo · 07/02/2023 21:10

I too am a sugar addict 😔

However, ozempic has removed the craving for sugar almost ENTIRELY. My daily bar of chocolate has gone from my life and all I can say is good bloody riddance and I never ever want to go back to it.

I am eating fruit at the moment, grapes, bananas, apples, oranges but am going to cut down gradually and switch to more berries.

RotundRuby · 07/02/2023 22:14

Thank you all so much, I've ordered some Ozempic, the 0.25mg dose. As my BMI is under 30 there will be some sort of online consultation tomorrow it seems. Fingers crossed though. I think it sounds like it's worth a try. I need to get the sugar under control, I actually feel like it runs my life and the blood sugar highs and lows are unbearable. I keep failing so just hearing it's reduced cravings gives me hope, even if that it just gives me a bit of a placebo to get through a sugar free month then I'd be happy. I'm ready to diet and slowly lose the full 2 stone but I need to break free from sugar cravings.

Interesting about the fruit, I'm wondering about giving that up too now. Unsurprisingly, I bloody love grapes!

@EmmaEmerald Rock Melon is a Cantaloupe Melon and yes I couldn't believe I didn't lose any weight either, but it was slightly easier to take having been living it up on kit kats, mini cheddars and tiramisu.

Prettybubblesintheair · 07/02/2023 22:16

Hi all I received my first two pens today, starting tomorrow. I’m excited and nervous! I work in a dentist and I’m taking it in with me tomorrow so one of the nurses can help me with my first dose as I’m terrified of wasting any! Very excited to start, I’ve lost 6st on my own but been stuck at the same weight for two months now. No matter how good or bad I am I either lose 1lb, gain a lb or stay the same so hoping this will help. I’m a bit confused about the needles, the instructions said about changing needle heads does it come with spares? Also how do I empty the sharps bin? I got mine from health express, planning on trying manual next time for the online coaching.

Twiglets1 · 08/02/2023 05:39

I definitely eat whatever fruit I fancy and don’t give it a second thought. For me personally, if I’m going to maintain a healthier diet long term even after I stop taking Ozempic, I have to be able to still enjoy most normal foods. Just with less craving for the chocolate & crisps hopefully.
If I restricted my fruit intake I would worry about being deficient in vitamins or fibre or other good things. I know some people have allergies to fructose or find it doesn’t agree with them. But for most people, it is still a reasonably healthy snack.

@RotundRuby they do say the 0.25 dose is more or less a placebo but it is really working for me and for lots of other people. I’m taking my third today. Should have been yesterday but I forgot and still no inclination at all to eat a big meal or multiple snacks.
In fact, I’m a bit worried because I’m going for a Chinese on Sunday with the family and I hope they don’t notice that I will barely be able to eat anything! Haven’t told them yet.

Agreed. I'm pretty sure I didn't get fat because I like fruit! I haven't gone low carb either and I'm losing weight just fine. I have upped my protein though. Whatever works, we all respond differently to food.

I went out last night to a theatre and I fitted easily into those small seats with an arm either side 😊. I had space on either side of me. Pre weight loss I'd have been anxious about fitting in and probably uncomfortable. Love those non-scale victories.

MaireadMcSweeney · 08/02/2023 06:55

I don't really like fruit so I don't eat it but apart from my chocolate cheesecake blip on Monday I just don't fancy sweet things at all. DP offered me some dark chocolate yesterday after dinner and I felt like he'd offered me some soggy spinach or something just as unappetising. The thought of sweet things holds no appeal when the drug is present. I'm not making any special changes to my diet though - I mean I'm eating the same food I usually eat just less of it and not snacking or eating sugar as I don't feel the desire to.

when I started this I thought I would commit to 6 months as I'm getting married in September and wanted to lose 2 stone but I'm starting to think I may have to do the longer haul (up to 2 years) as I really need to change my set point and habits permanently. I put on 4 stone of weight when I was pregnant 15 years ago and have bobbed around the same weight ever since. Before pregnancy my set point was 10.5 stone 😭 I doubt I'll ever achieve that again but I'd be happy at 12 stone which should be achievable by September but the last thing I was to do is go right back up again. I feel like if I can maintain 12 stone for a while then I can reset my metabolism? I also weight train and have put on a fair amount of muscle over the past couple of years (probably only a couple of lbs worth of gain in reality but I'm much stronger) so that helps the metabolic system too especially at my age (early 40s)

Haha same, I definitely count it as a win if I eat fruit instead of a bar of chocolate. I'm still eating bread, pasta, potatoes etc as well. Admittedly in smaller portions because I get full faster now.

That's great about the theatre. My tiny victory (that no one else probably notices) is that my trousers are fitting properly now. They were starting to get uncomfortably tight which led to me researching Ozempic amongst other things, because I'm too vain (& scared of diabetes tbh) to go up another dress size. Plus the expense of a whole new wardrobe of bigger clothes - nah.

Peridot1 · 08/02/2023 08:42

I agree fruit is full of good stuff but I know it definitely affected my blood sugars. I remember years ago if I was hungry as a child I would be told to eat an apple and it would just make me hungrier.

You can mitigate the effect on blood sugars however by combing fruit with protein. So having a piece of cheese with an apple. Or some Greek yoghurt with berries.

There is a book called The Glucose Revolution which is good and the author is on Instagram -The Glucose Goddess- and she posts infographics about how to eat without spiking blood sugar. It’s worth a look for those of you who do think they have blood sugar or insulin issues.

That sounds like a great NSV @Athena51. It’s those ones which make such a difference to how I feel I think. And show how far we’ve come.

I also agree with you that food affects us all differently. Physiologically we are all different which is why not everyone reacts the same and why the simplistic just eat less and move more is so annoying. I’m a carb monster. I will always crave and overeat carbs. Which is definitely which got me fat. Mainly bread. So I know I have to watch that going forward.

@RotundRuby - good luck. Is your consultation a phone one or on line? It will be interesting to see what the say. I think you are right to try to tackle it now. It’s much harder when you have much more to lose.

MiniCooperLover · 08/02/2023 08:53

Although I'm not hungry as such, I am eating normal meals at meal times but trying to make sure they're smaller: though breakfast this morning was a full bagel with butter and marmalade.. I think my period is due soon as I'm not normally bothered by carbs. Only 3 injections in so far.

BalloonArch · 08/02/2023 08:58

I'm bloody starving!
I had 3 weeks at 0.25 where it was working well. Not so well on the fourth week. I was hoping to stay on 0.25 as long as possible, but I could definitely feel it wearing off.
I was a bit scared of 0.5 so did 25 clicks on Monday. Spent all day hungry, so did the other 11 on Tuesday, making it 0.5 split over 2 doses.
I've no idea what's going on, but my stomach has been shouting "feed me!" for 2 days. I haven't fed it, it can piss off.

0.25 is not a therapeutic dose so staying on it is a false economy. I split 0.5 over 2 doses in week 3 and found it wasn't any more effective than 0.25 so I would suggest bringing your day forward and taking 0.5 in one dose. Than he nothing to be scared of.

Well I did 4 weeks on 0.25 and found it wore off in week 4 too so yest for my 5th injection I did 0.25 plus 9 clicks eg 27 total clicks (halfway between 0.25&0.5) and I’ve had bad insomnia and tummy pains and gurgling all night and awful diarrhoea today so and my first sulphur burp:/ I didn’t have this on 0.25 so even just the slight increase has added to symptoms (not unbearable so far I should add!) but luckily Work from home. Assuming appetite suitably reduced I’m hoping to do the same next week before starting 0.5. If Appetite not reduced this week I will do 0.5 next Tues.

BalloonArch · 08/02/2023 09:10

@MaireadMcSweeney I'll do that, thanks! I think I was just trying to avoid side effects, but I haven't had any at 0.25, so I've no reason to think that I'll have any at a higher dose.
I'll just power through the rest of this week and cross my fingers for next week

I didn’t have side effects at 0.25 but have sone as above at 0.38 so go slow if you don’t want any. Having said that these are mild to be fair so depends on your lifestyle/job

It's mainly because I haven't told anyone. If I started being sick I could pass it off as a bug. But not for weeks! And obviously I don't want to feel rubbish if I can help it.

Luckily yes, I work from home so mild effects will be manageable.
I don't feel like I've had any injections this week, never mind an increase, so I might just do the full 0.5 next week and maybe rethink after that.

Thanks for the heads up @SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun. I didn’t spot your offer of a referral until it was too late but I’ve just ordered. I’m going to Australia next week and staying with a friend who was on it but Australia have no stock now so I’m taking it to her. I was going to buy her perfume but I think she will prefer this as she was gutted to have to stop. Her was prescribed as she had just developed diabetes.

HeyMicky · 08/02/2023 11:24

First proper injection of .5 today instead of fudging it via clicks

For those who are starving, are you getting enough protein? Like, at least 120g a day. It really makes a difference to me and also helps quash sugar cravings
