Fresh new year, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9st. I had a blip a couple of years ago when my thyroid went wonky but now back on track.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

PS - In the coming days I’ll post some links which some members might find useful. Feel free to share your own links, recipes and photos too 😊

I feel like everyone has had an off couple of weeks?! @Allthegoodnamestakken you're certainly not alone in that. But I'm finding that I do have motivation to go on, as the pressure from New Year's Resolutions eases off.

Today -

Breakfast - leftover roast chicken, potatoes, gravy, mocha, protein ball

Work snacks - water as forgot my fruit

Lunch - picked at leftover roast, and leftover bolognaise. Big crunchy salad

Snack - tea, cinnamon bun

Dinner - potato on pork (my DP's speciality)

Great planning AutisticLegoLover

Only 2 weeks till the end of January buzz 😱

ImALittlePea · 16/01/2023 18:50

Ooh I've really been teetering close to the edge of chucking the towel in for the day. Hormones again along with having a rough night with the kids and the cat catching up with me this afternoon 😏 all I've had in my head is chippy tea, despite not really being able to afford it (although in this mood, I don't really care). But my willpower has been resolute and the bakers are in the oven! I can't promise I won't have something sweet after, but a couple of squares of chocolate will make me feel far less guilty than what could have been 🥴

Onwards!

AutisticLegoLover · 16/01/2023 20:18

Ending the day on 1167 calories consumed. I didn't have butter on my dinner roll with my soup. I really don't know how many calories are in that soup. It's water, veg oxo, red lentils, carrots and celery. No oil or anything. I've logged it as 366 because that's what came up on MFP but I bowl of water, lentils, carrots and celery surely can't be that much??

I think after Christmas is a tough time on all sorts of levels and it takes some time to get back into the swing of things. It's no wonder people have found it tricky. My dc only went back to school last Monday so for me it's only been one week of normality and last week the pmt sugar and other needs were a challenge and a challenge I failed. I'm not letting it bother me though. I've had a healthy day and dinner tomorrow will also be lentil soup plus a busier day generally.

We can do this!

buzzofthebumblebee · 16/01/2023 22:29

Well done on willpower @ImALittlePea . Personally I'm amazed anyone can have chocolate in the house without eating it, even more so if it's from Easter!!!

Your soup sounds delicious @AutisticLegoLover , regardless of calories. I must get souping. Think you have over-counted calories - but more in the bank for tomorrow.

Reckon we can drop 4+ lbs in 2 weeks @Cloudberries123 ?? !!

greenspaces4peace · 16/01/2023 23:29

well done @ImALittlePea!
i'm poking along over here health food but over calories thanks to dh prepping both breakfast and lunch.
all is NOT lost, supper will be fine. spaghetti squash in the oven and pasta sauce getting prepped.
exercise is fine and today water is going well. supplements with breakfast ✅

CrawlingFromShitshowToAfterglow · 16/01/2023 23:45

Hi everyone! I joined a few months ago, then got really demotivated and hated myself!

I have piled on 10kg since August last year (binge eating; not being able to leave it to having one chocolate bar but having to hoover everything chocolatey in the house).

I've had a off first few weeks if January, despite best intentions. But ready to start now.

My motivation is a short, cheap holiday we've booked in February half-term). Wish me luck!

limerentidiot · 17/01/2023 03:45

Hi @CrawlingFromShitshowToAfterglow ! Great username!

I’m an intermittent poster. Down to my lowest in 3? 5? years over the weekend, just 0.6 lb above my first target (which is 165lb). Not a great day today as we had a certain type of biscuits in the house that are my absolute weakness. So now I have to go and get something else for the children’s packed lunches.

limerentidiot · 17/01/2023 03:48

i should have said, that’s 2.6lb off since the start of the year. I’m not counting calories, just eating less, cutting out (or down on) Coke, and having eggs mid-morning as my first food if the day rather than cereal first thing.

Cloudberries123 · 17/01/2023 08:33

Yes limerentidiot a later breakfast of eggs has been eye-opening for me as well! Don't always manage it, but what a difference when I do! The protein and healthy fats 💪🏻 Well done on your 2.6lb!

Welcome back Crawling the one thing you'll never find here is judgment 😊 Do you have a goal in mind for your Feb holiday? Fitting into an item of clothing / certain amount of weight off / measurements down?

greenspaces I love spaghetti squash and pasta sauce! Sounds like you're getting back in your rhythm.

LittlePea your description of your evening sounds soooo like many of mine recently. Hope you ended up making choices you're happy with ❤️

buzz Yes why the hell not! 4lb+ off in the next couple of weeks! Let's do this!

ImALittlePea · 17/01/2023 09:12

I know @buzzofthebumblebee it's a bit bonkers to still have some. We put it in a bag on top of the fridge and it just gets forgotten.. we also have a large family who all insist on giving chocolate for Easter, birthdays and Christmas, so there's a constant topping up. We tend to be more savoury snackers, and the kids don't have free access (if they did it'd probably disappear much more quickly 🤣)

I did 'cave', if caving is having a small curly wurly from a selection box. Happy with that.

Today's plan:
Lunch - cup-a-soup special 🤩
Dinner - chicken casserole from a recent batch cook with rice and veg
Snacks - hopefully none!

Can we talk eggs? I love them, but don't eat them as often as possible as I'd normally have them with toast (and I try and avoid bread on weekdays) or with cheese in an omelette. I know neither are the devil, but I could do with a cleaner way of eating them (ie without carbs or the added cheese). I used to have two poachers on a pile of ham and cherry tomatoes for lunch, but I've really gone off ham. How do you lovely lot have eggs?

AutisticLegoLover · 17/01/2023 10:05

I'm proper fed up today. Just generally. I don't think there's much chance I'll lose enough weight to meet my goal by our holiday in a month. It would help if AF would sort itself out. I've been bloated and hormonal for at least a week but I didn't help myself by eating a fair amount of crap last week but this week is going well although we are only on Tuesday but so far I'm winning😁 I bounced on my ball for about an hour before bed last night to up the exercise. I went to bed peckish but I resisted all temptation. Lots of positives even if I'm not feeling positive at all.

Sorry to be gloomy.

Brieandbeetroot · 17/01/2023 13:34

@AutisticLegoLover I sympathise! Today is the start of AF and yesterday and today I've just been consumed by the thought of eating sugar and comfort food. I'm resisting but it's tiring! So far today I have had half a banana (the other half was manky!) a bowl of roasted carrot soup and a cheese roll. I allowed myself a large cappuccino with one sugar and a brisk walk around the local park to try and distract myself. I should do a workout today but I'm tired after toddler DD ended up half the night in our bed and woke me up at 6. Work is a pain and I'm always more miserable about things at the start of AF! I'm trying to use the thought of seeing a loss or at least static number on the scale tomorrow as motivation to stay disciplined today but I feel like I can't be bothered with anything!

Brieandbeetroot · 17/01/2023 13:36

@ImALittlePea I love eggs! Scrambled eggs with spinach, or mushrooms and tomatoes are a good carb/cheese free option. Boiled eggs with asparagus spears for dipping work well too. Smoked salmon with scrambled eggs also works well without the toast element.

ImALittlePea · 17/01/2023 14:08

Thanks @Brieandbeetroot - I always want toast with scrambled egg though 😂and tbh I'd often add some cheese too. Dippy eggs with asparagus sound worth a try! No smoked salmon for me though, I've never liked it - and now don't eat fish at all anyway.

Brieandbeetroot · 17/01/2023 14:50

If you like something savoury, huevos rancheros or shakshuka make good cheeseless carbless egg options too. Ha I know what you mean about toast. I think some things are just always going to be a challenge to cut down on and some days you're more motivated to do it than others, that's certainly how it is for me anyway! I cannot buy crisps at the moment. I will eat them. So I need to wait until I've made more progress before having them in the house again. I'm almost embarrassed at the strength of feeling I have around certain foods! I would have argued I was not at 'emotional' eater but that has definitely proven not true!

greenspaces4peace · 17/01/2023 19:44

oh @limerentidiot how absolutely fab is that!! well done
@Cloudberries123 despite my efforts which admittingly are half hearted the scales are not going down. (and i know the answer is logging)
so B: 285 cal

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 17/01/2023 20:07

Food log today

B - boiled egg with toast and glass of lemon water

L - home made soup, Greek yoghurt & berries, packet of skips

D - cola chicken (pinch of nom) with rice

Snacks - too much tea, some grapes and a satsuma.

The onset of my period yesterday meant that I overdid my calories. Still ok across the week if I count in my exercise calories, but I usually need to avoid that so not really expecting a drop tomorrow.

Keeping up the exercise though!

Sending support to everyone who's feeling fed up and well done to those resisting temptation!

SanFranBear · 17/01/2023 20:17

<slinks onto thread and hides in a corner> I have had a few really off-plan days, yesterday being particularly poor (even went to the shop to buy sweets!!) It's reassuring to read its not just me at the mo but I've really come off the boil.

Today has been better but only because I skipped breakfast - up to my calories from my two meals! I'll get my mojo back, I'm sure, but need to get a grip.

LittlePea - I adore eggs and have them almost every day. I tend to have soft boiled with soldiers but I sometimes do baked muffins... I love these although tend to only make a third of the recipe as its only me eating them. I normally substitute the cheddar for a light babybel as well as much lower in calories but still gives a gentle, cheesy bite!

FTB2022 · 17/01/2023 20:19

Feel like I've had quite a good day today. Haven't been able to weigh myself as scales have given up! (Very much telling myself that I didn't break them....) more ordered and hoping to have lost a couple of lb since I last weighed on 8th Jan!

Had leftovers from last night's burrito bowl for lunch. Super filling and delicious, only around 300kcal per portion too!

Homemade chicken chow mein for dinner, higher calories at 581, and far too much salt, but really felt like I was eating a takeaway so should take some temptation away!

Well done to all that have losses this week!

AutisticLegoLover · 17/01/2023 22:01

@SanFranBear thank you for mentioning babybels as I really like the light ones and haven't had any for ages. I'll get some tomorrow. I find it difficult to stop at just one but two with an apple would be a rather lovely and wholesome snack.

I've won the fitbit weekly bingo tonight and am feeling rather pleased with myself. I've clocked up 12 miles, burned 2750 calories and done 30,000 steps and 105 floors according to my trusty Fitbit. Good and drink intake for the day is 1675 calories and I'm happy with that. I'm hoping to see a loss in the morning but I won't be surprised if there isn't.

Cloudberries123 · 17/01/2023 22:04

Late update from me today but it's been halfway decent foodwise and I feel like I'm turning a corner from pure gobbling to enjoying the colourful and fresh things again after Christmas.

Snow day here so had a lazy start which was nice -

Breakfast - avocado on toast, coffee x2, mini brownie

Lunch - Tesco 'simple side salad' which might work well as a future healthy convenience food. Third of a quiche lorraine

Snack - tea and Belgian bun, my DP is to blame for all these buns as he went rogue when he did the shopping. It was a pretty shit bun actually

Dinner - chicken and rice broth with cheese on toast. Had a couple of squares of fudge but then actually said no to dessert as I genuinely didn't fancy it.

🪁🐷
That's a pig flying.

Weigh-in tomorrow!

Weatherwax13 · 17/01/2023 23:54

Wednesday weigh in
SW 88.8
TW 83.25
That's 2.3kg since last Wednesday. I've been ruthless with carbs this week and zero sugar. Had an incident yesterday that really shook me. So upset and I would've given my right arm for a Connoisseur ice cream but I didn't. Really proved how prone I am to emotional eating.
I'll be back next Wednesday.

Weatherwax13 · 17/01/2023 23:56

Oh, and that was today's weight.
Target weight is 75kg!

greenspaces4peace · 18/01/2023 02:33

okay all in all 800 max
my snaking on veggies and hummus between 2:30-4pm was a bit excessive so i will work on that.
it's 6:30 pm and the kitchen has been closed since 543 and all my other parameters are on track.
all i need is resolve for the next 3 hours and that's not usually an issue for me.

limerentidiot · 18/01/2023 05:32

Loving the snaking typo, @greenspaces4peace!

On the eggs subject I love them any which way (and wish I still had hens). I now try to keep a bowl of cold softish-boiled eggs in the fridge at all times, which can be tricky as two of my children love them as well (although one always gives me the yolk--what kind of weirdo prefers the white?!).

Well done for resisting the emotional eating, @Weatherwax13. Sorry to hear about the upsetting incident.

@AutisticLegoLover, having just finished a two-week long period I sympathise! It sounds like you're doing well over the long haul so just hang in there.

The mojo will return, @SanFranBear. At least that's what I'm telling myselfeasier now that all the delish cookies have been eaten by me--.
