Here’s a shiny new thread for everyone who’s been sharing their experiences on the original, and of course all new starters are welcome too!

Hi everyone. To update after my first weigh in... my weight loss is very slow going, 5lbs in 3 weeks. I am only roughly a month in now and on my second week at 0.5mg so I know I need to be patient 😇. However, I do think I'm eating too many carbs (this has always been a problem for me). I'm vegetarian and really struggling to eat enough protein. Does anyone have any advice?

I'm not overly keen on eating eggs, and I drink soya milk as cows milk doesn't agree with me. I would normally eat lots of chickpeas, lentils etc but they're high in carbs. I do eat nuts. I'm really not keen on using a protein powder unless I have to due to their ultra-processed nature.

Any advice would be gratefully appreciated!! Thank you ☺️

I'm vegan so always high in carbs and I just kind of accept that my weight loss will be quite slow but as long as it keeps going down I'm happy! I've not had the huge losses some people have had but really I've just cut out snacks and eating smaller portions than before rather than making huge changes

MaireadMcSweeney · 05/02/2023 18:53

I got them on eBay, looked up the needle size and gauge from the box they came in and 'diabetes needles' or something similar. A box of 100 is about £10

StuckInTheUpsideDown · 05/02/2023 18:56

These are the needles I bought. Have tested one then used another - worked fine.

My DP's sleep!!!!! For the record, I am not sleeping with the OP.

Not going to lie, that’s disappointing

@Peridot1 thank you.
So I'm going to start again at the end of the month and just trying to think of the best financial way to do it. I see some people are getting a 1mg pen and then counting the clicks to make it last longer- can someone please explain how to do this?

hope this link works . It's very reassuring

I've just finished listening to Giles Yeo interviewed a couple of weeks ago on Diary of a CEO podcast, it's really good.

This is going to sound a bit mad, but I'm begining to wonder if there's some link between vivid dreams and healthy insulin management. When I was naturally slim I used to have super vivid dreams a few times a week. Then they stopped (and I missed them) and they restarted in pregnancy and stopped after birth and then again in pregnancy, stopping after birth, and now again with Oz. When I have vivid dreams, I'm not constantly thinking about food and I'm able to maintain a healthy weight/ lose weight. It's probably correlation rather than causation. But I thought it interesting to note.

And I ignore the weightless advice of anyone who has never been overweight! They literally have no idea how being overweight feels. I know, I was one of them.

Twwodoorsaway · 05/02/2023 22:09

I’m catching up after a few days of not reading. I didn’t read the goady thread, and won’t now as it will annoy me. I think the whole insulin resistance/metabolic syndrome thing is really interesting. I definitely have metabolic syndrome albeit not diabetic (high blood pressure, obese) and have found a link in a medical paper that people with psoriasis are much higher risk.I’ve got psoriasis, as has my DS who also struggles. So I do think there is a genuine lack of a hormone for me to control my appetite. I’m up to 0.5mg next week so it’ll be interesting to see if that has even more of an effect. For the first time last night I ate chocolate after drinking some wine, I’ve not been tempted at all which is unlike me. I’m definitely more successful on a low carb style diet, which I’ve been doing since starting the ozempic.

I got my bike out for the first time this year this morning as I figure a bit of extra exercise can’t harm, and might help the weight loss (not getting a personal trainer though 🤨)

I was hoping for some advice. I've taken 3 lots of 0.25 and I inject on Tuesday. I found that I had side effects for longer this week but also that it's worn off quicker. Would you take the next dose a few hours earlier do you think and when do the side effects of bubbles in your mouth a also slight nausea stop?

Cozytoesandtoast00 · 06/02/2023 06:21

An update from me.
About to start week 7 and on 0.5.
Another 3.5lbs down. I seem to be consistently losing.
i am limiting my carbs a bit.
Meals are a bit like this:
Breakfast: high fat yogurt, 2 scoops protein powder. Flaxseed and fruit.
Lunch: soup/salad protein cheese

Cozytoesandtoast00 · 06/02/2023 06:24

Sorry my phone is a nightmare!
Dinner is normally protein focused. I tend to not really be hungry for dinner and so eat the veg and protein first.
Will have no alcoholic beer too and lots of water.

Lots of us have gone up to 0.5 quicker so that's fine. The tummy bubbles have come and gone but not yet gone completely for me after 6 weeks!

Twiglets1 · 06/02/2023 06:47

I will take my 3rd injection on Tuesday and my diet is completely normal. For example, yesterday I had a slice of toast with butter for breakfast and then roast pork with vegetables including a roast potato for dinner. Also had some milk chocolate (not much) & cherries. Plus a glass of wine.
On a work day I have toast or a banana for breakfast, a sandwich at lunchtime and a smallish dinner in the evening.
The difference is not what I eat but more how often I eat (far less urge to snack) plus portion size as I get full quickly. I’ve lost 5lb so far.

missfliss · 06/02/2023 07:29

My last injection doesn't seem to have had much effect - I'm Ill at the moment with a really rotten cold virus and have PMT and my appetite seems to be just there as much as ever. Not able to eat a lot at once but just craving energy foods.
Not sweating about it this week until better and then hopefully will feel more impact on injection 3 ( due Thursday)

ladyforallseasons · 06/02/2023 08:30

So i have requested the 1mg pen from QuickMeds so I can get it to last over two months at 8 jabs of 0.5mg
However QuickMeds are saying I cannot adjust the dose to give 0.5?
I seem to have read on here that it certainly is possible?
How did everyone get round this?

I've done the same, you'll have to count the clicks as the 1mg pen is only designed to administer 1mg doses at a time. Someone posted a video further up thread and for 0.5mg it's 36 clicks, it's relatively easy to do.

Peridot1 · 06/02/2023 08:58

@missfliss I was the same when I had a cold. Just wanted alllll the carbs!

@IAmBreathingIn - I think if you are vegetarian and don’t eat a lot of eggs or dairy it’s more important to just make sure you have as balanced a diet as possible so I would continue to eat the chickpeas etc. They may be high in carbs but they are very nutritious. Full of fibre etc. I think the carbs to be avoided as much as possible are all the processed carbs - white bread, cakes, biscuits etc. I add beans and lentils etc to soups and salads a lot.

Here is the link for the needles I got these from Amazon.

And this is the Ozempic dosing click chart for those of you wanting to know more about the clicks.

Food wise I initially just ate normally but a lot less as I didn’t want to be obsessing about it all but now I’m trying to limit carbs during the week and relax a bit on weekends. So breakfast is often Greek yoghurt with blueberries and a few flaked almonds and pumpkin seeds. Or eggs. Lunch is often soup - either home made or bought fresh soup and I try to get one that says it’s higher in protein. If I make soup I add in a tin of cannellini beans for more protein and to make it more filling. I quite like Ryvita so sometimes I’ll have a couple of Ryvita for lunch with cheese or tuna or hummus and tomato. Dinners are normal family meals really but I try not to have too much of whatever the carb is. I am still drinking wine. Too much really.

I’ve realised I am eating more than I was. I am thinking of upping my dose today to 1.5. Last week I took 1mg on Sunday and then 0.5 on Thursday as I was feeling much hungrier. I feel a bit odd about upping the dose. I kind of feel as if I’m cheating which is daft really! I suppose it might be the goady threads getting to me a bit.

Happierwithouthim · 06/02/2023 08:59

I didn't go up to 1mg after my 4 weeks of 0.5mg & due to nausea, then after 2 weeks like this hunger came back so I started taking it every 5 days it has kickstarted the weight loss for me. I'm now seeing 13st10.25lbs on scales this morning after weeks at 14st1lb. I'm going to get 1mg pen and try 0.75mg dose next & if nausea returns I'll go back to 0.5mg every 5 days.

ladyforallseasons · 06/02/2023 09:00

@RebelGeek76 did Quickmeds tell you it wasn't possible to split doses? They've told me the doses come out in 1mg shots and I can't make the doses smaller!
I think they're getting lots of us asking and they're not going to make money?
