Fresh new year, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9st. I had a blip a couple of years ago when my thyroid went wonky but now back on track.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

PS - In the coming days I’ll post some links which some members might find useful. Feel free to share your own links, recipes and photos too 😊

Waves to @buzzofthebumblebee !

Thanks all for being understanding and lovely. I'm back I won't disappear x

Aftertheharvest · 19/01/2023 23:28

@Ninjachicken fingers crossed for that under 10 stone mini target 😀intermittent fasting works for me but loss a lot slower this side of forty so will see if I can up my 1lb a week trend.

@AutisticLegoLover i’m with you on the real food but in moderation, when I was calorie counting I got a real shock on how much was in a scrape(!) of butter.

ImALittlePea · 20/01/2023 07:23

Morning all!

1lb off this week - and back in the 9s. Hurrah!

Slowly slowly catchy monkey 🐵

AutisticLegoLover · 20/01/2023 07:37

62.6kg still but very erm, tmi, bunged up. It's great to be under 10stone too.
Porridge and tea for breakfast. I was/still am hungry.

TheRealHousewife · 20/01/2023 08:24

Happy Friday ❤️

@SingaporeSlinky Well done on getting back into the gym 👍

@WhatWouldTheDoctorDo Tasty menu you shared 😋. Once you get in the right headspace (and eating protein to keep satiated) the sweet treat snacking should stop.

@ImALittlePea Well done on shouting down the wine! Fabulous resolve! Great loss there and welcome back into the 9s 👍

@ginsparkles Welcome back lovely. Mind shift and reset required. You can do it!

@Cloudberries123 Hope you and baby got some well deserved rest!

@greenspaces4peace I love Hobbs dresses. Really good cut and quality.

@LollipopViolet sounds a very cool scale! Enjoy seeing yourself transform!

@buzzofthebumblebee Tasty menu! I’ve been craving a nice dahl all week! Might knock one up next week as this weeks menu is planned and waiting to be eaten.

@AutisticLegoLover I sometimes venture onto other threads and have a look 👀. Fruit is a necessary part of a varied and balanced diet. The fibre it provides is very good for us, never mind all the vits and minerals it contains. Fad diets don’t work 😬

Menu
Meal 1 - Overnight oats & chia with chopped walnuts, dates, semi skimmed milk and Greek yoghurt. 1/2 Portion minestrone soup. Not served together 😬
Meal 2 - Home made Spicy Chicken egg fried rice and Katsu curry sauce. Small apple.

Tea, black coffee and water.

Exercise
Session 1 - Walking vid.
Session 2 - Hand weights.

Good to see you back @TheRealHousewife and congrats to those who are showing losses. This is my first time on one of these threads, can I just ask how long people thing they’ll be doing this for? (As my earliest possible end date is August and that’s without any hiccups on the journey)

Meal plan for the day:
Breakfast - toasted bagel with Lurpak Light (Friday treat breakfast!)
Lunch - Chicken stir-fry with rice
Dinner - Salmon salad (might add a small jacket potato if hungry) + Berries and yogurt

TheRealHousewife · 20/01/2023 10:46

Thank you @Bumblebeehum , that's kind of you. In answer to your question ... which you might not like depending on how you are navigating your weight loss. I always advocate for sustainable lifestyle changes. Nothing banned, no fad diets, no deprivation. Just healthy and nutritious varied foods, exercise if able, get quality sleep, reduce stress etc. Easy to say and I realise it takes tenacity and dedication to follow through. However if you can achieve and maintain healthy habits not only will you reach your desired weight but you will improve your health markers too!

Happy Friday everyone!

Was planning to wait till Sunday to weigh after getting new scales delivered but curiosity got the better of me. 6lb down since 8th January!

SW: 12st 10lb
CW: 12st 4lb
GW: 10st 7lb

Food plan for today:

Breakfast: special k semi skimmed milk
Lunch: left over beef stew
Dinner: homemade flatbread pizza

Hope everyone is staying motivated/finds the lost willpower :)

ginsparkles · 20/01/2023 11:21

Hey all.... I promised and so here I am!

Stepped on the scales to hold myself accountable! 12st exactly. I'm not sure why but the gluten free food seems to not help. Can't work out if it's the food, my mindset or both. Probably both. Anyway I can only change the mindset, DD's consultant wants her to be gluten and lactose free for another 12 months. Then we'll test her for coeliac. I need to get my head into healthy eating which can accommodate her dietary needs.
Ddog and I have signed up to doing 99K in feb for the dogs trust so that should get me bum moving!

Todays plan :
Cereal bar for breakfast
Sweet chilli noodle salad for lunch
Out for dinner tonight with my mum so lord only knows! Grin

Thanks for having me back !

milkfromthesleepycow · 20/01/2023 11:28

(Creeping in quietly)

Bad start to the month. Been hitting the sugar for no good reason. Changes today.

AutisticLegoLover · 20/01/2023 11:36

Well done @FTB2022 that's amazing!

Welcome @Bumblebeehum. That doesn't sound like much food. A bagel isn't really a treat, it's just standard food. I think it's important not to demonise food but to see it for what it is: fuel for the body. It's a hard thing to do to change your thinking when we are socialised, especially as women, to associate certain foods with negative things like sin, gluttony, failure, disgust, and many others. It's just good, it doesn't have that kind of power. The power is ours and we need to use that power to change our own mindsets instead of beating ourselves up about what we eat.

SingaporeSlinky · 20/01/2023 11:44

@Bumblebeehum do you mean will the thread stay active? I think that’s what you meant, since you’re saying you want to still be here beyond August. If so, the threads are monthly and have been going for years, very actively. Of course, some people drop off after a few days, some a few months, some like me dip in and out but there is a good core of active members, so you’ll certainly have company.

I definitely find the more actively I read and post, the more accountable I am to myself. I’ll certainly be here for the next 3 months (I’m trying to shape up for holiday again).

SingaporeSlinky · 20/01/2023 11:45

No gym for me today, but I met a friend for a walk, and she tracked it as over 7 miles. I’ve just sat down with a coffee and my legs are twitching 😂

TheRealHousewife · 20/01/2023 11:50

Thank you @SingaporeSlinky fir addressing @Bumblebeehums post 😬. Silly me getting the wrong end of the stick 😅

buzzofthebumblebee · 20/01/2023 11:50

That's a great loss @FTB2022 - and inspiring for us! Keep up good work.

Big wave to Gin & Milk. Sugar so easily done Milk. How about a bunch of daffs as a treat this weekend instead? You'll be back into the 11s again in no time Gin. You've got this.

Bumble - i've been around on & off with this lovely lot for over a year. I go in spurts - but knowing the wonderful @TheRealHousewife keeps the thread going is so good for support and accountability. No judgement if you do have a blip.

I had a sneaky weigh in today and despite my extra food yesterday I have dropped another 1lb since WOW. Hurray. Just need to keep it off this weekend now. Agree that digestion plays a big part Autistic !!!

Happy Friday all.

TheRealHousewife · 20/01/2023 11:55

@buzzofthebumblebee well done on your loss👍 And I concur what @AutisticLegoLover says about digestion… also the gut micro biome. Weight loss/gain is quite a complicated affair due to the many variables … that’s why we all have to find our own way by taking into account our own make up. We are all wonderfully unique.

TheRealHousewife · 20/01/2023 12:02

@ginsparkles in regards to testing for celiac disease in my case they tested for the autoimmune antibodies that are only present if you’ve ingested gluten (I think I have that right) If your DD totally eliminates gluten there shouldn’t be any antibodies present thus giving a false negative if that makes sense. Testing might have changed since I was diagnosed. Fingers crossed your DD doesn’t have celiac 🤞

FTB2022 · 20/01/2023 12:16

Thanks @AutisticLegoLover and @buzzofthebumblebee!

I think it's just because I've only just started, but definitely the motivation I need to keep going! Helps that my partner is also trying to lose weight.

Totally agree with the poster who said it's important not to demonise certain foods. Will only make you binge when you do give in! I've shocked myself by taking a couple of segments of chocolate orange then putting it back. Unprecedented willpower!!

Bumblebeehum · 20/01/2023 12:17

Ah yes @SingaporeSlinky and @TheRealHousewife my post was more about ‘I’m here for a v long haul, who’s with me?’ Kind-of-thing. Good to know it’ll still be going all year!

@AutisticLegoLover toasted bagel is more of a treat than my usual bran cereal, but I do hear you. I’m getting used to a higher cal level than I’ve been doing so lots of additional things feel like treats now.

SingaporeSlinky · 20/01/2023 12:24

I had good intentions yesterday (don’t we all) but got to about 3pm and hubby made me a coffee, which I then added to with 2 chocolate bars 🫣

Today’s plan
B: coffee
L: apple skyr with granola, chia seeds and flax seeds
D: chicken soup and sourdough bloomer

Ninjachicken · 20/01/2023 12:56

Finding it difficult not to snack today. Came on here for some motivation. It really does help reading what everyone else is eating/doing.
@SingaporeSlinky i have just had chocolate with my coffee too 😳
@ImALittlePea well done on resisting the wine. I’m going to try for my third Friday wineless tonight
todays food plan:
B: cereal
L: poached eggs and avocado toast
D: leftover steak and salad
snacks: apparently too much chocolate

AutisticLegoLover · 20/01/2023 13:00

I want to snack too. I've just made myself a cup of tea instead. I've missed my crumpets today. The shop didn't have any. Two babybel lights and a shortbread biscuit just aren't the same and I e just remembered I didn't eat dinner yesterday so it's no wonder I'm hungry 🙄

SingaporeSlinky · 20/01/2023 13:02

@Ninjachicken the only way I can resist temptation is not to buy it in the first place. We still have chocs leftover from Christmas, so it’s hard. But once it’s gone, I just won’t buy any more. I can try and pretend to myself that I’ll keep it in the cupboard for once in a while, but in reality I’ll have it nearly every day. What worked for me last time was only buying snacks for the kids that I don’t like, so for example those fudge bars. I’m not bothered, so even if I was peckish, I wouldn’t eat one, and it’s no temptation.

Ninjachicken · 20/01/2023 13:07

@AutisticLegoLover some days are like that aren’t they. Cold weather does not help!
@SingaporeSlinky definately a good idea to buy things I don’t like for the kids. I do try that but I found a sneaky Milky Way still hiding from Christmas today

going to go for a walk soon to distract myself and try and close my rings

AutisticLegoLover · 20/01/2023 13:10

I'm having one of my oatmeal cranberry cookies with my tea. It's full of oats and cranberries as well as sugar and butter so it covers all the bases there 😁 My house is cold and only 14 degrees. My nose is cold. I was going to put the heating on as I'd already got a hot water bottle and was still cold but then I came Jed my usage for far and my bill is up to £170 already this month so I've grabbed a blanket from ds's room instead. The bills are scary..
