Fresh new year, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9st. I had a blip a couple of years ago when my thyroid went wonky but now back on track.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

PS - In the coming days I’ll post some links which some members might find useful. Feel free to share your own links, recipes and photos too 😊

@Cloudberries123 thank you - you’ve made me feel it’s ok to admit I just had some Christmas cake!

My day today is not what I would normally have when dieting as i would usually low carb but:

Breakfast - porridge and half a banana
Lunch - chicken fajitas
And a slice of Christmas cake just with a cup of tea. But I’m super proud of myself for just having a sensible piece and not returning to binge loads to get it finished!

@123ROLO you’re starting in good time, you’ll be able to lose loads before your wedding! My Louise Parker book says to just keep visualising that moment you want, like sitting on your holiday with a glass of wine feeling great in your holiday clothes that you’ve fit back into. I’m sure if you think of that ‘moment’ you want to have on your wedding day it will keep you going! (Louise Parker says nothing about eating Christmas cake though, so what do I know!)

buzzofthebumblebee · 02/01/2023 21:22

Goodness @greenspaces4peace - poor you. Sounds awful.

Welcome to everyone new. Sorry can't name check everyone, but you are all very welcome.

Day 2 done.
B - blueberries, yoghurt, seeds
L - yesterday lunch leftovers - roast squash, salad, salmon
D - cod, spanish grains mix, chorizo & roast veg
S - apple slices with spoon peanut butter

Most importantly - i.e. the hardest bit - no sugar, no alcohol, no bread

Smugsmaug · 02/01/2023 22:07

123ROLO Well done on taking the first steps!

Just checking in to say, first day done! Not super amazing but it’s a start.

Food: Steak and avocado sandwich, and a double portion of homemade fruit crumble with cream
Exercise: housework and very brief stroll

Nearly caved in to snacks and choc, distracted myself with extra helping of pudding. And had irritable snappy moments throughout the day. For me that first day mindset shift is the toughest, so glad to get it out the way instead of putting it off. Which I did almost do! Tomorrow back to reality, lots to catch up on so should keep me distracted. Made the spicy soup today so will be having that tomorrow. And will aim to hit around 8-10k steps tomorrow. Reminding myself I will thank myself at the end of the week and that I’ll feel so much better. At the moment feeling tired and bloated and generally blurgh!

Good luck everyone!

AutisticLegoLover · 02/01/2023 22:17

I'm not doing anything in particular at the moment except not stuffing my face. Dry cereal for breakfast and 2 cups of tea, Viking bread to see how it tastes, homemade lentil soup and dumplings, 4 chocolates.

I've now put the chocolates away because I've decided don't actually like them very much at all. The dc haven't been eating them either so I've put them away and we will take them on holiday with us. Next year I don't think I'll bother with the Quality Street and M&S version of them. Ivd hardly eaten any crisps over Christmas either. A portion of sweet chilli and sour cream kettle chips and a handful of cheese Doritos. I don't know what's wrong with me as usually I'd eat most of a bag of those no problem.

Tomorrow is shopping delivery day and I've ordered lots of fresh fruit and veg. Im going to dehydrate some mango and papaya for the dc snacks and might do some apple too. I've never dehydrated anything before but we all love dried mango, just not the price,

No exercise today but tomorrow I'll get a walk in.

LollipopViolet · 02/01/2023 22:18

Today was good - cereal for breakfast, polished off the last of the Christmas cheeses on 2 slices of toast, then braised beef with mash and carrots for dinner. No snacks, I've drunk more water and dropped my fizzy drink count down from 2 a day to just 1.

Lunch for tomorrow is sorted, as is dinner for the next 2 nights (I live with family and mum is working 12 hours each day, so we cook things that are nice for her to reheat at night when she gets home on days she works).

I've got this.

Candy500 · 02/01/2023 22:22

I would also like to join. 13st for four yrs now and nothing works. Working from home and hate going out for walks as then there is no time for lunch.. so end up not going out or going out on a depressing lonely walk. For those who work from home whats your schedule of eating and exercise?

lipstickwoman · 02/01/2023 22:29

Finding others daily menus really helpful and inspiring. me..

AllBran and a banana
Homemade veg soup
Chicken breast, stuffing, boiled potatoes and veg
Small bowl icecream ( finished and won't be replaced)
A handful of crisps

No booze

Scales haven't moved but I'm holding on in there...

Newyearnewarse · 02/01/2023 22:43

First day tomorrow for me. Back to work and looking at meal planning this evening.

Loving reading everyone's positivity.

First goal is to increase step count daily , more sleep and more water. Snacking is my downfall and bread.

Good luck to all. I am going to brave the scales in the morning which I am not looking forward to.

AutisticLegoLover · 02/01/2023 22:51

@Candy500 do you have a gym ball? I got mine out of the loft after a Fitbit thread on here a few years back. A few of us be and fitbit friends and do challenges still. One poster swapped her regular desk chair for a gym ball and found her stomach flatter as a result of always having to engage her core. I use mine to bounce on while watching tv if my step count for the day needs a boost. It counts bounces as steps so sort of cheating but still exercise with little effort. I live walking and don't drive so have no choice but if you don't like walking then is there other exercises you do enjoy? I'd love to be able to run but my joints refuse so walking it is. I like cycling too but I don't get chance.

Candy500 · 02/01/2023 22:56

I also would like to run seems to give me knee pain and leg circulation pain. Looking for a you tube workout over 50s type. Thanks for the tip but Not sure about the gym ball - desk chair space is v limited / awkward as it is. Need a daily schedule overhaul...

greenspaces4peace · 02/01/2023 23:11

so far so good over here; usual am fast (from 5:30pm to 0930am)
multivit, fiber and water underway as well as 35 minutes of fitness walking ✅
b: oatmeal, honey, fruit stew 240 cal
l: toast, butter, boiled egg, carrot/celery/red pepper sticks 219 cal
s: chilli rice bowl. i'm using chronometer and there is a listing for homemade chili (my recipe is pretty standard so will use that stock info) it's 190 calories for 200 gms. i'll start with that. i have avocado, cheese, lettuce and some rice to layer with it. depending on the count i may not have much rice.
the macro's suggest i've had abundant carbs already today (no i'm not really watching carbs).
i see no reason why i will not do my second fitness walk or drink my second liter of water.

123ROLO · 02/01/2023 23:28

Thank you for the welcome

I don't know how I let myself get this way, I don't feel like 'me'. I'm constantly covering up, and I'm terrified of catching my bodies reflection while out, I walk past shop windows with my head down and will only have sex in the dark.

It's weird as I have plenty of friend's who are bigger than me, but they all look gorgeous and carry weight so well. I just really don't suit any extra weight at all.

I have no excuses, I actually lose weight pretty easy when i put my mind to it. I've just been so lazy and thoughtless last couple of years.

But anyway. It all changes! 9 months to shed 3 stone. Basically 1 stone every 3 months, that's only 4 pounds a month, roughly 1 pound a week.

According to Dr Google, on average a 500 cal deficit a day loses a pound, so I think daily cals of around 1200 - 1800 should work for me.

I love reading what people eat, as it gives me ideas.

Plantmoretrees86 · 03/01/2023 05:39

Made a decent start yesterday, ate well apart from finishing off the last of the Christmas Bailey's! Have extra calories to play with on nutracheck thanks to breastfeeding so it feels quite manageable. Also completed 30 mins of yoga (yoga with Adriene, January challenge) and 2 hours walking with the pram.

Baby has been up multiple times tonight though and I've barely slept so I doubt I'll get through tomorrow without at least some sugar! Any tips for resisting cravings when you are completely and utterly exhausted?

greenspaces4peace · 03/01/2023 06:07

Sorry @Plantmoretrees86 i sadly resign myself to a not so great moment and focus on the following day. Try and limit the harm, drink tea? Veggie sticks.

milkfromthesleepycow · 03/01/2023 06:21

@AutisticLegoLover what's Viking bread? Sounds intriguing!

@Plantmoretrees86 marinated chicken slices or ham? I've got a little weighed out pot in my fridge that constitutes my picky snacks along with the traditional carrot sticks (bloody love carrots and have to ration myself 😂)

Reasonable day yesterday but ate half a cheesecake slice at MILs out of politeness as she'd made it for me. At one point I would have packed it up to take home and just not eaten it so need to channel that mindset again.
Plodding on

SunshineBoy · 03/01/2023 06:35

Good morning everyone!

I hope you all have good days. I’m trying to set a conscious positive intention every morning to adjust my mindset and thought I’d do it here so…

Today I will drink more water and pause before reaching for food to ask myself if I really need this or if I’m snacking out of habit to distract myself from something.

just off to do day 3 of my yoga challenge.

Morning all. Back to work, bleurgh. I work from home and eat constantly to reward myself, so will be working on that from today.

LilyGlobe · 03/01/2023 07:34

I’d like to join if that’s ok?

I need to lose 6-7kg to get back to where I feel comfortable. I’m starting today, weighed in, measurements taken.
Plan is to calorie count (although I never find this easy with bolognese, etc!), gym 3x a week (one with a PT) and home workouts 2x a week. I’m getting over a foot operation so walking is limited but I’d like to get to 10000 steps a day within the next 2 weeks (should be easy with the school run starting again!)

The real test is what I eat though. I’ve spent 2 months eating crap and drinking too much. I need to sort that out.

Newyearnewarse · 03/01/2023 07:35

Morning all

I faced the scales......... 15:2 which although it is no surprise I am still gutted.
Off to work soon and my plan today is fruit , soup and a chicken tray bake with lots of veg for dinner. I am pretty good at water when I am at work, much better than at home for some reason. At least 1.5 litres during the working day.

Also need to move more, 10000 steps is my goal but in all honestly if I move more than yesterday and then again more tomorrow that will be good enough for now.
What I normally do is start off having low cals and high exercise and then I fail. This time I need to realise that it will take a long time and sadly there is no quick fix.

Good luck all.

ginsparkles · 03/01/2023 07:41

Good morning, so I weighed in this morning and the news was grim! 12st 5. It is the time of the month but still depressing.

Have wallowed for a minute and am now planning!

Today I am back to work, focus and distraction.
Breakfast porridge with sultanas
Lunch ham salad with coleslaw, followed by fruit and yoghurt
Dinner old faithful.... jacket potato with beans and a bit of cheese

Allowing myself enough calories for a banana to snack on.

Goal is to lose 2 stone. It's good to be back!

Wafflefudge · 03/01/2023 08:54

Yesterday's meals were:

  • smoothie
  • half carton Covent garden chicken soup and leftover quiche
-apple -carrot soup, slice of cheese, apple Did yoga again yesterday and a short run. Hoping to do yoga everyday this month.
ImALittlePea · 03/01/2023 09:01

Morning gang

Lovely to see a few more familiar posters from last year! @123ROLO @ginsparkles 👋

Yesterday was ok(ish). Bubble and squeak lunch was divine, and then we took the kids out for a long and verrrrrry slow walk (2yo on the balance bike 😂). Ended up having a PB sandwich and crisps for dinner 🤦‍♀️ and then was still hungry so had five crackers with some boursin and cambozola blue brie. Whoopsie!

Today's full reset has been scuppered by the 8yo having a fever overnight and therefore not going back to school. So we're all holed up for the day. Hopefully he'll be well enough to go tomorrow. Going to try and not let it derail me by tricking my mind/stomach into thinking weekend rules will still apply.

Plan 🤞
Lunch - cup-a-soup, veggies and a dairylea triangle 😁 might have to throw a couple of crackers onto the plate as well while I wean my calories down again
Dinner - bacon, pepper, pea and pesto risotto

Trying to up water intake today 💦

Have a positive Tuesday everyone!

Patchworksack · 03/01/2023 09:49
