Fresh new year, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9st. I had a blip a couple of years ago when my thyroid went wonky but now back on track.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

PS - In the coming days I’ll post some links which some members might find useful. Feel free to share your own links, recipes and photos too 😊

I DO NOT LIKE the scales at the gym - they show me a a kg heavier than my home scales 😡😡 obviously broken (flounces off in the huff)

emptythelitterbox · 03/01/2023 10:23

I was planning to only weigh on Saturday but I was feeling like I just wanted to eat a lot so I decided to weigh myself instead and it seems I've lost 1.5lbs. That was motivation not to eat a lot.
I do like seeing what everyone's menus are.
I won't post mine as I'm ND and tend to eat the same things so it would look odd posting it.

ginsparkles · 03/01/2023 10:27

waving back to @ImALittlePea ! Hope the wee one is feeling better soon.

Nice to "see" so many friendly faces.

Plantmoretrees86 · 03/01/2023 10:32

@milkfromthesleepycow I like the idea of little pots in the fridge - thinking cheese cubes and olives would be good. And hard boiled eggs

buzzofthebumblebee · 03/01/2023 10:33

@Patchworksack - Wednesday is tomorrow !! I spent all of monday thinking it was tuesday. Just checked calendar again now in case I was wrong

milk - but gym scales are clearly wrong !

AutisticLegoLover · 03/01/2023 10:39

I appear to have gained 3lb. How rude! I think that should quickly go this next week. I hope so anyway. Waitrose has just been delivered with lots of fresh fruit and veg, lentils, pearl barley and loveliness.

😆I have totally lost track. Definitely time to have lost at least half a stone by tomorrow!

ImALittlePea · 03/01/2023 11:05

I too get a lot of inspiration from seeing what others eat @123ROLO and you'll see that my lunches tend to be very repetitive (on good weeks anyway) @emptythelitterbox 😁

Patchworksack · 03/01/2023 11:05

@SingaporeSlinky well done for completing your first Parkrun ! I trotted round a NYD one with my 8 yr old DD. Such a good way to start the year.

AutisticLegoLover · 03/01/2023 11:06

Ds keeps not believing me when I say what day it is and asks me to check. Cherry monkey. I'm either a day ahead or behind, rarely on the correct day until I've checked but he asks me once I've checked and gets me to recheck. I'm at the stage of wanting school to be back but also not wanting the stress of the school mornings. I miss my Fitbit challenges and the walking and fresh air. I feel lethargic and bleurgh. The weather isn't helping.
I've noticed that despite the gained pounds my stomach is still a lot flatter and my jeans fit better.

SingaporeSlinky · 03/01/2023 11:22

Thank you @Patchworksack I can’t say it will be a regular occurrence, I’ve never been able to get into running, but definitely felt like a healthy intention for the year ahead.

@Candy500 if you don’t have time to go outside for a walk during your lunch break, I would just do a 5 or 10 minute bout of exercise inside. Anything is better than nothing, and building good habits will help. Even walking up and down the stairs 5 times before you sit to eat, or some squats or lunges. Sometimes I do squats while I brush my teeth, it’s just a case of using your time when you have it. Even getting the vacuum out makes me sweat sometimes, so kills two birds. I saw a Doctor talking on a tv show yesterday, saying most people can hit the gym and change eating for a few weeks, but it’s unrealistic long term to say you’ll do 4 spin classes every week as life gets in the way. So he said small goals that can easily become habits are the way to go, so he does a 5 minute workout in his kitchen while he brews his coffee. So he makes that coffee every morning, so no reason why he’d stop, he’s just incorporating the extra exercise with it.

Lemonyfuckit · 03/01/2023 11:57

Late to the party but can I join please? Haven't dated weigh myself yet, but will have at least 3 stone to lose and feeling so bloated and sluggish after Christmas, I really need a reset. I like exercise but have fallen out of the habit after a very stressful couple of years, and will get back into calorie counting with MFP, and thinking of doing 16:8 or 5:2.

Ninjachicken · 03/01/2023 12:11

Hi all, I would love to join please. I would like to lose a stone (at least). Christmas has been excessive with too much or everything. I need a reset and some motivation!! Good luck everyone

CumbrianExile · 03/01/2023 15:39

Hey everyone.

Good to see others menus for some food ideas!

So, I started yesterday and it's going well so far haha. Although my Fitbit died yesterday, luckily still in warranty so I'm now waiting a new one to be delivered. I still dragged the DC out for a muddy walk yesterday though. Also managed to get out for a swim this morning, before taking the kids to soft play this morning. I drank water and didn't buy myself chocolate, which was hard 😂

Cloudberries123 · 03/01/2023 15:41

Is it Wednesday already where you are @Patchworksack 😁

Ok, a decent day so far. Brisk hilly walk to work.

Breakfast - 2x rye toast with cream cheese and homemade jam. Coffee

Work snacks - 2x bananas, apple, water

Lunch - wholemeal wrap with fried egg, few bits of cheddar, cucumber, mustard. 3-4 Christmas chocolates, tea

Dinner - DP cooking but hopefully lamb rump plus rice and veggies! This is going to be a skint month so have the prospect of lots of healthier, simpler dinners ahead which isn't a bad thing.

Baby's up - will reply to posts later x

SanFranBear · 03/01/2023 15:59

Helloooo - still got both DC here today so still feels rather holiday-like!

Me and DS did make it out for some swimming so that's something and I've not eaten a huge amount yet today. Lots of tea, though, and no water!

So today - two soft boiled eggs and soldiers for brunch and then I think homemade popcorn chicken for tea.

Looking forward to DC going back to school tomorrow... I'm back at work too but due a visit from my FWB so a WFH day for me 😄 Candy500 - you asked how others monitor their food when they WFH a lot.. I'm almost always at home and it's a struggle! I guess key is not to have too many 'treats' in the house (hard after Xmas!) and stick to mealtimes. I'm not really a breakfast person but if I make sure I have something by about 9, I almost always last until lunch.

I shall weigh on Friday - not looking forward to it!!

123ROLO · 03/01/2023 17:14

Breakfast - skipped as woke up much later than planned

Lunch - porridge (not ideal but need to do a big shop)

Dinner - going to make jerk chicken, sweet potato and greens

Should be ending day on about 1300 cals

ImALittlePea · 03/01/2023 17:49

DH suggested chippy tea tonight as it's been a much longer day for all of us than we thought 😬 but I said NO and we had risotto as planned. Absolutely delish and bonus is DD loves it and it makes me disproportionately happy when she eats well!

Have decided to log on MFP again as of today... According to that, having just input my recipe for risotto, lunch and many teas over the day, my calories for the day so far is 883. However, on top of the logged meals I've done some mindless grazing that I'm finding it hard to quantify.. including - the last quarter of DD's sandwich at lunch, two chewits, one celebration mars bar, half a piece of garlic bread, a slice of DS's pizza, and a few pilfered chips. Oh, and a side of green beans with my risotto to add as well. So, no idea what my final total for the day is, but not ridiculously high I don't think??

milkfromthesleepycow · 03/01/2023 18:09

@ImALittlePea I totted up what I think that amounts to- you should still be well under 1500

And thank you. It's kept me from going to the cafe to get a packet of crisps while I'm stuck at the kids swimming lessons and I haven't had my dinner yet!!

I will now keep repeating 'I am an adult, I can wait' for the next 45 minutes 😂

buzzofthebumblebee · 03/01/2023 18:13

Think logging on to MFP is very sensible @ImALittlePea . It really helps focus and be accountable doesn't it?

Had impromptu lunch of chilli chicken ramen. It was delicious. Far too many noodles than I should have had, but was so delicious, and a treat to eat out that I scoffed the lot. Very salty though. That doesn't bode well for WOW.

No ida what to do for dinner. Something small for me. Might nip out for cauli and roast that with cumin. Your dinner sounds delish @123ROLO - love spicy chicken.

I may have said ages ago, but I get a lot of satisfaction from biting and chewing. OK, I admit it, I'm greedy and eat big portions !!! But realise that if what I'm eating is tasty vegetables e.g. roast squash or cauliflower, then it's not too bad?

Boobs seem to have shrunk - but maybe my imagination / wishful thinking. Far too soon, surely? Sugar / alcohol really makes me bloat. Looking forward to my face gaining some shape too rather than just round.

Hope today has been OK for everyone. NO SNACKING THIS EVENING

ImALittlePea · 03/01/2023 18:45

Yes I've totted it up too and think about another 350 calories or so @milkfromthesleepycow

RadFad · 03/01/2023 19:04

I’m usually more of a lurker on these threads but will see if posting a bit more regularly helps keep me motivated.

I weighed in this morning at 17st 7lb so I actually managed to maintain over the Christmas/New Year week. I’m hoping for 7lb off in January.

Food wise I had:
B: Weetabix
L: Cheese on toast with carrot sticks
D: Spicy bean burgers and chips
Snacks: Fruit and a babybel

I aim for 1800 cals a day with plan to reduce when weight loss halts as I have quite a lot to lose and know I won’t keep at it if I aim for something like 1200-1500 cals from the off.

At home with both DC today and the bickering has been next level. I’m proud I didn’t dive into the biscuit tin just to survive. We are all ready for work/nursery/school tomorrow.

Tomorrow is my first go at exercising before work. I’ve set my alarm for 5.30 and need to leave for work/nursery drop off at 8.15 so should be manageable. I’ve even roped DH into getting up at same time and going for a run to help keep me motivated.

milkfromthesleepycow · 03/01/2023 19:12

@ImALittlePea I'm sure yours is more accurate as I was guessing at sandwich content and what your DS likes on his pizza 😂 but genuinely was a welcome distraction- I ate lunch too early and so am now famished for dinner!

Welcome @RadFad. Very sensible calorie allowance as you say you can always adjust it later. I'll be joining you tomorrow in the early morning exercise. ish- not in the gym until 7, just think you'll be finished by then and having a cup of tea!

milkfromthesleepycow · 03/01/2023 19:24

Beef enchiladas- better be worth the wait!!!

Breakfast was a cup of tea and a toasted muffin
Lunch cup of tea and 2 shortbread biscuits and a large tangerine
Dinner homemade mushroom and Wensleydale cheese soup with baguette and butter
I've no idea

I've found all the multivitamins and we have all started those again.
