Fresh new year, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9st. I had a blip a couple of years ago when my thyroid went wonky but now back on track.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

PS - In the coming days I’ll post some links which some members might find useful. Feel free to share your own links, recipes and photos too 😊

Apparently the combination of strikethrough and dashes completely confuzzled the system. Should have previewed!

TheRealHousewife · 18/01/2023 05:37

Good Morning Everyone

I couldn’t sleep so got up and made a nice cuppa ☕️ I’m going to catch up on the thread and see what you lovely lot have been up too 👀😬

Thank you ladies for keeping the thread going❤️ We are visiting the Chapel of Rest this week and will put mum to rest next week. RIP.

WOW - Unsurprisingly I’m seeing the lowest weight I’ve had for a while; sadly for all the wrong reasons. 59kg/131lbs I’m sure when eating becomes more regular it will go up a bit.

Menu
Meal 1 - Minestrone Soup.
Meal 2 - Chicken & Veg tray bake.
Tea, black coffee & water.

Exercise
Session 1 - Floor exercise.
Session 2 - stretching.

Sending positive vibes for your weigh-ins 👍

@limerentidiot 9:38 pm and I’m starving…too many afternoon calories meant a low cal supper.
i’m in for a rough night despite exercising.
i’ll be planning tomorrow much much better!

TheRealHousewife · 18/01/2023 05:54

Hi @takingcareofme2023 Just read your post where you’re questioning yourself if you can do it at ‘your age’. Absolutely! I’m also late fifties and have health and disability issues. I’ve found that by being consistent, patient & realistic I’ve (eventually) lost over 3 stones. Albeit not quickly. Quick fixes don’t exist, there’s no magic formula that’ll melt away the weight etc. The only ‘secret’ is finding your own sustainable way of eating that ultimately keeps you satisfied whilst creating a calorie deficit. And move more if able 👍You can do it! Good luck 🤞

@Cloudberries123 Hope you’re feeling somewhat brighter! January is a tough month what with the grey dismal weather and cold temperatures. I’m sure you’ll soon find your mojo when the nights starts drawing out and the weather warms up ☀️It’s positive that you keep logging 👍

@AutisticLegoLover Your post about bouncing on your exercise ball for 3 hours made me laugh (in a nice way)It reminded me about the time I was ‘dared’ to bounce downstairs on a Space Hopper … unsurprisingly the SH won 😬😅

Whats up with MN. I’ve 2 tabs open, one for reading the the thread and one to reply in post. Each time I switch from tab to tab they are refreshing, therefore losing what I wrote 🤷‍♀️. Annoying.

I’m finding MN very glitchy at the moment.

Good morning @TheRealHousewife and lovely to see you. Glad you have plans sorted for your mum. Hope the visit to the Chapel of Rest goes well ❤️

A 400g loss for me this morning, which considering I've eaten sweet snacks and desserts every day this week, I will humbly accept as pretty decent.

Got to run, but cheering you all on virtually!

AutisticLegoLover · 18/01/2023 07:22

Nice to see you @TheRealHousewife.

Wow is nothing wow at all.63kg.

Morning everyone - wishing you the best for weigh in Wednesday!

Down 0.8lb this week after finally getting my act together in the last few days. Hopefully with some consistency moving forward, that translates to more lost.

SW: 15 st 8
CW: 14 st 12
1st GW: 13 st

Non scale victories this week:

  • Much more walking
  • Several Pilates classes
  • Not buying crates of Diet Coke with the weekly shop
  • Sticking to meat and veg at a birthday party to keep calories for cake!
  • Eating when hungry, not eating just because the clock says 12.30

Looking forward to hearing everyone's successes!

Bumblebeehum · 18/01/2023 08:16

Morning all, I feel like I’ve been neglecting the thread this week and promise to check-in more. The talk of eggs has made me want a soft-boiled with toast 😊

I’ve done a lot of research on metabolism and ‘starvation mode’ this week. And basically learned that any of us who have ever lost weight by dieting and then put it all back on (plus a bit) are permanently in starvation mode. This is the 4th time I’ve had to hugely restrict food in my life and each time the amount has gone up, which shows that my body doesn’t trust what I feed it and holds onto more energy than it should. 😳

Haven’t quite worked out how to resolve this long term, but in the short term I’ve upped my cals to 1500 a day (which is lovely!!) and I’ve lost 2lbs this week - hurrah!

buzzofthebumblebee · 18/01/2023 08:17

So lovely to "see" you @TheRealHousewife .
Lots of losses - well done. Mine only very very minor, 1/4 lb, but it's taken me down to 11 9.75 from 11 10, and given cake-fest at the weekend, I'm amazed there was any loss!
I've woken up in a massive grump today, so will take myself off to be miserable elsewhere ; )

ndo4000 · 18/01/2023 08:38

Let things slip this week after sorting out DD5's birthday! But! The dials are beginning to move!

SW: 66kg
CW: 65.5kg
TW: 60kg

Onwards and upwards!

SingaporeSlinky · 18/01/2023 09:11

Morning all, I think I’ve managed to miss 2 weeks and not had chance to catch up, but weighing in at 9st 12 today, so no change.

Still snacking on Christmas chocolates - note to self, next December, buy about a third of what I did this time, as it was just too much of everything, and now can’t resist all the leftover chocs and biscuits.

Not been back to the gym, but I really must as everything has finally settled with kids back to school after various illnesses. Want to get back to my routine of heading straight to the gym after school run.

Hope everyone is doing well!

AutisticLegoLover · 18/01/2023 10:06

I'm thinking I must be due a decent drop next week. I've remained the same as after Christmas but at least it's not a gain. My activity levels are really high and it's definitely some water retention because my upper thighs retain water on a hormonal basis. I will have to stay strong on the willpower front.

Brieandbeetroot · 18/01/2023 10:22

Morning all.

Weighed in this morning despite it being beginning of AF and happy to see that the scales have remained static from two weeks ago, so with hormonal water retention hopefully I'll see a loss next week if I stick to good habits.

Last night was up 1-4 with toddler DD who's sleep is just a nightmare and had to do an emergency dash to a shop before work because she's outgrown her shoes since the weekend. I caved and bought a fruit and cinnamon bun 😔

Have a healthy lunch planned of jacket potato, tin of tuna and some steamed veg. Makes a sizeable meal for realtively few calories, approx 400 for a 250g potato, whole tin of tuna in sunflower oil and carrots/broccoli etc.

SW: 151 lbs
CW: 148 lbs
1 February GW: 145 lbs
GW: 133

Sending strength to you @TheRealHousewife at this difficult time.

TheRealHousewife · 18/01/2023 11:07

Thank you @Brieandbeetroot and others for the warm welcome back ❤️

Great to read everyone's progress and updates. Keep going 😬👍

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 18/01/2023 11:24

Good to see you posting @TheRealHousewife hope you and your family are coping ok.

No loss for me this week, disappointing because despite eating a lot of rubbish at the weekend, my overspend on calories was only around 800, and I burned way more than that in exercise (though I prefer not to include exercise calories). But, I do have my period and that never helps for me.

I have lots of celebratory things in the coming week, so sticking to calories will be a challenge but I'll see what I can do. I've been doing lots of exercises so will be keeping that up!

Congrats to everyone who had a loss this week and solidarity to anyone that didn't!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 18/01/2023 11:26

Oh, food today:

B - skinny bagel with chicken sausages
L - lentil soup with carrots & humous, satsuma, packet of skips
D - beef ragu with small portion of pasta

Snacks - none yet...

ImALittlePea · 18/01/2023 11:54

That strength of feeling around particular foods is something I think we can all relate to @Brieandbeetroot I was the same with crisps, but I've managed to wean myself off them to an extent. We always have them in the house, so it's taken a fair amount of determination, but I don't miss them as a regular/daily food any more.

Some lovely eggy ideas ladies, thank you!

WELL DONE to everyone who has weighed today. Some excellent losses and some really positive mindsets among those who haven't seen a drop today. Inspiring, as always ❤

Yesterday stayed pretty much on track, although I had an energy crash mid afternoon so had to have a couple of biscuits to see me through. Tends to happen when the temperature drops or AF makes a rare appearance (both of which are valid at the moment). Mood is much improved today, something for which DH will be happy as I was a total delight to be around yesterday on account of the above 👀😆

Lovely to see you posting again @TheRealHousewife sending continued love and strength to you. I hope the visit and laying to rest go as well as they can (it always feels like an odd thing to say, doesn't it, but I'm sure you understand the sentiment).

Today's plan:
Lunch - samey samey for me!
Dinner - homemade potato wedges, mini chicken kievs (leftover Christmas party food; we really are having to run down the freezer this week!) and veggies
Snacks - hopefully just tea and water. Oh, and going for a coffee with a friend later, too.

Hoping to see my numbers go back below the 10st mark this Friday! Now I've said it out loud, I'll probably gain though 🙄

AutisticLegoLover · 18/01/2023 13:04

I had a hungry morning but distracted myself with tidying and sorting laundry and messing on here. As some might remember I get obsessed (for want of a better word) with certain foods and they are all I'll eat for weeks. I ran out of my usual Collective Cherry yogurt and bought an Onken one that was on offer in Asda. I have 200g of yogurt with raspberries and strawberries. I measured out the raspberries and strawberries and had 100h of each so all in all a massive bowl of berries and yogurt and it was so nice. I'll be buying more yogurt on the way back from the school run. I love raspberries and strawberries. Raspberries are good for fibre and have very few calories. I just wish they were cheaper especially with the amount I eat of them. If I only have a few they go mouldy though.

Cloudberries123 · 18/01/2023 13:07

AutisticLegoLover are you sure you're eating enough? You do an incredible amount of walking and the body will go into that same starvation mode that Bumblebeehum describes, if it feels like there's not enough fuel coming for the exertion we're doing.

Good to see you Singapore and ndo great to get back at it, isn't it!

Really happy with food and exercise so far today. Brisk hilly walk to and from work is feeling easy now.

Breakfast - 3 small eggs scrambled. Leftover pudding. Coffee, water

Work snacks - banana, satsuma, water

Lunch - tuna roll, coffee

Dinner - baked chicken thighs, veg and rice

AutisticLegoLover · 18/01/2023 13:37

I've had just under 1700 calories a day this week. I'm eating porridge, crumpets, yogurts, fruit, lentil and veg soup, lentil chips and some chocolate on occasion. Plenty of water and some cups of tea. I think im eating enough it's just my body is used to eating too much so eating enough gives a deficit and it tells me to eat biscuits 😁

Ninjachicken · 18/01/2023 15:05

So 900g loss for me today
SW: 67,55kg
CW: 66,45kg

at least it’s moving in the right direction.
still can’t believe I have put on 8 kgs in around 5 months.
trying to keep my walking up and will do exercise video later

@ImALittlePea i like Asian type eggs with spring onions, soy, sesame etc. Can add tomatoes / mushrooms too

very lovely to see everyone making progress and it does motivate me to keep going

B: cereal bar
L: red lentil dhal with a naan bread
D: not sure but probably soup!
snacks: one chocolate with my coffee

lots of water and satsumas if I get hungry

Still find it difficult to have to cook different meals for family. How do other people adapt so they are not cooking twice? It also requires twice as much will power to stick to my plan !!!
well done everyone who has lost !!!!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 18/01/2023 17:57

@Ninjachicken we all eat the same here for breakfast and dinner - we try to keep low cal, protein rich for those. We use pinch of nom etc. a lot for evening meals. I will have soup for lunch. DC have bigger lunch, post school snack etc. Teens, so at the stage they regularly fuel up on carbs outside mealtimes!
