Fresh new year, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9st. I had a blip a couple of years ago when my thyroid went wonky but now back on track.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

PS - In the coming days I’ll post some links which some members might find useful. Feel free to share your own links, recipes and photos too 😊

Good Morning @TheRealHousewife it was so lovely to wake up to a sea of green posts from you, it's me fallfall who has decided to stay on my feet for the rest of the decade (at least)!
Holding steady at 150.2
B: 238 calories

I'll post the lunch snack and supper calories once i've made it through the day.
I always have good plans but an easily derailed by dh ;)

AutisticLegoLover · 18/01/2023 19:19

I veered from my planned soup and had pasta with tomato and mascarpone sauce with sweet corn and broccoli thrown in. I don't really like broccoli but I eat it sometimes to be good and set a good example up the dc. I weighed everything. I've got into that habit again using mfp. I got a really good portion of pasta for the calories and felt satisfied.
I am knackered tonight and I'm waiting for ds to be in bed then I'm going to bed with a book and hot water bottle. No ball bouncing tonight, rest day. I've walked over 8 miles and hit all my Fitbit targets and I'm happy with that.

takingcareofme2023 · 18/01/2023 20:35

@TheRealHousewife Thank you for the encouragement! I agree with all you’ve said. I am continuing to improve after horrid chest infection so have been doing some Joe Wicks beginner workouts and went out for a gentle jog yesterday…perked me up mentally. I am also continuing to drink 2litres water a day…with newly purchased bottle with times on. Trying to up fruit and veg too and be more mindful of sweet treats…Next target more and better quality sleep…
1lb off this week, that’ll do for now.
SW 14st
CW 13 st 13
TW 13st 7 ( intermediate target)
Love and encouragement to all xx

Aftertheharvest · 18/01/2023 20:56

it’s slow and steady for me with another 1lb off this week but feeling less bloated already, hoping to be under 10st again by the end of January but that may be overly ambitious…

SW: 146 lbs
CW: 143.25 lbs
GW: 132 lbs

greenspaces4peace · 18/01/2023 21:24

@takingcareofme2023 i'm a big fan of my motivational water bottle. 1L down and it's only 1pm here in canada.
lunch has gone as planned despite dh putting a bunch of grapes on my plate...he was agreeable to take most himself leaving me with 35 calories worth "for color"
L: toast with cream cheese, boiled egg, grape tomatoes and grapes. 245 calories
1x 30 minutes of leslie fitness walking with another 30 minutes planned.
danger zone of 2:30 till 4pm soon upon me.
plan to have celery and hummus vs cheese with my coffee (which btw has a load of honey and steamed milk) dh makes it for me, it's kind of a bonding thing as i really dislike the coffee bit and would happily stick to just the milk and honey.

AutisticLegoLover · 19/01/2023 07:42

62.6kg this morning yay! A small drop but a drop all the same.

I don't like water bottles. I've tried many but they all taint the water. I also

AutisticLegoLover · 19/01/2023 07:43

Only like it very ice cold so it needs to be fresh out of the tap and with ice unless it's winter and it comes out cold anyway.

Ninjachicken · 19/01/2023 08:33

Thank you @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo I think I need to meal plan more. Only just discovered PoN due to someone mentioning it on here but it looks great. Made their butter chicken at the weekend and it was really tasty.
@Aftertheharvest i too would love to be under 10 stone by the end of Jan. Fingers crossed!
B: not sure yet, may try tea and wait until lunch
L: carrot soup, naan bread
D: some kind of stir fry but will try for extra veg and no carb
snacks: TBC!!!!!

did joe wicks beginner yesterday and am trying to do every other day but will keep my steps up and I may look for a good strength training one to do on alternate days. Any recommendations welcome 😁

I finally got back to the gym today, hooray! But, I managed to eat an entire pack of posh biscuits yesterday. I don’t know why, it’s like self sabotage. When I hear other people say “I’ll start tomorrow, so for tonight I’ll enjoy myself and have once last blow-out” I always think why, why not just start right now, and then you’re not starting from an even worse place, with a ton of extra calories to burn off. So I really don’t know why I did it to myself. Anyway, onwards and downwards!

Wasn’t ready to jump back into classes as I’ve not been for about 2 months now, so I just did cross trainer and uphill walking on the treadmill. Mentally planned my meals for the day, just need to stick to it now!

Just had Greek yoghurt, goji berries, strawberries, granola and chia seeds. One coffee with sugar. I must resist having any more than that. Will have green tea to keep warm, as I think coffee is partly just for that warmth, holding the cup 🙂

Dinner will be roasted veg with quinoa and chicken burger.

Must not snack. Must not snack.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 19/01/2023 13:48

I've been doing that sabotage thing where I know I've got an indulgent week coming up, so there doesn't seem any point being 'good' now! But, I have managed to refrain from mid week wine, even if I have had too many sweet treats so that's something!

Today's food

B - scrambled egg with toast
L - lentil soup, skips, apple
Snack - orange club biscuit...
D - veg dahl with pitta bread

ImALittlePea · 19/01/2023 15:47

That self sabotage mindset is the worst! I used to do it ALL the time, and I still do... but less than I used to.

Simple day over here:
Lunch - cup-a-soup etc
Dinner - baked potatoes, southern fried chicken and beans
Snacks - just the odd pilfered crisp/toast crust from the kids. And a few cups of tea.

Got a real hankering for a glass of wine tonight. I've got a one-glass sized bottle that I was given for Christmas that is staring me out. But I'm going to stand firm and avoid. I think...

ginsparkles · 19/01/2023 16:04

Thank you @TheRealHousewife for the shout out. I've been being awful. Self sabotage left right and centre. Need to get my head in the zone.

Your shout out has reminded me to regain my focus. I'm fed up, but not losing weight won't make me less fed up will it? So I need to give my head a wobble.

Hope you're ok x

greenspaces4peace · 19/01/2023 16:13

@ginsparkles hop on board. At least stabilize so your not gaining.
winter months are harder in many ways.

ginsparkles · 19/01/2023 16:41

@greenspaces4peace I know your right.... consider me on board!

Cloudberries123 · 19/01/2023 19:56

Hurrah ginsparkles good to see you and good on you, jumping back on board! As greenspaces says, just stabilise and maintain at first, don't worry about doing all drastic things and dropping loads of weight.

Bit of a mad day here and can't remember exactly what I've eaten, pretty good I think but with some unnecessary cake and sugar.

Heading into what might be a tough night with the baby, so wish us luck...

AutisticLegoLover · 19/01/2023 20:07

Self-sabotage is a tricky one to get under control. I'm an all or nothing person which doesn't help. Thursday is my busiest day and we usually eat a picnic dinner. I wasn't particularly hungry after school pick up and have only had a babybel. Now I'm too tired to eat and it's late so I won't bother. I had 3 crumpets and 2 small packets of crisps for lunch today. I missed my second breakfast of crumpets and that's why I had them for lunch. I'd usually have 2 but there were 3 left and I didn't want the last one to get lonely 😁 I put a really small amount of butter on them now. I used to put however much looked about right but now I weigh it. Butter is crazy for calories and it doesn't take much extra to really bump up the calorie count of a meal. I refuse to eat low fat spreads. I'd rather eat proper food but less of it than diet food. I don't have sweeteners generally either. Give me butter and sugar in moderation any day over highly processed chemical Frankenfood. Although I do like quorn stuff and that's Frankenfood but it's rare that I eat it.

I'm glad it's Friday tomorrow. I'm looking forward to my porridge in the morning and my big ass bowl of berries and yogurt for lunch. I need to buy more crumpets and berries.

10 miles walked today. No ball bouncing. My legs still ache from Sunday night.

greenspaces4peace · 19/01/2023 20:44

@AutisticLegoLover i switched from butter to cream cheese. Lower calorie than butter, some protein.
calorie counting is going okay, as well as a bit more exercise.
i bought myself a dinner dress; Hobbs A-line short green dots. Adorable and barely fits. I can ditch 9lbs with focus.

LollipopViolet · 19/01/2023 20:54

Well I had a major blip this past weekend - far too much cake and alcohol was consumed.

However, mum did a lovely thing in a bid to help me - she's bought a smart scale that does lots of different measurements including body fat percentage. It has an app for your phone. This might sound horrifying to some, but I'm actually really grateful as our old scales were difficult for me to see (I'm visually impaired) so if I can't read the number on the scale in time before it goes off, I can check on my phone. On your profile you also have a little figure that changes shape depending on your weight.

Mine is very round at the moment as I weighed in at 15 stone 13 (oops!) but I'm actually now determined to see her change shape as I lose!

greenspaces4peace · 19/01/2023 21:03

@LollipopViolet i’m totally onboard with the smart scale, IPhone, Apple Watch and all paired in with my calorie counting food app (cronometer). I really appreciate the feedback, like seeing the trend and allows me some insight into stretches where the weights not dropping.

buzzofthebumblebee · 19/01/2023 21:10

Quick hello to you lovely lot. I'm rubbish at name checking, but so grateful to read everyone's updates.

Totally agree with GreenSpaces - winter months are tough. What's done is done Gin. No point dwelling. Just re-focus, and come and join us. Sending positive vibes.

Doing OK food-wise, probably eaten a bit too much today especially carbs, but I was very hungry after a longer run.
B - rye + sunflower toast, poached egg, spinach & avocado
L - lentil dhal & brown rice

D - chicken breast, carrots, peas & spring greens, small amount potato
S - apple & teaspoon peanut butter

Hope you resisted the wine Pea. I'm on my 19th day of dry january. I still miss it so much in the evenings. But am sleeping better, and pleased to be clear headed in the morning. Body less bloated for sure.

Good luck to friday weigh-in's tomorrow. Keep warm!

buzzofthebumblebee · 19/01/2023 21:13

Ahh - what a lovely mum you have @LollipopViolet . Hope it helps you! I'm a daily scale hopper. Mine are 20+ years old so probably totally incorrect. Frightened to replace in case they've been under-estimating ; )

ImALittlePea · 19/01/2023 21:16

My 2yo is very unsettled this evening so I feel I'm in the same boat @Cloudberries123 - good luck to us both! 🤞

I'm with you @AutisticLegoLover I can't stand sweetener or margarine. Less of the real stuff is the way for me. Same goes for fry light (other brands are available 👀)

I stood firm, told the wine to hush down and made myself a decaf tea. Well done on the dry Jan @buzzofthebumblebee, I definitely haven't done it but I have pared it back which is enough for me.

TFI Friday tomorrow! This week has felt loooong!

AutisticLegoLover · 19/01/2023 21:30

I have smart scales too. I bought them in lockdown. They talk to an app and to other apps so I can see progress and charts and whatnot. Mine don't do body fat I don't think but they are great. I know it's not healthy mentally to weigh daily but I find it easier to stay focused that way. If I leave it a week or so I get The Fear.

Does anyone on this thread read any of the other weight loss threads? I sometimes do and some of the beliefs are crazy. The best one I read yesterday was that fruit was the enemy due to fructose and only provided vitamin C Confused and someone else said that apples and pears were heavy fruit and they were to be avoided. Apples float fgs. I was equally appalled and amused that people believe this shit.

Ninjachicken · 19/01/2023 21:49

I have digital scales too and I really like them. I find the charts helpful and it is motivational to see the losses. Mine also shows your bmi.

also body fat percentage but I find that less helpful as I appear to have the same body fat percentage as a small hippo
